  1. LOL, I know what you play at but experiencing GPU limitations is the common realm of 4k gaming. You just happen to catch up a bit with the 13900k. I saw the same thing even with a 12900k at pure stock at 1440p in certain areas / games so it makes sense. In reality all I hear is the beginning argument to yourself on upgrading from your 3090. 🙂 We heard it before with your 2080TI's that went from "These scream! So close in performance! No Need to Upgrade!" to eventually you jumping on a 3090.... .....I"m sure we'll see the same song and dance here too and you'll end up with a 4090 or 4090ti. 😅
  2. Welcome to the world of 4k gaming woes where your GPU is pretty much pegged at 99% everywhere while you CPU floats around 20-50%.....please have a seat right over here. 🙂
  3. AIBs can only jack up the price so far till gamers opt for cheaper models. Looking at the 4090, baseline is $1600 and the realistic top end model is $2000 for the Strix. Expect $1000-$1300 tops for 7900XTX models realistically. Both sides have a few outliers as always or specialized Hybrid/blocked models. Depending on headroom OC, AIB models may have a better go at it than with Nvidia this time around. If there's a lot of room to play with better cooling and power considering the less than expected boost clocks on the 7900, an AIB model might be the way to go for many. In these economic times (as you allude to), a $1000 card $600 less giving you the bulk (+/- per game) of a 4090 performance is going to be an easy decision for many. Still would love EVGA to come out of nowhere with a KPE 7900XTX. ðŸĪŠ Expect the 4090ti sooner than later. Nvidia is REALLY going to have to upsell RT and DLSS3 as everything else is skewing in AMDs favor. If you must absolutely have the best RT performance, Nvidia is the logical choice. If you must absolutely have NVENC, Nvidia is the logical choice As long as AMD doesn't crap out on the drivers, they are really going to gain ground. Dogecoin is gaining a bit of traction.....hopefully nothing Crypto-anything grabs ahold like last time. This fall has been an absolute techgasm with AMD, Nvidia and Intel.....I'm lovin it.
  4. I was expecting a touch more performance but I've spent the last few days going over chiplet limitations and new architecture woes thereof but it is still a banger with 1.7x the performance which is on par with the 4090 and they will be trading blows once again.....but the real "whoa?" the price.... $999? I was not expecting that price point. It will compete with 4090, beat the 4080 16GB and now we know another reason why Nvidia basically cancelled the $899 4080 12gb giggle fest. For $999 I'll be picking one up definitely to play with and skipping the 4090 completely.
  5. It kinda looks like the De8auer model but even he knew there would be clones of their model showing up sooner than later....hmmmm.
  6. How's the coil whine on the Suprim X Liquid? Zotrash? 😁 I know the Air cooled Suprim model had some of the worst I've heard. And of course memory lottery is in full effect....Try another one. 🙂
  7. LOL, especially when the Crocs match the gear! True story, I was shopping with the wife and we were looking at shoes for her and I saw some Crocs and immediately thought of you @Papusan 😄 Grats on the new 13900k!
  8. Congrats @Mr. Fox! You know you've hit the magic when you've been together longer than not in your life and you've passed that point with aplomb. Here's to many more brother!
  9. Definitely keep it. CENS is a straight up guy, but for all you'll get out of it and where you'll take it I'd definitely keep it. Even a 13900KS isn't promised to be better just better than the average garbage 13900k. Plenty of 12900ks chips were garbage and barely met the criteria while running nice and toasty. You bought a new 13900k, got a killer sample....enjoy it for the next few years!
