Didnt see any mention of the ILM improvement in the article, could have missed it though.

Thanks to @electrosoft for sharing the source in the Desktop benchmark thread

as far as ive seen Intel didnt do any mods on the ILM for Z790, their official stance is as usual:

Was it not a wide spread issue or only encountered by enthusiasts?

Depending on cooling method used and end goals, the severity varied. For joe user it wasn't enough of an issue to make it an official defect or problem.

I've been running an Asus Z690 D4 for almost a year now with an AC LF II 420mm. I just took the CPU out the other day. Socket and CPU look fine, no problem but some have had issues with massive variance in thermal spread / pressure.

When I eventually move this Z690 classified into the all EVGA build I do plan on removing the intel retention system and installing the 3rd party thermalright type retention bracket just because I happen to have 3 different models sitting here.

They mentioned they're not doing AMD this go around, but depending on chipset longevity before a refresh you never know. I'd love to see a Dark and/or Classified X670 too.

ok cool then, so no buyer's remorse from my side! (unlikely anyways haha)

That may change if the X3D chips are an overall step up over the current 7xxx chips, then again should hopefully be able to step it up 3-4 generations later

true, for that one im not sure yet. main thing for me is to have hardware on hand to be able and enjoy my limited gamer days. whenever the X3D chips come out and actually prove their worthiness in third party reviews, i might reconsider and go a step up.

that is, however, only if they offer a 7950X3D. if they only go up to 7800X3D or 7900X3D ill stick to my 16 core beast instead 🙂
