@Papusan any specific drivers ud recommend to minimize the damage? 😛
Dang it’s a Suprim too right? Lucky! MSI has joined the ranks of glamorous price tags here in the US. Their laptops and GPU’s.-

Ya 5090 is an absolute unit of a GPU. The problem is the ridiculous price.

A 53% gap at 4K is insane. The 5090 really stretches it's legs here.
Are you running a 5090 as well? Actually I think you got a TUF OC maybe.28 minutes ago, electrosoft said:The 5080 only 5fps behind the 4090 is also decent too, but yeah, the 5090 has humbled my 9800X3D for both WoW and FO76....
The price though.
It was the discussion over dinner tonight with me going on and on about the price , product cycles and Nvidia and the market in general with the Mrs and she casually takes a bite of a pita and says, "didn't you just blow 2x that on our vacation with our daughter in February? Do you REALLY want to spend two years+ complaining about the price knowing it will most likely go up or do you want to enjoy that time with this computer part you clearly want to keep? You said it is flawless basically and a good 'clocker' or whatever the hell that means. Keep the damn thing. It's not like we can take it with us."
Perspective.
🤑
(Personally, I think she was indirectly saying "stop bitchin' about it.") 🤣
Exactly. With the prices and poor performance uplift overall for 5000 series notebooks for what I would need to 'upgrade' I'm locked in for a few years now unless some crazy deal comes along or I get sent a unit which never happens with 18" variants.

Well, it was one of my three selections (FE, Suprim, Astral aka small, medium, large) and the fact it has basically no coil whine, 4th fan noise is such a nothing burger it isn't even funny and clocks nicely (plus aesthetics) along with tariffs getting ready to go into overdrive sooner than later, might as well settle in for the long haul. I just keep the basic OC on it (no +PL or +voltage, just the limited sliders in GT3 default settings) and it sits at 67c, 73c mem @ 3127mhz and fans never go above 50% with this chonker of a cooler on it.
It smokes my 4090. Not as bad as my 4090 smoked my 3090, but it definitely smokes it.
One thing I do like is the 5080 fans would spin up from time to time even on the desktop due to the FE design. Astral basically has a NASA approved 500lb deep space heatsink on it so it sits at idle outside of everything but real, meaningful loads.
If you've ever seen Transformers the first movie (non animated), if the all spark was to zap this thing and bring it to life, it could take down megatron and optimus prime together at the same time.
The card is just ginormous.
---
I figure the reduction in cost due to efficiencies and reduced power draw of your CPU and GPU would easily be negated by the cost of running the chiller itself. I remember seeing a few of your older videos with the chiller running and hearing it and thinking, "that would go right out the door or at least to another room with all that noise." 🙂
I’m on an Escape from Tarkov kick lately, and the 5090 is a bit overkill here, but I bought the game for me and my son to play together. Everytime we kill someone in the game they’ll see: You were killed by “Luv-My-5090” or if my son takes them out, they’ll see: You were killed by “Luv-My-3090” 😂Anyways, I can only image the Astral gives that extra added Cadillac experience for sure. It better! 😁 Not gonna lie, if I had the budget I’d probably have an Astral. But I’ve got to settle. I’m just glad I’m content. It’s definitely hard to find that with high end PC hardware, some parts are duds or just terrible, swapping same model for same other model is common in this hobby. So I’m glad I’m not chasing that. I remember the feeling when I bought that MSI 4080S Expert, I liked it, but didn’t love it. Wasn’t content with it. 🤣