  10. Agreed, personally $1600 would be a good starting point and even 2k isn't out of the question unless somehow a Kingpin Z790 is in the mix. 🙂 As for AMD, that sounds about right with the 2x knowing MPT and even AMD tools coupled with AIBs and 3x 8-pins is going to allow them to push hard like before along with better coolers and blocked cards. If AMD has found ~375w limit works with 12188 SPs and 2700 boost clocks, imagine AIB models..... yum. 🙂
  11. I think the real question is does a thread/area of that nature have a valid place here on these forums that are structured around technology? Is it worth the potential moderator headaches and what is the upside? If you're talking about a simple, "Off topic anything goes except religion and politics" area, then I'm all for that. If you're including religion and politics that is where we diverge. 🙂 It isn't even an issue of them being out of stock / current pricing because over the next month everything will normalize as demand is filled and they will be available everywhere. The real question is about winning the lottery and having a very good bin to enjoy, delid, maximize even more and see where you can push your "Mo-Chillah" setup with it which is something you truly enjoy.....or at least I've seen with your last few CPUs even back to the 8086k. Money has its limits. What price is worth it to spin the wheel again knowing the odds of landing a similar chip or slim to none? If you can calculate your sell price that outweighs your desire to work with good silicon....that is your starting point. "For an extra 1k in my pocket AND a 13900k to replace it?" Because that that would be a ~1.6k selling point.
  12. Many forums employ an, "Anything goes / off topic" area and they are a blessing and a curse. I say this as someone who has moderated forums before numerous times over the decades. Blessing is you can redirect all off topic / hot topics to that area and let everyone know this is where it belongs and what comes in here stays in here. Non-standard discussions can happen, users can vent and well civilized members know how to leave it at the door and be open minded of everyone and everything while they argue their viewpoints and carry on. The curse is rarely do feelings or emotions stay constrained in that thread and tend to spill out into other areas with chips on shoulders everywhere as forum members will carry over their opinions of other members into their posts and it eventually shows. Even worse, you will attract the dregs (on all sides) who will simply join just to pour fuel on the fire. I remember seeing new members sign up on previous sites/forums/BBSes/Usenet JUST to post in the off topic areas and stir the pot. Politics and religion are really persona non grata in most forums because you end up with a festering wound that never can truly heal once it bursts. Personally, whenever politics or religion enter the fray, I tend to quickly scroll by and keep it moving. If I want my fair share of religion and politics I'll check my Facebook for that (In all seriousness I don't engage there either). I remember on NBR there were quite a few flare ups over the years once Politics / religion somehow worked their way into tech threads and mods had to clean up quite a bit.
  13. Nice! Good to know it isn't the memory itself and the motherboard in G2. How does it work in G1? I definitely like the overall colors and vertical mount really dials it in. Quite honestly I'd keep it even for $1k. Top tier new gen CPUs that are truly golden can command 1.5-2k. Or another way to look at it: is it worth selling for what will amount to ~$300 profit when everything is said and done? How much did you pay? Subtract fees, S&H and you don't have much left over. What you DO have is a top tier chip that is crushing everything in its site and is a top 10% silicon at the very worst. You will have a killer bin you will enjoy for at least a few years and you haven't even delidded it yet. Remember all the joy you experienced as you continued to extract every bit of performance out of your 11900k over the last few years. I wouldn't let it go for less than 1.5k if you are about the $$$.
  14. EVGA is ALWAYS late with their motherboards. It's the longest, saddest running joke for EVGA fans. 😞 Motherboards and K|NGP|N cards always arrive way later than the competition every cycle....
  15. MSI makes solid boards. I was highly impressed with my MSI Z490 and Z590 (which is now running in my son in law's system). EVGA, Asus and MSI are basically my go to board vendors now. EVGA has the Z790 Dark and classified coming up: https://www.evga.com/articles/01590/Introducing-the-EVGA-Z790/ They are still offering all their products, selling out of the rest of their 3000 series and just not making 4000 series cards. Nothing else has changed (unless I missed something?). They are also focusing on Power Supplies too so expect a new line of PSUs soon (or at least that is what they intimated to Steve @ GN).
  16. I saw the same issues across two Gigabyte Z590 boards. More Vcore required to achieve the same results as my Asus Prime and Hero and MSI Z590 boards. Gigabyte was the worst of the bunch by far. I had similar issues with a Z490 Gigabyte board too. I won't be using them again.
  17. Absolutely true. Rasterization is going to be a monster but everything else will most likely lack the fit and finish of Nvidia's products as always down to AI and professional software. Beat Nvidia flat out in raw performance but as soon as you want RT enabled things will get shaky real fast. I would laud Nvidia's drivers but it took them almost 8 months to fix their own drivers they broke themselves for WoW and we suffered with flickering textures everywhere because of it. I'm still hoping they force Nvidia to adjust pricing and release the 4090ti ASAP. Same AMD CPU hitching in WoW means this generation is DOA for me.
