  1. All fear what isn't understood, like walking into a room without light that you have never experienced before. The potential variables in play could be outside the range of your influence. You could try to infer it's content from the surrounding viewable areas, but that's hardly a guarantee and could color perspective unfairly.

Often I find that discussion of AI tends to be an introspective into humans as a species, quite fascinating at times and bleak at others. Obviously, since the hands of men and women helped create the next step in AI's evolution.

Human history tends to be riddled in blood and misery, with a bit of hopeful progress sprinkled on top.

With the obvious issues of life imitating art (skynet), I am curious in such a scenario as to opposite. Not as subservient mind you, but as partner to our species in the advent of true AI. Obviously if its presented to us as Michael fassbender(sp?) then it would at least have a sense of humor!

Off topic, as an admin here I must ask to keep discusssions around medicine and health out of bounds. That being said you are welcome to discuss via PM at your discretion.

    Thanks!

  2. @aldarxtplease do not double post, thanks in advance :)

As for the topic at hand, happy to leave it as is, as I haven't seen much discussion on the topic personally without it going into shouting matches. That being said due to the secondary items which are each, all worth discussing at length. let's keep the topic rested in discussion surrounding AI and it's potential influence on society at large.

    Thanks everyone!

LOL, is that your actual motherboard being boxed up for shipping? With the newest, freshest revision I'm expecting some serious results. 🙂

    This is so true.

I am beyond sensitive to keyboard and mouse devices (I've lost count how many I've tried over the years). It extends to graphical settings, dead pixels, display bleed, system noise and more. Others don't even notice it but they can drive me batty.

Any type of subpar fps and the dreaded "chunk" or too much latency and it will be fixed one way or the other. I just jettisoned T-Mobile Internet to go back to Xfinity because of the latency.

Sometimes ignorance is bliss (In my Cypher voice).

Same, before I purchase something that can be objectively measured and judged, like a monitor, I still spend 3-4 months looking at all the different reviews for trends between them, looking at the specifications of every port, what the capabilities are. Then I go look at the negative reviews from sites like Amazon (after filtering out the aggregate, irrelevant SKU's/products) to see what kind of defects, shortcomings, QA/QC and if they would be acceptable or something I could potentially fix if needed. I dont like invoking warranties as my experience has mostly been negative, so I want to know if I can fix potential issues myself. It was one reason I didnt purchase a particular product (Aorus 43" Monitor) to replace my current 40" HDTV.

It reminded me when my family moved to Texas my sister was trying to finance a TV. I was going up and down all the isles, reading reviews on my phone (HTC Evo 3d iirc), looking at ports, reliability of the brand (Toshiba, in this instance.) etc etc. My sister walks up, oh that one is pretty! annnnnnd it was done lol.

Sometimes i wish I could be more spontaneous, but alas, havent conquered that element of my life quite yet.

Ended up picking up an MSI X670E Carbon open box for ~$320 from Amazon for some X3D playtime. Still have my M-die heatsinked sticks ready to go. Just need to lock down on a 7950X3D or 7800X3D.

I'll end up setting up and testing it in my "workbench" case (Ye ole Corsair 540) as always. My main desktop has a stack of mods and adjustments it needs in the corner anyhow so I'll knock out like 5 birds with one stone.

I'm real curious to see how it performs against my tuned 12900k for WoW and then FO76. I'm still bound by my 12900k even at 4k especially in Raids and Valdrakken where fps can dip down into the 70s while my 12900k is bouncing off of 100% and my 4090 is sitting around 70-80%. I expected this as more player data hits and taxes the CPU which was already bottlenecking my GPU in open areas with nobody around.

Hardware Numb3rs has been inactive for quite some time and that was my usual go to spot for the type of tweaking and WoW tests I liked.

Yet again a major itch I need to scratch personally.... 🙂

On one hand I lamented about this years ago. On the other hand, using recommended settings, my daughter's PC handled 4k Hogwarts just fine and looked pretty decent on her Asus 3070 KO. This was with 32GB DDR4 and a 12400 on an Asus B660. I'm much more sensitive to graphical settings though.

Literally how our convo went when she was playing:

Me: "Don't you see there? See where the textures aren't as clear?"

    Her: "No"

Me: "Well what about the grass there? Don't you see how the blades aren't as clear?"

    Her: "No!"

Me: "Look at the facial textures. Don't you see how they could be a little clearer?"

Her: "No dad! It looks good to me"

    Me: "Well what about....."

Her: "For the love of God dad, LET ME PLAY!"

    🤣

Honestly this is the only realm where I honestly believe being ignorant to what it's like on the top (in terms of computing and peripherals) is a benefit, significantly easier on your wallet too.

It feels almost like a crime for me to point those things out because once I see it, it irks me until it's resolved/rectified. Mushy switch? Replace it, can't replace? Replace the keyboard. Keyboard is the wrong revision and feels different? Replace with another brand/model. Don't like the replacement? Search for another. Repeat until satisfied.

