Typically what I'll do is some experimentation by starting at the maximum speed I know the CPU is stable at, and then I'll run cinebench and keep increasing the frequency by 100 MHz steps until the system crashes. At whatever frequency the system crashes at, I set the CPU multiplier to match and also increase the voltage by 25mv. I'll then run cinebench again. If the system still crashes, I raise the voltage by additional 25mv steps until the system is stable.

I then repeat this process until I run out of thermal headroom. Typically the frequencies you can reach in games will be higher than what you can achieve in cinebench by another few hundred MHz since the load will not be as high.

In the end, after so much forcing, I stayed at 4.3, when I reached 4.4 I averaged too much of the current limited processor and it exceeded the temperature reaching 93c, I better stay at 4.3 at 83c, I also asked for 0.75mv to be stable

Hi fellas!

I just finished my installation of Quadro RTX 3000 on my AW 18, and it rocks!!

Modding was a real pain in the arse:

- cutting the heatsink was mandatory

- cutting the fins was also necessary IOT fit the displaced HS into the chassis

- glueing one nut was needed to secure the card on the MB

- I also added a piece of metal to streghthen the card onto the MB

Modded inf was also needed for driver installation (the easy part actually as I'm used to modding nvidia drivers 🙂 )

Card runs cool despite the fact I have (only) the 75W heatsink, with around 72°C after a run of 3DMark

Thanks a lot for the different tutorials, here and on NBRarchive.

BTW I have unlocked BIOS A12 (many thanks to ssj92 for sharing all unlocked AW BIOSes here), I wonder if I can extract a bit more juice of my 4810mq (like force max turbo bins or something)?

Or do I absolutely need 4930mx for overclocking?

Run 3dmark firestrike.

4810MQ can be OC using throttlestop to like 3.9ghz or something I think

Hello. My RTX Quadro 4000 should perform better but i got only 12000-15500 grafics score in fire strike, and during test GPU is often works only at half capacity ( 30-60% load of gpu) temps are oc ( no more than 72 degrees)

Any suggestions? It should be at least 18000 score at least or even up to 20000

Very nice, but only ~11% faster at best than rtx 4000. I think rtx 5000 is the best upgrade so far (21k score)

Submit a ticket to 3dmark support and link to your result. Tell them the GPU. They will fix it in 24 hours and all your results will become valid.

Verify that it is working at normal TDP, I had acceleration problems with that GPU, I requested it by putting it in calculation mode, restart and then calculation and graphics mode, so it stopped accelerating.

I also went ahead and installed an RTX 3000. I got my hands on an HP one. It required a lot of modding, but the result was tottaly worth it. Perfomance  was in par with my 980m SLI. I will make a post about the install too.

What do you have expected? It’s like an RTX 2060. And an RTX 2060 is like a GTX 1070. And 980m SLI is like a 1070. But now you have Raytracing and a Single Card.

It's totally worth it. Having to deal with the scaling problems that SLI has, and the fact trying to figure out the best settings each time, is a win-win upgrade.

Plus I no logner need my dual psu mod.

Hi and thanks for this thread🫶🏻

Undusted my 2014 AW18 with 4700mq and dual 780m. I just bought the 4940mx and a PNY RTX 3000 MXM. I unfortunately can’t find a DDR3 set with 2133mhz anymore in my country. Maybe someone have a good source or eBay?

Anyways I will probably ask for help when all parts arrive and I’m doing the bios flash and settings🤣

Happy modding!

Looking at the layouts for the PNY rtx 3000 and rtx 5000... what sort of modifications are required to get those to mate with the heatsink (OG heatsink vs the aftermarket pascal heatsinks)?

I'm definitely curious now (though for me the target system would be an m17xR4).

Hey TruenoG7 what kind of problems? I was planning to run a RTX 3000 or RTX 4000 in the 1st and put a P4000 on the 2nd, Only because on my Clevo p879dm3-g I discovered I can run a program Topaz Video AI on the 2nd GTX 1080 not in SLI and still use the 1st GPU to do other things, cause the clevo is in PEG mode. I was also able to run Topaz on the m18xr2 in SG mode and still brows the web Topaz Video AI uses alot of power and can max out the card it is using

Hello, I'm new here and I've been using Alienware M18xR2 for a long time. I was one of the first to upgrade to 980m. Now I see new super different cards. I want to switch to an RTX series card. Which cards have been tried? Does the HP series Quadro RTX 3000-5000 series work? I also saw the new RTX 3060 - 3080mxm. Has anyone tried it? Which card do you think would be better for me to switch to?

I had problems with the drivers to be able to run the RTX on the RTX 3000, the P3000 worked without problems

Did you modify the .inf with both cards on it? A separate line for each card and maybe the section part trying different section #ers. Right now I am waiting to reflash my RTX 4000 max Q cause I lost the original vBios and no other vBios is working so it is dead until I find vbios 90.04.2A.00.0C. Techpowerup does not have it but I tried all they have listed and I had to reflash with neoprogrammer just to get the m18x r2 to even see the card. Now I have 2 P4000s sitting in a box.