And, 5090 should be $2000 or less for standard AIB and $1500-$1800 for FE, and $2200-$2400 for the top tier enthusiast GPUs. But it's not. It's more grossly overpriced and a poorer value than anything else. It further compounds the problem that performance doesn't scale in measure equal to or greater than the price gap compared to anything else.
I think the difference here is the price for NVIDIA's best GPU is truly stupifying and requires a disconnect from logic. AMD's best, while not nearly as good, is as good as it needs to be for most people, and it doesn't require checking your brain at the door or dumping as much money as a month's take-home wages for many of the people that would buy it, or do buy it (but shouldn't) using credit and end up paying an even more ungodly sum with interest tacked onto their purchase. Most people can find a way to purchase a 9070 XT without sacrificing the soul of their firstborn, selling internal organs or having to be checked for STDs afterward.
Everything is overpriced, a poor value, and nothing is actually worth the sticker price. Price gouging and scalping just adds insult to injury. The hate against NVIDIA is not only real, but earned and deserved. AMD is just being scummy and opportunistically doing what NVIDIA's actions allow them to get away with. NVIDIA calls all of the shots for everyone, but doesn't care about anyone that their actions affect. It seems like lately NVIDIA doesn't even care about their own reputation, the quality of their overpriced products, or the quality of their product support.
The only thing I can agree with from Nvidia and recommend about Nvidia is the 5090FE is legit, and they let me actually buy one and that’s about it. That’s some serious brain washing to be thankful to have a chance to buy one and not overpay to the AIB’s. It’s a great GPU though, we have a true 2080Ti sized GPU only with insane levels of power, which is really cool that we can fit this little 2 slot card in anything.
Looking at the prices of hardware. CPU’s/Memory/SSD’s/PSU’s/Cases. It seems like everything cost about the same except for GPU’s. It’s really odd! It really must just be the AI boom responsible for all of this? I don’t know.
But you definitely don’t want to see MSI’s new prices for their 5090’s.. 😬 MSI wants to be like Asus now. 🥴

If I decide to keep the B850 build I may just get a cheap Zen 5 CPU with 6 or 8 cores. I was looking online and these are generally between $150-$250 depending on how weak a CPU a person is willing to accept. I may also just sell one of my 4090's, move the 9070 XT into the C8/Gene build and use that for work, buy a cheap Zen 5 CPU and give it one of my kids with the Strix 1080 installed. The X79 Gene build that I gave to my son-in-law was confiscated by my grand daughters so maybe I will bless him with it.
Edit:
I wasn't sure I liked how this turned out, but as I am sitting here looking at it while working, I think I do. It is growing on me. Perhaps my reservation was jaded by the fact that I used PrimoChill LRT tubing instead of the Mayhems (which is what I generally use) and it was a real pain in the butt. It is very hard and takes tremendous force to get the tubing to slip over the compression fitting barb. It is also very stiff and inflexible. I have been using the Mayhems for a very long time and it is much softer and more flexible. Wile the LRT tubing is exceptionally clear and it looks good, I don't think I am going to buy that again. It made building it take longer and required extra effort because of how unweildy the LRT tubing is.
I love new clear soft tubing! Especially when it’s fresh cut and just installed. It looks fantastic.1 hour ago, electrosoft said:Revisiting this, the 5090 is end game for WoW for now. It literally lives or dies on the strength of the CPU and even at 4k with as basic of an OC as you can get (GPU Tweak 3 is capped on GPU and Mem sliders vs MSI AB + zero PL/Voltage adjustments in play), hitting 3127mhz and removing all player data at 4k Ultra RT max and I'm sitting at 78-82% utilization.
I spent a few hours flying all over the place looking for any spot I could find to put more of a burden on the GPU and basically that spot in Hallowfall is the best spot I could find. I'll keep looking though.
So what this means is that without player data hitting the CPU, the 9800X3D can only push the soft OC (aka, something I would run everyday no problem vs bench settings in AB) 5090 to ~80% Utilization on average. Throw in player data, and it is all downhill from there down to moments even hitting 22% with all the FX and player data but just by the nature of the power of the 5090 it still gives overall better fps than the 4090 but only marginally so due to diminishing returns while still overall being wasted because it's just too darn powerful.
Now it becomes a race to optimize lows as much as possible and looking at some data, that will be retesting highly tuned 2000/6000 vs 2200/6400 vs 2000/8000 and seeing what produces the best lows.
According to HW unboxed testing 6000 vs 8000, while the avg are about the same overall, 8000 appears to have much better lows overall and seeing as what I'm driving now are a set of TG 8200 sticks tuned at 2200/6400......you can see where this is going. 🤣
If there was a CPU that could keep up with the 5090, I suspect in WoW, based upon 80% utilization at ~170fps, we would probably see 200+ fps if properly fed = ~50%+ faster than the 4090 considering the 4090 capped out at ~135fps with 99% utilization in the same setting.
5090 is a power hungry, expensive absolute monster for WoW....
....FO76 not so much because again X3D was already tapped even with a 4090 but the mild gains from going from the 7800X3D -> 9800X3D are appreciated and it already ran nicely.
Wait, so 3 cases, 2 (soon three) AMD MBs, but only two 9950x's on hand? Hmmm....
Either one MB goes bye bye or another AMD chip will have to join the fold.
While I continue to evaluate it (heh), I am slowly putting into place the pieces to sell off another large swath of hardware to compensate:
NH55 3070ti w/ 12900k golden boy + 32GB Kingston + 1TB (on the forums soon and fleabay)
5080 FE (This will go on eBay for ~$1500)
3080 Strix ($500 on eBay or $400 here)
Darkrock Gigabyte build w/ Z690 + 12900k + 32GB 6400 DDR5 + 850w PSU + 1tb SSD (TBD)
2x32GB 6000 DDR5 kit (TBD)
2x24GB 6400 DDR5 kit (TBD)
and a few other pieces. I have several 4050/3050 based laptops gathering space.
If not, I can't keep both my MSI laptop AND the 5090 and after seeing how X3D and 4090/5090 are made for each other.....
After seeing these results:
The only logical upgrade from my MSI Raider 18 w/ 7950HX3D + 4090 is a 9950HX3D + 5090 laptop and that is $5k for marginal gains so no thank you.
My 14900HX/4090 gets the job done decent enough. I can’t see replacing it. I use my laptop about 2 whole days per week. I think it’s gonna be some years before we see real improvements here.
I figured you’d keep the 5090. Mines running pretty good as well. I leave it at 2760@0.900mv with +3,000 on the memory. It runs about 73c core/82c memory and 44% fan speed is the highest I’ve seen in a closed case. I’m so happy with it though. It’s nice and quiet!
My chiller is idle in the corner now since I stopped using it, and my office is completely silent! My home power bill has dropped about $120 per month by the way just from unplugging the chiller. I had no idea the chiller used this much power, but I’m now thinking I was off on my prior estimates of power usage lol. Chillers are expensive to run 24/7/365. It definitely cost $ to maintain a constant 15c water year round.

