Specification:

It's a "D" revision of the HP's P5200 MXM, so it's a bit trickier to modify in order to accept vBIOS. I did try to just solder a BIOS chip but it didn't work. I think there's a forum member with the right knowledge to make it happen. Not to mention that my system is a bit picky when it comes to output since it's not exactly eDP, rather DP driven LVDS converter board with a 10bit display to make it more fun. Anyway the card was brand new when I got it, now it has some K5 Pro residue, that's why I'm listing it as used, although it has like half an hour in total in the laptop, acting like dead, because without BIOS it is. I don't exactly want to part with it, but I'd rather have the money at this point in time.

UPDATE (07Mar2025):

Thanks to @GuitarG for supplying the vBIOS, I managed to run this GPU in my system. Sadly it still refuses to drive the internal screen. I made a few Time Spy runs, just to test it out. It runs fine I guess for my old hardware. I've uploaded a few more pictures. Auto-fan control works, which is bizarre! I'd rather trade that for having working internal, but it's not how it works 🙂 Currently the card has a vBIOS chip and has a DELL 110W vBIOS.

UPDATE (09Mar2025):

I may have word it incorrectly - sadly it's the DreamColor  that's the problem, or the drivers, or both. It works fine on it while using the basic driver and during boot time. Once the driver is installed it works up until the Login screen and that's it. Then it switches to the external. So it works, just not with my setup. Similar behavior has the GTX 1070.

The price has been updated as well.

veeeery interesting card, with a bit of tweaking u can get that up to 1080 desktop levels! plus it sports 16GB of vRAM, way ahead of its time. but true, the tricky part is the vbios chip soldering since at stock it comes without one and also finding a proper vbios that ur machine actually supports.

good luck with the sale!

That was the plan, but things changed "a bit". Also these 16gigs would've been more than enough for 1200p, hell even for 1600p (my external). Oh well.

Thanks!

Hello.

Does it have a VBIOS chip installed (I don't see it on the photos)? Will it work as a slave card?

Let's say my main display would be an Intel HD Graphics or Nvidia GeForce 460M, will the P5200 work as a renderer?

I'll use it on Clevo X7200. Clevo X7200 can support max to GTX 680M as master/main display because BIOS lacks UEFI.

Okay. I did see more pictures.

Is it possible for you to use good quality wires and I don't know if it'll close my cover ? Your idea seems good if we want to reflash the VBIOS fast.

Also you're using a 16GB card in a 2009-2010 laptop wow. It's the same generation as the Clevo but mine is a mobile X58.

Yes, it has vBIOS chip installed. The wires and the socket were for testing purposes.

I’m not very familiar with dual GPU machines, but I’ve seen someone running the second one as a renderer. Don’t take it for granted though.

It was tested on W10 legacy (non UEFI) and works, so there’s that.

Can I see a picture of the VBIOS soldered in?

I mean your laptop is probably running the same legacy bios type as mine. I'll probably have better chances because there are 2 MXM slots, all of them are 100W

I’ll take a picture tomorrow.

Mine has partial UEFI support. I’ve installed it like that to see what happens.

On GPU-Z, the UEFI isn't ticked/enabled so it's more likely legacy because it booted in your legacy bios laptop.

Also you're using the same dell vbios when you had the wires on the SOIC8 VBIOS?

I also sent you a DM, can you answer? Thanks.

Correct.

Also correct - removed it from the socket, soldered it and then tested it again just to be sure.

Will do.

And it still works and boots today? With soldered one? No crashes on 3dmark today?

The last couple of pictures are with it soldered. It runs as it ran while testing it, so everything is fine. How it is going to work for you is another story. It seems that I’m the only one to try it on mine and you’ll be the first one to try it on yours, if you decide to do so.

The last website links?

I mean you got it to work without a master card and without IGFX

Okay thanks.

Your PC runs at PCIE 2.0 x16, that's like PCIE 3.0 x8 which is good. I noticed now that your GPU has the "Ray tracing" enabled? Is that true?

I sent you a new offer in DMs.

No idea about the “Ray tracing”. I saw it but I haven’t tested it.
