Sometime you have to flash an older version. But all this follow the tech trend nowadays. It just has to be bugged software, OS and firmware. They just can't make it right. You shouldn't have to experience this mess with a simple switch over to the second bios rom. Oh'well it’s what it is. A flash put it back to working state. But it seems I have weird problems with the new old 960 card. I had to use another GPU to get a picture😕 I'm quite sure the card works ok so this is weird. When I have the time I will put it into the old test machine and see what happens. 9 hours ago, ryan said: sir @Mr. Fox I managed to create a i5 build thats decent for 860 that does not include gpu, i was thinking of just buying a A770 off new egg and getting a mid range desktop. is the i5 13700k any good, actually i think you answered that you said its fine. i can always upgrade later on. looks like for 4k gaming its either get a xbox series x or get a 2000 buck desktop If you can find the 14700K for around the same amount money then you get 20 cores and slightly higher clock speed. And you get Intel APO support if that is something you care about. Could be handy for the gamers if Intel was able to implement it for more games. Papusan
Yup, Nvidia have no problems get rid of the defective AD102 chips that don't go into the few 4090s for the gamers. NVIDIA RTX 5880 ADA with 14K shader cores and 48GB Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn NVIDIA has unveiled the RTX 5880 ADA, a new professional desktop GPU tailored for tasks such as 3D modeling, rendering, data visualization, and video streaming. This release comes in response to U.S. export restrictions, which have limited the availability of the flagship RTX 6000 ADA GPU in specific regions, including China. The RTX 5880 ADA aims to address these restrictions by offering reduced specifications that conform to the imposed performance limits. The key feature of the RTX 5880 ADA is its AD102 GPU, which houses 14,080 CUDA cores, representing a 22% reduction compared to the RTX 6000 ADA. 2 1 "The Killer" ASUS ROG Z790 Apex Encore | 14900KS | 4090 HOF + 20 other graphics cards | 32GB DDR5 | Be Quiet! I know MSI gets a bad rap sometimes, but this is two items in a row recently (3070 and this) the RMA process was easy and straight forward. Turn around was ~14 days by the time I actually got off my duff and retested it to confirm to creating an RMA, getting approval, shipping it back to MSI and getting it back repaired. This update does specifically "Improve long boot time issue" which is really saying improves memory training and startup. 28 minutes ago, jaybee83 said: noice, which board is that? the mounting frame looks fancy, altho it doesnt do anything temp wise vs. the Intel counterpart 🙂 afaik the new agesa version doesnt affect any Raphael parts, latest would still be 1.0.0.8. anything after that is just for Phoenix. I said as much in my review of it lol. Basically you won't reap the same rewards as Intel due to the better designed retention mechanism on AMD (it's one, solid unit and better built) and the uniform CPU shape (aka square) versus rectangle along with the much larger and beefier IHS that can resist more bending forces compared to Intel but every little bit helps and there's no denying it takes any uneven stress off the CPU. There's zero reason not to use one these days even if the gains are minimal for AMD vs Intel. I'm was still running the Beta from October when my MB failed. There have been three bios updates since then. Yup, but for X670e Carbon BIOS updates, one improves USB 3.0 compatibility and finally the newest improves boot times drastically in some cases for ram training on boot. 20 minutes ago, Tenoroon said: I've been looking into the Carbon as you suggested. Worst case scenario, it follows the serial # and the warranty period is capped by a few months. Best case, you have a legit receipt from an authorized seller. MSI and Asus are the last of a dying breed that follow the serial none of this, "original, registered user only" BS. I registered mine, send a copy of my Amazon receipt and they accepted the start warranty period as of April 2023 (when I bought it). I miss EVGA, but MSI I think is my new, favorite motherboard seller followed closely by Asus. If Vince ends up at MSI, that would just lock it in. Mr. Fox
4 hours ago, electrosoft said: That looks very well-made. It should help avoid getting thermal paste in the notched areas where you don't want it and should be very good for facilitating the use of liquid metal. That would be kind of risky with so many exposed SMDs otherwise, even with one of those foam gaskets that der8auer came up with. You could literally fill up that narrow gap around the perimeter with thermal paste like a "caulk" and then clean up the IHS and apply liquid metal without losing any sleep about a mishap. I’m sorry to say that following this kind of advice likely cost me at least $500 on a new mobo alone. In the end I found the frame to be a completely unnecessary and harmful gimmick promoted by the influencers, I guess similar to the failed 12VHPWR adapters. The stock ILS is perfectly adequate and stable. My replacement ILS-only 13900K system has been working without a hitch for months, as opposed to frequent temp degradation with the frame installed, and eventual damage to the mobo (and likely the CPU as well, as it required a delid afterwards). The trick is to pay attention to the play in the arm, and align that prior to latching. The more ethical influencers (GN) caveated their sponsored reviews with repeated warnings against possible socket damage, given the impossibility of reproducing factory-level frame alignment without specialist tools, and I only have myself to blame for ignoring that sensible advisory. Sure, someone who’s built hundreds or perhaps thousands of PC configs may feel completely comfortable but that’s an outlier and not a basis for a generally-applicable and unconditional advice. Can’t argue with the initial aesthetics though, although obviously the frame may or may not be actually visible in a fully assembled system 🙂 1 "We're rushing towards a cliff, but the closer we get, the more scenic the views are." -- Max Tegmark AI: Major Emerging Existential Threat To Humanity

