Supercool Gen 13 direct die install “Full length video”

No time for leak testing. 😀

In the video I swap out the old Gen 12, for the new Gen 13 supercool!

I really love these blocks! They are hard to get your hands on them when they are gone. And EKWB has pushed orders back even further for their very own direct die option that cost like $240+ for the base model, this thing is easily the best option. Especially for only $125 USD shipped. Mine took 19 days for delivery using the slow shipping method.

The Gen13 model is longer, and the cold plate fins are literally 50% longer, and about 20% wider.

I'm sure bro Fox enjoy the nice sound from the black box more than the puking colors😎 I still haven't installed any software to make this tolerable.

Time Spy is DirectX 12. From what I remember Win 7 doesn't support it.

Yes, it absolutely does support DX12. There are games that run it on Windows 7. Gears 5 is one example. I have tested it and it works better on Windows 7 than it does on Windows 10 or 11 (not surprise here). Same with resizable bar support. Everything is supported by Windows 7. The problem is that we are being lied to. Constantly. By complusive, habitual, compulsive liars who do not deserve the air that they breathe.

Yes, you know me well. Black with white light, or black with no light is what I like.

Use OpenRGB. Don't install the garbage from ASUS for the lighting. You do not have to run it except when you want to change the lighting.

Whenever possible I avoid using the RGB headers on my motherboard and use a cheap external controller so that no software is needed. I have my EKWB GPU block on the 3060 Ti and the EKWB Velocity block connected to that and I just push the buttons on it to make it static white. I only need to use OpenRGB if I have a GPU that has RGB controlled through the PCIe slot. With aftermarket waterblocks, you generally use a separate cable for RGB and I like that better than being native to the GPU.

I'm glad they fixed their issues with the LGA 1700 block. The first revision that they ripped me off on was an absolutely worthless piece of trash. The 10th Gen was amazing.

I got mine from EKWB and installed it last night. I really like it. Super well-made and works nicely. Knocked about 6-8°C off my max load temps and about 3-5°C lower on my idle temps.

It came with Conductonaut and I used it, but I see now why I stopped using it and went back to Liquid Pro. It is too watery and core temps are less uniform. If it doesn't even out I will probably remove the Conductonaut and replace it with Liquid Pro. But, yeah... good results for sure. Ambient temperature in my office is 75°F (25°C) right now.

Thanks bro Fox. I will see how it works with the HOF crown for the screen and the card. The Crown have dual purposes. It warns when there is something wrong with the power connections. Both for both of the 16-pin connections on PSU and the GPU side + bling bling. I expect the light will change to warnings whatever light pattern I use if the Gpu discovers changes with the power connections.

So the 4090 has the same GDDR6X memory as the 3090 and 3090Ti?

Exactly the same specs-wise.

That’s interesting, unfortunately the 4090 mobile does not have GDDR6X. If I do end up with a 4090 laptop, It would be temping to have some one de-solder and re-solder on some better GDDR6X modules on board. With mild overclocking this would be about a 25% jump in bandwidth. This would essentially remove most of the gimp within the card.

The cost to do this is actually cheap, coming across the modules is another story. Probably from a broken 3090 maybe. It has 24GB GDDR6X, so I would assume it would have (16) working GDDR6X modules on board.

This would really be awesome to do!

Sounds ambitious. Are GDDR6 and GDDR6X modules electrically compatible? Even if they are, GDDR6X requires more power: wouldn't you fry the laptop mobo/VRMs that way? Even if the VRMs held up, what about the extra heat?

They are compatible. The bios already supports both. Funny thing is, the GDDR6X modules use less power than GDDR6 modules. The pad layout is identical.

People have done this in the past. Typically with desktop graphics cards. For example, the 2080 Super has the new Samsung 18.5gbps modules, and the 2080Ti had the slower 14gbps modules. People would de-solder and swap the 2080 Super IC’s over to a 2080Ti lol. And they could OC that 2080Ti to like 20Gbps.

It sounds more crazy than it is. These repair shops will quickly de-solder and re-solder an IC like no bodies business. I have actually found the IC’s for $25 each.

This would be something to really consider.

That would be quite an amazing feat. Makes me wonder why, say MSI wouldn't do that themselves in their $5k Titan, just to claim the performance crown. Doesn't make sense. They could be under some weird agreement with Nvidia I guess.

Also checked a couple of sources and all agreed that GDDR6X uses more power due to the higher bandwidth, despite being 15% more efficient per bit. Back of the envelope calculation suggests 27% more power draw. Probably OK in a larger laptop, best to check the VRM specs though.

