  1. Quite amazing, 10 years heavy use with the Dell E7440 wo any problems. Even the battery is still useable. Even better, still got the original 8.1 install from 2015. Never ever any bluescreen or OS related problem. And the old msata 256gb is doing well, should last until approx 2125 :O)
  2. Time for a small journey away from this disturbed planet :O) Aurora Borealis - Atlas
  3. No problem at all 😮 Demon King - And He Shut His Eyes In Anguish, Drum Playthrough
  4. A screenshot of a screenshot of a screenshot etc etc :O)
  5. Tested pixel 8 pro zoom. The full zoom does not survive any scrutiny on pixel level, but quite impressive that such results are even possible ! link to reddit post showing 1x & 30x quick shots from within car.
  6. w10 ltsc, 01\2025 update done. As always, all well.
  7. 3 months with Pixel 8 Pro, still works ! :O) Behaved much better than anticipated. Very+ satisfied with camera results \ editing \ options (both before and after taking pics), Display, battery, network etc all fine (for my use). Of course, vs Samsung, am missing many of oneui's nice and very useful options and tweaks, but knew in advance it was a move to the "Desert Island OS", the Pixel was acquired for it's photo cabilities, in which dept. it does deliver. One major irritation was that (ugly and unused) Google search bar, no removal possibility, so started looking for an alternative laucher. ftm using 'Discreet Launcher', open source from f-droid. Sooooo happy+ to get rid of that google search monstrosity, also freed up the locked (for widget \ date use) home screen top area. Light launcher with no over-the-top possibilities, liking it's philosophy of going after a basic, clean interface. Still quite some settings to play with, am enjoying the current setup. Pic 1: home. Pic 2: home apps (swipe up on screen, alt. always on). Pic 3: app drawer (swipe down on screen, alt. folders).
  8. 11 still struggling. Win10 = Die Hard 3 (1: xp, 2: w7) Statcounter Edit: posting this from the old dell 7440 running it's original 8.1 from 02\2015. Assuming Statcounter is vaguely correct and 3 billions (?) total win installs, 0,29 % = 8.700.000 8.1's out there, so still got lots of company :O) ...and 72.000.000 win7's still alive !
  9. Happy new year to all :O) Earl Scruggs - Ground Speed Stringbean - 20 cent cotton 90 cent meat
  10. Just wondering, been living with 10 ltsc 1809, soon 4 years without a hitch, on several machines, very satisfied++, it just works, all personal programs in use are fine, security to 2029, etc. But, asking those with experience on many versions, are there any (important) gains in thinking about 10 ltsc 2021, or 11 ltsc, missing out on anything (really) useful staying with 1809? Thanks
  11. Probably what we could call "semi-legit", have got some stuff from them, no problems. https://fr.godeal24.com/cyber-monday.html?g24
  12. Omnium Gatherum - Beyond As before, sorry for the vocals, rest is great :O) love the drums & guitars, the sound & arrangements.
  13. Worth the few 100 $ in parts, a few afternoons and some dirty fingers! The old girl passed it's "Hauptuntersuchung TÜV \ MOT \ Controle Technique CT \ Roadworthiness Test" (pick your country) with 0 faults in every dept. I pick only meticulous garage\people for the control, wanting them to find faults, like dangerous rust etc > security above all. btw, it's a "Renault\Nissan\Vauxhall\Opel" :O) van. But old cars, it never ends. Now that it's deemed solid & safe (=worth keeping), it's over to non-lethal stuff ...like that roller bearing noise that lately appeared in some gears. Before going for a profesionally renovated gearbox ($$$$), was recommended a special ($$) gearoil that is supposed to help. Snakeoil, or maybe not :O) Worth a try, looking for wonders after that green blood transfusion lol
  14. ^^^ Yes. And, strangely, off when I took it out. But very happy about not posting something like "How do I save 9 years of irreplaceable family photos \ messages \ important documents from my completely dead pbone" lol+++ Remember to always have fresh backups available, things can (and will) happen!
  15. Deemed beyond fix, no screen, no charge, no heat, no vibration. Nothing. Motherboard shorted, chip failure etc ? But gave the opportunity to learn a little about dismantling, can be of use in any future work (f.ex. battery swaps).
  16. Yes, hard times does come in life. And one should and will feel it. For quite a long time. But do not loose faith that one will\can cope with it, in one's own way, one's own time. In a similar situation, talking to my doctor, telling I was feeling real bad, he answered: "Yes, I understand very well. But if you had said feeling good, I'd be seriously worried". My reaction to some of life's onslaught(s): accept the need to feel as bad as the situation dictates, while not doing anything that makes anything worse, slowly rebuilding when possible.
  17. So, obviously sometimes not as awake as one should be 😠 Left my trusted old Samsung Note 10 Lite in an inner pocket in the wash. No external damage (wallet cover). 1,5 hour double wash, hot water, soap, banging around, centrifugation, did not like that. At all. Split it open, dried for ages with hot air, everything good and dry, but no start\screen\charging or even heat after 2 days. Nothing. Maybe contact\physical damage on top of water. No practical problem, a recent backup + sim went straight to a spare Samsung. But that Note was a great 'friend' for 4+ years, and could still have lasted for a good while. Morale, turn on one's head first, thereafter any kind of machine.
  18. Inner steering rod removal and fitting, a few $$ for the tool, makes the impossible possible. Getting closer to a finish line, rear brakes. Calipers operation fine, everything else nearly completely shot (but quite normal after 5 winters on salted muddy roads). Satisfying to know one at the end have a safer car, and saved a lot by doing the work oneself. Parts are very cheap, garage hourly fees not. All in all, some homework now and then vs garage saved me approx what I paid for the Pixel 8 Pro + the Precision laptop :O)
  19. lol++ Got a friend who did that, had to 1st build a new garage to get the height ! But therafter immense usefullness. So much better than destroying back and body wrigling under a car... I give him a hand with stuff now and and he lets me use the lift when needed. The easy & great method for fault finding. Yes, if going to die in a car accident, at least won't be the car falling down on me! Always at least 2 supports, flat surface, park brake on, in 1st gear. Even if not killed or maimed, can (will) do damage to car parts > lots of xtra work. So what an easy and free insurance. After preparing mentally... am in the process of giving the trusted old van a rejuvenance job, as it overall works very well and still very good regarding rust, just some cosmetics (after 20 years!). Stabilisator stags, steering rod. More to come...
  20. ...and changed brakepads, front :O) For the n'th time. Doing such things oneself, the amount of saved money over many, many years = a small fortune not leaving one's bank account.
  21. Ahhh.... the drums, the guitars.... The Unknowing · Omnium Gatherum
  22. Those non-original batteries, looked ok right after installing, ok price, fitted nicely, then after a short time went totally out of control, time & % remaining completely random, suddenly going to zero from 50%, things like that. Did not catch fire but totally unreliable. Some useable surely exists, but can't test 20 to find 1 good one. The Dell 97Wh, no surprises, 100% health, even discharging etc. Over 10 hours medium\light workload + wifi, very good.
