Of course I discover these after I get rid of my P4000. Perhaps it's time to play with one again 😄

the card has its bios stock, the alienware bios A14+ mod, I managed to make it start but in the device manager you don't see the display adapter, it only shows 3d accelerator and audio, it won't let me install the drivers I really don't know what Damn it happens, I put it in my other alienware 18 and everything is perfect, I only have problems with the alienware 17.

I was able to make it work, for some reason in the first place, apparently when I put the heatsink on, when I put all the screws correctly, it did not give a signal, when I loosened them, yes, so I left them like that, then when I started windows, only the 3D controller appeared, I did not identify it the card in another way, I forced the installation of the driver, luckily it worked great, and all good for now, temperatures do not exceed 68c with the P3000

OK! got this tucked away in my P4000 folder, When the time comes the m6700 will remove the GTX 980m and it will get a Quadro. I find it funny my m17x and m18x both have Quadro's and m6700 has GTX HAHA Don't tell Dell lol

Thanks!

I spent a whole day flashing vBIOS for P4000 and it crashed... vBIOS P4000 is .bin extension. It does not have the .rom extension like the usual P5000 and p3000.

Anyone have another vBIOS P4000?

I did a p3000 upgrade on my 17 as well and then a p3200 , my temps never go above 55C with minimal fans,  so your almost 70C is very high.

You need early vbios for the p4000 to get work in your m6700. I can dig ip my drive to check it if i have vbios.

Just ordered a Precision 7720 with a Quadro P4000.  I'll let you know how it turns out.  If it doesn't turn out well I suppose it's just an excuse to spend the money on a P5000 upgrade lol.

This will be my first Nvidia GPU as I've always used AMD cards since the ATi days.  Is there anything I need to know that's different about Nvidia before I go flashing vbioses and messing with stuff?

Currently I have a Firepro M6100 in my Precision M6600 with VRAM at 1780MHz and core at 1320MHz.  I have no idea how I managed to finally get afterburner to work but I just thought I'd put it out there's it's possible before I replace the unit.

Pretty sure Pascal is the first generation where NVIDIA enforces digital signature verification on the vBIOS.  So, you can't just dump the vBIOS, "adjust values", and flash it back on.  (Well, you can, but the GPU will reject it and won't operate.)  You can however cross-flash a different official vBIOS that comes from another P4000 card if it has more desirable behavior than yours.

Maybe someone has found a way around this by now but that was the situation when I was messing with a P5000 back in around 2019.

All versions above are intended for iMac only, it won't work for Dell, and it will report an error. Dell vbios has a different internal structure, where the UEFI/GOP driver is before the power tables. This makes changes in the bios break some checksums that can cause error 43. I tried to modify the hexadecimal code and failed over 20 times. I asked a professional friend for help to fix the checksum error, but it still hasn't been successful. I used a language translation aigpt, sorry.

Thanks for the heads up.

I got the card and it's working great as is anyway.  I wish I could overclock it as even until it's heaviest load like 55C maximum which is amazing but also I feel like there's so much potential wasted.

My M6600 by comparison would hover around 80c-85cwith brand new paste.(Mind that the GPU has a 20% overclock on it as well, but it only raised the temps ~8C.)

The GPU cooling system of the M6600 and M6700 is better than that of the M6800, It has 3 copper bars instead of 2 like the M6800. I don't know what your fan speed, but for my M6800, it reaches 4500-4900 RPM and I also use liquid metal thermal. If the GPU temperature is too high, you can use Dell Fan Manager and run the GPU fan at maximum speed.. I'm still trying to modify the vBIOS for the P4000 on the M6800, hoping for results soon. A while back, I used the P3000 and was the first to overclock it to almost the default P4000. But at that time, my family went through a financial crisis and I had to sell my laptop. I didn't have the mental space for anything else and didn't want to back up the overclocked vBIOS of the P3000.

I know that veteran members like Aaron44126, TheQuentincc, Mr. Fox, ssj92... have been involved in Dell forums for a very long time, even on other forums. I'm pretty sure they have absolute experience, you can ask for their help

Hello, sorry to bother you but I'm doing the same upgrade myself (p3000 and alienware 17 r1) do I need the 120hz screen to be able to get the card running? It's detected in my bios, but not in device manager.

