Precision 7540 & Precision 7740 owner's thread
Kitje replied to SvenC's topic in Pro Max & Precision Mobile Workstation
So I had to purchase a new keyboard, as a just in case because after a while I found some keys becoming rattley... I haven't received it yet, but I thought one of the keys needed to be reinserted so I gently pried it off. I clipped it on but sometimes it feels like it's gonna come back off any moment again and again. The scissor and the key itself look physically OK, though so I don't know what has happened. -
Maybe even without extensive mods to the point of hijacking DP, going for an eDP motherboard with a UHD cable could work too.

This is such an on-going wild ride...

I've heard of Ubuntu Budgie. There's also Elementary OS that I have ran on an i5 3320M that was on my old ThinkPad X230 and it ran fine.

I've been looking at other sites that let you share them which I have joined, and been posting new images. I get some nice feedback and sometimes 100 views within the first 5 minutes. And they're ones that are in focus and not overblown or incredibly processed, many out of camera. I'll keep trying, but the licensing stuff I worry may happen again. Hopefully there's definite demand of something Getty may approve.

Feels like I've run into a brick wall with photography. I'm kind of enjoying it but at the same time not so much. Trying to get a passive income at least to feel motivated but it's been really messy with the site I submitted to for licensing. Without notification I discovered both pictures disappeared as if I removed from licensing when I haven't done that myself. Let's hope closure is given to me. So, that's been bothering me really hard because I've been at it for a few years and yet made no progress. I'm not a photoshoot person. But I've done a lot of nature photos. I'm slowly becoming at loss what to do next as I'm not very fit for different work. Passive income would help me keep motivated, which I thought it would be that simple.

I need to replace the 4k display panel in 7710
Kitje replied to ygohome's topic in Pro Max & Precision Mobile Workstation
It's extremely good. And Notebookcheck reviewed a Schenker with the panel. It shouldn't have PWM so it should be really easy on the eyes.- 11 replies

I had a ROG G752VT. In 2016 the GPU glitched out several times, then the poor keyboard quality started to slip through during that year and despite efforts trying a new key cap they still broke very very easily. I don't know if it was that model or the one I got in particular was flawed, but so was the replacement keyboard I had to buy. Since Asus believed it was user induced damage they just upright said that and wasn't applicable for warranty. Keyboards shouldn't be that fragile for something used for gaming. Haven't opted for Asus since.

Difficult to compare and confirm, since the part picture I looked at doesn't have the kind of brackets I had to deal with. I think it's got the screws in the same places though. -

I think these brackets add them, they also have those alignment pins. I can't really tell but I'm not sure if it's a revision thing. Fans for example being Delta then Sunon and then the mounting of the LCDs being different. Maybe whatever they have had in stock would depend on what you got in the laptop. -

Question: Do these brackets allow panels that don't need to be adhered on be mounted to the lid through screws? https://www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=item&id=29538 Since from the looks of it, the top and bottom provide screw holes so... Thinking about it now had I got a different lid with these installed I wouldn't have had to borderline give myself a stroke trying to install a new LCD. 🤨 -
I have, and unfortunately it didn't play nice with the LCD, kept cutting out and it looked incredibly bad. Only listed 120Hz and nothing else there. I'll probably investigate what's wrong with the panel EDID.

Mine is the N156HHE-GA1, but difficult to find now as the seller Screenarama on Amazon doesn't have it anymore. I think mine might have a fault or 2 now as I noticed it over time. There's discoloration on the top corners and a pressure mark. I kind of don't like the colour reproduction, somehow artificial than colour accurate despite reviews of laptops saying the panel is very good for photo and video work. Best place to search is Panelook which was how I discovered my 120hz, then looked at sellers around Amazon. There are filters to search, because some panels don't use 30pin and opt for 40pin for the extra bandwidth. Filtering it out will give you better results of choice. Word of caution, though. It might just be my panel but since it'll be a higher rate it'll mean more work for the GPU and iGPU. Lower battery life and higher temperatures. Intel Control panel will not let you enter a custom resolution to lower the rate, it'll give you an error saying exceeded maximum bandwidth (which is a farce) despite it being lowered in theory.

You'll find it here: https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/servicetag/0-YjJNVC9NWGR1L3oxSUwxUk5JMlRldz090/overview Upon looking up your tag it's saying EDP1.3. If you're still unsure you can check what panel you have installed using HWINFO, then looking up the panel model.

Ever since replacing Sunon with those Deltas, seems that most likely preference are Deltas over Sunon for 7530/7540. Shame really because these systems with Deltas aren't common. I'm sure they're not common. I've repasted too, and since I do not really care for a lot of performance I'm either on Balanced for better battery and on Quiet for Dell Power Manager. I've left turbo on so if performance IS needed then the steps going beyond turning that off now means Deltas are a must. -

Well, it's properly put together again and actually there is a difference already. More than significant now. However, since replacing the paste I still need to see if there arent any thermal issues when I'm in Windows. I'll do it tomorrow running Unreal or running Vegas like normal with Throttlestop. I'm relieved, for now. -

If I had a tool to measure everything on mine I would, but I did it through visual. If in doubt of what you really need, a set of them in different thicknesses will suffice. Mine are from Adwitz and they're alright. Cheap but alright. Unrelated, but I ran my 7540 in the BIOS and waited for the fans to kick in, and I don't actually hear the whistle as much. I think they're gonna be keepers. It's still there but not as loud, so that's something positive. -

Not sure which maker to recommend, but if you're buying pads then get a set of different thicknesses. I compare them to the set I have and cut accordingly when the thicknesses match. -

Back currently sore from getting to these components. They really do not want end users replacing these fans... And I did discover this; the impellers on Deltas are removable when Sunon ones aren't. -

Well, the fans I got are indeed Delta like in the photo. Tomorrow is installing them and hoping they're not loud as the former. At least they're here now, albeit doesn't have the foam stuff on it that I'm not sure what for. -

Strange, does it produce a high pitched whistle? And I'll make note of the thermal paste for future reference. -

Just curious, do you know what fan manufacturer your 7540 has? -

If in doubt I wouldn't update. I don't know if you're hoping to install GPUs from a 7550/60 but from the looks of the GPUs side by side I don't think it'll properly fit... -
Replacement Delta brand fans for my Precision 7540 and hoping they're not screaming loud like its current Sunons.