There is always a chance of something going bonkers so it never hurts to make sure that particular board has no problems/history/issues that would cause it to not have or be denied warranty service. I've seen stranger things happen with RMAs. Like I found out ordering an Asrock 7900xtx Taichi from Amazon last summer. Zero warranty and it was brand new shipped and sold from Amazon. Why have AMD all sorts of compatibility problems with their producs? Do they test their newer products? Ryzen CPU bug crashes PCs using Firewire devices A strange bug involving AMD's modern Ryzen CPUs and the old Firewire standard. Without getting too technical, Firewire and Ryzen users would often see their PCs crash if the "isochronous cycle timer" register on the CPU was accessed. This register would be accessed if a user ever plugged in a Firewire device or was using software that required constant access to the register. Although crashes are no longer a problem for Firewire-Ryzen PCs, the patch is a double-edged sword and "brings apparent disadvantage since time-aware application programs require it," according to Sakamoto. Linux users with this hardware combination might have to switch to Intel or even downgrade to one of AMD's pre-Ryzen CPUs, as neither exhibit the same problems seen on Ryzen-powered PCs. 17 hours ago, Papusan said: Well, since AI GPUs designed for computing are much more profitable than gaming ones, it does seem "professional" of NVIDIA to prioritize their supply. 1 1 "The Killer" ASUS ROG Z790 Apex Encore | 14900KS | 4090 HOF + 20 other graphics cards | 32GB DDR5 | Be Quiet! If Nvidia launches their refresh at the prices rumored, AMD is in all types of trouble....even more than before. 4080 Super $999? 4070 Super $599? 4070 Super definitely got the biggest spec bump too out of all of them. If true, AMD has to adjust the 7900xtx down to at least $900 or even lower for starters and if the 4070 Ti Super stays at $799? 7900xt will need a light shave too potentially. 7800xt is in trouble as that substantial performance bump of the 4070 Super is definitely in response to the price/performance of the 7800xt. 1 2 Electrosoft Prime: SP109 14900KS | Asrock Z790i Lightning | MSI Suprim X Liquid 4090 | AC LF II 420 | TG 2x16GB 8200 | Samsung 990 Pro 2TB | EVGA 1600w P2 | Phanteks Ethroo Pro | Alienware AW3225QF 32" OLED Heath: i9-12900k | EVGA CLC 280 | Asus Strix Z690 D4 | Asus Strix 3080 | 32GB DDR4 2x16GB B-Die 4000 | WD Black SN850 512GB | EVGA DG-77 | Samsung G7 32" 144hz 32" My for sale items on eBay. ryan
I was looking for a 4080/4090 and alot of them are priced pretty high but they are selling like hotcakes, the 4090 is outselling the steam deck oled, it might even make history being the best selling gpu of all time. as for shortages I think its intentional its not new practice to create demand. on a more postive note the new nomad benchmark looks amazing graphically, really nice looking benchmark from the pictures, I hope it really is a successor to timespy, been waiting for, what seems like forever. A preview of 3DMark Steel Nomad (ul.com) all I have for release date is this snippet 3DMark Steel Nomad will launch in the first quarter of next year for devices running Windows and Windows-on-Arm on Steam, the Epic Games Store, or direct from UL Solutions. Steel Nomad and Steel Nomad Light for macOS and Linux, and Steel Nomad Light for Android and iOS devices, will launch later in 2024 2 1 ZEUS-COMING SOON Omen 16 2021 Zenbook 14 oled Vivobook 15x oled

Maybe the situation is different in China. Everyone want a card and they have problem find 4090's. Gamers is probably happy with the rest of the overpriced SKU line. If they can't find any 4090's they will go for the 4080. Not the best benchmark to grab numbers from but 20W higher TGP sure will help. Mr. Fox
I am trying to not look at anything and maintain an apathetic perspective until after Battlemage drops. If it is as good as expected I will buy one. If not I will try to get a 4090 HOF or just do nothing. If I could get a water block for my A770 through normal retail channels I could buy a second one and sell my 4090 today for $200÷ more than I paid for it and still be the cheapest one available. I'd have enough money to buy two Battlemage GPUs, two water blocks and a 14900K, with cash to spare. Apathy, resentment, bias and outright hatred are normally very bad things, but they can be used in a positive way by consumers. NVIDIA deserves heaps of it. We need to burn it down so that something more respectable can rise from their ashes. In terms of mainboard, my black Encore and white Apex seem functionally identical in terms of CPU and memory overclocking. I think now might be a good time to consider them on the last firmware update for the rest of their lives. It would be a shame to ruin either one with the haphazard newer-is better-hurry-up-and-flash-it firmware roulette nonsense. I genuinely don't care about "security" patches. I hope both of them last longer than I want to use them. You never know with the sketchy QC ASUS are famous for. Windoze is becoming such a dumpster fire that we probably need to be more worried about that than what comes next on the hardware chocolate choo-choo train. 11 hours ago, Papusan said: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER GPU Benchmarks Leak Out, Almost As Fast As RTX 4070 Ti I got to say... that just doesn't impress me. Even a little bit. Am I wrong to feel that way @Papusan? Am I just a mean old man with unrealistic expectations? Or am I a realist that doesn't drink the dumb-dumb flavored Kool-Aid?
