The Dark is E-ATX and has two x16, one x4 PCIe slots. If you do not mind me asknig, what is it that you do that requires 4 DIMMs and two TB ports? Just curious since you said "need" versus "want" and it seems that was not by accident. Data analysis/ML stuff, quite memory intensive. TB ports provide the option to connect additional GPUs, 10GbE (if the board lacks this), or fast external storage - very handy and a major gap in the AMD offering from my perspective. Xeon boards also lack TB support from what I have seen so far which is a shame. 2 "We're rushing towards a cliff, but the closer we get, the more scenic the views are." -- Max Tegmark AI: Major Emerging Existential Threat To Humanity

Add a 10/25G NIC and connect to a file server or install a PCIe M.2 add-in card if faster speeds are required. Need additional GPU compute? Install additional GPU directly to the PCIe slot without performance penalty. For all intends and purposes, TB is a consumer product or even Pro-consumer. We do not want that in our workstation/enterprise builds to take away resources. This is why I'm struggling to convince myself to sell my TRX40 build. If you saw the amount of stuff I've connected (including 8 NVMe drives, GPU, video capture card), there is no way I'll trade those PCIe lanes for TB. AMD may not have TB, but it has the PCIe lanes. 1 1 A Change Is Gonna Come

Agreed if you are building a workstation with a $20,000+ budget. Which is what you would need (OK, maybe a bit less) to get in the vicinity of the raw performance provided by 13th gen + gaming GPUs rig if you are limited to using overpriced 2 slot compute/workstation GPUs. It' s a bit of a hack, I know, but a pretty cool one, if you learn to navigate things like the idiotic LGA1700 socket, and to manage power to avoid a meltdown. Host I/O bandwidth is often of little concern in compute tasks, so there is no appreciable penalty due to the TB connection. Notice how miners (used to lol) use 1x raisers to connect their GPUs. 2 "We're rushing towards a cliff, but the closer we get, the more scenic the views are." -- Max Tegmark AI: Major Emerging Existential Threat To Humanity

