It seems Microsoft is very keen on taking over the job from nvidia and AMD. Intel have already given up dx9. All I can say… Relying on Microsoft is a bad idea.

@AshtrixI know you prefer older games. Would you like that Microsoft takes all the work with dx9 ?

According to Microsoft, with how performant D3D9On12 is, it will be interesting to see if Nvidia and AMD follow the same path as Intel. But, there could be consequences to the API translation, including higher CPU usage (since the translation is software accelerated) and potential side-effects with older games

It's getting closer and closer.....

There was a +60 off code for that one too for a bit for $639.99.

If only eBay sellers of 6900xt and 6950xt could accept reality and realize how much they are going new and adjust accordingly.

lol i knooooow right?! same for SSDs, keeping an eye out for a Seagate Firecuda 530 4TB, new price has plummeted to 600-640€, whereas on ebay peeps are still delusional enough to offer 700+ for USED drives....wth

some of them without packaging or sticker/heatsink on the drive... and those new prices mentioned above are actually for the heatsink version... 🤦‍♂️

I'd love to have a couple (or more) as soon as the price is equal-to or less-than four 1TB SSDs. It's nice to finally see 1TB PCIe and SATA M.2 drives in the $65~$70 USD price range. That's about where the price should be, but it certainly took a while. The price per terabyte should actually decrease as the total drive capacity increases, but right now it seems to be working in reverse on the SSDs larger than 1TB capacity.

yep true, although i have noticed that 2TB seems to be the new sweet spot vs. 1TB previously for price per TB. only exception here are the 870 QVO by Samsung that have amazing prices for their 4 and 8TB drives, but yeah....QLC 😐 not an option.

Yeah, you can get 2.5 inch SATA 2TB SSDs from Silicon Power, TeamGroup and Leven for less than $120 USD now, which is more that adequate for data and game drives as long as you have drive bays for it. Heck, unless I run a drive benchmark, I literally cannot tell any difference between SATA SSD and NVMe. I prefer M.2 form factor (SATA or PCIe) just because of how little space it occupies and doesn't require data or power cables in most applications. Convenience aside, I don't really care one way or the other.

I've been keeping tabs on some 1tb nvme drives for my X170SM-G. I realize now playing FO76, WoW, D2, D3, DX and a few more, my days of efficiency can not be constrained to 512GB anymore. I upgraded my desktop finally to a 1TB 980 Pro and moved my old SN850 512GB into the wife's system to replace her SN750 512GB.

eBay pricing is so perplexing. I've messaged many sellers telling them their used items are priced at or above new and/or make offers on some items and am told, "way too low," and when I point out new prices and how their prices are basically at new levels they just shrug......as those items have been sitting on eBay for weeks if not months now.

New listing on Newegg.

"Open Box" ASROCK 6950xt....

...."Limit 5 per customer" 😆

I can almost guarantee you these are new just marked down in Open Box fashion instead of outright lowering the price or putting them on sale.

I use 512GB SSDs for my OSes and 1TB or 2TB SSDs for everything else (data, games, etc.). All of my Steam, Origin, GOG, and Epic clients and games are installed on drives that are separate from the OS drive.

There are random good deals to be had on eBay, but a lot of it is overpriced merchandise. Not just tech items, but many things on eBay are overpriced. The things that are listed at extremely good prices (too good to be true prices) are often scams. An indicator is someone with little or no tenure in their eBay membership and little or no feedback. That said, with respect to the PC tech stuff, I suspect some people are just trying to mitigate their financial loss as best they can.

You are forced to buy bigger than needed ssd's for etc laptops. Thinner models, the worse. Some offer only one NVMe ssd slot. Put in a cheap smaller ssd and you are screwed once you find out you need/needed a bigger one. And most laptops top out with only 2 ssd slots. A bit better but stil bad (due the severe lack of upgradability).

Yep, that's exactly what they're doing along with a flood of mining cards. I ask very specific questions and any GPU I would potentially buy has to have a warranty with it from the maker. I ended up just canceling a winning auction I won because I couldn't get clarity on the warranty status for a GPU. I'm not going to drop $500+ on a card that I'm pretty sure has been mined on more than indicated and not have some recourse 2-12 months from now when it goes belly up.

The scams are pretty obvious when you get used to it. Some are just outright laughable.

Holy cow, thats a nice price!, Hope to see them in Europe aswell...

People on ebay are mad..still trying to sell 3090 with 1500 Euros 🤣 or 5950x with 600 700 Euros..

Yeah that price is finally trending down properly for what is probably the best made 6900 series card out there made. Good luck matching it to a motherboard design. Maybe an X570 or B550 Asrock Taichi Razer edition?

One good thing is since it is "open box" it has a 30 day hassle free return policy for full refund or exchange if you don't like it.

I'm still working on that HM65 board I got a bit ago. I got power to the board, but the board acts as if there is no CPU installed. I believe my current i3 2310m that I'm using for testing is dead as a friend gave it to me with a dead motherboard...

I read and saved the BIOS using my CH341a today to see what the BIOS is like, and it seems A LOT better than my HM55 board. I ran the rom through the software I use to view and edit the microcode of Haswell BIOSes to unlock the turbo bin CPUs, and there seems to be a lot of different microcodes the Sandy/Ivybridge CPUs can use. I wonder if it's possible to unlock some of these chips too 😉

I would think there would be less likely for people to actively pursue a 6900xt for mining. Though I guess that's only if your of rational mind, I actively pursued 5700xt's because I figured people would be offloading them for the new cards and I had already done some tweaking on them before so I was more comfortable with the idea. Not to mention their efficiency was and is stiller better for mining compared to the new tech.

That all being said I'm currently using an rtx 3080 for my pc. Still rocking my 2700x @ 4.0ghz. Probably pick up the x3d after the new chips come out, would love to see how this ram I have from @Mr. Fox behaves with it. Still on stock bios and I think I have it at 3600 or 3800 can't remember lol

6900XT's were open to equal abuse as other cards for casual miners. Those who use them for personal use then set them to mine in the off hours especially when Eth and other cc's were very up.

Of course, they just werent good options though, that all being said I had a budget to work with so I prioritized stretching that dollar and efficiency. Those with blank checks wouldnt care as much.

It was an odd discovery that of all the cards I had, the reference AMD 5700xt was hands down the best card bar none, memory temps were way down compared to anything else from AMD and Nvidia. I was honestly befuddled since traditionally AMD's heatsinks dont have a good reputation.

Want to try it? 🙂 You can sell it if you don't like it. Or just return it within the return window. No miners want it so you probably have a good chance to grab one for testing.

lol, might make for a fun little card for which to play around and see how Intel drivers progress because it still seems a hot mess.

A380 seems a good investment, probably will be like and old car in the future, when intel cancels the GPU experiment. Will get cult status like the 3dfx Voodoo 3 😁. I still miss that card  🥲, was soooo proud of myself when i paired it with my Cyrix 686, the graphics were a revelation!

True a nice collector's item. Performance it is basically a very slightly faster GTX 1650 / RX 6400.

It is priced appropriately for what it brings to the table @ $139.99.

I remember my first real GPU accelerator was Rendition's Verite V1000 since we were hardcore (understatement) into Quake back in the day. When 3DFX dropped their Voodoo2 I upgraded to that and gave my V1000 to my little bro.

Those were the days! 🙂
