Interesting, thx. I'm a fan of Xmg since they solved my 128 gig issue in the x170. I may just live with 64. Or live with Msi...
-
yeah i figured i could probably get it configured right offline, for triple the cost...😜
-
Man, workstation gets up to double the cost of the Clevo real quick, with half its guts... and it only allows 2 drives with Raid0. Yeah, options are limited. Xotic throws in a notebook cooler and various extra cooling options as you add features. Nothing's really ideal anymore, but memory also has rose colored glasses... Old Sagers were loud as jet engines.
-
Yeah, not even 10% performance boost from 13980 to 14900. I need 3 drives. I'd like the 18 inch but it's qhd and i like uhd.

X370. Yeah there are no real dtrs anymore. Waiting for Sager to allow 48 gig ram chips or Xpc to allow wifi7. Thinking about replacing the killer card but don't harsh my vibe... I just convinced my inner Scrooge to allow an upgrade ahead of time... I have the machine running out to the tv over display port/hdmi. I suspect that causes interference with ethernet. Tried a dongle but it had issues too. Wifi7 should give wireless performance similar to wired ethernet. 🫰

Wired ethernet, not wifi. Not sure if wifi's better... Keyboard's annoying but otherwise good. light, quiet, fast. relative to behemoth dtr machines...
-
After a year I'm giving up on it. Killer ethernet is too unreliable to live with. I'm also forgiving Xotic as Msi didn't publish proper specs on their Raid setup. Going back to Clevo too as they're apparently the only full keyboard on a dtr-ish notebook. Maybe it's just an excuse to let myself get wifi7...
-
Xmg bios solved that for me. it was fine for a year or so then suddenly objected to having all its slots filled. I gave 32 gig to an older machine and one of its ssds to the server. Thankfully, it was already replaced as my primary workstation. It's now demoted to secondary backup.

Oh, and let us know your M18 experience. I'm probably going to try them when it has Wifi7 and i9-14*.

Wow, more than i thot... but the process of cannibalizing it brot it back from the dead. Some combination of 128gigs ram, raid0, and this machine's inherent flakiness caused the whole thing. RDrive fired me as a customer for their backup utility. A very helpful gesture in the middle of disaster recovery... so i'm reinstalling all its software from scratch and finding a reliable backup utility.

Texas. San Antonio.

oh right, you guys are more gpu oriented... i guess, if it's not a hassle. what's it worth to you? RTX 3080 w/ 16 GB
-
Started with my backup utility invalidating its license, saying it was different hardware. Then the next Windows update disabled half its devices. Did a restore and it blue screened. I'll cannibalize everything i can into other machines. I guess someone might want the cpu. It's an i9 11900k, ran 24/7 for 3 years in Ultimate Performance profile.

Mine just died and i'm debating whether to bother fixing it. It's been a pita its whole life.
-
We are in the market... thx.

If you're used to Clevo's full size keyboard, this one is annoying. It has a key mapper which makes it usable, but it will be annoying til the next upgrade in 2-ish years. Lighter and quieter than Clevo X170KM-G. 20% faster compiling a system, twice as fast loading a database. Sorry, not a gamer, plenty of reviews around for that. Xotic p***d me off by hosing the setup, probably an anomaly but they lost my future business. Ed: Oh yeah, Clevo X170KM-G with i9-11900K is what it's faster than.

mine was fine, til it wasn't... Windows backup showed its flaws, got a 1tb to replace pair of 500s in Raid0 but Windows wouldn't restore over a few megs difference in size. $50 backup utility would have saved me a day's time.
-
Didn't expect the ssd to be the thing that fried itself in this box... update the firmware if you have Samsung. My 980 pro 500s bricked a few hours after throwing Smart errors. 5 years Mtbf, right...

That was weird... system shut itself down last night, first time in months (thx again Xmg). Turned it on and it said there was no boot device. Put in the windows usb stick and told it to boot from that. It went into a boot loop. Put in Efi shell stick and booted to that with no issue. Put back the Windows stick and booted from that, it went into Windows instead. ? Maybe because I'm on Win11 and it's 10. Took out the usb drive and rebooted and it worked fine. ?? No Windows update last night. Event Log said unexpected shutdown at 3am but no activity was logged around that time. ??? Keeping my fingers crossed.

A month without crashing. I'd forgotten what it's like to have a real computer. Thanks Xmg.
-
Stability is the whole underlying Clevo issue with this machine. Xmg appears to have solved that for me,, fingers crossed.
-
You can go into Advanced Scaling on Display Settings to set any value you want. I did 110% for a while, don't recall any major issues but reverted to a preset in hope of better stability.
-
no Prema on this thing. You have the latest bios? fans & vents are clean? using how many memory slots?
-
A week without crashing! woohoo... starting to kind of like this machine.
