Looking good, Brother John. Now we're back on topic again, too. 👍

Have you found a Windows 7 driver mod for 4090 yet? I've searched high and low, and found nothing. I spent about a half day yesterday trying to mod one myself. I finally tweaked things enough to get the driver to install normally and without error (a DCH driver) but when I reboot the GPU is code 43. There has to be a way to do it, I just haven't figured out what the Green Goblin and the Redmond Retards did to interfere with the functionality... yet.

Thanks.

So I see! 🙂

I went down that path for like 2 days, but everything resulted in partial driver installed, but with error 43. So I gave up. That was back when I got my first card.

It seems one of the Norwegian stores have the 4090 HOF from KFA for sales. Have sent a request about this card to the webshop (to be sure they have it in stock, and the info on the page is correct). Will see what they say. $290 $200 above the Asus 4090 Strix OC that I still can't get my hands on. Always sold out (It feels like the damn Notify system and call center has to be broken). And it seems I need to buy a second BE QUIET! 12VHPWR PCI-E ADAPTER CABLE that add 20$ on top🤯 + this HOF card will destroy the "all black" finish😟

Has anyone here tried the Honeywell PTM7950 phase-change pad? Apparently it's the new best thing. Just ordered some on ebay, as kind of disappointed with all the non-LM pastes I have tried. They may be great for laptops or lesser  CPUs, but they are not really cutting it with a standard AIO and 300W workloads.

I have a lot...been testing for months.

I have tried in:

Alienware M18xR2 (i7 3920XM CPU & RTX 3000 GPU)

Alienware 18 R1 (i7 4930MX CPU & RTX 3000 GPU)

Alienware Area-51m R1 (i9 9900K Desktop CPU & RTX 2080 200w GPU)

I have several other computers I will be testing in shortly.

From my tests:

These are very good for laptop chips (mobile cpus/gpus with the die exposed)

my 9900k in area-51m r1 unfortunately didn't receive the same treatment. It reaches 100c. It is a desktop chip so I think for desktop chips that have an IHS, paste will be better.

This is of course a single desktop cpu I have tested so far, but for laptops it works well.

Several months later and they're still one piece and cooling fine.

I didn't order mine from eBay, got it from some site I think it was ebuy7 or something.

Thanks. Since I will receive the pad first, I wonder if it would be possible to hack it for application in a desktop CPU, e.g. heat up and stretch or roll to flatten before application.

Possible, i wonder also how it behaves on desktop cpus, think @Talon had bad experience with it on the cpu side. Most of the people are using it with notebooks where it shines. Also i think Nvidia is using a variant on the 4090 FE aswell.

Honeywell PTM pad works fantastic for direct die application. I’ve been using it on my Omen 16 for over a year and temps haven’t gotten worse a single bit. Core to core temp differentials are tight and it provided for me near LM results with no risk.

I also put it on an AMD 6750XT and had huge temp improvements there as well.

They do NOT work well on desktop CPUs. My hypothesis is that the IHS does not get hot enough to “melt” the phase change thermal pad. Where direct die gets hot and will melt it. This melting is necessary as initial temps will be terrible! When you first install it expect horrible near thermal shut down temps. This is completely normal as the pad is thick and needs thermal cycles to

Melt and meet optimal thickness. This can take 20 minutes of load/cooling, a few hours or a day to reach full potential. I’ve found a couple hours and it will be a max potential. It will never need to do this again, only on initial application.

Many thanks for those insights. I can tell I will have a ton of fun with this stuff lol. So what happens when the pad melts, I presume the excess is permanently squeezed out of the contact area? It would follow that unlike graphite pads, this one is not reusable.

Thx for the info, yes the pads are made for industrial use and in the car industry where they need to last long without any maintenance so its very useful to put it on and forget about it, should last the whole life cycle of the notebook.

I have a hunch that these are the pads that Alienware used on the stock heat sinks back in the day. They worked well and were very durable. But, you could not remove and remount the heat sink or it would destroy the original phase change pad. I suspect that would hold true here as well. If you ever needed to take it apart, you would need to remove the old pad and replace it.

Me, now have to order the second BE QUIET! 12VHPWR PCI-E ADAPTER CABLE (dual chance for Nvidia connector melting and fire, LOOL)

In short.... Me looking on my own self-awareness... Me seeing I'm Klin Kokos, LOOL

Oh' well, Asus lost their chance to get my hard earned money (They reduce inventory to keep up high disgusting prices)and I was forced to spend more than needed ($200). What a game. But in the end, with the Norwegian 25% Tax on top, the HOF card won't be more expensive here home. I don't pay more than what you have to pay in other countries. This is the only good I can say about this purchase.

The weird part.... 4090 HOF is almost impossible to get in the whole EU. Being able to get your hands on one here in little Norway is quite interesting. Will believe it when I see the shipping label. This means I will wait ordering the second power connector until I see the shipping label is delivered in my email.

It became to much of a hassle...At every turn we were getting shut down and our suggestions were getting blocked by tricking us into working with manufactures on making a better product for the community, but it was to help them lock us out of them. Then allow them to make a cheaper version as we couldn't get past their power related issues.... And the list goes on.

One of the reasons. + as bro John said above.... All laptops become more and more crippled/castrated. In the older days you could get real 200W mobile graphics cards that could run above 300W.... Nowadays, power capped down to 150W and the stupid feature +25W dynamic boost if the Cpus run way below its rated PL1/PL2. Dynamic boost/Smartshift feature is a damn bad tech meant to castrate the cooling/cost cuts. I posted some info earlier. One of my post can bee seen here.

I made my avatars on basis of this older video. And my avatar is my expression what I feel about new modern laptops. All my avatars is about new and modern disgusting tech.