  18. AMD is brewing up a monster....I'm tellin' ya here and now.... 5700xt to 6950xt = 2.36x uplift (Timespy) 6950xt to 7900xtx = 2.0x+ uplift Card SP BC MBW Bus ------------------------------------------ 5700xt 2560 1905 14 Gbps 256-bit 6950xt 5120 2324 18 Gbps 256-bit 7900xtx 12188 2700 20 Gbps 384-bit -------------------------------------------
  19. I have always loved @Papusan's post. They're one of my favorites not just because their informational but funny too. When NBR went down, one of my thoughts was, "How am I going to enjoy Papu's posts now?" 😁 @Etern4l lol! Well played. 🙂
  20. Honeymoon trumps hardware every time. 🙂 Have a fantastic vacation and congrats on the nuptials brother!
  21. Bad coil whine, especially when it changes pitch/frequency depending on on-screen action literally makes me nauseous. I wish I could just push through it but I can't. I could even hear my FE 3090 through headphones. That Suprim was definitely talking! 😝 And exactly, pushing it to see the highs but for me the magic was capping it at 140 and 60 to simulate my two displays and just seeing the power consumption and heat drop massively as that would be exactly how I would use it. Seeing WoW locked in at 60fps everywhere with rock solid fps 4k for the first time ever was a beautiful thing to see. 🙂 Even the air cooled Suprim is a gorgeous piece of hardware and the fan noise level wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be under full load. If I could find a low/no coil whine one of those, that would definitely be a contender along with the Liquid. I know the Dragonflight areas in the Xpac have been heavily optimized versus SL so it should run even better. It drops Nov 28th so we'll see how the 3090ti does out there at 5120x1440 144hz and 3840x2160 60hz.
  22. Took my game drive over to my buddy's house earlier today (the one I sold my 12900ks) as he picked up a Suprim 4090 air cooled model a few days ago from MC. He's still on the 12900ks and has no desire to upgrade to 13th. He went there to get a new M.2 for more storage and saw they had a few in stock and just said, "Ehhhh....why not?" 😉 My monitor tops out at 144hz while his is 4k 240hz (Xeneon). WoW FPS gain I get ~140-150sh in the good spots in SL uncapped (I usually keep display capped at 140fps in NVCP) but outdoor raid bosses in SL can sink my 3090ti to the low 50s / high 40s. 4090? Same spots hitting 210+. Those outdoor bosses can still sink a 4090 to 65-80fps but nowhere does it sink below 60fps anywhere everything ultra, RT to max. While the Nvidia readout said 65fps-80fps in a full encounter, it still felt so silky smooth versus how it can get a bit chunky with the 3090ti. Ardenweald the zone GPU slayer? 3090ti = ~75fps avg, 4090 = 120fps. What I confirmed was none of those Ryzen dips which are just brutal. I hope they work that out sooner than later but seeing as they are still there from the 5000 series ugh.... Fallout76 went from 80-150 up to 110-240. Locking the fps to ~58fps in NVCP to simulate my 60hz G-sync 4k 32" BenQ and watching the pull just plummet to 140w-250w just about everywhere was nice to see. Even Ardenweald and outdoor raid bosses it topped out around 300w whereas my KPE 3090ti will hit 425-450w no problem. Coil whine was pretty monstrous......luck of the draw I suppose. If I had picked that card up it would have been going right back. Yeah, that 4090 is a beast. It isn't so much the highs for me as the min/lows it really pumps up quite nicely. If I switched back to my G-sync compatible BenQ 4k 32" 60hz display I would basically get that full 60fps locked in everywhere and most times the 4090 would be pulling so low too.
  23. I messaged them personally to tell them to not include it.... 😉
  24. Heh.... Remember when I said your chip was a gooder and an SP108+ and stood by the assessment? 🙂 I'm glad you got a rockin' CPU bro! You have good, positive energy and an almost giddy love of hardware that is refreshing to see. You've been rewarded with a monster 11900k and now a stand out 13900k. CENS clearly sees the same characteristics of your CPU and sees some major potential in it. Congrats! 🙂
