yup i feel ya. with the little princess around and job starting back up in april (end of my parental leave), the little freetime i have is mostly spend with a bit of quality alone time with my lady, as well as playing games. but i recently started compiling a new benchmark suite to get some base numbers on my current setup before new CPU / GPU arrive 😛 

 

 

While Reddit is infinitely larger than our humble platform, what I can say is our moderation here is much more fair.

I agree with you 100% on the coolers and engineering. I think the fuss is the AIB models run much cooler overall (all the engineering in the world can't defeat thermodynamics). If you do decide to block it (I wouldn't personally), you will see an astronomical difference in temps on the 5090 FE blocked vs unblocked. I just really like the look, build, fit and finish on the FE models and at $2k? Yes please.

 

@tps3443 I was watching your initial OC of the 5090 FE video you posted.....

 

Gotta get those OC clocks up man! I saw a max of ~2722....we need to see 2900+ at a min. 🤣

 

Do a CP2077 or Wukung bench to see where it really wants to go stock and OC.

 

Were you capping the fps somewhere?

You know, I didn’t even realize it wasn’t running at normal clock speeds, I had some sort of driver bug or something weird happening. I installed the latest driver earlier that came out today, and my clocks shot up. So my video is totally off.

Yeah, that was the first thing I noticed were your clocks seemed to not really be boosting like they should. I know my 5080 FE runs stock out of the box from 2715-2800 so something was wonky.

 

Everything looks great though!

I was thinking.. (Yep 5090 definitely boost a little lower than 4090 stock 🥴) So, my 5090 has a little coil whine when you open the case door. But, I cannot hear coil whine in Superposition, or Furmark 4K, or Kingdom Come Deliverance II. I only hear it in the Indiana Jones game on Game Pass and it is barely noticeable with door open only. It has a very dull deep tone when you put your ear up to the GPU. It’s not a high pitch squeal. It’s perfectly acceptable to me. And so far no change in tone has been seen. So it just maintains that same deeper coil noise. So, yeah it’s definitely fine with me. 
 

I can’t do the low pitch coil whine that changes in pitch and sounds like a 5 Y/O little girl screaming.

I did not really want to, but for lack of a better alternative I put the Apex back on pre-order. This inexpensive but handsome-looking motherboard is better than I expected it to be, but something about it does not handle manual high frequency overclocking like I enjoy doing. It works totally normal within PBO motherboard limits, but either it or the Gigabyte firmware does not appreciate it when I start pushing it to the limit. I think that kind of load line calibration was not necessary for the intended audience, which is obviously gamers that want to spend less and don't go nuts overclocking. If Gigabyte miraculously manages to release a BIOS update that magically changes that I will re-cancel the pre-oorder.

Nvidia drops RTX 50 series prices in Europe as USD value weakens, but stocks remain low

The main reason for the change in RTX 50-series prices is the sinking USD value compared to the Euro and British Pound. These fluctuations have filtered down to Nvidia's pricing strategies in Europe. Prices for European buyers are already typically higher, as they include VAT. Of course, without enough supply, the savings for buyers are theoretical.

Third-party manufacturers aren't obligated to follow Nvidia's lead. Even when Blackwell graphics cards are in stock, most overclocked options are sold for well above the MSRP. In the U.S., some companies, such as Asus and MSI, continue to raise the prices of the RTX 50 series. The best hope for buyers is to wait for a Founders Edition, but with the highest profit margins, scalpers target these cards first. 

 

In short... This doesn't change the landscape for 5090's. AIB's...They prefer being nowadays scalpers.

My RTX 5099FE will run 3,150Mhz or +475 on the core in games at 4K lol. Really amazing silicon and huge improvement over 4090 series. 

I’m not use to having good silicon on a graphics card. But this RTX 5090 FE is exactly that! Very good overclocker. 
 

It typically runs 2,730 stock. So being about to add an additional +420Mhz on top of that is fantastic!!!

Yeah, my 5080 FE makes basically no noise but if you put a phone or pick up device right on it I can finally hear something on playback and that's it.

 

I know exactly what you're talking about with that constant screeching/changing pitch coil whine. That was my 3090 FE and why I had to sell it off. It was literally making me sick to my stomach it was so bad.

 

3070 FE was nearly as bad so it had to go too.

That's more like it! If you want a true assessment of its clocks run something like TSE and maxed out Wukong demo to see where they properly settle. 5000 series owners are reporting the newest drivers are allowing higher clock settings on their cards.

 

That's exactly where you want your out of box stock boost clocks to be (~2715-~2805mhz), so everything is looking good!

Definitely much better silicon than RTX 4090’s. We have more cuda cores. Higher temps. Lower voltage. And higher clocks!!! 

 

Was able to slowly push up to 3,150Mhz in game. On a hot air cooled GPU. The algorithm is a little different.  And I really like it! 
 

Cant wait to mess with it more and potentially put it in watercooling in the future! What a great GPU. 😃
 

 

I imagine @Papusan is really gonna be able to push his well. The Astral liquid should run even cooler! Definitely think the RTX 5090 is excellent so far though. I’m currently pushing 3,127Mhz@1.000v, maybe because it’s just a better clocking card than my last 4090

When most things are relatively equal or similar, it still holds true that clock is king. An efficient machine will quite often lose to an inefficient power pig that clocks higher. The product that runs faster and gets more work done wins

Yeah but your 4090 Suprim OC ran 3130 at 44c and 380 watts, and 1.100v. 
 

Huge difference. Look at the 5090 screenshot you just shared. That guy is at 48c@3.3Ghz, so you know I can’t hit 3,300 with FE lol. 😂 

 

I do bounce off 3,300, but we’re talking split seconds here. I can’t sustain that. Too hot. 
 

I would assume TSE would provide less boost overclock. More power, more heat, less voltage, less clock. That’s typically how it does for me. 

PS: there’s a PNY 5090 RGB OC for $2,400 on oc.net forums!!! Really a great card.