I'm too old dealing with awful engineered laptops. I just can't handle it and I feel sick if I see one.

What Brothers@johnksssand@Papusansaid. Laptops just aren't worth the money, hassles and headaches at this point. Trying to make them less trashy garbage is a waste of time and energy... totally futile. The only thing that makes a modern turdbook better than a smartphone is having a larger screen and keyboard/mouse.

And Samsung ain't the only company that offer BAD QC and declining quality. Being the Guinea pig for new and modern come at a price.

Samsung 990 Pro Firmware Update Addresses Failing SSD Health

The update fixes the underlying cause of the rapid health declines, but it's not all good news.
https://www.tomshardware.com/news/samsung-990-pro-firmware-update-released-ssd-health

Users that applied the 1B2QJXD7 firmware seemingly confirm those comments, with Redditor caixote writing, "The degradation is still the same for me (78%), so I guess this update is a band-aid to not get more degradation than normal." Angry_old_dude hypothesized, "I'm working from the assumption that the accelerated wear is legit. [Assuming] a firmware update can't fix that. All it can do is fix the problem that was causing it. This would also mean that people who have drives with additional wear due to the problem will have to RMA the drive."

So, I ordered a Barrow GPU block. I was going to wait for a Alphacool Eisblock Aurora, but found a thread on Reddit where someone that had one discovered there are two VRM chips that have no cooling (totally bare). The cold plate totally missed them. They even took a picture showing it with the block installed, and that's a definite way to end up with a dead GPU. Most likely the issue is they used the MSI Trio as the basis for the block design. It has the same PCB as the Suprim, but it does not have any VRM components there, just empty solder pads where they would be on a Suprim.

Then, the Bykski block for one of the 4090 models doesn't allow proper seating of the 12VHPWR cable because it presses on the tab for the latch and keeps it from latching. You'd have to carve a notch into the acrylic to create clearance for the tab in order to fix it.

I am not going to spend $350 on an EKWB or Phanteks GPU block, so that leaves Corsair and Barrow. It's coming from Fontana, CA so I might have it tomorrow or Wednesday.

@Papusancongrats on the Galax HOF 4090. It should be a really great overclocker. Hopefully, it's performance will be more than enough to cause you to forget about the silly color choice and its hideous aesthetic qualities. Maybe at least one company will make a GPU block for it, so that might fix that issue for you. The PCB will still be white, but that would fix the other aesthetic issues.

HeHe. Thanks. The massive glass door on the 1000D is quite dark and I don't have much bling bling lights in there, so I expect it will be of a minor problem. What I need to see in the chassis is only the MB debugger, Aqua Computer high flow NEXT monitoring screen and the screen for the graphics card. The black design theme is still there and won't change much.

But I'm not 100% sure they really have the card to send out... Same shop couldn't deliver the MB I ordered for my son last year. Need to see what happens the next days (Can be sure only they send in the tracking shipping label). And I won't order a second 12VHPWR PCI-E ADAPTER CABLE before this is clear. Otherwise I don't have the need for a second cable(all other brands cards have only one power connector).

Of course Nvidia CEO hails ChatGPT. This is the ultimate replacement for Miners to be sure they can continue with higher prices vs previous gen cards.

Not so sure you are able to find the price bottom in same way as before. They all are damn clever find new ways to keep up prices.

And not always you can hear the small latch go in place. A very bad designed connector. And as you can see... Bad design solution also from other well known manufacurers of HW/gears. They all follow same trend down the drain.

Maybe Nvidia gave them an tecnical draw how to do it... This is just stupid engineering and design. With a HOF card you would risk double chance of fire (dual 12VHPWR power connectors).

Maybe they should implement new fire extinguisher tech for their fantastic engineered HW?😀

Me..... Still not opened the package with my new screen (see pict) due me still waiting on Asus 4090 Strix OC..... Me, will never be the 4090 Strix OC (impossible to get, due ordering competition is so hard).... Me checked out other places every day over weeks..... Me, one day I found an other option(see above)..... Me ordered KFA2 4090 HOF (The co-branding of GALAX in EU)CIGAR.gif.15011a24ec3c78923f52d8943d2edabd.gif.....

We have words for this here home bro Fox... "Klin kokoshttps://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klin_kokos

Electrosoft, no pict of my all black crocs now, but new pict will come a later dayCIGAR.gif.15011a24ec3c78923f52d8943d2edabd.gif

My wife ordered this one. I knew nothing before I woke up and checked the mail 🙂

Second monitor still un-opened.

The day my wife buys me a GPU is the day I cancel the order. I love her with all of my heart and being, but she doesn't know tech. I created an actual video game for her for Christmas about ten years ago and she (like me) grew up playing video games, however, since it required a mouse/keyboard she couldn't wrap her head around the controls. I built her a 10900K/3080 rig. It just sits there, unused with a keyboard that still sprews RGB vomit. With all that said, she is the only person, personally around me that has zero problems with the fans blasting on my MORA radiators.

No, but it is probably a bugged run. I ran one right behind it that was just a few points less than your last submission. I forgot to take a screenshot with NVCP open so I am trying to get another buggy run with the screenshot showing it enabled.

Edit: I think what might be happening is ECC enabled sometimes glitches and disables itself.

@johnkssstry enabling the CPU legacy control in the BIOS and press Scroll Lock to disable the e-core for Firestrike Test 1 only. Right between Test 1 and 2, hit Scroll Lock again and toggle it back on again. I think you may find your Test 1 score goes up. If you don't toggle e-cores back on again all of the other tests will have lower scores.

Didn't try that tip you mentioned but will try it when I reboot my pc.
