That's not happening. They did it for 11 to make sure everyone using it has the on board security built into the intel processors.  Had nothing to do with planned obsolescence like what Apple does with their sewage OS.

They have Windows users (private and business) over a barrel and some literally cannot switch to another platform. And, they use force and manipulation to coerce the adoption of their newer data-harvesting OS and Office "as a service" cancer.

They shamelessly exploit the users of their operating system and I hope it eventually bites them in the butt. I would love to see them decimated by legal battles and their finances nuked by enormous legal/defense costs. That's what they deserve. So does crApple. Any degree of misfortune or harm that comes to either of them will have been earned and should be deemed fitting for their abuses, high crimes and misdemeanors.

They are their own worst enemy. When they actually listened to the end user, they produced some good OSes, and some fairly good peripherals. This is what happens when people in high places think they know whats best for everyone else, and sadly we are seeing it in every facet of life. From the type of cars, to the type of governing they think is appropriate. Sadly the younger generation thinks this is the norm, and have no clue what real choice is.

The sad truth... Microsoft want those (users) idiots. Hence we see so much unwanted changes with every new Windows version. Same also in tech industri.... All OEMs try to copy-cat Applebooks. The trend roll faster and faster for each new year. I'm happy I'm not 20 years anymore. See this sinking ship (Windows as OS) is awful to see.

Microsoft is going to let Windows users use a default search provider other than Bing, not just in the browser, but in places like the Start Menu search.

............Only if you live in Europe (or set your PC's region accordingly at initial setup), because the EU's DMA is forcing them to make this change.

They already have a similar commitment to allow you to use a browser other than Edge, which also only applies in Europe.

Microsoft confirms Windows 10 and 11 activation issues, says it is investigating techspot.com

Facepalm: Microsoft is investigating a new activation issue that is affecting many Windows 10 and 11 PCs. The problem seems to have cropped up last month after the company pushed out an update to plug a loophole that allowed Windows 7,8, and 8.1 users to upgrade to Windows 10 and 11 for free. However, the update is reportedly causing issues for some people who say they used the method to legitimately move to Windows 10 or 11 from an older version of the OS.

According to aggrieved users, the problem affects Windows 10/11 installations that were legally activated using Windows 7/8 product keys as part of a free upgrade offer from Microsoft. However, following last month's update some of those installations are reportedly getting deactivated if any hardware component in the PC is changed or the BIOS is updated.

Microsoft is screaming for attention

In the last few days, Microsoft has drawn the ire of many Windows users several times. For example, some users temporarily had to give a reason if they wanted to close the OneDrive app on Windows. After the media attention that this brought, the company backed down and stopped the feedback dialogue again. The new Outlook's silent synchronization of access data for email accounts with the Microsoft cloud was also recently met with little approval .

Windows 11 November 2023 Update fixes AMD profile reset bug windowslatest.com

The November 2023 Update is a disaster for some.

While the Windows 11 AMD profile bug is now patched, KB5032190 has its share of issues, including a bug that causes systems to get stuck in a boot loop. In some cases, your device might fail to apply the update during installation and keep failing again in a rebooting loop.

Too bad his numbers are not correct. Windows as of today is sitting at 69.7 percent bumping back up from June low of 65%. I don't know where people pull their numbers from. Apple bumped up in that same timeframe when windows went down, but the inverse it true currently.  Windows went down/MacOS went up, 6 months later, MacOS is down almost the exact same percentage windows went up.  It's all give and take between MacOS and Windows.  the others are non players.  I am also guessing a bunch of people got suckered into Apple's marketing vortex of the supremely vague graphs showing how performant their Mjesus chips supposedly are, only to find out that's not entirely true and moved back to powerful systems.

I know I was falling for the fanboys claims of supreme power from the studio and macbook pro.  Only to find out my current systems are faster at doing what I do than the M1 Ultra systems.  I am sure that's where the dip and spike between the two come from.

His numbers are pretty accurate based on the current OS marketshare and Also Windows used to have over 70% of the marketshare last year, It dropped as low as 62% but went up because of back of school season. Macs are still very overpriced compared to Windows PCs and the lack of upgradeability with them. Personally im not surprised especially how terrible Windows 11 is, More bloated than Windows 10, the lack of customization, Advertisements, useless features that barely anyone is going to use, and etc. Also most users cant upgrade to it because of TPM 2.0 and basically forced to buy a new PC unless you can bypass it which isnt easy to do for the average user. Windows 10 still has a marketshare of 70% and Windows 11 is stuck at 26%. They shot themselves in the foot with their terrible decisions.

Better yet... Copilot functionality be disabled in the registry.

Copy and paste in the command below in an elevated PowerShell or Teminal window and press enter:

reg add HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsCopilot /v TurnOffWindowsCopilot /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

Then sign out and back in or reboot for the change to take effect.

To re-enable, as if you would ever want to, you can use the command:

reg delete HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsCopilot /f

I am looking for a script to completely uninstall/delete Copilot like the one I use for Defender. That would make it permanent and irreversible, which would be ideal.

Anything we can do to facilitate or contribute to the failure of AI development, no matter how seemingly small, is worth doing. I'd love to see all of the "investors" lose their butt and end up scrapping the idea.

Microsoft released a massive update for Windows 11 on Halloween this year. If the naming convention isn't apparent, 23H2 is a substantial annual update for the OS, replacing 22H2 from last year.

Windows 11 23H2 Is Slowing Game Performance, but Microsoft Has a Workaround extremetech.com

The issue seems to affect folks with AMD CPUs and results in degraded CPU performance.

For now, the issue seems to primarily affect AMD CPUs, including both older models and newer chips, including the Ryzen 7000-series. It's unclear what the specific problem is, but it's conceivable that AMD will release a microcode update to resolve this situation soon. If you're experiencing degraded CPU performance in games or apps, apply the workaround listed above and say a silent prayer to the silicon deities. If you have an AMD CPU and have not upgraded yet, hold off until the coast is clear.

New/newer has to be better. Always. Isn't it? @ryan @Mr. Fox++++

Security patch breaks Wi-Fi on Windows 11 PCs with Qualcomm 802.11r Wi-Fi module

Just another Windows patch creating problems!

A sad, familiar story for Windows users

Issues caused by Windows updates are pretty well-documented, thanks to official Windows forums. Recently, Microsoft rolled out an update for another issue which renamed all printers to HP. Microsoft has not responded to the issue related to 802.11r yet, but it's fair to say the software giant will roll out a fix eventually. It only took nearly a month for it to issue a fix to the printer issue. You can live without Wi-Fi for that long, right?

It took ONLY Microsoft more than a year to fix one of the most infuriating Windows 11 bugs
