Well, obviously all this NBR closing mess.

I'm mad because NBR has been the most friendly and helpful forum I've ever joined. If I look at all the other ones I'm part of, there are those with insane mods breathing down your neck as you type and instantly enforcing silly rules, there are those full of trolls, tire kickers and generally just toxic attitudes (mostly car forums), then there is the type where everyone is just too serious. NBR was the unicorn for me, no issues, always full of friendly folks happy to reply, help or just chat.

The way we started by splitting the community 3 ways, is not a good indication that everything will be ok eventually.

On a more personal front but with a high bother/stress percentage, we're in the middle of a big decision of moving to another state on the other side of the US. We've been living in texas for 7-8 years now and slowly we realized this is not a great place to settle long term.

The NBR closing mess has definitely been a big bother. Really wish the community would all consolidate around one choice. Totally agree that NBR is the best forum - the moderation staff there was the absolute best, bar none. I sometimes visit avsforum.com which has a pretty good mod staff too, but still not quite NBR level. I avoid reddit - there are decent corners of it, but overall the toxicity and stupidity drives me away.

Moving it always a pain. Hope you figure out your plans soon. Which areas are you considering moving to?

My own gripe: I recently (end of September/beginning of October) moved to a new apartment after the house I was renting basically fell apart. Long story short: pipe burst behind my kitchen sink, caused sink to spew water and flood the kitchen, the water sank into the basement and collapsed the basement ceiling and flooded the basement, destroyed many many of my belongings, mold took over the carpet and landlord dragged their feet to fix it so mold went into the walls, once they finally ripped up carpet they discovered water-damaged tile that had asbestos in it... it was a disaster, and I needed to move.

I was happy to finally escape that mess. Now I have a new problem: the neighbors upstairs make a ton of noise and it's driving me nuts. They have a baby, and from what I can tell, they let the baby play on the floor--which seems innocent enough, until you can't sleep at night and can't think straight during the day because of the constant bam, bam, bam on the floor. I'm trying to realign my sleep schedule completely with theirs so that I can get a good night's sleep. So far, the combination of ear plugs + noise cancelling headphones + white and brown noise has helped, but I'll still get woken up in the early morning hours. I've amassed quite a sleep debt over the past couple of weeks, and not sure how much more of it I can take. Not in a rush to move again, but clearly my new place definitely can't be a long term solution :/

We're considering PNW (Seattle area). My employer has an HQ there so job wise it would work out great.

This is one of my major fears. So far we've been having a hard requirement: wherever we stay we're on the top floor. I keep hearing similar horror stories in our current apt complex and I'm always thankful we've stuck to this rule, even if we need to carry stuff 3 floors up all the time.

Ha! I can relate to this so well. I always complain there aren't enough hours in a day for me to do everything I wanted to, I end up going to bed way too late and the next day I'm out of service for all morning.

On the other hand I'm happy to still be able to work from home so usually for the first meeting of the day, I just drag my work laptop to bed and join the call half asleep. Also thankful we don't need webcams turned on 🙂

Gonna take a nap and figure it out later 😄

Hah, I can relate.  I'm starting night shift at the hospital and man it's been rough already.  Only 8 more weeks to go, lol.

Definitely keep that requirement. It's a wise policy that I will be adopting too.

Unfortunately so far the only thing that seems to help is drinking excessive amounts of coffee.

Afternoon naps make it worse as then I stay up even longer that night 🙂

Recently became a freshly shat turd of the US Justice System. Long story short now I'm living somewhere I am uncertain will be copacetic to the conditions of my new probation terms. The prospect of having to move is pretty bothering, plus the laundry list of new noses sniffing around in my personal life. I could go on but I'm sure it would be a lot of the same. I am glad to be working full-time and despite the governmental intrusion I feel as if I'm handling it with modest positivity. Wish me luck!

I had some important professional documents to mail and used the atrocious USPS first class, well it took over 7 days to go 350 miles upstate and I missed an important deadline. I also had some other business mail letter that took 14 calendar days first class. The USPS in January 2022 is fraudulent, deficient, negligent and worse. I feel like it's just some sort of graft or other scam sucking billions of public dollars that's not being used to actually move mail but is enriching dirty people through various labyrinthine ways. Once the new leadership came onboard in 2020 the USPS just got incredibly deficient, not a coincidence I think.

In sort of the same category, for me it's people who must use their phone on speaker, for no reason, in public, in the parking lot next to our apt and they talk louder than I can scream. I see more and more folks with zero common sense and consideration for others.

We have one neighbor who likes to go out on her balcony, in the middle of the night and scream at her phone, on speaker sometimes for hours...

I'm not a fan of that either. It always confuses me too. Like, why would you even want the world to hear your entire conversation? So bizarre.

It's annoying that if you notice in the USA pretty much all the major chains have raised prices from 10-45% and we've seen the "inflation" stories in the news all over. Sounds like just a snowjob to me. Inflation has been going on for years and years but it's hidden really, housing alone is a terrible example that's low key. I mean quantitative easing is inflation on a massive scale.  The dollar store is now the 1.25$ store now, +25%, oh but they're not changing their name of course. I noticed this first at walmart about 2 months ago usually in the 5-15% range but have noticed in other things I have bought there a 45-100% price hike. I've adjusted in food items going to regular supermarkets which are actually cheaper as well as non food items going to second hand stores. These mega retailers already made huge profits off of the previous prices for years and years especially walmart, the china store, so it's even more egregious. After all the terrible things of the last 2-3 years these guys have no problem further sticking it to everyone.

My local store 'HomeLand' has had nothing but price increases the last year. Single cereal box of name brand will run $6-9 easily. I can buy the same cereal and have it delivered TO MY HOUSE SAME DAY for HALF the price. It's insanity. Drive 5 mins down the road and pay double (plus my gas and time) or buy it online and sit on my ass while it ships from the hub. Easy decision, but it's probably only driving local grocery prices higher.

Obnoxious gmail won't let me login while traveling using various wifi along the way, it's worked a couple of times if I try again and again but sometimes it will just not do it. I'm usually always logged in via a browser on my phone but it doesn't matter. Sometimes I need the full version to get a few things done on the road so it's a total PIA. And yes I'm aware of the 2 step etc verification but don't want it for a bloody email account. I've started using free NON-gmail emails more and more primarily because google IS evil regardless of what their AI bots say. Who the hell are they to tell me where my "normal" location is anyways? Never any problems with gmx or other free email on that account.

  • 3 weeks later...

I usually just vent about this to people in my life, but eh, why not dump a bit here. Will spoiler health stuff as I can since it can be a bit detailed.

Spoiler

I have a bunch of health issues due to medical neglect by family members growing up, and due to that I've developed really bad arthritis in my whole body as well as a frequency to get sick; last night absolutely sucked in that regard. Partner had to help me get food and water because I couldn't get out of bed due to the pain I was in. It was honestly one of the worst nights I've ever had, and it wasn't helped by the fact the pain made me horribly nauseous. Kinda hate that I'm currently in a place where I have to be dependent on someone to make sure I make it through some of my worst days. At the very least, I have a cane to move around.

In another way, I feel in a weird way that I'm too young to have this happen to me; I'm 22 and my health is awful to the point I've been actively gaslit by my parents that I cut off recently because they weren't being healthy. Had a therapist do the same, but at least my blood work proves something is messed up in that front. At the very least, I'm not overdoing myself every single day like I was when I was living with my mother; silver lining

.

also sad that DIA didn't have anymore than 4 things of carbonara but that's me just liking that stuff way too much
