Statcounter is not the only analytics service reporting a decrease in Windows 11's market share. Valve published the latest results of its monthly Hardware and Software Survey, claiming Windows 11 lost a bit of its customers among Steam users as well.

Awesome. StartAllBack is an indispensable solution to several unforgivable aesthetic atrocities that make Windows 11 disgusting beyond words. Fantastic news that having it installed prevents Windows updates from getting applied. That's probably the best news I've heard in the last year. Everyone should install it immediately. It is also very pleasing and satisfying to see Windows 11 losing the ground on market share rather than gaining. I hope it produces irreversible financial harm to them. They deserve to fail for releasing such a crappy product. What goes around comes around. It's time for them to pay the price for producing sucky trash.

If not for the third-party utilities that make Windows 10/11 functionally and aesthetically acceptable to those that loathe it in the default form, Windows would be hated as much as Mac OS. The only people that do not hate Mac OS are Mac-lovers and they are a tiny minority. In its stock form Windows sucks just as bad, and mostly for the same reasons Mac OS sucks.

 

Windows started circling the drain when Windows 8 was released and it has been on a trajectory of decline ever since. It more resembles a smartphone/tablet OS. It is more bloated than ever before. The increased restrictions and controls, reduced user autonomy and functional limitations go against the principles that made PC ownership something special.

 

There is an alternative, and it is better. It's called Linux. The problem is the lack of decent software and the fact that there is a learning curve that is too steep for most users to embrace the idea. Computers were built on the idea of helping people do things better or faster, and having to learn something new when you don't need to is not better or faster. Windows will have to get worse and software that works on Linux will have to match or beat the quality of software that runs on Windows before Linux can or will take the place of Windows. The Linux OS itself is better.

Of course. Because they wanted the same as Apple. A big Store, as well sell own smartphones and mini-books. At least Apple don't make a single OS for their phones, tablet and desktops. Microsoft wanted a single uni-sex OS (all in one). That's disgusting. And Windows never recovered as a real desktop OS from their failure with their trash phones. In short put the blame on Apple.... yep from windows 8.1 windows changed. i dislike both 8.1 and 11. am on windows 11 hate the context menu and felt awkward getting used to the center start menu.

i once tried an apple PC it was weird didnt like it either.

i have tried linux but as you said its not the same. and most programs are on windows.

everyone wants to copy apple.  in smartphpones the notch that thing was ugly.

Just anecdotally, the performance issues i was having were the same with or without allback.

Windows went south after NT5, aka Windows 2000.

The problem is you need to pay developers to keep Linux current. Didn't somebody just hack its back door?

Btw, any Macrium Reflect users, be sure to check periodically that it's still licensed.

It uses some trigger from Windows to determine that it's on a new machine.

If it decides the license is no longer valid, it stops doing backups without telling you.

I like it but that's annoying.

German blog Deskmodder has dug into the appraiser.sdb file in build 26100 and discovered that Microsoft expanded it with new programs that could theoretically block you from getting to Windows 11 version 24H2. There is already little or no difference between how they operate as companies. Windows 11 KB5036980 turns on Start menu ads (direct download .msu)

Windows 11 April 2024 optional update has been released. This update includes ads for third-party apps in the Start menu. Microsoft has provided direct download links for Windows 11 optional update offline installers (.msu) on its Update Catalog, in addition to the usual Windows Update.
