Precision M6800 questions and upgrades

Remove the CMOS battery, hold the power button for 30 seconds and then try again with the M6100.

Update: The M6800 GPU heatsink I ordered from ebay has just arrived at my doorstep! Shipping sure is quick! But that's because I'm in Singapore and shipping from China only takes 1-2 days... 😆

It doesn't fit when I put the palmrest.......

 

Please help, I upgraded to an i7 4910mq, it doesn't work. There are 3 LEDS on the corner of the PC. 1 IS ON, 2ND IS BLINKING AND 3RD IS OFF.

 

Edit: it's a RAM module error but after swapping to an i7 4700MQ, all the RAM (4/4) are recognized...

Edit: it's a RAM module error but after swapping to an i7 4700MQ, all the RAM (4/4) are recognized...

maybe the IMC of the 4700 has a better bin then the one from the 4910. do u tried only 2 modules or 4x4GB? possible the IMC from the 4910 has probs with 4x dual-rank(8GB) modules

I tested with everything, 1R8, 2R8. It doesn't like dual channel... Waited for nothing and 35€ gone 😞

 

The heatsink: max 83C core temp, stable TDP (no 40W TDP bug). 150W then 130W then 120W (because of thermal throttling). I didn't use PTM7950 yet and the fan area wasn't really open for intake. Sadly the palmrest won't close because of the heatsink....

No, it's maybe the thickness of it but it's the same thickness as the OEM one, mmmh.

n think i only need a new heatsink in the 7720 when i would put an RTX card in bcs temps r really good(P5200 @ 110W max. 59°c. CPU max. 73°c. at 26°c. ambient temp. - used arctic mx-7 for both)

Just got one of those for my M6800, without antennas, because I really didn't want to take the screen apart too, to swap them out, and now I'm having some problems.

Ubuntu Studio 24.04 LTS booted right up with the new card, but it didn't see any WiFi at all.  lspci says:

I swapped back to the old card, and it wouldn't boot.  Got stuck on the second Ubuntu Studio splash screen, after auto-login, for loading the user's settings.  Same with no card, and even with the new card again!  It was rock-solid reliable before!  The BIOS says with the new card:

 

I finally got it to boot again, with the new card, though I don't know how or why.  Didn't change anything.  And I still don't have WiFi.  Fortunately, my home dock is wired, and that still works, but I do need WiFi when I take it places.

 

Any ideas?

It appears to be a software issue, as evidenced by the BIOS seeing it, and the output of the Ubuntu community's Wireless Info Script:

The only way the palmrest can close it by removing the top left PCB for the sound system... . I even removed one metallic piece that was on its way but that didn't fix the issue. I even removed the 3mm thick thermal pad that was on the mobo