I know, it’s really silly. That MSI GT77 Titan runs crazy cool too, it really is a beast either way. I watched several reviewers gaming on one and it seemed to hover around 58-68C on the GPU with whatever OEM thermal paste they have applied on it.

Samsung also has some new memory recently out. It is not GDDR6X, but it is just normal GDDR6 modules that are actually 24gbps rated, these are downclocked to lower speeds. That would be just nuts to throw those in a laptop LOL. (if they are not already on board)

Honestly the factory IC’s on the 4090 mobile may surprise people. I have not found anyone who has really tried to push them to the max. It’s just a shame the unit is capped to 175 watts, and with pushing that memory OC we are really taking away from that power envelope, it definitely has the cooling over head to handle 200 or maybe even 215 watts at the higher end of temps.

It would be nice to be able to shunt mod this GPU or trick its power consumption some how. Or better yet, maybe one of these other manufacturers will release a higher power 4090 that we could flash over too.

I know that the bios does list (4) different GDDR6 support items. That is for the Mobile 4080. I assume the 4090 mobile bios is the same. It supports Hynix, Micron, Samsung, and Other. Whatever (Other) even means lol.

Samsung does make GDDR6 24gbps IC’s these would be the ticket.

Not just yet. I’m still tossing the idea around for a bit. I do want the GT77 Titan though, primarily for the larger Mini LED display and class leading cooling performance. But $4,699 for a laptop is a lot. I am nearing that point of no return though. I want it so bad at this point, I am probably gonna actually buy one. 🥰

That would make for a great write up and posts actually. Hope you do order it and light up the MSI laptop section with some quality, indepth posts.

I've just accepted market forces have spoken and BGA is basically it. The NH55 was the last, partial hurrah for a hybrid DTR (everything interchangeable except the GPU). Alienware, then MSI and finally even Clevo have fully left the "desktop hardware in a laptop" market. It's a sad, sad day but it is what it is.

There was a time where it was predominantly all big and thick laptops with a small bit of lighter and thinner laptops but as time passed the market spoke and we progressed to where we are now. Bean counters only respond to what sells better and material costs overall to maximize profits. The point is the vast majority do not want to lug around monster sized laptops with poor battery life. They want light, battery efficient laptops first and foremost and raw power second.

We are now officially to a point where those last gen (and older) true DTRs just can't keep up with this new BGA  hardware on any level. 😞

Based on reviews, it looks like you could get the GT77 4090 in the same playing field as your stock 3090 desktop so you would have a comparable mobile workstation of serious power. The leap between last gen laptop 3080ti and this gen 4090 is massive yielding an overall gain of 50%+ across 1440p and 4k and 40%+ at 1080p. Even the mobile 4080 crushes the 3080ti by 25-30%.

So you're telling me people are spending $2,500+ for a tripod! What leaked into the water!?!

Wait, There's more!!!

Spoiler

NOT WITH THE COMBO!!!

All jokes aside, the cooling on the GT77 is alright, but it saddens me that MSI has all of the resources to build a complex, high dollar computer, but cheaps out on some of the most cheap solutions that will add to the longevity and performance of the computer. I mean come on, its probably just a few more cents and slight adjustment of the GPU side of the heatsink to add more mounting pressure where it matters most.

As for the PCH, even the cheapest desktop MOBOs have cooling for the PCH, this just kills me! (and probably the laptop 5 years in the future LOL!)

Also, @RecieverI have noticed my max image size upload limit is at 62.61kb. Is there some stuff going on with the server you are using to host or did something go wrong. If I'm honest it's a bit annoying, if it can be fixed I would appreciate it and if not, I can live with it.

You have reached your limit of hosted storage 😞 Save the pictures that are valuable and/or clear some of the fudd to make space. Storage the one aspect we are sadly a bit anemic on. I've been too much of a hermit, really need to get back on the forum grind.

That's what I was thinking it was. I wouldn't mind donating to the cause! I'd love to have more storage.

As for getting rid of my previously uploaded images, what's the best way to go about deleting them? Is there some kind of list that shows all of the images I have uploaded that I can pick and choose which ones to delete?

Disregard this, I just figured it out.

I just touched base with Hiew, we both want to make some progress on the Forum, just been slammed with work. normally Winter is our slow period but due to shifting circumstances and the world economy nearly ending things werent quite regular this year.
