Queen of the South

It's quite rare that I get this hooked on a seemingly random TV series.

Can't explain why this one works so well, there are twists, plot turns, all sorts of ups and downs but none of the parts are overly dramatic, they don't overly extend sections to build suspense, things just happen, they get solved, they move on.

I thoroughly enjoyed the whole series. Well apart from one single thing which made me really sad/angry.

Spoiler

I really liked George 😞

I also enjoyed learning the whole spectrum of Mexican swear words. I keep practicing in my head. Also Alice Braga is really pretty.

Been wanting to watch the "original" version - La Reina del Sur - for some years now. I wonder which one is better.

Just finished season 1 of Halo this week. Can't say I'm very impressed, but not so terrible either. Some episodes where OK, others I watched with one eye while doing something else.

yes its first few episodes are great and worth a view or two, but I gets kinda dumb with the little girl.....looks 4 and they are portraying her as a 10 year old reminds me of starwars episode 1 with a ANNIE...they did the exact same thing with him....a 5 yearold acting like hes 15....just seems out of place....causes the emersion to vanish

Rewatched the classic anne of green gables with megan follows. Also the Road to Avonlea tv series that was 7 seasons in the same vein based on LM Montgomerys Chronicles of Avonlea and has some returning characters from the Anne shows.

Started Cyberpunk Edgerunners, seen 3 episodes so far. Looks good, they did a good job showing Night City, story looks good and there is lots of gore and Nudity 😄. Makes the current playthrough of Cyberpunk  2077 more enjoyable and there are some connections in the game world aswell but didnt find them until now.

Hooked my wify on The Expanse, so we're watching it now (she's watching, I'm re-watching really). I think it's one of the best sci-fi shows out there, even though the last couple seasons aren't as strong as the beginning IMO.

Also tried the Rings of Power and House of Dragon. Can't say I'm very impressed with either, not so far at least. I think lately I've a very low tolerance levels for stuff that I want to be good and which turns out mediocre at best.

the expanse is AWESOME! most realistic (in terms of physics) space opera out there, absolutely amazing 🙂

btw, as a big supernatural fan i just realized that theres a spin-off coming soon, "The Winchesters". Jensen Ackles is still playing Dean W. narrating the "prequel story" of how his parents met and what kinda adventures they had together....hum....very on the fence and skeptical about that.... after 15 years of Supernatural it could theoretically only go downhill from here, what do u guys think?

also, Jensen Ackles is awesome as Soldier Boy in The Boys (currently watching with my lady, shes HOOKED! 😄 )

The Boys is great! I was thinking to get my lady to watch this one also, but I'm not entirely sure she's going to enjoy it as much as I did :classic_laugh: I fear it's way to much gore for her, which she usually doesn't like whatever the show is about.

the thing that convinced mine was the fact that the show is completely unpredictable. shes usually pretty good at guessing how a series or movie progresses / ends, but this time around shes frequently clueless and surprised haha

Yeah, I can see that. I remember when I started watching, unpredictability of it was one of the things that kept me engaged.

hm interesting, got it on my watch list but havent started yet. lets see... i do agree tho that star wars has started this kinda "watering down" journey ever since disney secured the rights. seems like too much material in too little time, same for the MCU...

I liked the last starwars movie or second to last it was amazing, empire strikes back good but  the series ones are terrible and they are making us wait as though we have 10 years to invest in waiting.

Not too much into anime, but Cowboy Bebop and its Netflix adaptation were fun.

Finally caught up with "Manhunt: Unabomber" - surprisingly good (Paul Bettany did a particularly good job), although seems to romanticise Ted Kaczynski a bit too much.

"Dahmer (something something)" is also decent but grim.

"The Sandman" started well, but quickly went downhill, couldn't finish.

Can't go too wrong with "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul".

Edit: The Expanse was awesome. I hope they shoot/CGI the rest soon rather than wait 30 years.

Watched Edgerunners - quite good (haven't played the game though, so...)

And now finishing season 1 of The legend of Vox Machina , which turned out to also be very nice series - fantasy, humor, just great stuff all over the place.

Well, there is more around this on Netflix: "Meltdown: Three Mile Island". Documentary rather than a dramatization, but still quite shocking. Too many parallels with Chernobyl around the human factors there. Those whistleblowers are real heroes. One would hope they got some federal support for their personal sacrifice in public service.