My end game has always been ~144fps locked everywhere, but playing at 4k Ultra 10 RT max, that is always a pipe dream. With the new engine enhancements (again) and The War Within Xpac, Blizzard has again pushed the performance bar up for max settings.
The lows are what I focus on since 144fps is fairly modest for the highs. WoW is pretty reliable until you get bombarded with player data and the CPU starts to have to focus elsewhere.
5090 is pretty near end game for 4k Ultra 10 RT max and unlike the 4090 which could hit 99% util and almost hit 144fps in pure render spots (IE, no player data) at 135fps, the 5090 now surpasses that pretty handily with room to spare and leaving the 9800X3D gasping for breath even with no player data, so focusing on the lows now becomes the next holy grail.
Honestly, 100fps lows everywhere is good enough for smooth gameplay.
My initial goal is 100fps+ for 1% lows, 144fps for highs.
But like I said before, the jump from the 5080 -> 5090 immediately cleared up that stutter/chunk from hitting close to 60fps in some scenarios and those are the avg so you know the 1% is dipping below that.
As I was flying over to test my go to spot, seeing 300fps+ in some spots in Hallowfall (newest Xpac zone) at 4k Ultra 10 RT max was pretty awesome....
5090's are pricey AF, but there is no doubt they are monsters.
Crazy part? I didn't hear any coil whine while I was basking in those 300fps with my speakers at low (wifey is watching "The Equalizer" in the other room)...
Looks like 5090 is a lot faster than the 5080 than I originally thought. The 5090 is a beast! Definitely keep your Astral! On average the 5090 is about 50% faster than 5080, and in some scenarios it’s like 65%. Very impressive. The gap is definitely growing.

