I use eneris for the inspection side of things. it's web based. Xactimate and some other proprietary software for air sampling and surface sampling is windows only. No linux setup works. No mobile apps. there are apps but they ar limited in what I can do so I need windows. As I stated elsewhere previously. The world runs on windows.

Couldn't do with with the iPad. I am now on Linux Zorin OS on our laptops and LOVIN' IT. We are going to buy two older surface tablets with keyboards and pen and install Zorin on those too for our tablet'y duties stuff. I think it's a great OS.

Oh, here's the desktop on my main laptop now.

I have all systems moved to Zorin OS besides my workstation and my son's Gaming laptop. I am not sure if I am going to move him or not. Where he has autism, I think I am going to keep him where he is and just ditch all MS services for our own home hosted ones. I have the server mostly ready to go to move our stuff to it. Just need to get it to book from the PCI-E card and we will be off to the races. Our three laptops are MUCH improved on Zorin. So fast and efficient. Just have to get the wife used to using it. Once she uses it for a day or so I know she's going to be like why didn't I use this sooner. ha ha! The other thing this has done is saved us alot of money as a few of our systems were slugs on WIn11. Now it's working like a new laptop on Zorin. We can turn any one of our systems on now and work away on them without issue.

I have decided to use my iPad as my only "computer" for a week starting today. I am going to goto my desk and setup my dock to plug into. See how it goes. If I make it a week without any issues, I will push to a month. The things I need this to do is photo, video and graphics editing, podcast creation with multiple inputs, Home inspection software duties and other professional work like Office 365 stuff. If I can do all of that without issue. I will be good to go. Oh, and I need to be able to create websites via wix.

Yep. But you spent a few hundred on repairs, that's not even a car payment for a month. We have two older vehicles now that we are keeping on the road until they die, more than likely from rust. We just purchased a 2017 mazda 5 (jdm goodness coming this spring), and our 2016 F150 FX4 super crew. 205,000km on it and drives and looks new. that has 300,000 left in it for sure before the chassis starts to go I figure. A few hundred a year in maintenance is better than the 1000 dollar a month for a truck payement here. Keep old iron working.

I will probably just deal with the fan noise instead of installing something that might bork his system. Thanks for the information however. If it were my system, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Gaming is not on my radar so I don't care about that. If I did the only option is the Rog strix z from Asus.

Carefull not to pick it up by one corner. It is the same generation insprion I bought for my Mother and she picked it up and it cracked by the Lan port. Just from the weight of the system. It's dead now as the motherboard had a failure. It was a decent basic machine before the mobo died. I have 3 dells here now all with different issues. I am buying two more because for the money I cannot find a better set of specs. I am waiting to hear back from Skylum to see if Luminar Neo uses the NPU on intel based systems as it does on Qualcomm. If it does not I will be getting 2 surfaces and shell out the extra money.

Got 18 on my wife's laptop. Way faster than windows 11, way better than windows 11 and free of microsoft's Ai SLOP. Can't wait to get the battery for my crate and move it to Zorin OS. Then need to figure out how to get all my info off onedrive and onto my storage drive.

As I mentioned earlier I consider this little dell 2 in 1 I am currently using a tablet. It's touchscreen etc, I just can't remove the keyboard. I am trying to zorin 17.3 to update to 18 core. There is an issue and I can't do it. Next time I try and get the same error I am going to report it to the team and see if they can fix it. It gives some important features for me. MS 365 and OneDrive integration. I need access to all of that until I get my server finished.

