Precision M4600 Owners Thread

The m4000 I have in there has worked fine since I've had it in there, it runs hot but those old amd cards usually do. Older games only at appropriate settings, I think Witcher 3 is at 900 or 720p last I played it on there. It comes up as 7700m or something series in the amd driver software that win10 LTSC downloaded automatically. I'm not able to use the keyboard shortcuts to adjust screen brightness though I think I can do it within the amd driver software.

Well it's actually been a while since I'ved used mine, by runs hot I mean just idling without gaming it sits somewhere around 55c or so. While playing Witcher 3 at 720/900p 30fps it's probably in the 75-80c range or more. Also played Dark Souls 2 on there. My m4600 is in storage right now so I can't pull it out for you.

Mine only has a Dual Core cpu in there i7-2620m. The top stock card the m4600 came with was an m5950 which is lower/heat performance than the m4000 or m5100 so the cooling system isn't really designed for them. My Passmark 3d score for the 1000m was about 800, for the m4000 it was 1800 so it was a huge upgrade for not much money. Unless there was an m5100 for under $30 it just wasn't worth the extra performance for me so the m4000 is just fine.

https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/compare/FirePro-M5950-vs-FirePro-M4000-vs-FirePro-M5100/233vs238vs2818

My rtx 2060m 90w idles about 45c with an msiab OC 163/515 and also with a hot running i5-10300h cpu for comparison.

m5100 on Ebay is around 40$, I never use scamazon. m4000 on Ebay is 20-40$. I wouldn't invest more than about 30$ into any of those really, I paid around $20 off ebay a few years ago for the m4000.

did some m4600's came with no cd burner.??

yesterday i tried to burn a music cd but couldnt do it as it said on media player that i need to connect burner..

since i was using an iso created with msmg i tought i had removed something that broke cd burning.  reinstalled default windows and same. so i went ahead and open it up and the cd-dvd says

HL DS DVD ROM DRIVE.

model-DU7ON

so it says DVD ROM...?? cant remember the last time i burned a cd.. i was sure ive done it before on m4600. but maybe not..

so this its just a dvd cd drive.??

would any other cd-dvd drive work.? i mean are all cd-dvd for laptops the same dimmensions.??

Yes, all of these systems had a base option that was a plain DVD-ROM drive.  You can install another drive (I've done it on my M6700).  It needs to be an "ultra slim" drive, I can't remember the exact size but its around 9.5mm or 9.7mm.  The 12mm ones are too tall.  You'll want one with a flat faceplate/bezel (some might have one that is rounded at the bottom to match the style of the laptop it came from) but it's actually pretty easy to snap the faceplate off and replace it too.

ROM Read Only, no burn. I'd just order an  USB external DVD burner online or get one at stores that still sell them. I have one of those extra hdd/ssd holders that fit into the drive space. I still have an external USB DVD burner I got for around $20, 10 years ago still works fine. Here's one that's cheap, if you burn a lot though I'd get a better brand as this one is off brand for now and then use imo.

The Intel 6250 card does support 5 GHz WiFi, but it is not a WWAN card (no SIM + 4G access).

I am planning to upgrade Nvidia Quadro 1000m to AMD Radeon E9260, and is it worth it?

I know NVidia GPUs after Kepler will not work with M4600 in windows machines.

Will Linux OS will work with NVidia GPUs after Kepler?

AMD Radeon E9260 (E16GMF) with 8GB Vram.

Thank You.

E9260 and Radeon Pro WX 4150 are the same chip. I don't think it will support internal display.

AMD Radeon Pro Wx 4150 cost $160.00 CAD

Bricscad software for 3D modeling.

The only problem is that AMD Firepro cannot overclock the GPU.

No Problem.

Not quite right, I overclocked this card quite a bit alongside @valuxin which is documented in the GPU upgrade thread archived and linked here.

Hi, Receiver; What GPU software did you use to overclock AMD Firepro?

Fairly certain nothing special, just Afterburner.

You will need to flash custom vbios, with it I was able to hit 1Ghz core and 6000 memory with 1.1v, though keep in mind my card wouldnt hit that without some additional attention from the vBIOS modder @valuxin so I couldnt say if it would work for yours, YMMV and anything you do is at your own risk.
