  1. I dont have a picture of one but from the exterior it looks very much like the PE60. It seems like the X580 does OK with a heatpipe system. Would a vapor chamber have helped slightly? Maybe but only Clevo engineering would know at this point.
  2. I think that one is not a Tongfang, instead a different company as it was called "Thunderobot Zero 18" at CES. Supposedly same vendor Eluktronics used on a 16 inch model a few years ago which ended up having worse build quality. In other news, the X560 is starting to show up. It looks like it caps out at a 155W 5090m, and has three SSD slots along with support for up to 128GB RAM. It still has a vapor chamber just like the PE60 which is nice.
  3. The GT76 is another good one too. The older chips are not as efficient or powerful as the new models but they are so much easier to cool in a proper chassis. Yeah I suspect the Raider would be an RGB light show on bootup until Steelseries GG loads (or in the case of booting Linux, always). We can unplug the front bar and put a sticker over the lid logo. I believe the keyboard itself saves the lighting level to hardware so it can just be left at zero brightness upon shutdown too. MSI Feature Manager is a bit closer to what silent option used to be. I guess in the case of the new Raider it really depends on if the display output wiring is actually changed. If its not then its mostly the same feature set as the previous generation but just with double the price.
  4. I regularly run mine with fans limited to 45db or less, so it can get quite a bit hotter even at lower wattages. I miss the days of monsters like the X170 and GT75 that could sustain good performance with that constraint. Gaudy chassis was the nail in the coffin for the Raider 18 last year too. There is one called a CreatorPro X18 which has the best aesthetics of them all. Membrane white backlit keyboard, regular track pad, gray accents instead of blue or red.
  5. I have seen some people run their shunts for over a year without an issue. Maybe its fine if cooling is at its peak performance. That Vector 16 is performing better than the X580 in both CPU and GPU. I would probably still opt for a 5090M before shunting. Now the Raider 18 is available locally with 285HX, QHD+ 240hz and 5090M. So far the Titan 18 is only listed with UHD+ 120hz displays. Its a shame as they might as well offer the lower resolution as everyone else does on their flagship models as well.
  6. I need to rerun some benchmarks. After running some further testing on the Kingston Fury memory I determined it was not stable at 5600 CL40 in the X580 in combined loads. The stock Crucial kit was not as well at 5600 CL46. I now have tested Hynix OEM 2x24GB CSODIMM modules at 5600 CL46 which is stable. This change will effect Timespy CPU test but should not effect Cinebench R23. I think traditionally games usually are effected by higher memory latencies with 1% lows.
  7. I see. Does this mean in Hybrid mode that eDP is driven by iGPU and TBT5 is driven by DGPU?

  9. I see that in 2025 the Raider 18 and Titan 18 may have the TB5 output driven by the iGPU. Does that sound correct?
  10. Yeah Prema helped me figure out a few things on the X580 already. Im not really interested in the AW due to its RGB/aesthetics and reliance on AWCC along with the hassle of removing their LM paste. I also like having some side ports for USB. I do have a pre-order for the Hydroc G2. Its going to have the Prema bios so its likely going to exceed what the X580 or any other 18 inch can do.
  11. It is supposed to have boot guard but I have not confirmed it yet. The price is indeed very high. I guess it makes the most sense for someone who wants to load it up with 256GB of RAM and 32TB of storage. For me I dont really care about that and just want 2x16GB and a single drive with as close to desktop speeds while keeping the fan noise from being annoying. I think the sound should be on par with the X170. At least its vastly superior to the X370 which had 2x1W speakers and no subwoofer.   12. They appear to have EFI variable write protection enabled in the stock bios now so those hidden settings cannot be modified like I could on the X170KM or NH55JNNQ. Clevo does have fan control implemented via the control center. I am not sure if the EC registers have changed but it has 10 curve points per fan. All of the 3rdparty control tools seem to rely on a "ClevoEcInfo.dll" library which does not have source code from what I have searched. The only issue with the current CSODIMM modules available is they all have the looser JEDEC timings unlike the Kingston Fury modules which have tighter timings but are limited to 5600 and up to 32GB per module.
  13. The X580 does use a shared heatpipe cooler, so both fans can assist both the CPU and GPU. Its actually doing far better than the previous year X370 model which was a bit thinner and smaller. This one also has lots of mesh on the bottom panel so modding it as you did on your Asus ROG is probably not necessary. With the X580 the big difference is just with tuning. The bios is locked so no undervolting or other configuration beyond modifying ratios, PL1/PL2 and VR currrent in Performance mode. The RAM is also limited to JEDEC profiles so no XMP or manual memory tuning. Its otherwise pretty good regarding expansion and configurability!
  14. The bios is write locked so tuning is somewhat limited compared to other models. There will be an unlocked variant from System76 but modifications to that bios need basic programming knowledge. The 5090 QHD+ model I got from Sager was $4150 including a three year warranty before tax. Both panels are IPS. The best memory performance I have tested so far is 4x16 Kingston Fury 5600 CL40, but its still pretty far in latency from other models. 2x16 6400 CL52 CSODIMMs may be better if it is stable.