Astral installed....
This card is a CHONKER. Easily the largest GPU I've ever owned and it is HEAVY. I had to fish around for a sag device as I don't want to open up the other if I'm going to end up returning it. I just took out the card and the tentacle. Everything else is sealed and intact.
Absolutely beautiful card. I like the look of it just as much as the FE.
Initial WoW tests has it pulling ~537w and hitting 2857-2865 out of the box.
Timespy has this thing pulling ~610w but temps are good. During the first test it was hitting 2900+ GPU out of the box and never went below 2857mhz on this dirty run after GPU install.
As expected, the fans are a big 'ole nothing burger. Either that or Asus has corrected them in the interim. I left it running playing wow with audio muted (while testing for coil whine) and I sat there listening to them and just, "that's it?" Like I said, I've heard much louder and worse on many other cards. Is it there? Yes, but common.....
Coil whine is on the same level as my MSI 4090 Liquid which is super quiet. You need a silent room to hear it at all. With any level of audio it is non-existent. Not as quiet as my 5080 FE which is basically silent but as close as you can get. Score another win for the EVGA 1600 P2.....
Preliminary quick tests in my "cap out" spot in WoW (gonna have to find a new spot now...boooo!):
5080 = 125fps GPU bound (99%) stock 2718mhz
4090 = 135fps GPU bound (99%) at OC 3135mhz
5090 = 184fps NOT GPU bound (92-95%) at stock 2857-2865mhz
Looks like the 9800X3D even at 4k Ultra RT at max has met its match.
Question now over the next week is.....is it worth it?
NICE!! I think the Astral looks very GOOD in my opinion. Big in your face GPU Godzilla!
So, since you have a 5080FE already which was $999. I can see why you may struggle with keeping the Astral for that much cash. The 5080FE value is already impressive! I have to agree about the coil whine. I felt the same way about my 5090FE. you have to open the door and place your ear right beside the GPU and listen to it, I thought my 5090FE sounded amazing! Good luck on your decision! Excellent graphic card.

This looks a lot like thay Rev-9 laptop that came out a while back: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Massive-T1000-mobile-PC-supports-AMD-Ryzen-9-9950X3D-RTX-5090-and-other-desktop-CPUs-and-GPUs.977868.0.html
Soo maybe my Slabtop dreams will be realized sometime soon since these niche true desktop replacements keep popping up?
Several variants of this should already exist. Just give us a massive thick brick that has PCIe slots and cpu sockets lol. It’s easier than making tiny BGA machines. That would be nice. I’m quite enjoying my BGA Turd book though. 14900HX+4090 Mobile. The thing RIPS! But, I kinda wish it was not so locked down. And I wish I had a little more juice for the GPU TDP. It seems to have the cooling headroom. I really need 200w TGP.-

