  1. Nice delid shootout of 12900k Stock lid vs Rockit Cool vs Custom DD piece I've never seen before but clearly works LM top and bottom TL;DR: Stock lid was almost equal to RockitCool but DD was the winner far and away easily...
  2. If they purposely hinder any type of enthusiast overclocking it is a hard pass for me. I was going to pick one up and an inexpensive motherboard to play around with but this coupled with STILL existing USB issues makes this DOA IMHO.
  3. Great read! The highlighted line above especially made me chuckle. 🙂
  4. So true. For a fleeting moment there I had both the SM and the KM but having used the SM already for a few months the KM was so locked down and problematic I had to send it back. I figured I'd wait till they worked out some more of the kinks with the BIOS, memory slots and get Prema going but I think they've moved on for the most part which would be a shame if it is left as is. I agree; the icing on the cake would be a last Prema update with 11th gen enabled or a Dsanke level BIOS for the SM and KM.
  5. Buildzoid delving into the SP ratings: Large sample of 12900k and 12600k chips tested (closer to launch). Average over SP = 85. Average P cores = 93. Smile or frown at your current silicon accordingly..... 🙂
  6. De8auer dropped 1400€ for an SP97 binned for testing....yikes:
  7. Many times pins are bent when you: Try to clean excess TIM and snag pins with the cloth/Q-tip Attempt to put the CPU in on an angle and push pins versus a flat mount Accidentally drop the chip when extracting it and it slips Inadvertently drop/hit the pins when the socket is open and vulnerable. ---------------- Did you take any pictures of the socket with the bent pins? Sorry to hear you both had bad encounters with pins. 😞 Hopefully everything turns out well enough in the end.
  8. Sounds about right. Origin was the one known for having slight modifications in their Clevo systems that would cause foreign BIOS flashes to be problematic.
  9. Yep, that type of phrasing will do it. Even that tenuous association between feedback left and getting a working board in that statement will get most negative feedback removed even if you were the clear victim in this transaction. 😢
  10. Didn't want to pony up for the full on 1600w model for future fun? 😁 My last experience with an EVGA 1300 G+ was an open box from Amazon that was clearly used for much time and clearly dead. It went right back.
  11. Buying and selling online is a constant case of due diligence and even then sometimes you can get zinged. I've been buying and selling on eBay for almost 24yrs now (yikes!) and I've definitely run into unethical buyers and sellers regardless of feedback rating. Were you able to get a working board or a refund? What the seller did was purposely lead the question after negative feedback was left. Usually they phrase it like, "What can I do to make it right and get the negative feedback removed?" Depending on how you answer they can go to ebay and claim feedback extortion. If you answered in anyway that relates to, "I'd like a working board. I would update my feedback accordingly" that is definitely going to end with Feedback removal. The right way to answer is, "Feedback has nothing to do with this so please do not involve it in our communication" or similar.
  12. All you can do is make sure, as a seller, to document everything and when you list it take clear pictures front and back, list exactly and make sure to do bench marks, GPU-Z, HWInfo, etc... and post a full screen shot showing time and date that it works. You can also say you will doing one more QA run after bought so the seller (and ebay) has full proof the card is in 100% working order. Once boxed up, take a picture of the package to send to the buyer so they know what to expect. ship via USPS and make sure it has insurance and signature required if you want double protection. Make sure to use eBay's shipping generation services for an extra layer. Make sure to state you are not responsible for incompatibilities so please message if you're not sure. You could say "seller does not accept returns" but if they open a case that it is defective or not as described they are most likely going to get a refund out of it. Of course if you say 30 day return policy they can return it for any reason including incompatibilities. Even after someone purchases it, if you have no confidence or zero confidence in the buyer it is worth it to take a potential feedback strike and cancel the sale versus send it off. I've messaged some buyers and asked specific questions to make sure they know what they're doing and which system. Which make and model of 980m is it and how much are you asking?
  13. Max fans allow from the onset optimal cooling so you know at peak what your system is capable of dissipating since ramp up can sometimes be outpaced initially by thermals and you'll potentially get pockets of thermal throttling and the system may step down the frequency never to regain it in some situations. You may find yourself in some runs thinking your system can't handle it when it is really the fans playing catch up. It's the best way to know if your system is up to snuff if pushed to max. Later on you can play with fan tables to dial in a preferred curve. A few users ran their P870TM1's + 9900k's direct die with some mods and had absolutely fantastic results on NBR. I suspect you could achieve similar with an X170KM/SM.
  14. With the model and approach Nvidia is taking I wouldn't be surprised if a 1000w PSU is the minimum for their top end model and depending on the rest of your components a >=1200w PSU might be in play. If you're a serious overclocker running top end hardware, 1500w+ PSUs are the norm now.