  15. Last year some of the Raider 18 configurations only came with 32GB of RAM, 1TB Gen4 SSD and QHD+ displays which made them much cheaper. Now they are forcing 64GB of RAM, 2TB Gen5 SSD and UHD+ and add the tariffs on top its obvious why they are in Razer / Titan territory. The X580 is surprisingly cheaper despite having support for 256GB RAM and 4x8TB SSD's. It does lack almost all tuning but at the same time its design and build quality are much nicer along with the ability to configure the RGB with its profile stored to onboard memory. The performance of the 275HX is very good in WoW - easily as good as the 7945HX3D if not better even with the very high 130ns measured memory latency. It can handle heavy fights like outdoor raids while staying around 60fps at QHD Ultra 10, even with just 200W combined load in entertainment mode.

The plates attached to the bottom cover appear to be somewhat thick and heavy, hopefully they are powdercoated copper. I have not swapped in a higher performance drive yet from the stock Crucial P3 1TB which likely does not generate much heat under sustained transfers. I will try to test those things out when I can. Based on research from Tom's posting CSODIMM should benefit. I don't have 4x matched dual rank modules so I cannot comment on my own testing but it looks like they might run a few bins over the stock speeds.
  17. Update, using two sticks in dual channel does work fine, I just missed the correct slot combination with my initial testing. Use slots 2 & 3 in this case for the best performance which is pretty close to using four sticks at the same 5600 CL40.   18. These are the heatsinks on the bottom cover for the SSDs. The freezing issue was the mixed RAM modules. With only 2x Crucial it did not freeze. Now I am testing 4x Kingston Fury so hopefully it will not freeze and also work at higher speeds. I have not had a bluescreen yet with Clevo's drivers. They did post updated drivers the other day so I can test them out once I have the RAM stability ironed out.
  19. Its hard to say. Supposedly they are a better bin but so far as I know the stock clocks are the same. Mine is only on air which is likely a limiting factor. In theory 5.2ghz should be possible on a few cores on air, and I think up to 5.4ghz is common on water. Latency is around 75ns with the 6400 CL32 4x16GB kit with tREFI set to 32k. It is also bottlenecked by mesh clocks so 23x (stock) is substantially higher latency than 30x.
  20. So far I have it at 4.8ghz on six cores and 4.6ghz on all others. The Skatterbencher article mentioned individually testing each core to find an offset but I have not found the process to do that yet.
  21. Yeah Sapphire Rapids also has some unfortunate downsides like registered dimms, mesh clock bottlenecks and broken CPPC. I also find that disabling hyperthreading improves performance. Mine is the monolithic chip variant and IPC should be close to 13900K P-cores as it has the full 2MB L2 per core. I wonder how a 285K setup would do. 275HX has not been horrible so far. I also thought about getting a 38 inch 144hz ultrawide as the 5090 could likely run it at the exact same framerates as I get on the QHD display. Although that still does not make the machine any more portable so I can use it during the day. The 5090 itself has been great. Just stock clocks, no coil whine and temps are pretty good. It was 2500usd including tax which without any silly bundle bucket deals which seems pretty killer compared to prices today. It might even get worse if the MSRP for these is going up to 3500usd soon.
  22. Those likely will not fit. The bottom panel has metal heatsinks for each SSD that make contact via a thick pad. Those heatsinks are riveted to the bottom panel so it would need to be modified. There is also a concern that the fourth drive slot may not fit a double sided SSD as it is on top of the wifi card. I need to test it out next time I have it opened. I have also been experiencing a system freeze if it's idle for 45 minutes. It may be due to using the mixed hynix and micron memory kits. Still it's pretty exciting to have a decent system produced by Clevo after a couple of years that were duds.
  23. I still have the 5090 gaming trio oc but have not used it for a month. I will probably just list it for sale soon as I don't have much time at home to use a desktop system. To be honest the sapphire rapids CPU isn't pairing very well with the card as WoW was mostly CPU limited.
  24. The keyboard is the same as the X170 and X370 other than having a copilot key. Also Tom at XMG mentioned the key 18 pro uses ptm7950 so hopefully that is the case in all regions. In performance mode overclocking is an option so things are tunable other than undervolting. Audio is greatly improved over the X170 and even the MSI raider or titan. I will also note that surface temps are better now as well. Maximum read was around 45C above the keyboard. I am waiting on a second set of Kingston fury 5600 cl40 2x16 to test for stability at higher speeds. Tom was able to go up to 5200 MT/s with some csodimms so far. He is also validating it for use with 256GB.
  25. I picked up an X580 for testing as I was curious about the improvements they have made on the X370. Specs: Performance - 150W PL2 / 135W PL1 / 250W combined (observed as 70W CPU + 170W GPU in OCCT combined load test) Entertainment - 130W PL2 / 46W PL1 / 195W combined (observed as 46W CPU + 150W GPU) 18 inch QHD+ 240hz, panel is BOE NE180QDM-NZ2 Memory needs four sticks to run in dual channel and by default boots at 4400 MT/s per Intel specs. Memory must be run in slot 2 and 3 for dual channel operation. The best performance is to use single rank memory with tight timings but likely no XMP support. So kits like Kingston Fury 2x16GB 5600 CL40. There is a bios option to select a higher memory speed.
