Acer Predator 21X

Hi,

Since the Acer Predator 21X is pretty much extinct, I thought, I share what it's like having it and post about it. A lot of people didn't like it because it was BGA. but it's still nice seeing this machine because even by today's standards it still can play games wonderfully. It's obviously way out of league when it comes to my brother's Area 51m but as the saying goes old is gold.

The laptop gets a score of 13876 in Superposition. It would would get more but I had to tweak it in MSI Afterburner because it stutters a lot in some games. I think something with the power ports is wrong which causes it to behave like that but when it´s tweaked like that it works still decent. Fps can still be anywhere from 50 to 100 depending on what Game I play.

I want to use it on the move. I´m planning on going to Germany soon and but don´t know if it would be restricted since it has a length of 22.4 inches. The biggest size on the Airlines allowed is 22 inches. I want to buy the same case as the user Porky133 that existed on the old NBR forum. The case would be 23.75 inches which is a little over the allowance. The resolution is 2560x1080 and refresh rate is 120hz.

geez, this monster even makes the 51m look SMALL by comparison, what the heck 😄 btw, dont worry too much about the cabin baggage size restrictions, such small dimensions over the max would not bring any attention (only if they find out that theres actually a laptop of such dimensions inside lulz).

oh yeah i forgot that that thing also had mechanical kb switches. how do they feel? and what kinda switches are we talking?

It definitely isn't an easy thing to have on the legs. 😂 thanks for the heads up with the restrictions. I know they will probably look at me weird when I have to go through the security check and it will not fit in those trays.

The keys are MX brown switches, unfortunately some of them are not in the best condition anymore because one of them has a piece broken of. It causes it to move back and forth. Other than that it feels nice and clicky.

What a thing of beauty. I remeber when they showcase it. I was stunded from it. Wanted one but i think they wanted one arm and one leg for it. Was really expensive at that time. To bad we dont get something like this from the manufacturers, they dont try to innovate like this anymore.

Yes it is, I remember when I first saw it back then. I wanted to have it so badly. I was really excited when my brother showed it to me, I seriously thought someone else would get it before me but I got really lucky. Laptops nowadays really don't have a build quality like this anymore.

The 1080s are not the newest anymore but I still enjoy every bit of it. Everything about the way it looks is just awesome even compared to their newer lineup. Acer looked like they were on a good way with their PCs but now they just start to look like regular office PCs.

Wow that's a nice line-up of laptops. Definitely wish I was able to get one of these cheap these days just to have it.

really interesting thread. thanks for sharing all this with us.

I wonder what you get in timespy, would be great if you could post benchmarks, It would help me in deciding if its worth it going for the best or just the best bang for buck.

its like they take one step forward three steps back....why on earth are they cutting options

cuz less options for the user is better for business. the overall trend in hardware goes more and more tpwards convenience for the average user and less manual control for power users.