All the while friends or family are happily playing on a rubber dome keyboard from Dell that costed 40 cents to make back in 95'

In principle I want everyone to have the best experience possible, in practice? Hmm lol

    On the subject...

    https://www.npr.org/2023/04/12/1169269161/npr-leaves-twitter-government-funded-media-label

NPR decided to quit Twitter because of its concerns regarding the platform's unpredictability.  (Individual NPR journalists will make their own decisions about how to engage with the platform with accounts tied to them personally, but the various "global"/"official" NPR accounts not tied to an individual will be going dark.)  The article linked here does mention Musk's comments in the BBC interview, including a comment that the "publicly funded" label will be applied to NPR as well, but apparently the "quit Twitter" decision had already been made before the label change went into effect (it still has not, as of now) and the concerns over how Twitter is being run are still there regardless.

There is also more value in opposing Elon's Twitter than going through the hassle of working with him. So its a win-win for NPR objectively speaking.

Yeah, that is a no. You can use one of those silver trace circuit repair pens, or use a conductive paint (same concept as the pen). Or do it right and solder another resistor on top, or replace the resistor with one of different resistance. (Soldering is definitely the best way).

If you were only going to be testing briefly, you could probably tape a fine strip of aluminum foil down to bridge the resistor, but I would not trust that for more that some brief testing. If the tape came unstuck over time you could end up short circuiting something.

That would be my path forward, I have some K2200's that can give up the ghost for science 🙂

Nvidia is stingy or/and greedy, LOOL

But 4070 won't be the worst card out from Nvidias factory. Nvidia still think 8GB vram is more than enough until you are forced to buy a new card end of next year. But huhh... You don't need rush out to buy the latest and greatest games that will come next summer/fall. Just play your old games😎And you save money on top👍 Can't beat being stingy, HaHa

AMD Goads Nvidia Over Stingy VRAM Ahead of RTX 4070 Launch Games are using more VRAM, and AMD suggests Nvidia isn't offering enough.

The real joke is still not released. 4060@8GB vram. I wonder what hardware Unboxed will say to a brand new 8GB low/ mid mainstream Nvidia graphics card in 2023.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 release date speculation

I dont have a fixed view of VRAM.

If you are entering PC Gaming for the first time then 8GB would suit most people "fine" if your just trying to dip your feet. Especially when CFX and SLI were in play, which of course arent in play anymore.

That all being said IIRC I saw 17GB of VRAM use in Sons of the Forest. One of our group was whining about the resource heavy nature of the game (which was mostly a fault of unity engine, but thats another rabbit hole) with his RTX 3060 only getting 30-40 FPS in a heavy forest area while snowing. A part of me was thinking it could also be VRAM, but its hard to tell since the game is Early Access / Beta. Most of the time I dont excuse games taking money in e beta state but the developer has been fairly consistent with weekly or bi-weekly updates with the prior title.

I have a few different cards, most of them are 8-10GB. Obviously I use my 3090 since its the heaviest hitter. I want to try to shunt mod it but will likely experiment with my K2200's first lol

I guess feeding the bees vinegar was a bad idea and ultimately stupid. alot of rookie members have left due to negativity and personal attacks, but I guess it happens not a big deal. I was concerned when a member spent 4000 just to have a convo and he was immediately told why did you post a thread one exists. ignorant. but yeah im not going anywhere just yet but guru 3d seems more developed and a good alternative for when nbt dies.

at 60hz it has bad input lag not at 144hz. I read the review it would not have scored 8.5 if it was a bad monitor

Address essentially 0 points with a hand wave, nice.

measurable objective analysis, what that means to you as the consumer is the opinion.

I have the backing of basically everyone saying its a great monitor, I find it funny to chime in to counter oppose. but at the end of the end we are all entitled to our opinions, I'm going to stick with my advice and if @kojackhas doubts he can read the expert reviews.

You should read your first source.

    Quote

The Gigabyte AORUS FV43U has two HDMI 2.1 ports, but like the other Gigabyte monitors with HDMI 2.1, they're limited to 24 Gbps. There's also one USB-C port; it supports a few advanced USB-C features, including DisplayPort Alt Mode, 15W fast charging for supported devices. The USB-C port allows you to use the monitor as a KVM switch (keyboard, video, and mouse).

Due to the lower maximum bandwidth of the HDMI 2.1 ports, the AORUS FV43U requires Display Stream Compression (DSC) 1.2a for anything that requires higher bandwidth, introducing some limits on the supported resolutions depending on the source device. You can read more about the supported resolutions here. This article is from our Gigabyte M28U review, but it's also valid for this monitor.

Although it's not currently part of our testing, we also checked for Sony PS5 and Xbox Series S|X compatibility with the FV43U, given that this monitor is advertised for console gaming. It's compatible with most features of all three consoles, but it doesn't support Dolby Vision. Because it requires DSC 1.2a and is limited to 24Gbps over HDMI 2.1, the PS5 only works at 4k @ 120Hz with 4:2:0 chroma subsampling since the PS5 doesn't currently support DSC.

