Picking up a 4070 Ti Super when you have a KPE 3090 makes zero sense.

Just wait for the 4080 Super.

Picking up a 4080 Super makes no sense either.

4070Ti SUPER $799

4080 SUPER $999

Hey everyone should I grab a 4070Ti Super now? Or wait for 4080 Super? 😁 I am really tempted to grab a 4070Ti Super right now and just run that lol. I hate to save $140-$200 and lose 15-20% performance though by being impatient.

100% wait for 4080 Super. Try not to overpay, they all can be flashed and use the same power limits. Especially if you're considering going H20.

I would easily give up 2% at 1440p and 7% at 4K raster perf over the 7900 XT all day long. DLSS, RT, and FG on Nvidia are all better. FSR is still terrible. Not to mention the significant power savings over the AMD cards.

I still really like the 4070 Super though. Get it, or get the 4080 Super if upgrading today unless you need that VRAM.

If you're looking for a performance upgrade but don't want to splash some cash for the 4090 and its hefty price tag, it makes more sense than the 4070ti Super but if I had a 3090 I would either bite the bullet and get a 4090 or just wait for Blackwell.

Unless you want to take your foot off the "master hardware" gas, ease off having the best each generation and shift your generational upgrades to the xx80 or xx70 class.

In that scenario, you upgrade to an xx80 now and each subsequent generation or you keep your 3090 till next gen and wait for the 5070 as you adjust your hardware performance expectations.

I'm not quite sure where @tps3443 is on the 4080 Super rationale though. 🙂

I’m gonna wait for the 4080 Super and buy it! It will offer at least equivalent or better performance in 4K (I hope, it will lol🤞) my 3090KP does have 1KW power limit and huge bandwidth at 23,500gbps GDDR6X so it’s a really a killer in 4K.

But the 4080 Super is a little faster and has new frame gen features so it’s gonna offer a nice up tick in performance at half the power consumption. 😎

Whether I sell my current GPU or not, I’m still gonna grab the 4080 Super.

I would splurge and get a 4090, but I’m in the process of buying a brand new house (First time buying a home, we’re excited 😆 )  and me and my wife are saving money like crazy.

I haven’t bought a new GPU in over 2.5+ years though. So no worries there.

I am excited about the 4080 Super though. @Talon I am going to water cool it right away (Within a week) and squeeze it for all it has performance wise🤣

I bought a 2080 Super around launch day, and I really enjoyed it. Especially the new faster ram they incorporated.

I only considered a 4070 Ti Super because something new to play with water cool it etc lolz

No wonder our friend Jensen decided to decapitate EVGA.

The card is like 30%+ faster in practically anything than a stock out of the box RTX3090FE from launch day lol. Sometimes a little more than that even. It made it a great long term option. But I am cheating with every advantage, 10 gallons of a constant 15C coolant temp year round, I run (5) D5 pumps with crazy water pressure, and the GPU has full voltage control in its favor with binned core and memory IC’s.

YOU are spot on bro @Talon The best custom 4070 Ti Super cards offer only value for the AIB partners. Why spend almost xx80 prices on xx70 Ti Super cards? People have to be stupid if they jump on lower tier SKUs that cost $50 below the next tier cards. One of those smart ones replied on my reply. See below...

Im wondering why the RTX4080 Super FE clocks higher with less peak power consumption than the standard RTX4080 FE. Nvidia must have improved their manufacturing process some?

The 4070Ti Super STRIX is a poor value. Funny thing is, I was actually considering buying one if only for a millisecond, and realizing how large of a mistake that would have been. But it’s the false feel of “Luck” or “Opportunity “ you feel when you see these actually in-stock and available for normal pricing. It’s this silly GPU market has conditioned us to feel like poor value is acceptable I think.

Those seem to clock the highest, I wonder if ASUS has improved the Strix cards any? Don’t think the 4080 Super Strix is worth the premium price?

Inventory levels will probably be good for 01/31, so I might just have a chance at selecting between a few good models.