I'm so glad a board member picked it up especially @1610ftw. Hopefully he gives it a whirl in his X170SM-G to see how far it can flex especially compared to the SP101 I sold him that was my best sample I had including vs my golden sample like yours but your SP106 was rated higher I think than my LTX sample.
---
And yeah, supply is trickling in steadily now but more importantly demand at those higher price points is waning fast.
The fact those combo deals which aren't even that bad (Sub $3k w/ a z890 Motherboard) for a gigabyte shows something is going to have to give especially for perceived "B" tier cards.
I'm thinking of cancelling my Astral 5090 pickup at the end of the week. I just am having problems stomaching a $3.5k 5090 purchase. I know it's an Astral and all that, but the price just seems crazy high. But on the other hand, Astrals have been binning pretty nicely overall but I know me and I'd be just as content with a $2k FE or a $2.2k PNY and keep it moving.
I'll continue to mull it over mentally. 🤣 I could always just play with it and see if that justifies the purchase. I do have a 60 day return window but still that isn't realistic considering I have to pay for it within 30....
The Astral price is really steep! But these cards have a really good cooler which provides great temps and also really good clocks. I think the bios is pretty good on these Astral cards. Seems like Asus tried to release a solid product this go around that actually matched the extravagant price tag. I remember everyone including @Mr. Fox was complaining how terrible the 4090 Strix OC was and how it was overpriced gamer boy junk.. So at least the 5090 Astral gives you something, good cooling, looks cool, injured wallet, and high core overclocks. But it’s essentially still a 5090 at the end of the day. So I think you gotta determine if it’s worth the price. If I bought a 5090 Astral I’d probably keep it knowing me lol. It’s a very nice GPU. Then again, I really appreciate my 5090FE for $2,100 all in. I think with the VRAM size, and performance uptick in 4K heavy RT, it can straight whoop my 4090 by 50%. And if we use heavy up scaling with 4K, the gap REALLY grows. The 5090 memory bandwidth is strong. It’s nice we have so many options. Truth is, 4090 is so fast already it is more than enough juice. Heck, even my laptop 4090 is fast enough for majority of gamers.
15 hours ago, 1610ftw said:I want to find out which one needs lower power indeed. Got a GT76, too that could use a better CPU so we will see where it ends up! Your 10900K will be hard to beat as it uses roughly as much or even less power with 10 cores as many 9900K use with only 8. Of course I will also check out how far it can go with 5.2 or possibly 5.3GHz, and if I can still achieve great results at around 200W and maybe up to 220W:
https://hwbot.org/benchmarks/cinebench_-_r23_multi_core_with_benchmate/submissions/5619877
Shame that we cannot bin CPUs any more now that it is more important than ever especially for Intel.
This 10900K can do low power 5.3Ghz, it was like 170-180 watts running R15. I want to say it could run 5.0Ghz with like 1.075v. I did very very minimal testing on it. I wish I could have ran it properly with a Z490 Apex on the test bench and chiller. My motherboard was a Z490 Aorus piece of crap to the max (I hated this board, I hate its bios and it was so horribly unstable) I had a 10850K SP84 that was direct die cooling, and on a massive multi-pump custom loop with external rad cooling which used 298 watts at 5.3Ghz, and this 10900K on a 360mm AIO “Not even delidded” would absolutely smash that thing! It was pure impressive how much better this 10900K was.
Since I bought a 14900HX/4090 laptop, I didn’t need this 10900K system really. And it was just sitting in my living room.
@electrosoft When I first saw the prices on 5090 MSI Laptops, I thought they have gotten super greedy man. And this is pure hilarious to see them now. 😂 I mean, what was MSI even smoking to begin with..Not sure who is paying 5K+ for a MSI Raider. It’s a really great machine. But buying a barely faster than a 4090 laptop rig. For thousands more is nuts..
Also, have you overclocked your 4090 machine yet? I seem to get about +1,000 on memory with mine, but I think that’s it. Also, I noticed if I hold my laptop off the table it drops 9C on GPU temp! No cooling pad or anything fancy. Just sitting my laptop on a cup in the table lifted about 5 inches off the table it drops a straight up 9C in game. 🤯

5090 sales are definitely slowing down and everything else Nvidia is seriously slowing down.....
Gigabyte, Zotac and MSI combo deals on Newegg have been up all day with some even sub $3k for the Gigabyte combos still available for the $2639 Windforce and Z890 MB combo for $2939. That includes a free Star Wars Outlaws Gold Edition key (~$109 value).
Like I said, Pre-builts are available everywhere now for order.
Upper end 5070, 5070ti and 5080 (aka the stupidly overpriced versions) cards are in stock. (shipped and sold from NE only) and some on BB too.
The real question is with tariffs in play, will the prices remain the same (IE, MSI just raised their prices again), continue to go up or fall? What is the actual breaking point?
9070xt's are all out of stock atm on NE (shipped and sold from NE only) and BB.
Yep, no one wants to overpay for 5090’s anymore, I’m glad too. I’ll be curious to see how the 5090 value holds up during the 2027 launch. It’s crazy how right now, buying a brand new RTX 4090 FE for $1,599 is a great deal for a 2.5 year old product (If someone could find a brand-new 4090FE). I wonder if it’ll be a similar situation in 2027 when the RTX 6090 drops. Maybe those will be $2,499 MSRP. Probably at least $2,199.99 for RTX 6090FE.
There is a Golden 10900K sp106 in the box.

ASUS COULDN'T AFFORD SEND WITH A FEW SCREWS FOR THEIR $3000 FLAGSHIP GRAPHICS CARD. But I got a useless badge/button intended for gamer kids with ROG stamped in gold on. Stupids. Yup, I had to use tape. So this won't look pretty. And the 55cm tubes is barely long enough to put the radiator on top of the big black box😎
Barely time for testing. Right now I haven't much time for this. The card have been in the box since I bought it. The tests is done with stock voltage. Not so sure putting the voltage slider to 100% or 1.100V will help much with the power cap from Nvidia.
All above me have the XOC vbios and only for the chosen ones. And the worst part... Friends of the fab clockers get their XOC firmware. Yup, only for the chosen ones. Oh'well, the results is still ok with vanilla firmware and tape😎

