Yes it works and is also stable

Actually do you also know which ribbon / connector you used? The part number?

Also - I wonder then if any of the touchscreens will also work? Strange idea I know, just curiosity.

I find your quote especially interesting - do you know which display it was?

It is cool to have these generalities, but having part numbers for display and cables make it easier for other people (like me) to replicate it in the future!

I will also eventually update with whichever display I go with and how it worked, so others can see.

Knowing you I kind of thought that you would just take a panel that somehow fits - it is child's play for you compared to the GPU solution 😄

Did you go with displays that have the panel connector in the same place or can the cable also be re-routed for displays that have the connector on the other side?

It’s an BOE NE156FHM-NZ1

But it has no screw holes. So I installed it with double-sided tape.

Thank you!

As long as it works and is stable with it in, who cares if it uses the screw holes!  👍

1. it is actually not difficult. It is not a big problem if a display does not have the appropriate holes. Either you make more effort or you don't. I have built with brackets from a special jig. Razor only uses tape. I think my solution is more professional, but to each his own 🙂

2. the cable must have 4 lanes for 4k and be the right length. That's it.

3. you can choose all kinds of manufacturers with touch or without. 4k in 17.3 will be a problem at higher Hz numbers, as I said. Only AUO can do that! With 15.6 it looks different again and there are companies like sand by the sea!:-)

@Developer79 Thanks for that!

From what @razor0601 said about using NE156FHM-NZ1, I looked into it a little and there are many versions of "NE156" panels that could work too:

  • NE156FHM-NZ1 = one that @razor0601already confirmed worked: 1080p  / 240hz
  • NE156FHM-NZ3 = 1080p / 360hz
  • NE156QHM-NY4 = 1440p / 165hz
  • NE156QHM-NZ2 = 1440p / 240hz

That is pretty cool, I might choose one of those, I want higher res than 1080, but I doubt my GPU can actually get decent 4k frame rates, so 1440p on a 15.6 will have good PPI and can have decent frame rates.  It might be a sweet spot for me.

If I had the money I would love to try this one:

  • Samsung ATNA56AC01 = 3k (2880x1620) / 120hz / HDR / AMOLED ~ $300

Those specs for the panel look amazing!

Maybe someday . . .

In principle, any display will work as long as the 40-pin connector is present. You can use all possible manufacturers.

Many people always ask me about the frame rates in 4k! With the RTX30xx series, I have consistently achieved good and high frame rates. The level of detail is also a matter of taste. You also have to bear in mind that everything looks great in 4k even at low settings. Nevertheless, I have the highest settings for most games and it still runs very well.

The worry is that if there are fewer HZs in a game than the display can handle, it still looks smooth in my opinion. I think this problem is overrated!
You can use the Samsung OLED, it's supposed to be very good.

In any case, if you want real UHD/4K, only AUO in high Hz numbers will do! At lower resolutions but even higher than FHD, all possible manufacturers will do.

Today I got my hands on an Schenker DTR 15(P751TM1) it has also an UHD screen. But this is not listed on upgrade chart from Eurocom. It has a B156ZAN02.2. And the 4K 40-pin cable is a wider one. So for LQ156D1JW04 is 40-pin small and B156ZAN02.2 is 40-pin wider.

Any chance you know the cable part number for the wider or smaller 40pin? Incase someone gets a panel for either and needs to know which one to get.

As long as You go with a normal 4k screen , the 40pin cable is okay, but if You want IGZO screen it has its own display cable.

Does anyone know what that could be? It seems it has a loose connection or something else on the circuit board under the Display. sometimes it’s there and sometimes not. Is it possible to repair this?

Sorry, I don't know anything at this point as I have not yet chosen to change out my display yet. Did you take it apart and try to clean / reconnect the cable? Or reinstall the display driver (if there is one)?

----------------------------------------------------------

Also I wanted to summarize so far what we know:

SHARP 4k IGZO panel:

  • LQ156D1JX01B (4k, 60hz, Glossy?)
  • Use the 6-43-P7501-012-1C cable (according to Eurocom ebay sale)

SHARP 4K panel:

  • LQ156D1JW04 (4k, 60hz, not sure if it is an IGZO?)
  • Maybe same ribbon as above but not confirmed
  • Needs the NARROW 40pin cable

AU 4k panel:

  • B156ZAN02.2 (4k, 60hz, matte?)
  • Use the 6-43-P75F1-010-C 40pin WIDER cable (according to razor0601 own P750TM

Confirmed non-standard panels that have worked:

  • NE156FHM-NZ1 = 1080p  / 240hz (one that razor0601 already confirmed worked with IGZO ribbon)

Other potentially interesting panels mentioned before (unsure which ribbon would be used):

  • NE156FHM-NZ3 = 1080p / 360hz
  • NE156QHM-NY4 = 1440p / 165hz
  • NE156QHM-NZ2 = 1440p / 240hz
  • NE156QUM-NZ4 = 4k / 120hz
  • B156ZAN05.1 = AU 4k / 120hz (might be the 120hz version of the above mentioned B156ZAN02.2? If so it would need the WIDER 40pin cable)

  • ATNA56AC01 = Samsung 3k (2880x1620) / 120hz / HDR / AMOLED

As more people look at their panel and ribbon used, please post up so we can have a place that has options for us to explore / upgrade to.

Just realized we have more info besides that one Eurocom diagram mentioned previously:

Yes I took it 2 times apart, reconnected…

Nothing changed. So I think it’s broken.

And I can say that my LQ156D1JW04 has the 6-43-P7501–060-1C Cable.

Only the LQ156D1JW04 is an IGZO screen, it has a special narrow 40 pin connector.

If you have the normal 40 pin connector cable, You could go with frameless LCD panels also, just use double side tape to hold it in place. This gives You a great selection of displays like 4 K oled  and 4k 144hz Mini LED displays at 15.6" size, and 4k 144hz Mini LED display for 17.3" screen size.

They are working, only known problem is you may have a chance to loose display brightness lowering.

I did upgraded my Dell G15 with a QHD 165hz 100% DCI-P3 screen from the FHD 120hz 40% DCI-P3.

  • Thumb Up 1

Thats the narrow 40 pin lcd cable, and the IGZO screen.

It could be bad at the hinge .

Don’t know what you want to say to me.

If you fold the lid, the cable in the hinge are twisting. If the twisting occours too much times, the lcd cable can broke there. If you open or close the lid a litle, you may see its going back to normal or it get worst. If thats the case you need to replace the lcd cable.

If folding the lid dosnt help you have a broken screen.

  • 3 weeks later...

What Eurocom says is not fully right. That’s what we know from the past. There are more cable/Display options as they say.
Maybe some users here have this cable and another screen.

The part numbers are from Clevo not Eurocom and I can confirm that cables for 1080p 144 and 4K 60 panels are different.

I do not think that ánybody has claimed that only these panels can be used but the cables only go so far. For example a more modern QHD 165Hz or 240Hz panel will not fit easily as the connector is in the wrong  position.