Mr. Fox
Laptops are a very foolish expenditure. If purchasing one is unavoidable due to a real (not perceived) need, one should try to determine what the lowest level of performance is that will serve the purposes of that need and strive to spend as little as possible, going no further than what is necessary to satisfy that need. The more you spend on "performance" the less reliable it will be, and the more fussing and maintenance it will require, and the more likely it will be to be disappointing due to the engineering defects and functional limitations that you paid extra for. 7 2 Wraith // Z790 Apex | 14900KS | 4090 Suprim X+Byksi Block | 48GB DDR5-8600 | Toughpower GF3 1650W | MO-RA3 360 | Hailea HC-500A || O11D XL EVO Banshee // X870E Carbon | 9950X | 4090 Gaming OC+Alphacool Block | 32GB DDR5-8200 | RM1200x SHIFT | XT45 1080 Nova || Antec C8 Spectre // Z790i Edge | 13900KS | 3090 Ti FTW3 | 32GB DDR5-8200 | RM1000e | EK Nucleus CR360 Direct Die || Prime A21 Half-Breed // Dell Precision 7720 | BGA CPU Filth+MXM Quadro P5000 | 4K Display | Sub-$500 Grade A Refurb | Nothing to Write Home About Mr. Fox YouTube Channel | Mr. Fox @ HWBOT The average response time for a 911 call is 10 minutes. I don't think that as long as the focus is on producing low-power, thin and light trash, using castrated firmware and severely limiting user access, and having everything soldered to the mobo, that they will ever be worth buying. That ship has sailed, and now it is sinking. Performance is important, but it's not the only thing that matters. The bar is set way too low on too many things relating to turdbooks. They are a waste of time and money, and only a moron would believe it is going to end well. Etern4l
The new ACE Z690, made in 2022 rather than 2021 (kind of along the lines of what you guys were saying about the Apex) is too good to be true. 1. The socket is different, the pins specifically look somewhat more slivery - hope that will prove more resilient and stable long term 2. Heatsink fit using the ILM ranges from very good on the original IHS to perfect on the copper IHS - no contact frame needed at all, and with just hand-tightened heatsink screws. Day and night vs the old setup with the contact frame and basically foolproof. 3. Memory stability is hugely improved: running 5000MHz with 28-36-36-36. Can't believe it, was never able to even train at CL28. With this it seems like it either doesn't train or if it does it works with no errors, in starrk contrast to the old board 4. CPU runs at lower voltages - currently testing 53/43 which achieves 40500 in CB23 (in Linux, which does about 500 points better than Windows), at 1.16V/235W, with temps in the eighties. Pretty good for an AIO. Dlidded CPU is absolutely fine on PTM7950+Apex, and definitely part of the early success story. The experiment continues.. 4 1 "We're rushing towards a cliff, but the closer we get, the more scenic the views are." -- Max Tegmark AI: Major Emerging Existential Threat To Humanity
Ashtrix
Hope all are having a great weekend !! I have finally ordered Cablemod 12VHPWR Adapter Variant B that Igor reviewed it is an essential part for those like me who are looking for "Longevity" and "Stability" of the PC. It is well made, solid 2 Oz copper PCB with extra copper on top. And passively cooled using CNC AL top frame (apparently Igor worked with Cablemod on improving the design). Yes, 3090Ti does not need it because of the lack of Sense pins utilization as they are grounded. But I want to be on the "Tulip" design of the micro connectors without causing the internal wear and tear of the socket, oh also this Tulip / Spring design is a part of the new revised Intel ATX 3.0 standard update of 12VHPWR that along with Sense pins male plug being elongated, remember when GN Steve was shaming Igor and published it's the user error, the nonsense that Apple spews, anyways what Igor mentioned is 100% accurate as the Spring latching is better than Dimple mechanism trash plus that awful Nvidia abomination of Adapter is unbearable to look at and work around with plus the unwanted 35mm bending annoyance with the new 12VHPWR be it custom cables or not, the Adapter is a must imho. That along with Microfit 16-Pin with 8Pin x3 connector with AL frame cover and full custom Modflex kit, it costed a TON, almost as much of my CPU (as I needed more SATA power too), really BS. But I hope it is worth the cash as I was already frustrated with the stock PSU cables which are stiff and ugly as hell. 5 1 Helios (WIP) i9 10900K // Trident Z Royal C16 4000MHz B-Die 32GB // ASUS Maximus XIII APEX // Noctua DH15 Chromax // RTX3090Ti FE // Alienware 360Hz G-Sync Ultimate IPS FHD // Seasonic Prime TX 1000 Titanium // Fractal Meshify 2XL Ethereal Ranger Alienware 17 R1 // i7 4710MQ // 16GB DDR3L 2133MHz // 980M 860M loaner // Windows 8.