It appears I misspoke on the 4k144hz when that was limited to the PS5, regardless it uses compression since its not actually a full bandwidth HDMI 2.1 port, but half bandwidth. There is also a lackluster amount of dimming zones, which makes contrasting quite difficult for this panel. (8 zones). Instead of 4:2:2 like incorrectly recalled it was 4:2:0.

It also uses a BGR layout instead of RGB. If the only thing you expect to do is gaming its likely to be trivial at best. Outside of gaming I've read issues about text on screen. I expect this is largely subjective, but its not something Im willing to risk 700 USD on to experience. At the time i was considering this monitor I think it was on sale on Amazon for 600. It was also around that time that there were many complaints of bad QC in a lot of the Amazon reviews. Many of which had to replace their units I believe up to 3 times or just sent back altogether.

Its not a terrible monitor, but for the price you are getting a mixed bag. At the time of release was there anything else better? Not for the price, but that doesnt mean its a premium product either.

First video I watched on this product, which only left me wanting to get second and third opinions because I wanted this monitor, but didnt want to have to deal with buyers remorse. The take away from this video was lackluster HDR, iirc poor lighting zones.

This was the second video I watched. This one covers the half bandwidth ports more than the first.

Lastly, still not following the only rule you seem to ignore. Double Posting.

I would save your money and buy a sony x85j for 500. it does 4k 120 and has good color coverage, great blacks and great response, nvm rtings review of it they show the stats and specs being above the x90k and rate the x90k higher, still got a good rating but makes no sense. another thing is you can modulate the kind of screen you want at any given time. for example im using a hp laptop with integrated grapics and need 4k sharp clear and easy to read, but when im gaming and dont have the power i set the black bars up at 1440p. I know your not much of a gamer these days but my standards apply to creative work also as I produce music and care about my computers and screens as artwork also plays a role in the album

if you absolutely need a monitor.

I was looking at a gigabyte monitor with 4k/144hz and its 43in for around 650 cad

The Aorus doesnt have full color range and doesnt actually have 4K144hz. Uses compression techniques and 4:2:2 to get around an old standard.

More importantly, has the worst QC of any product in the market.

Not so sure about that. Look at this mess. Reviewers tried to oc the 8 core gaming chips with BCLK clock. 90°C despite a 480 mm radiator and max allowed stock voltage. Imagine this kids toy with 300W load and unlocked voltage to male it possible. This X3D chips would boil to steam within a couple of seconds and you would smell a nasty electronic smell if not the chips have died directly when you dialed in the needed voltage. We talk about 120-150W power and even a 480mm ain't enough to cool it. This is not the tech I want.

    OC-BIOS-amd-ryzen-7800X3D-overclocking-4.jpg

I'd imagine direct die would drop it significantly just like it did for the non 3d chips. Issue would be that the solution is typically not sought out by the "casual gamer" types and also kind of defeats the appeal of a turn key chip if you're considerating that hypothetical.

Unless daily driver is meant to primarily drive gaming, a CPU with more cores would be of benefit, says Steve:

Looks like the oversized cache works well just in gaming, and seemingly little else, where the precious die space is much better spent on extra cores.

That's just how I feel about the latest laptop offerings lol

Right, but would I be able to significantly UV an AMD chip?

Primarily gaming, browsing and the odd document or two. Larger cache has always only been a benefit to only gaming. This was shown in Broadwell and crystalwell but even then it's not whole sale across the board. It does tend to improve minimums and reduce stutter that may otherwise be present.

It would be replacing a 2700x on an itx x570 aorus wifi. I just don't have the time lately to be swapping parts on my primary pc and still have it be useful in a daily driver. 5800x3d will take care of me for quite some time, while letting me tinker without need ING to rebuild due to a time constraint. If I had to buy a motherboard as well then there wouldn't be any interest at all. Just record my timings on the ram and swap it out when I'm not tinkering :)

And if you go with 4K. You trade in 4-5 more FPS for worse or lacklustre content creation performance. Not so sure this is a great deal. And this with an 4090 that most gamers don't have. Most of them will get an 4060/4070 cards forwards.

If there is something I would pickup it would be the 5800X3D for my daily driver type system and the 10850k would remain the bench system. 22. I think that's been part of the issue with this Gen's lineup. The top is so far and away that it's the only appealing product up until you look at the price. Then when looking down towards what your willing to spend you don't see much improvement like you do at the top.

Same for amd iirc, obviously there hadn't been as much time for a product stack to mature but right now everything just seems a bit awkward. Instead of a product stack covering differing price points you are almost looking for reasons to pull the trigger.

That being said the 4090 is a nice product, pretty much matches are beats a 3090 from what I hear. I guess the next big issue (which is more personal of course) is a lack of enticing reasons to spend the money (not many games taking advantage of the horsepower in a meaningful way)
