Clevo X580 TBA at CES 2025 - 18", 4+4 drives and memory, 2xTB5
br2 replied to 1610ftw's topic in Sager & Clevo
😘 Oh man, that's the holy grail. Full keyboard and physical buttons. Even Velocity Micro's spam email has the 18/275. I'll have to look at the z-book. Ed: Man, why do they make 18" with 3k resolution? Too bad, probably costs more than the Msi dragon edition anyway. -

OK, you're right, i couldn't make out that top row in Msi's pic. That's a tick on the pro side... -

Yeah, 77hx 13. I had no issue with the numpad itself. Titan 18 pics look the same to me. Surprise! ... 😜 Clevo keys are the same as always. -

No, the 17.3 from 2 years ago. The numpad's fine, it doesn't have dedicated Home, End, Page Up/Down keys, or the context menu key. Pictures of the 18 look the same. -

Yeah, it's usable, and it has software mapping for the missing keys i want. I've been living with it for 2 years. The compromise is i have to sacrifice some other key for the one i want. -

The entire reason i like Clevo is the full keyboard. Used to be the desktop cpu but those days are long gone. Most of the time it will sit on a cooler plugged into a big monitor but when i'm on the road, keyboard compromises are a constant annoyance. -

You're right, the difference is pretty minimal and i may talk myself into your point of view. With the specs i want, it won't be too much cheaper than the Titan. But i do love a full keyboard... I am expecting much better temps than what @win32asmguy got with the one he had. -

Maybe, but i only care about compile time. I'm not going to pay 5-6k for less than the top model. -

Ugh, 275 cpu. Looks like it's Msi for me. 😢 -

At the 1:17:50 mark, the German guy says something about adding water... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'll probably stick with air if i get it. -

That looks promising to me. 🤞 Sounds like there's a water-cooling option if it's too loud. thanks @1610ftw @win32asmguy did you watch it? what's your take? 🤞🤓🤞 -
MSI Titan 18HX Dragon Edition Norse Myth "Official Thread"
br2 replied to electrosoft's topic in MSI
I like me some dragon stuff but not enough to add 1500 bucks to the already silly cost. I may end up with its little brother tho if Clevo doesn't make something with a full keyboard. Ed: https://www.google.com/search?q=Clevo+"X580" 🤞🤓🤞 Clevo’s X580 next-gen laptop specs leaked: Arrow Lake-HX CPU and GeForce RTX 50 GPU- 14 replies

Killer issues were probably something in my environment. I just went back to it from the realtek dongle and it's ok now. Likely solved by a driver update over the past 6 months.🤞¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'll probably stick with Titan if Clevo reviews are bad. I like to have Raid0 plus a backup drive. Probably won't do anything til the new year. Intel is pretty thoroughly humbled. Are we seeing signs of a merger with Amd? Not sure what Qualcomm would do with them, sounds like Compaq eating Dec, only to be gobbled by Dell.

Not sure there's any machine I trust too much on wake from sleep... Crossing my fingers Clevo will be buyable with the new low power stuff. 🥂🤞
-
Looks like I'm getting 2 years added to my sentence, i mean career... 😜🤓 So i'll probably be getting another dtr in the not too distant future. Are you happy with the Amd? Anybody know the state of play for Intel's neverending woes?

Personally, my free time is for Tai Chi. If I work on an antique, it will be a classic sports car, not writing drivers for an old os. Y'all may want to consider loading a classic os in a vm. I still have Xp vms for running ancient software. You probably need VmWare to load a classic os, not sure if Msft vm will allow it. You'll need Msdn (no escape...) to get the old os images. Curiously, they have 3.11 and Xp but no 2000. 😢 🥂

thx. i'll just let windows take care of itself til it makes me intervene to fix something.
-
Haven't looked. "Tiny" sounds like it's worth looking into. I want path of least resistance, latest os is simplest.
-
Sympathetic as i am to these sentiments, they add security when they add bloat. Eventually they fix the stuff they broke and regain speed they lost. I'm tempted to try Tiny11 but the last thing i want to do is play with computers after working on them all day.

So Webroot wasn't to blame for everything, though some weirdness in Visual Studio cleared up with it gone. After removing it, i turned off daily reboots to see if it solved the issue on the Clevo machines. They still eventually slowed to a crawl after a day to 2 weeks. I probably had coincidental issues with Windows bogging down and the firmware update on the mobile cpu machine. I've currently got all of them on oem video drivers with Ge Force Experience uninstalled. The one that does my wake-up alarm playlist still does the daily reboot, the others aren't bad enough to be worse than a minor annoyance. Ain't Windows wonderful?...

Chrome wouldn't run on x170 when I first got it, so I switched to Edge. I like it well enough. Firefox always struck me as a little clunky but i routinely have to use all 3 to fix something that works in one but not another.

Well, something about enabling overclocking and setting back to optimized default appears to have restored its baseline performance. 🤞¯\_(ツ)_/¯