Since all of my Dells pooped the bed, we are moving to lenovo for our prebuilt machines. Rock solid from what I understand. I am going with a P1 Gen4 16 inch. The wife will probably get a 920 for her desktop machine and a T490 or something for her laptop. I am removing the dell parts from my desktop as well. Moving to a new full sized atx mobo, case and PSU to give me the option to run a second 2070 super and a video capture card (elgato pro). Or since it will be linux, everything works faster so maybe I will put the second video card on the side burner and put a multi ssd card in there and have blazing fast storage. there are so many ways I can go. ha ha. So right now I have three dead Dell systems in our household for major component failures. My 5406 died yesterday morning. It was having issues for months and I thought it was software because it was only at start up. Once running it was fine. It was the ram sockets and they died. Just before the failure my battery swelled so much it caused the touchpad to stop working. One system down. Pulled the good parts and tossed it. Next up my mother called me and said her dell inspiron 15 shat the bed. I go have a look, sure enough no post, no nothing but system was still hot when plugged in. Mobo/graphics failure. Pulled the good parts and tossed it. Third was my wife's dell. Hardly used but have to mess with it constantly to try to get it to boot. Again, once booted (30 min or more screwing with it) it's fine and it works, but I am sure its going to stop functioning all together sooner than later. It will boot one in every 15 to 20 tries, other than that it just sit there no lights no screen flashing NOTHING. It like it has zero power. Then after messing with it for a while it will fire up and work. Never again will Dell get a dollar of our money as a family. I have my mom moved to two new Acer laptops I purchased for her and we are moving to Lenovos. Solid thinkpad laptops that are well built. Unlike the crap from Dell.

Not the case apparently. So, I had no idea that there was an event logger in my bios. I don't know how I missed it. It reports a memory slot failure every time I boot and have issues. Therefore, the MOBO is done. A new one from dell is 949 cdn. NO thanks. I can get a year newer Lenovo P1 gen 4 with great specs for only 850 shipped to my door. I am back on my little dell iPad replacement now running Zorin. I will be loading Zorin 18 pro on whatever system I get because I am just sick of the bloat with windows. I get all the functionality of my windows systems, even running the same software now, and it's twice as fast on the same hardware. The iPad will be moved to my son, and I will get a new Android tablet for on the jobsite work like floorplan/esitmating/inspection software I use. We will see how it goes.

We traded our 2015 Jeep Patriot that was costing us 1000 bucks every time it went to get an oil change because of other stuff breaking, on a 2017 Mazda 5. We love these cars and owned a 2007 model we purchased brand new. The 5 is the perfect rig for travel with lots of room but still handles like a little sports car. Some cool mods coming for it soon..

The next one is the orange colorway turns pink after some exposure to the sun. That's awesome, it's like a hypercolor phone. Those who don't know, look up hypercolor shirts.

Funny how peoples experiences differ. My Pixel 8 Pro is the best most reliable phone I have owned. I have owned mobiles all the way back to this guy.

Another update on my dell systems. AFAIK, it's fastboot causing the issues. I was on another forum with people who have up to date dells, and have been having these same issues. They turned off fastboot and it stopped. Crossing my fingers.

I have had my fair share of giant laptops. acer 7720, HP DV9, etc. Moved to small and light with my acer timeline SE. then with the dell systems.

If I went ProArt it would be the 13 inch model. The 16 is too big and heavy for travel. Great system. I have got some new advice on my dells. I have run the hardware test and everything tested fine. But then someone suggested turing off fast boot in the bios. I will do that on all the systems and see if it helps things. I have my main laptop back again for right now. The iPad is right beside me incase this stops working again though. ha ha.

Back on the iPad again. The notebook issues came back. I am done with it and dell, since, like I said, 3 dell laptops we own have the same issues. I will use the iPad as my laptop/notebook and use my desktop when I need heavy lifting….for now. I don’t know what I am going to buy as of right now, nothing on the windows side of devices are catching my eye besides the surface laptop or the asus proart. Get ready iPad. You will be worked hard. Now to make sure I have the software I need on this thing.

Funny, I moved from my iPhone to my Pixel for the exact same reason. Missed notifications and calls on the iphone constantly. Dropping service, calls etc for multiple mins at a time until a restart. Apple said it's fine. Meanwhile my Motorola g 5g worked fine in the same spots I was dropping service in the iPhone.

My dell laptop fired up and had a bunch of updates from intel for it. Knock on wood, I have not had an issue since. I am crossing my fingers that the updates fixed the display issues I was having. I hope, as I don't want to go buy a new system right now. I would rather use what I have and be happy. I plan on getting a portable egpu to boost video encoding speeds, but other than that I am fine with my dell and iPad 10th gen if this works out. My iPad will be my inspection and management device. My workstation will be my main editing system and my current dell notebook with egpu plugged in will be my on location editing system. I hope it stays reliable now.
