Yes, i try a lot of Price errors, but everytime i get a mail that it was an error and they cannot send the item. This time worked 😄

Also its Black Week on Amazon i got a new SSD for the Laptop, the WD 735 that is inside an X4 but with speeds of X3..🫠

Got this to replace it and, the one inside will go in the second slot.

image.thumb.png.398296bf6e60227769e806eb9752fd05.png

good timing to buy storage atm, prices arent expected to drop, let alone stabilize anytime soon...

currently on the lookout for a Samsung 870 QVO 8TB for my lady, shes in dire need of more space! speed isnt paramount here, since its mostly media stuff like pics n vids. so QLC should be fine, main thing is maximized space 🙂

i for one should be good for another couple of years with my current 24 TB SSD setup 😄

@jaybee83 here is one but not a lot of price reduction https://www.amazon.de/Samsung-Internes-Solid-State-MZ-77Q8T0BW/dp/B089RD13TX?ref_=Oct_DLandingS_D_d503333f_14

Keep an eye on it, maybe the reduction will be bigger late in the week.

Yeah storage i think got to the low price atm, maybe when Pcie gen 5 will be more mainstream we will see new lows.

Nice, also got today my new SSD, P41 Platinium 2TB from Amazon. Installed it in the G15, good improvement over the standard WD SN735 that was inside.

oh heck yeah, for sure. im also curious to test the 870 QVO, will be the first QLC drive i get my hands on. i just hope its not TOO crappy 😄 i for one wouldnt touch QLC drives with a 10 meter pole, was already a huge undertaking for me to switch from MLC (970 Pro) to TLC drives (firecuda 530 and 870 Evo).

aaaand another purchase! this one was quite spontaneous, because i saw it at 50% off so i couldnt resist 😛

got myself a Ryzen 7000 Delid Die Mate 😄

3143452_fe60be242b56.jpg

now based on what little info i could find online, delidding Ryzen 7000 with LM between IHS and die and using the cpu relidded, results may vary. still, with Zen 5 around the corner and 50% off, i figured its now or never haha 😄

if anyone is interested, the 50% offer still stands over at Proshop:

https://www.proshop.de/CPU-Kuehler/Thermal-Grizzly-Ryzen-7000-Delid-Die-Mate-Modding/3143452?utm_source=geizhals&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=pricesite

im definitely not going direct die, due to the chiplets getting a perfectly aligned contact is very finicky, plus high risk of damaging one of the chiplets. a direct die frame aint gonna help with that either, so im just gonna keep things simple.

ill be looking out for a custom IHS, however, ideally with increased mass and surface area. not sure if something like that exists though. any thoughts bro @cylix?

edit: well i KNEW that Roman had designed something like that (custom IHS), now to check where i could find one for purchase:

yep thats the first place i checked but theyre out of stock with no date on hand.

BUT

our friends in the Netherlands to the rescue, found a reputable shop with stock:

https://www.sicomputers.nl/thermal-grizzly-am5-high-performance-heatspreader-id-905994.html

ORDERED! 😄

btw user feedback on this one seems very positive, about 10-15C lower than stock and very very close to direct die, basically only a couple degrees off. thats worth it to me 🙂 plus im hoping i can still use the delidder and custom ihs on zen 5!

@cylix you also itching to delid? 😉

Yes  please  do that, I'm a noob with ram and wanted to maybe buy some high frequency ram and start playing. I heard is possible now with the new agesa to go to 6400+ and still maintaining  the 1:1 ratio. Want so see how this translate in real life events like gaming and so on. What improvements are in comparing with the default 6000.

it depends on the kind ure looking for. for 250 CAD ull likely have to go used and 2.5" QLC, so ur best bet will be the samsung 870 QVO or a used enterprise drive with U.2 connection.

there is, but that would start at like 800 USD. mayyyybe 600 if you can get an amazing deal on it... 8TB is unfortunately not worth it yet in terms of price per TB. 4TB is where its at for the moment.

Upgraded my wife's 2nd-gen iPhone SE to a 15. In addition to a case for her new phone, I'm getting one for my 14 Pro as I can't stand Apple leather ones.

I've switched back to macOS as my daily driver laptop because the performance of games I normally play on the go is surprisingly good even under Windows 11 for ARM emulation via Parallels Desktop. With this, I'm going to hold on to my desktop PC. I sold off the RTX 4070 I was using and had a GT 730 that I bought for like $35 to use as a placeholder. I had picked up a 4070 Ti after getting the MacBook, but with the rumors of NVIDIA doing a 16 GB 4070 Ti Super in January, I took that back. My new stopgap GPU is a Radeon RX 6500 XT that I got open box at Best Buy for $100. It supports DP 1.4 so it can drive my 4K monitor at 144 Hz while the GT 730 maxes out at HDMI 1.4.

I fleshed out my Mac gaming adventures with a Parallels Desktop Pro license that I got for upgrade pricing. It's kind of nice that they remember your purchases from like a decade ago and still give you the discount so I got a year for $50. I then took advantage of CrossOver's Cyber Monday sale to pick up the latest version. The one-year plan is discounted by 70% for the rest of Cyber Monday only so it was just $22. I also took advantage of the fact that you can "renew" the service immediately and use the 70% off code a second time, meaning I'm covered through the end of November 2025 for just $32. Pretty solid value and with both of these programs in place, I should be able to play pretty much all the games I want on my MacBook Pro. Then if the rumors of it having 16 GB of VRAM are true, I'll pick up an RTX 4070 Ti Super for my desktop when that gets announced in January.

I knew about the CodeWeavers sale but didn't realize that you could "renew" early like this.  Following your lead, I just went and bought a cheap year extension even though my license was not up until August 2024 (now August 2025).  Hopefully this works every year!

The code can be used twice so you may be able to renew for another year still for the same substantially reduced cost.

Yeah, I looked at doing that but it says my license is not eligible for renewal a second time.  They must have some time cap on how far you can push it out.