Nvidia use the best binned chips for themself. And they use the lower performing coolers, so... But remeber the quality of the chips improve with time.

Regarding bin quality. It's a lottery. The Asus Tuf loose 10MHz vs the flagship from Asus but offer better vram. And the other custom AIB cards is cheaper than the Asus Strix OC. But Asus binned the worst vram of they all for their flagship. So not the first time. Yup, nice paying premium for less. Is less more than more @ryan?😬

They're fools lol. Let them pay for it while someone smarter will just buy the MSRP 4080S and blow it's doors off.

@tps3443 I'm planning on testing a 4080S as well. I hope I hate it so I don't keep it lol. I sold my 4070 Ti Super today after being pretty underwhelmed with the performance difference between it and my 4070S.

Do you have (2) 4090’s? You were planning on replacing one with a 4080 Super?

I hope the 4080 Super is about 18-20% faster than the 4070Ti Super. It should be.

Edit. I don't like AMD products as this is said. But the 4070 Ti Super ain't much better choice. +$800 for xx70 tier card is awful.

Radeon RX 7900 XTX: AMD's top model drops to 899 euros in MindStar.  Mind you this is with 19% tax. This means the RX 7900 XTX cost $817 without tax or equal MSRP.

Frame gen is not a performance enhancing technique but rather a performance smoothing one. If your base frame rate in a game is 30 and frame gen increases it to 60, you're still getting a 30 fps experience in terms of overall feel, input latency, etc.

also, say what u will about AMD GPUs, but the 7900XTX at +35% raster performance and +8GB vram vs. the 4070 Ti Super is a no-brainer at the same price... unless you absolutely NEED ray-tracing, then i expect the 70 card to outperform team red by a significant margin. question being, if the FPS are even playable at that point 😄

At 30 fps it must be somewhat similar to the annoying TV soap opera effect.

It must be even worse in games due to the extra input lag since instead of displaying the 2nd real frame, the engine must first display the generated frame. Unless frame gen is purely predictive which would be nuts if it worked that way effectively.

This.

The latency hit is a known quantity especially in competitive games.

Not if you already have a 3090, no.

It seems like Linus is making good on the promise to revamp and improve his group's testing methods. This sort of scientific (as scientific you can get on YouTube without getting put to sleep anyway) analysis is not something I would have ever expected from his channel, and that's a very good thing.

I think the 4080 Super is an upgrade. Outside of the memory, it is better in every aspect over the 3090 and it would be a fun new toy as you've had your 3090 for over 2yrs now.

Worthy? Well, that's in the eye of the buyer as you'll pay $1k and sell your 3090 for $700-800 (minus fees) so for ~$200-300 you get a new shiny to play around with.

A significant upgrade would really only be the 4090.

If it were me, it would be a 4090 or wait for the 5080 but I'm the guy who is also still trying to shoehorn in the idea of selling my 4090 and going with a 7900xtx even after two rounds of "meh" with them so maybe don't listen to me! 🤣

Seems to me that the main cause of urgency is a bit of a HW addiction lol. Another option would be to wait a bit to see if 4080S won’t depress 4090 prices a little, or try to find that “limited’ 4090D if possible/available. 4090S looks unlikely unf.

Same price, I'm picking the 7900XTX every time over a 4070ti Super.

This.

The latency hit is a known quantity especially in competitive games.

Frame Generation would not be a selling point for me.

agreed. FG is not something i care about, same goes for all the upscaling crap like DLSS and FSR. I DO care about raytracing though!

Not if you already have a 3090, no.

It seems like Linus is making good on the promise to revamp and improve his group's testing methods. This sort of scientific (as scientific you can get on YouTube without getting put to sleep anyway) analysis is not something I would have ever expected from his channel, and that's a very good thing.

yep i was also surprised when i saw this pop up. havent watched it yet but should be interesting to compare with GNs findings (although with different CPUs).

He actually does a decent job explaining the methodology and provides a process document for the public to view.
