  1. So, obviously sometimes not as awake as one should be 😠 Left my trusted old Samsung Note 10 Lite in an inner pocket in the wash. No external damage (wallet cover). 1,5 hour double wash, hot water, soap, banging around, centrifugation, did not like that. At all. Split it open, dried for ages with hot air, everything good and dry, but no start\screen\charging or even heat after 2 days. Nothing. Maybe contact\physical damage on top of water. No practical problem, a recent backup + sim went straight to a spare Samsung. But that Note was a great 'friend' for 4+ years, and could still have lasted for a good while. Morale, turn on one's head first, thereafter any kind of machine.
  2. Inner steering rod removal and fitting, a few $$ for the tool, makes the impossible possible. Getting closer to a finish line, rear brakes. Calipers operation fine, everything else nearly completely shot (but quite normal after 5 winters on salted muddy roads). Satisfying to know one at the end have a safer car, and saved a lot by doing the work oneself. Parts are very cheap, garage hourly fees not. All in all, some homework now and then vs garage saved me approx what I paid for the Pixel 8 Pro + the Precision laptop :O)
  3. lol++ Got a friend who did that, had to 1st build a new garage to get the height ! But therafter immense usefullness. So much better than destroying back and body wrigling under a car... I give him a hand with stuff now and and he lets me use the lift when needed. The easy & great method for fault finding. Yes, if going to die in a car accident, at least won't be the car falling down on me! Always at least 2 supports, flat surface, park brake on, in 1st gear. Even if not killed or maimed, can (will) do damage to car parts > lots of xtra work. So what an easy and free insurance. After preparing mentally... am in the process of giving the trusted old van a rejuvenance job, as it overall works very well and still very good regarding rust, just some cosmetics (after 20 years!). Stabilisator stags, steering rod. More to come...
  4. ...and changed brakepads, front :O) For the n'th time. Doing such things oneself, the amount of saved money over many, many years = a small fortune not leaving one's bank account.

  6. Those non-original batteries, looked ok right after installing, ok price, fitted nicely, then after a short time went totally out of control, time & % remaining completely random, suddenly going to zero from 50%, things like that. Did not catch fire but totally unreliable. Some useable surely exists, but can't test 20 to find 1 good one. The Dell 97Wh, no surprises, 100% health, even discharging etc. Over 10 hours medium\light workload + wifi, very good.
  7. Correct, ltsc free from nonsense, plagues and curses :O)
  8. ^^^ Very interesting, wonder if i'll have a go (...after a Reflect image done :O)
  9. ^^^ 2032, yes the IOT version would be my choice if updating my (old but still good) 1809.
  10. Yes ! What a fine day :O) Saver + light work (still fast and responsive enough), nice number (...approx of course) Edit: if only this was true lol
  11. The old smaller batt (Dell original) has done an ok job, was 'just' ok for my use in the beginning, but deterioration after 2+ years of quite some use made it less than ideal. Finally got a new Dell 97 wh delivered. Looking forward to longer off-grid work.
  12. A fresh, new, large battery for the Dell 5540. And original ! See https://notebooktalk.net/topic/519-buy-non-original-battery-or-not/ Small battery fitted (gave room for an xtra hd). Had 'not fantastic' battery time (over time lost quite some capacity, and removing the HD > think it used quite some power). The 97wh batt should fix things. Nice packaging. Looking forward to improvement :O)
  13. And another one, lots of Intel security stuff. All well once more, seems Dell does good homework. Appreciating the launch setup from within windows.
  14. "Edge started automatically on his PC last week at boot and offered up a new prompt to “enhance your browsing experience.” The pop-up has a “bring over your data from other browsers regularly” option ticked by default" https://www.theverge.com/2024/11/12/24294454/microsoft-edge-chrome-tabs-prompt-trick
  15. Off topic, look at this thing. Would have liked to drive it! The 30's, a great era for crazy, fantastic designs of cars, planes and more. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadillac_V-16
  16. ^^^ Now spent some time setting up and using the Pixel 8P, all well. Update to A15 wo problems, fast & responsive, battery (in my use) very good, great display (+flat!) etc. Initial feeling of being left on a desert island compared to the (by some called) "bloatware" from Samsung (which in my world is rather great personalisation\options\flexibility\good apps -like Notes, Device Care, Smartswitch, Gallery and more). Have found OK solutions for most + acceptance of the many small differences (example volume buttons under power). Whatever, got more than hoped for in camera improvements vs my midrange Samsungs. After testing did not like Samsung 'S' line's image 'philosophy' (=defects in my opinion), went out of the shopping list. Remained Pixel\Xiaomi\Honor, the super deal on the Pixel made it a no-brainer. So far an excellent choice.
  17. Agree a lot regarding practicality, got other mouses. But using the MX, for it's sensational good tracking on any kind of surface \ fabric + ergonomics, relaxing for hand, long use without pain or strain.
  18. ^^^ Well, 30 usd for a year ain't too bad, surprised they propose it at all. ...anyway, w10 1809 LTSC goes to January 9, 2029 and nothing to pay.

  20. (Ref. post oct 19) The replacement (when the time comes) mx mouse did arrive. Tested, full working order. Very happy, the best mouse in the world :O)
  21. ^^^ That is a very personal task, f.ex. I could uninstall Google Maps, Gmail, Play Store (am currently only sideloading) and lots more common apps like those, would maybe \ surely be unthinkable for someone else to do the same. Get to know the phone and disable \ uninstall over time, according to one's prioritiy for the (hoped for 😮) result > privacy ? speed ? battery time ? data usage ? all those ? Lots of reading and tips available, f.ex. https://xdaforums.com/t/debloat-google-and-system-apps-and-services.4687014/ Edit: ps, if finding Appcontrol useful \ great, think about a donation to the deserveful guy who created it.

  23. Now the fun can begin > making it MY phone, not Google's. And of course, Netguard installed > https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.faircode.netguard WIll start the clean-up soon, needs some time to locate main culprits & ascertain what to keep. If afraid of messing up a phone playing with adb (easy with command line and then switfly forgetting things), AppControl keeps track of one's actions, like disabling and uninstalling apps (which are getting backed up to pc, no need for factory reset if making some funny errors), one can save presets (for many phones) etc. ...anyone using some Android, how can one live without this :O) > https://adbappcontrol.com/en/ Edit comment: 'only' 330 stock apps on pixel 8, compared to nearer 400 on Samsungs.