  15. When I moved from an SN750 to an SN850 (same 500GB capacity) I felt zero difference. I mean benchmarks...sure but real world? Nope. As for 4000 series, there really is no choice if this is the direction Nvidia is going. Ada is going to be even more monstrously hungry and there is no way to cram that commercial liner in a Cessna hanger. They seem to be taking the Intel approach. Plus smaller chassis and Nvidia failing to even offer higher wattage offerings that at least match the 200w TDP of the 2080 isn't helping.
  16. Are you planning to delid the 12900k? direct die? Delids do seem to give a nice drop in temps and even out the cores a bit.
  17. The crocs match the furniture (and even the Samsung box) so there's that..... 😄
  18. Welcome! 🙂 I knew you would join the club! I just didn't expect it so soon. When I'm getting ready to discuss something I want to buy, I usually start with a home made meal, make sure any chore list items are finished and then ask if there's anything she's had her eye on and try to establish parity in purchase desire. It works....sometimes. I really have no problems with MSI boards. I found their value Z590 board was a monster overclocker and I grew to like the BIOS very much. I was torn between the MSI Z590-A Pro and the Strix D4 this time around. They were my only two choices. I still can't stand Gigabyte boards. My hard limit for a motherboard is $350. $829 + tax is just crazy talk for my wallet atm. I take it you snagged the SP92 on ebay? That looks like a decent sample if that's the one you picked up. Those Hynix ICs are the way to go too! Congratz Brother!
  19. Well, it looks like this is the place to be now. I advocated using all three sites while the smoke cleared and in less than a month it has done just that. I liked the approach here and Spartan's approach. They both felt like the old NBR in a good way. Hopefully either Spartan is working on something behinds the scene, eventually makes his way here or both. He's a good dude and a valued member of the community.
  20. At those low of frequencies for laptops, Gear2 makes absolutely no sense in any way, shape or form. Gear1 should always be the default. Blame it on the OEM. With much tighter latency the trade off is astronomical versus minimal gains in bandwidth. My Acer Swift 3 in my sig is AMD based and runs gear 2 but at least the memory is at 4266. I still would have preferred 3200 Gear 1. It is soldered on which I loathe too. I had completely stopped visiting that site meaningfully for quite some time now. It was all about here and Spartan's site. I'm very glad @Reciever and @Hiew stepped in and are doing such an amazing job!
  21. I usually use Snipping Tool included with Windows for all my screen grabs and such (unless full screen) for posting and saves. Give that a try too. lol, I have an i3-12100f being delivered to finish building out a low cost system with an Asus H610M-A! 12th gen is pretty nice to the point where a 12100f can keep pace with a 9900k for most games. It slaps down my i3-10105f that's for sure. Edit: I actually ended up switching to an Asrock B660M for less and it offers more. When going dirt cheap is the ultimate goal still try to extract the most bang for buck. Pure P-Cores and half the count at that leaves a nice bit of thermal headroom and yeah, you know they could open it up a bit but the 12100 definitely has to fit within a specific envelope for its target audience.
  22. We watched, "Don't Look Up" on Netflix a few nights ago. Sad and funny at the same time. Lots of cameos. We liked it. I saw the first two Kingsmen movies and enjoyed them. I didn't love them nor would I rewatch them but I definitely did enjoy them. I'll definitely check out The King's Man next.
  23. I must have read Chronicles and Legends at least 10x. I loved the stand alone novels too including Legend of Huma. We even picked up the cookbook and made several of the recipes from the novels. To this day I still can barely stomach Tasslehoff anything 😜 My favorite campaign settings are still Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms. SSI's Pool of Radiance was fantastic and I spent a lot of $$$ playing AOL's online NWN back in the day. Defender of the Crown is a top 5 game too. I originally played it on the C64 (which by your avatar inscription you know ALL about 😁) but the Amiga version (and that opening soundtrack) was legendary.
  24. I can definitely tell the difference between 60hz and 144hz but I have no problems playing at 60hz for most games. My main 32" 4k display is 60hz but when I play on the two laptops I have that are 144hz or I use the dell 25" 144hz display I can definitely see the difference along with 1080p gaming is throwing out serious fps. @ryan I used to run a P870TM1 w/ a 1060 but with the WoW Shadowlands engine upgrade even at 1080p it was chugging in the 40's @ 1080p even at Setting 7/10 in some areas so I upgraded. After dialing in the CPU, GPU and especially memory I sit at 144fps Ultra 10 @ 1080p on the X170SM-G with fans never going close to max so I'm good to go.