When you get the XOC bios let me know. I want to try one. I’ve got to say though these cards can fit a lot in their power limit of 600w. When gaming we can add a very high positive offset to the core and memory, and even playing Cyberpunk they are pretty efficient using no more power than a 4090 would. The silicon seems to be good. When we overclock the GPU, the clocks go up, and the voltages go down to fit inside of power constraints. Unless of course it’s a power virus load that forces clocks to go down.

i was actually thinking about a complete backside thermal pad... putty is more messy but also "more good" 😄 plus no need for additional maintenance, one and done. atm im planning to go all in with Thermal Grizzly, Duronaut on the core and Putty Pro on everything else. Should be a fun little side project. but ill do full stock benches and temps first before i go ahead with that.
pretty comparable then, i got the Suprim Air for 2970 USD before taxes. not ideal by any stretch of the imagination but "only" 270 USD / +10% above the currently listed MSRP in the MSI store at 2700 USD. i can live with that...
I’m going to pull my 5090FE backplate off at some point. Maybe this weekend. I have a Fujipoly full coverage 3mm ultra soft. I only need like half of it. I thought about re-doing the Liquid Metal with Conductonaut Extreme, but I think Nvidia already did an amazing job. They had to have researched this and put some engineering behind the LM application. So, if the GPU core is running 65C, the hot air blowing off the card is 60C. This tells me contact is good. The only downside to the is they make a GPU greasy. When the pad heats up, oils come off from the thermal pad sweating. Permanent layer of grease that’ll never come off the GPU again. My 3090KP HydroCopper was literally waterproof from it. Even tooth brush and 99% alcohol wont take it off. But it’s clear, so not a huge deal. -

Used to do that and there was a massive 2c difference in temps for added noise. I actually removed them (left the bottom fans but they're unplugged) but I might put some 140mm back in as I find the AC 140mm run whisper quiet so why not?
Remember before I had the 4090 LC in there.
The top and back is so porous that even full tilt, I can stick my hand in the ambient air inside and feel barely any change.
Main indicator is memory temps never go over 45c before or after but the 5080 doesn't spit out nearly as much heat as the 5090 FE.
If I get an Astral or Suprim 5090 I might change my tune!
And visually and dimension wise, the 5080 FE is identical to the 5090 FE. You can't tell the difference until you put them on a scale and/or notice the 5080 badge.
You’ve got a big case so that’s good. So it should run cool inside with full fans and a shut door. My 5090FE runs very cool in a closed case. I want more fans though. I want to put (4) fans under the 5090, and also (4) fans in the front of my case.
I think (4) bottom intake fans, and (4) top exhaust fans is all you need. I’m going to follow same concept, but I’m going to add a 3rd 480mm radiator to the bottom below the 5090 so air flow is like this ^ ^ ^ ^
I really like the idea of cases now lol.

Since this pic, after giving the wifey's system a complete tear down and cleaning when swapping her to the SP109 14900KS, I did the same for mine and put the back rear cover back on for aesthetics but everything else is wide open to the point the heat the 5080 pumps out doesn't even bother my ram even super tight.
I would add some top exhaust fans and also a rear exhaust fan, doing so works really really well with this FE style cooler. Also, it is pretty cool how your 5080 looks literally identical to a 5090FE lol. Every-time I see a RTX 4080 FE now, I think about how ridiculously massive it is. Maybe they’ll add a new graph to GPU reviews now “FPS to weight ratio” 😂-

Yeah, those were up before and on Newegg. Pass.
Hehe, but of course....
-----
St Davids has been open for almost two hours and they have 3 Asus 5090 models in stock still.
These will probably sell by end of day, but the first month+, they never even made it to in stock status selling out immediately.
Like I said, levels are slowly going to start normalizing sooner than later. The heavy hitters are going to start fizzling out sooner than later and most aren't going to pay these prices.
Pre-builts in stock in abundance on Newegg and Best Buy.....
Crapton of over inflated Astrals and other cards languishing on eBay and/or readily available sub $5k now.
5090 Founders sub $4k and falling.....
End of April/Beginning of may prediction is coming on strong.
I loved my 4090 Liquid, but swapping it for testing into other systems was such a PITA plus I run my rig totally open now so the benefits of direct exhaust are negated.
FE = Price + aesthetics
Suprim = MSI and past love
Astral = Top dog monitoring and matches my Hero along with aesthetics
I find myself gluttonously leaning towards the Astral now.....MC is over an hour away, so it would be a race to get there before either of the two Astral air cooled models sold out. That's the only one that tickles my fancy (along with an FE or Suprim).
You know you want one! Also, when you say open you mean no side door? -

