I have tried to play games while laying down, and it is too hard. To really focus I have to be sitting upright in a chair.

@Tenoroon actually I do it all the time. I live in a tiny Japanese apartment and no living room. My bed is my office/lounge. But its just a regular bed :classic_wink:

I do have the biggest laptop table and a cooler on top of that for my laptops.

Japanese word is おたく (otaku)

It can mean a nerd in general or someone with a consuming passion about something. ie gaming otaku or manga otaku

Anyone who bought this would definitely be an otaku

That's totally weird and doesn't look comfortable to me, I try not to associate where I rest with gaming which isn't restful most of the time. What does Kotaku refer to if otaku is for nerd? used to go to that obnoxious webring of sites of which kotaku is one of them.

Bed is for sleeping or smashing...not much else! 😛 If I don't have those intentions I'm not in the bed. I am not the type of person to sit in bed aimlessly, and I get out as soon as I'm awake. I won't watch TV or movies from bed, although I did when I was younger. Just my preferences.

You had me stumped with this one. I couldn't find it in any of my dictionaries.

I ended up asking a guy I work with (Native Japanese) He had never heard of it either, but.

(Yeah I will end that sentence with a preposition :classic_tongue:)

Ko in front of a noun means its a smaller version. ie Inu is a dog, koinu is a puppy, neko is cat, koneko is kitten.

kotako means a small otaku. I guess this means a child otaku, or more likely a 'tween'

https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kotaku

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kotaku

コタク Kotaku  - is also written in Katakana, which means it is not a native Japanese word.  おたく Otaku in Hiragana, Native Japanese word.

I can't do anything on a PC/laptop in bed. Although this of course looks different, since you basically have a table above the bed, and the bed itself allows for a sitting position. But this looks weird still.

Must not show it to my wife - she's going to want this for sure :classic_laugh:

Lol thanks. Yeah my guess is someone who was involved with the starting of kotaku was familiar with japanese and played with it, it is kind of a nerdy focused website. I guess maybe I could just ask in their comments section or maybe they have an "about" link.

I agree.

Japanese people do normal stuff, go to work, pay their mortgage, worry about their kids.  But yeah, everything else is freakin weird :classic_ninja:

Basically men who do not chase women and not interested in sex.

And I really do not understand them :classic_unsure:

For many young people in Japan especially in the inner city you must take full efficiency of the tiny space you carved out for yourself in your studio/loft.

Even not having a private kitchen and bathroom would be common in those settings.

maybe thats part of the thingy: who wouldnt be embarrassed to invite a date over into such a tiny space? 😅
