  1. Quake holds a top spot in my heart. When I was younger we would travel to gaming cons just to play. We lived on IRC and scrimmaged for hours on end. My younger brother and I would eat, sleep and breathe Quake everything. Street Fighter II:TE - Before quake this was our world and we spent hours daily in arcades playing. Deus Ex is another one and redefined what could be done with a game and the entire Deus Ex universe still holds a a special place World of Warcraft is something I loved from day one and even though it is long in the tooth I still play it. I've been playing since January 2005. Final Fantasy VI - Still my favorite SNES game and probably home console game of all time along with Chrono Trigger.
  2. How's the 1060 treating you these days for gaming? I had a 1060 in my P870TM but the newest WoW just brought it to its knees in the Shadowlands and I had to dial back settings to medium so I upgraded.
  3. Set it to performance mode in CCC for a higher threshhold. Throttling at 86 is a problem since it should be able to hit 90s before throttling. The total package pull of 153w is a bit low or you have a fantastic chip if it is passing CB23 with that package pull and that could be because it isn't running in performance mode. I know with my KM I had to set it to performance mode then adjust the undervolt to get it where it needed to be. What is your actual CB23 score? This was my first tweaked run on my old KM with an 11900k and a ~100uv with no throttling. Are you running a 10900k or 11900k? See if it can handle a 5 minute CB23 loop without crashing to add more stability to the undervolt. Give Timespy a run too for the GPU.
  4. This late into the game I don't know how much Clevo will have invested into the X170SM/KM. 12th gen is here and it looks like they are finished with DTRs. I know when I had my X170KIM-G it was a mess. It would shut down under load. "Performance Mode" with an 11600k still tried to cram 225w through the CPU even running the newest CCC. I was used to Prema on my X170SM-G so using the locked down stock bios of the KM was not pleasant. Gen4 port was defective along with the keyboard to boot so I sent it back and I'll stick with the SM till the KM resolves itself but I'm not holding out hope.
  5. I find using Edge resolves many issues over on the other sites for now. This translates into other site real world usage too in regards to Firefox. I've been a diehard Firefox user since inception (decades), but the last few years I've found myself having to default to Chrome or now Edge to get some sites to behave properly. This site is working pretty much flawless Firefox or Edge. Like I said before, a lot of this comes down to this site being run by a @Hiew with @Reciever carving out the vision in stone. I've found laptopforums.net has some of the same authentication and "sometimes you're logged in; sometimes you're not" issues. Luckily we are afforded the luxury of using all three sites. My singular morning jump off visit while I quaff my tea has now turned into a three site sojourn.
  6. Whenever a financial component enters the fray things immediately get muddied. The best sites I've found are always the "labor of love" endeavors that almost run as a non profit.
  7. I just checked and it came right up. Make sure to clear your cache and when you login make sure to check "remember me" That was a major hang up with Firefox for me. I also disabled ad blocking. I do agree authentications aren't working either. I think one of the major differences this early on is that @Hiew is a seasoned forum runner so he comes in skills ablazin' and it shows as this site is easily the most polished so far out of the three and running like a well oiled machine. I haven't had one technical hiccup yet. I've encountered a few on the other two. @Reciever is also bringing the heavy heat with a firm attachment to the core principles and ideology of notebookreview. Teamwork makes the dreamwork.
  8. I agree, but with their acquisition by Microsoft if they fold everything into Game Pass I can see them gaining quite a few new users along with expanding the value of the current monthly subscription price for active players.
  9. What are your specs? Looks like you already delidded the CPU with a copper IHS so that was a right step. What was the delta between the stock heatsink and the replacement? Assuming the delid and relid is sound, you're right. Now you are in the land of undervolting and potentially seeking a cooler running chip. Mine came stock with an already binned 10900k, but I wanted even more so I bought a used Silicon Lottery 10900k that pulled even less at stock then undervolted it to bring it down even more. Pop open hwmonitor and do a CB23 run to see what your Vcore and watts pull are ~10 seconds into the run to get an idea of how hot and heavy your chip is at stock. As for Prema, still no word on an ETA for the X170KM-G.
  10. Supply and pricing really seems to be catching up with DDR5 thankfully as they are becoming more available than not these days and don't appear on the shuffle like they did at first. I'll be curious to see which sticks emerge as the clear winners as I take a wait and see with my D4. I know running tests with my SP90 and it drawing 208w at stock and sub 185w LLC1 and passing everything (Y-cruncher, Prime95, etc..) saddens me that Clevo most likely won't offer a laptop chassis for it.
  11. Then it is just a matter of building back and extending the core ideology of the former forums. The most important thing was casting a life boat before the original sank so we can drift to a new island and rebuild.
  12. That will be HUGE if you're able to migrate a good chunk of the previous forums.
  13. I'm still playing WoW. Just leveling alts. I've also been having outings with Diablo II Resurrected. I might dip back and play CP2077 again or DX:MD
  14. Welcome to the official X170KM-G thread covering anything and everything about the truly last DTR made by Clevo. Please read through this post as you will find a wealth of information from the thread and many questions answered you may have before asking. Is Prema available for the X170KM-G? Short answer: NO. Long answer from XMG: "The Prema Mod for XMG ULTRA 17 (E21) was in the works but was ultimately put on hold due to insurmountable differences in the control of 2DPC (Dual DIMM per Channel) with SO-DIMM in the Rocket Lake platform. Works great with desktop DIMM, but rather bad than good with SO-DIMM. Prema Mod for XMG ULTRA will therefore no longer be available from us this year." Unlocked BIOS: Thanks to @ViktorV we have the ability to partially unlock the X170KM-G and gain access to much needed functionality (mainly XMP/timings) Will only work with most stock BIOS versions up to 1.07.08 and is incompatible with XMG BIOS since they mod/tinker with their own. Thanks to @ViktorV for the diagram. Benchmarks and performance...(aka how do I get my CPU to stop throttling?): Hand pick silicon (11th and 10th gen temp/pull variances are extreme) Delid w/ LM between CPU die and IHS Undervolt Check HSF pairing Replace stock screws with non-tension based units for dialed in pressure Use Nanogrease Extreme to compensate for non-optimal pairing If you can keep the overall pull under 190w and it isn't hot and leaky you might win. This goes for both 11th and 10th gen. Custom run (fans on auto) in my old (Dec 2021) X170KM-G with hand picked 11th gen i9-11900k (no delid) and Nanogrease Extreme:

  16. I just saw the old forums are gone now too. RIP old forums. Now the real competition begins for a replacement.
  17. I do something similar in that I usually take a real tenkeyless type keyboard with me and use it when gaming if my laptop is setup in a stationary location (hotel to hotel, etc...)