But I hope it is worth the cash as I was already frustrated with the stock PSU cables which are stiff and ugly as hell. I need to get one of those. Not just for the quality they bring, but I don't care for the way the cable looks coming out of the GPU with a big arch to it. Having the right angle will just look a whole lot better IMHO. I have a Cablemod Pro 12VHPWR cable, so it will compliment that nicely. The only one available when I ordered was the black and white. I actually kind of like it. Gives it a "racing stripe" look. I still would have preferred all back, but whatever. I will go with the silver version. It will compliment the Bykski block and chrome fittings. The stubby 8-pin to 12VHPWR adapters that all of the new GPUs ship with a just idiotic and super ugly. They wouldn't be so horrible if they made them 12-14 inches long, but the short pigtail approach is unacceptably ugly. Cheaping out on this while charging truly abusive prices for the GPUs shows us exactly what kind of sorry crooks we are dealing with. 2 1 Wraith // Z790 Apex | 14900KS | 4090 Suprim X+Byksi Block | 48GB DDR5-8600 | Toughpower GF3 1650W | MO-RA3 360 | Hailea HC-500A || O11D XL EVO Banshee // X870E Carbon | 9950X | 4090 Gaming OC+Alphacool Block | 32GB DDR5-8200 | RM1200x SHIFT | XT45 1080 Nova || Antec C8 Spectre // Z790i Edge | 13900KS | 3090 Ti FTW3 | 32GB DDR5-8200 | RM1000e | EK Nucleus CR360 Direct Die || Prime A21 Half-Breed // Dell Precision 7720 | BGA CPU Filth+MXM Quadro P5000 | 4K Display | Sub-$500 Grade A Refurb | Nothing to Write Home About Mr. Fox YouTube Channel | Mr. Fox @ HWBOT The average response time for a 911 call is 10 minutes. I suspect the value that you're seeing displayed as voltage in CPU-Z is not accurate. It is never vCore, and that is the one that actually counts. Your LLC setting can also give CPU-Z VID readings that are even more misleading if you don't know to ignore that number. On an ASUS mobo, if SVID is disabled it gets even stranger. That also messes up CPU Package Power measurements. I don't know why this has never been corrected. Probably because it's free, and sensors vary widely among mobo brands and models. I suppose we shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. It would be best if that value was just removed from CPU-Z because it is not useful. 39 minutes ago, Raiderman said: Set up looks great brother @Mr. Fox! Question? So, I can't upload them to HWBOT without validation links. @Papusan or @johnksssis there a patch or something for the HWBOT version of Heaven benchmark? When I click the clicks to "take a screenshot" I get the error show, it closes and there is no file created to upload. 1 Wraith // Z790 Apex | 14900KS | 4090 Suprim X+Byksi Block | 48GB DDR5-8600 | Toughpower GF3 1650W | MO-RA3 360 | Hailea HC-500A || O11D XL EVO Banshee // X870E Carbon | 9950X | 4090 Gaming OC+Alphacool Block | 32GB DDR5-8200 | RM1200x SHIFT | XT45 1080 Nova || Antec C8 Spectre // Z790i Edge | 13900KS | 3090 Ti FTW3 | 32GB DDR5-8200 | RM1000e | EK Nucleus CR360 Direct Die || Prime A21 Half-Breed // Dell Precision 7720 | BGA CPU Filth+MXM Quadro P5000 | 4K Display | Sub-$500 Grade A Refurb | Nothing to Write Home About Mr. Fox YouTube Channel | Mr. Fox @ HWBOT The average response time for a 911 call is 10 minutes. I expect this is also a bug in combination with new modern AMD hardware. Works mostly with Nvidia cards. But this old bench is quite buggy... Enjoy negative FPS. And of course with AMD hardware😎 HWBOT Unigine heaven running backwards (no joke) 1 hour ago, Mr. Fox said: I was going to upload these, but it appears the Catzilla web site is down. Etern4l
Is anyone familiar with Corsair Vengeance DDR5 modules? I'm wondering whether they come wth multiple XMP profiles preconfigured, e.g.whether the 5600 version also has profiles 2 and 3 for 5200 amd 4800 MHz. Corsair just lists a single XMP profile for these. 1 "We're rushing towards a cliff, but the closer we get, the more scenic the views are." -- Max Tegmark AI: Major Emerging Existential Threat To Humanity

I have added my own second profile on DDR4 using Thaiphoon Burner, but none I have ever purchased or seen available for purchase have more than one. Maybe some of the DDR5 now have an Expo and XMP profiles. I don't know because I don't pay close attention to stuff related to Ryzen memory overclocking since it is not relevant to me. 1 hour ago, Papusan said: Not what I know of. It is in some kind of in-between state about half of the normal 3D clock running the HWBOT version of Heaven. 1 1 Wraith // Z790 Apex | 14900KS | 4090 Suprim X+Byksi Block | 48GB DDR5-8600 | Toughpower GF3 1650W | MO-RA3 360 | Hailea HC-500A || O11D XL EVO Banshee // X870E Carbon | 9950X | 4090 Gaming OC+Alphacool Block | 32GB DDR5-8200 | RM1200x SHIFT | XT45 1080 Nova || Antec C8 Spectre // Z790i Edge | 13900KS | 3090 Ti FTW3 | 32GB DDR5-8200 | RM1000e | EK Nucleus CR360 Direct Die || Prime A21 Half-Breed // Dell Precision 7720 | BGA CPU Filth+MXM Quadro P5000 | 4K Display | Sub-$500 Grade A Refurb | Nothing to Write Home About Mr. Fox YouTube Channel | Mr. Fox @ HWBOT The average response time for a 911 call is 10 minutes. This bench is quite glitchy and very picky. And you need run several benches to get to try get an ok score. Loads of people have many weird problems with this benchmark. Maybe a fun bench for bro @ryan 🙂 The fun part. When you posted I run Heaven on the 3070 🙂 1 "The Killer" ASUS ROG Z790 Apex Encore | 14900KS | 4090 HOF + 20 other graphics cards | 32GB DDR5 | Be Quiet!
