12" surface cleaner for pressure washers. Used it to clean off the back deck and wow why haven't I bought one before? Have to work on the driveway and walkway next but this should cut down the time spent doing it by a lot.

very satisfying watching those pressure washers do their job 🙂

Got a new PSU, Corsair HX1500i 2022 version so i can have headroom for my 4090. Looks like a good refresh on paper, semidigital, ICUE compatibile, looks like a nice gimmick, you can monitor everything in software and also important got the Cybenetics ATX 3.0 certification.

I will never undestand the issue with BGA, because all of my former and current BGA machines never had any issues. In addition to my Clevo i am running Ubuntu server on an Intel NUC. The thing runs Nextcloud, an e-mail server and a Fediverse instance (and a couple of other services) and it doesn't even blink.

I really like the black coating.  It will get scratches but i don't mind that.  Adds character 😄

I ordered in August (wave 4) with just the default of 12 bits.

I had existing bits of various shapes and sizes which I had purchased years ago for my other tq wrenches and drivers, but they're not as nice as the black oxide coating you get with the LTT bits.

All standard bits will fit in the LTT screwdriver, which is nice!

It's a very nice precision ratchet screwdriver.  You're going to love the LTT screwdriver when yours arrives.

I'm not fond of the design (BGA) but when the cost is kept very low, and if the product will do what you need it to do, it's not the end of the world if you have to throw it away if it stops working. It offers good utility at a low price. It's only when something is both disposable and expensive that it becomes an unwise purchase.

I have to admit that, for what it is, it does a really nice job and it's great that it has some degree of expandability. I mean, there are laptops that have soldered ram and storage and this allows replacement and upgrade of both, plus expansion to add a 2.5 inch SATA drive. It's a lot more than you would get in a laptop at this price, that's for sure.

I don't really have any use for this NUC. After doing the initial review and the video I haven't used it, so I'm probably going to sell it. I have two fantastic desktops and a nice enough laptop for business travel, so I can't imagine that it won't just sit and collect dust if I keep it. If anyone is interested in it let me know and I'll put it up in the community marketplace.

I also have a nicely binned 12900KS and 32GB of Hynix DDR5 M-die that I am not using that I can also sell. If anyone is interested in that, I will put that up in the marketplace as well.

Installed a set of Kailh Cilone Limacina Tactile switches.  58g actuation force.  These are completely translucent, including the stem.

Lightly Lubricated from the factory

PXL_20230120_234552651.thumb.jpg.ea6f75c37a692c9393a881d2518d7cc4.jpg

I was interested to find out if these translucent keyboard switches would work for better shine through keycaps on a keyboard with South Facing LEDs on the PCB.

Can you identify in the photo below which of the shine-through keycaps are using the translucent switches? *ignore the blue keycaps which are not shine through.

PXL_20230120_201108991.thumb.jpg.153f2e5416eeb98ad3cb7ebd9321bbe2.jpg.8b752c4717463d6fe8d7ddbe8e422cc7.jpg

Spoiler

PXL_20230120_200302028.thumb.jpg.d0e63df38f3b0e1101d28924bd899840.jpg.3cb49f924c4f092752127858bb59ab94.jpg

Conclusion:

These translucent switches helped alot with the shine through keycaps for my south facing LED Keyboard.  The shine through is better than compared to the shine through of an opaque switch, but the shine is still too weak for me.

I still prefer the opaque dye-sub ink legend keycaps and will continue to use them. The keycap construction is almost always a thinner plastic for shine through caps (usually not more than 1.2mm thick), compared to a dye sublimated opaque keycap which can be 1.6mm thick.  Thicker keycap has a denser/better sound and feel, in my opinion.

My new Kailh Clione Limacina Tactile 58g switches have a nicer feel than the Kailh Brown BoxV2 Tactile 45g switches I've been using on this board.  The Box has a scratchier sound and feel, which is somthing I didn't notice before I started using the Clione switches.

As a follow up, here is the  south facing LED keyboard with the above mentioned Kail Clione Limacina Tactile 58g translucent switches, but with YMDK OEM PBT double-shot shine through keycaps.

This is with brightness turned all of the way up.

PXL_20230121_183139763.thumb.jpg.d5adb84151d4f3e9f395de02e55ca188.jpg

You can see that the clear switches work well to illuminate the shine through legends of the caps of this South Facing LED keyboard.

I'd say this experiment was a success.

Two Noctua case fans, in brown.  Some people measure their success by their clothes or their cars.  Others by having the latest most powerful GPUs.  For me it's the quality of my power supply and case fans.

My dad was needing an additional keyboard for when he visits my home when using his laptop.

I've set him up with a corner "office" for him to dock his Dell Precision 7710.

He needed a good keyboard for this office and he has a few requirements :)

- North Facing LED because he needs/likes shine through legends for his keycaps

- that meant a good set of shine through key caps were required too.

- CapsLock indicator LED on the keyboard is needed so he KNOWS which state it is in at any moment.

- Wireless so that he can be untethered.  He likes to type with keyboard on his lap so he doesn't have to raise his arms often.

- Not heavy, because he's 77 yrs old.  And although he says he can benchpress a 4 bedroom house, I have doubts on it's legitimacy.

The keyboard I chose is the Keychron K8.  It is also the only keyboard I could find that meets all of the above requirements and also has hotswappable switches.

I upgraded it with Poron Foam to fill the vacancy beneath the PCB and also to fill the void between the top plate and the PCB.  Also ordered a POM top plate to give best possible sound when typing, but that POM plate won't arrive until later today.  The foam and plate were ordered from Keyboard Kustoms and were made specifically for the keychron keyboards.

For key switches I ordered a set of Gazzew BOBA U4T tactile switches with 62g springs.   But after testing, I liked the sound and feel of the Kailh Clione Tactile with 58g springs and so we installed the Kailh instead of the Boba.  The Kailh's 58g springs actually feel heavier to press (which we like) than compared to the 62g springs in the Boba.  So the difference must be related to the actuation mechanism and not just the spring weight themselves.  I have some heavier springs on the way 67g and 80g that I will experiment with later.

For keycaps we went with YMDK PBT plastic OEM profile with Double-shot in 1.2mm wall thickness.  They sound and feel nice for shine-through keycaps and the legends are clear to read even when not backlit.

The end result is super nice typing experience.

Lots of things. We're finally converting an unused bedroom into an office for me so I purchased a desk, chair, glass chair mat, and a Razer Huntsman V2 TKL keyboard to go with the Viper Mini mouse I already have. Since completing Portal 2 RTX, I've barely touched my 4080 so I returned that in favor of a Radeon RX 6700 non-XT model. This thing is a little beast given its price, which to me was about $200 out of pocket after Best Buy reward points and gift cards. I'm likely going to sell the desktop and Legion later this year and purchase a flagship RTX 4090 laptop. I'm eyeing the Razer Blade 16 with the 4K/144-1080/240 switchable screen, but I want to see if that tech comes to any other laptops that will be introduced later this year. Otherwise, I may just stick with a Legion Pro 7 considering its pricing is much more reasonable.
