And from 10:10

Opened up the MSI 770 Lightning. As expected, 11 year old rock-hard thermal paste. Never been opened so this is real old paste from the factory. They don't use such thermal paste nowadays for new and modern. The new and modern get the cheapest you can get that last maybe a few months. Not +10 years as this old lady have run🙂

Those are high quality looking cards.

I was thinking about this thermal paste with the Xeon W3175X. These chips are not soldered. They use thermal paste and it’s gonna be a 5 year old CPU. Now, some people complained about them having paste, but the die is so HUGE that even after delidding and adding Liquid Metal it barely even does anything to improve temps. Anyways, I’m thinking the CPU may require delidding and relidding with new paste for best performance. It’s something I don’t even want to deal with.

Buy a couple of the $8.00 10-core CPUs we saw and see how it goes. Delidding older CPUs that had only thermal paste was easy. It did not become difficult until they went back to soldering them.

Yeah, I’d have to buy the delid tool though which I may do just to replace its thermal paste with some KPX or something. These chips require extreme pressure on the IHS to break it free. But they seem fairly safe to delid from what I have researched.

Did you find a tool for it already? I did not know there was a delid tool for it. If so, then problem solved. Don't use thermal paste. It won't last long. Use liquid metal instead and it'll last much longer than thermal paste.

It looks like the W3175X is quite the wicked CPU. I hope you can find a good one for less than the cost of your complete Z790 build.

@Mr. Fox I did find a delid tool in Germany direct from Der8auer on his CaseKing website. I might PM him directly and see if he’ll just send it to me 😃 But I haven’t gotten a 3175X yet either. I’m hesitant to order one on eBay, because there literally isn’t a single one in the USA. They are all in China. So I’m worrying about if it works, and if it’s authentic. That will be my last resort. I’m trying to locate one in the US. I have emailed a few people who had some older FS threads on Serve the Home, and also some listing I found on Mercari. And I PM’ed a couple other people who I was told apparently have one. Gonna go start knocking on doors next. 🤣

Well, the 5090 being so absurdly overpriced will help both of my 4090s hold their value, LOL. Silver lining to every cloud.

I am surprised they are so difficult to find, but they were crazy expensive new and probably near bullet-proof. I suspect most people that bought one are still using it and have no need to replace it and no plans to upgrade. They'll probably keep using it for a long time.

At least you can expect better gaming performance. Worse with Intel's new processors.

The failure is complete and confirmed. On par and sometimes with lower gaming performance than previous gen Core processors. New is always better bro @ryan

One Giant Leap in gaming performance pr watt. Is this a Joke? What next? Maybe 300 series will run even more power efficient and offer same performance as Intel Cpu's from 2023 ?

And why compare with old 7000 series AMD Ryzen?

This is a play from AMD's Zen 5 marketing playbook. Their latest and greatest hit the market with all the focus on performing the same while using less power. Whether you prefer red or blue, either way it sucks. Who cares? The focus is totally on the wrong thing. Nobody asked for CPUs that use peform the same as last gen while using less power as far as I know. If anyone did that considers themselves to be an enthusiast they are delusional and a poser.

They also follow AMD footsteps regarding latency....

Intel’s decision to split the memory controller and PHY into their own tile (I/O tile) was to improve yields, but this creates memory latency issues that contribute to the lower gaming performance. Intel does offer the option to overclock the tile-to-tile interface, but we’ll have to see how that plays out in real-world testing.

Now all we need is for NVIDIA to release a new generation of GPUs that are the same or weaker than their last one, but "special" only because they use less power. Maybe they are confusing energy conservation enthusiasts (tree huggers) with performance PC enthusiasts.

The notion that it has fewer threads, no hyperthreading, uses less power, but somehow manages to perform the same (or within a margin of error) running stock, seems a bit far fetched.

“We actually had a long, a really long chat internally about how to allocate the transistor budget on this part,” Hallock continued. “To be clear, yes, it was fully possible to put a 50 TOPS, 40 TOPS NPU on this product, but to do so would also require shrinking the core count, changing the GPU core count.