yes of course, naturally 😛 still better than nothing with no additional data available 😄
You should grab an Optimus pad for your 5090 backplate. You’ll see big temp gains. Less messy than putty.-

no account at overclock.net, have just been a lurker these past few years. but i might do a thread in the marketplace here 🙂
huh i had no idea about france in this context! good to know, will expand my hardware searches to french shops then. thats the good thing about the EU, aside from shipping no extra tax/customs for imported goods 🙂
yessir 😁
Maybe consider parting your current system out. Probably make more money, and sell things faster. 4090’s are in high DEMAND! Especially the nicer ones.-

abso-frigging-lutely! never ordered at this french shop before, but trustpilot gives it a 96% positive rating with 200k+ reviews, so i think im good 😄
cheapest available in germany was 300€ more, with most offers at 500€ more than what i paid now. can definitely live with that 🙂
now to prepare my 7950X, 4090 Suprim and the V1 AM5 IHS for sale on fleabay. Those together with my SSDs should bring in the 5090 price easily, with 1k+ to spare (good savings baseline for the 6090 LOL)
Did you grab a 5090? AWESOME! I missed your post before! Great find.

Yeah, I never signed up for the bi-weekly updates. I JUST saw that this last time when signing up for 9070xt alerts lol.
VPA makes the most sense as does any type of que system. Just get in line and wait your turn. That's what I loved about EVGA. This is my first time ever signing up with B&H. In the past, I usually let the universe sort it out for myself and it has always worked out within 3-4 months of launch if not sooner.
And yeah, the 5080FE is bringing all the heat I need actually in most instances, but there are a few spots in WoW like the Theatre event, outdoor raid bosses and Dornogal that I can hit 99% GPU utilization and FPS will be as low as the mid 60's. With this uber tuned 9800X3D, the 5080 hit a wall with very sub 100fps. 66fps on it means ~72-75fps on a 4090 in the same spot = ~95-105fps on a 5090 (in theory assuming the 9800X3D can cap out a 5090 in those same spots).
This is 4k Ultra settings RT max.
In the end, it's a leisurely entitled itch I wouldn't mind scratching but am ok if I don't too.
Very nice! I gotta track down one at a decent price. The $800+ models pop up all the time but that's a hard pass.
w00t!!!
Patience and holding the line wins!
How’s your 4090 laptop undervolting? Mine seems to be about 905mv@2355Mhz, or 0.915mv@2,400Mhz. These 79c GPU temps are impressive out of a laptop though. I think we could do something if we had just a little more power. And if I put Liquid Metal on the GPU as well, since we throttle at 86-87c, maybe can get 2,550Mhz out of one of these. I think Liquid Metal on GPU would net me 70-72c GPU temps.
The performance is already really good from a mobile machine.