Hey everyone, new to the forum but wasn't finding much active discussion on this so i'll leave some info here.

I have two of  the Alienware 17 r1 (2014) p18e models to mess around with. Both with 60hz screens however i do have a 120hz panel and the eDP cable to try at some point in the future. While optimus does tank some performance, having the intel iGPU available is nice to have as a backup.

I recently bought a P4000 to put in one of them. With UEFI boot enabled and CSM disabled, it shows up just fine in windows. First as a generic '3D Video Controller' but worked perfectly after using NVCleanstall. The P4000 came with the 86.04.3A.00.3A vbios version installed. HWInfo claims it never pulls more than 70w under full load but it does achieve a 4003 TimeSpy score. That being said it never tops over 65c and I feel there's a lot more headroom.

For 'science' I'm going to be flashing the Mac OC'd bios first to see if things boot and maybe achieve a 4200+ TimeSpy. Worst case i'll just increase the TDP limits using the Pascal TDP Tweaker and flash that to see if anything improves.

For flashing I have the venerable CH341A with 1.8v adapter. Plenty of experience using it with desktop boards but realized I needed the 1.8v adapter for this kind of vbios chip. Confirmed first it's a newer revision and actually outputs 1.8v instead of 2-3v.

Wish me luck!

p.s.

@jdngy if i'm not mistaken, you'll be fine with the 60hz screen. The fact it shows up in the bios but not windows means you probably aren't booting with UEFI or have CSM enabled. It also might mean it's showing up in device manager but under a weird category like mine did as a '3D Video Controller'

Reporting back with results! I can confirm the OC P4000 vbios for Mac works great on the Alienware p18e (at least the 60hz version). No issues flashing, laptop booted right up and I didn't even need to re-install the NVCleanstall drivers. Bios revision shows as DE.EA.00.BE.EF 😅 - it now boosts to over 1600mhz and pulls over 100w to achieve a TimeSpy GPU score of 4800!

I don't know if the issues @0tohero04081988 had was just with the Precision or if they were trying to flash with software, but i'm very pleased with the results. No need to try the simpler TDP Tweaker bios files as it does not increase boost clocks.

The macrumors modder m0bil who uploaded the files also included an experimental 'OC3' version that increases the boost and voltage a bit more. I don't feel any need to try it unless somebody here is curious.

The next steps i might try is with the 120hz panel which might require a modded motherboard bios to allow toggling graphic modes.

Extra photo of my jank flasher process. Getting the clip seated nicely can be a real pita with a short cable.

Welcome,

Someone has skills to unlock or find voltage values for this Quadro cards? I tried using msi afterburner but voltage curve is not working. There is no problem with that on normal GTX 1060m or higher. Its vbios locked on P4000 mobile. We need someone with hex knowledge to find where is voltage curve located, where are voltage values and how to unlock voltage on Quadro Pascal mobile cards.

Me and Mumbles succesfully flashed overclocked bios for P4000. He did it on Alienware and I did it on MSI gt70.

Only thing left is to undervolt. People help 😉

Hello, I am new here. I have clevo p750 with moded bios for 8th/9th gen cpu and moded quadro p4000 card (115w tdp and higher clocks). I am currently thinking of moding the capacitors with 10 ohm resistors (I am talking about capacitors that are around ina 3221 chip) since I have seen many people doing it on desktop cards. Has anyone tryed that maybe on laptop cards?

ps. I have added few screenshots where you can see my quadro performance.

There are overclocked bios for the P3000 from iMac from the Macrumors website. Everything worked flawlessly for me on the Alienware M18x R2. They are flashed only with a programmer, I tried to flash not only with regular NVFlash but also with different modified versions - nothing works, only the programmer (but do not forget that the Pascal chip is 1.8 volt).

This is the result with that BIOS for P3000 from Macrumors. with a standard BIOS, your result will be ~2900 graphical score in Time Spy. That is, the increase will be from 2900 to 3600, approximately.3DMark_P3000M_v2.thumb.png.e2766fd0ef76a309fe6f303448fecdac.png