Be happy Intel didn't shrink on the core count. Wouldn't it be nice if Intel's desktop flagship had only 6 P-cores and 8 babies? Aka 14 threads. Or the Core Ultra 265K (14700K replacement) got 4 P-cores and 8 E-cores. But it would still be the single thread champ if that matters.

This and the last microcode updates seem to have fixed a lot of SA/memory issues down the stack.

My previous 12400 which topped out at 3333 now runs 3600 no problem on DDR4. I was updating the 12400 box for resale/listing on fleabay and on a whim just decided to set it to 3600 to see if it yet again would black screen and boom, it boots and passed TM5 90 min no problem.

Also

Finally got around to installing the new microcode/BIOS on the Z790i Lightning and recertifying everything.

CB23 newest BIOS = 35k.

Just retesting my 8200 and 8400 profiles first then go back in and fine tune some OC/clock profiles to see where it lands.

https://static.tweaktown.com/news/1/0/101024_50_rtx-50-pricing-leak-5090-for-1999-2499-5080-1199-1499-5070-599-699.png

jesus H christ, so a high quality partner card incl taxes would run up to roughly 3200€, pls shoot me now 😄

Whoa....

I just don't see how this can be possible for a consumer level card, but Nvidia is all about AI atm and with AMD bringing absolutely nothing to the table next round to compete, maybe Nvidia figures why not? Worse case scenario, those will just go to the AI sector for even more $$$.

If that is the new pricing going forward for the flagship/halo product, that has effectively priced me out and I will ride the 4090 for another generation and adjust down accordingly in the future.

I still say the 5090 will be $1999 starting and even that now seems crazy priced but if the 5080 is roughly half its price for $999 and can still trade blows with a 4090.....

Hmmm. One of its kind or down as a ragdoll in shame? Hope ASRock really can deliver better than the other "underdogs" with their up-blown mem OC specs.

What's the secret sauce that make ASRock (Taichi OCF is the  successor to the ASRock Formula series) so much better than the others best OC boards this time? @Mr. Fox

Seems Asus is more careful on the promisses.

Intel LGA1851 socket has a new ILM that helps CPUs run a bit cooler

Also, the new flat load plate promises to circumvent CPU bending or at least reduce it. For some reason, MSI's webcast does not explicitly say this. Yet, since Intel's Arrow Lake processors use a multi-chiplet design, their bending could be devastating and kill these CPUs, so Intel had to alter the socket design.

interesting tidbit on that new type of ILM: Roman commented on his recent Arrow Lake release vid that the new ILM sku would also help increasing max RAM OC, especially in the regions of 9000+ MT/s.

LOOL dude, those RAM slots, think u got enough RAM yet? 😄

Not yet. I’m going to run 192GB Hexa Channel DDR4 4000-4400 range. I need to acquire (4) more sticks of DDR4 to completely fill the ram slots. I really want/need the exact same kit so I’ll have to buy another 8x16, 128gb kit. It will be pretty cool. Yes a lot of ram slots! 😎

Ram over 32gb isnt really useful in use cases for typical usage. but man having 64gb and using an ai model offline the ram makes a huge difference, some models are like 90gb and can take up to 128gb easily. As much as I hate new technology and learning, ai will become pretty big pretty quick here, Iv'e messed around with my own model and suprisingly it can be useful for trading stocks/learning science/law lookup/general chat and alot more things than I thought, ive even got it to do a bit of coding.

if its true the 5090 will be double the performance of a 4080. im going to jump laptop ship, I think now is a good time if ever, then just upgrade gpu twice over 4 years.

I’m going to make use of the ram. I work from home and I’ll be able to run a ton of virtual machines, and never close them out lol. Thing is gonna be like an army tank.

High end GPU’s can be replaced every 4 years.

Hmmm. It seems Ryzen 9000 X3D chips will beat the new "gaming downgrade". Aka Intel Core Ultra Chips with at least 15% in gaming. If not 20%. What Intel have left now is the single core performance crown. That's something. Better than nothing? Huuuh. The move to tiles destoyed everything for Intel. They'll need an X3D chips themself due the new added latency problems.

AMD Ryzen 9000X3D “3D V-Cache” CPU Gaming Performance Leaks Out: Ryzen 7 9800X3D 11% Faster Than 7800X3D, Ryzen 9 9950X3D 13% Faster Than 7950X3D