Which models did you sign up for? I only signed up for those two and skipped all the other ones. I've already turned down three MSRP 5090s already because they weren't the models I wanted and price. $2650 for a Ventus? $3k for a Tuf? A Zotrash for $2600? No thank you. Only models I'd buy are the FE (MSRP), Suprim (All hail MSI) and Astral (Go big or go home). I might pick up the Gigabyte if it pops because it's kinda/sorta on the sub $2500 side of the equation now at $2399.99 but even then I can't say that I would.
Let me put it this way. Right now, I want a 9070xt MSRP much more than I want a 5090 MSRP (hence why I was signing up on the waiting list on B&H earlier). I very much want to do some WoW benchmarking with it and see if I could replace my 5080 and have an all AMD rig.
Retailers have zero reason or motivation to do that. They want to move as much product as possible as expensive as possible unfortunately. 😞
Scalping is a lucrative business. What makes it even harder are individuals who luck up and get a card and then turn right around and scalp it and figure they'll get one when markets normalize. I'm not even mad at the individuals. Making a quick $1k-$3k profit makes sense when you could actually use the $$$ but I completely understand those who want one to use getting irked. When all is said and done, the market always works itself out.
Time equalizes supply and demand. It always has.
The scalping prices are already slowly coming down. Pre-builts are showing up and staying in stock longer than 5 seconds now (There's a few on MC page that didn't sell today at all). The Skytech 5090 pre-builts lasted all day on BB a few days ago before finally selling. People on the OC thread are slowly, but surely, getting their 5090s with some getting multiples even to bin. When stupid higher end bundles show up on newegg, they actually last awhile now instead of being instantly sold out. These are all signs everything is ever so slowly normalizing.
We're less than 2 months into the 5090 launch and things are exactly where I thought they would be. Maybe a touch ahead of the curve actually.
I signed up for almost all of them honestly, except for Windforce and Venus models! 😂 This was when AIB prices were more reasonable though. $2,549.99 for a Aorus Extreme Waterforce. (AMAZING DEAL I thought) now it’s like $2,899 which is pretty high. I never received anything from BH, they kept sending me alerts saying. “We did not forget about you etc and we’ll let you know when this item is in-stock” but that’s it. Next GPU launch in a few years, I’m going straight for Nvidia VPA again lol.
Also, you got the best GPU already price vs performance I think. 5080FE@999. I don’t think it gets much better than that.

Nope, not yet. I just found it funny I had signed up on launch day but totally forgot lol.
I was organizing my email and B&H emails after I signed up for some MSRP 9070xt's and an MSRP Prime 5070 (I love the look of the Asus Prime Cards) and when I went to sort them I said, "Hey, what are these two extra emails from them?" LOL
Yep BH never sent me a thing either! Some of the notifications that I signed up for even said “You’d be among the first to know” yeah right lol that provided some real false hope. I think these retailers need to offer a virtual line for new products, perform a bot check verification. Hard Limit 1 per person. Maybe hold their spot for 12 hours after notification is sent. This would make it a lot easier.I didn’t know this. But most of the GPU shortage is coming from scalpers who make a business model of this with all new desirable product launches. Would you believe that one person got (12) 5090FE’s on launch day? They made like $36,000 USD in profit by doing this. These people apparently take advantage of all product launches and try to keep it up as long as possible. It’s pretty crazy.

While clearing out and organizing emails I forgot I signed up for B&H notifications/waitlist on launch day for the Astral 5090 at $2799 (now $3359) and the $1999 (now $2399) Gigabyte 5090, so I have those floating out there waiting to pop....
MSI wasn't available launch day, so I had never signed up for the Suprim or Suprim liquid lol.
Are you still planning to get a 5090? Did B&H send you notifications to buy a GPU?
*Official Benchmark Thread* - Post it here or it didn't happen :D

I know the Nvidia VPA was running heavy from late February and in to March. It seemed like they were picking 4090 owners, then out of no where they started sending buy links to 3080 owners apparently per Reddit polls lol. I think there might be a low stock on 5090FE or maybe Nvidia is selling all the 5090 pallets to China or companies at over retail cost lol. $1,999.99 seems like a freaking bargain compared to $3,599.99. These AIB MSRP’s are getting insane. I mean, for a PNY? 🤣 That’s usually bought because it’s in-stock and a little less expensive.
@win32asmguy
I’m running a Xeon w3175X and Dominus Extreme, which is old as the hill. But it gets the job done surprisingly. Running PCIe Gen 3 x16, I have no ReBar at all and Skylake architecture. It’s really an old CPU. It is overclocked to the absolute max on ambient water 4.7Ghz on all cores HT on, 3.3Ghz mesh, and DDR4 3800cl14 50ns latency. It’s typically always pushing the 5090 in 4K. I admit that overclocking my GPU is pointless most of the time, and some games like Tarkov really are all about the CPU. But this thing rips. I can run monster hunter and Cb2077 benches and compete similar to other modern rigs in 4K. Even Unigine Haven throws down! 😃 I’m impressed with the old pig.
It could be since your system is dual CCD and OCTO channel and there’s a latency hit. But the IPC on your rig is definitely there!
