Yep, a short adapter connector should be more foolproof vs their cable adapters that was the major culprit for black screens. People had to use the awful adapters coming with the cards for troubleshooting all their problems with 4090. In the end a quality problem/QC problem from CableMod.

Using cable extensions is kind of silly when doing so is avoidable, and adds multiple opportunities for failure. Best to just buy a cable rather than using an extension whenever possible. The difference in cost is small, and the quality is much better, with fewer opportunities for user error.

So! Good news my Z690 Apex booted right up with XMP 7200 maxed out tREFI. Yay!! Going to keep tuning with it, so far so good! Now to just learn this bios.

My P-SP is like 194 yeah I knew this thing was a beast dog. (joking) I know it’s definitely glitched 😂

Definitely not a gimmick, unless you have a 12VHPWR cable with a factory right angle made into it, assuming the right angle is pointing the desired direction. I am not sure there are any. I have only seen cables with straight connectors on the ends.

This type of adapter allows you to route the cable the way you want it, in a tighter space and without compromising the cable or connecor. It is no different than buying cables with 90° ends on them, which I already do for the reasons of convenience, ergonomics and preserving cable integrity. I have HDMI, DP and USB cables and adapters with both 90° and 180° ends on them.

Given the issues we have seen with putting sharp bends in the 12VHPWR cables near the GPU, this has value to add there as well when there is not sufficient space between the GPU and side panel.

Let's use my current setup as the example. I cannot route the 12VHPWR cable behind the GPU return line due to the severe sharp bend it would require. While I have enough space to not kink the cable, it lightly touches the door. With the adapter, I will be able to have it positioned behind the tubing, rather than in front of it, pointing straight down into the case. The benefits are evident for both application and aesthetics.

💯💯

I have 3x on the way. Should be here this week, just waiting for the USPS to deliver them. I got myself one, one for my second rig which actually no longer has a 4090, and one for my brothers rig. They definitely have function and look aesthetically clean.

I’m so surprised by this $270 dollar in total Apex Z690 right now! The RGB’s on the I/O seem to be broken I believe, unless they are just turned off somewhere. 🤷‍♂️ no big deal.

How it runs a CPU default with the vid’s and load cpu vcore is just impressive though! It’s just really really efficient and does a fantastic job with voltages! I’m shocked seeing this.

Many people sell these boards and claim they‘re 2022 models. So, I’m not 100% sure what this thing is. But it’s working great I know that. I was told it’s a 2022, but how do I even know that for sure? It was a replacement and the box does not match.

I doused the dimm slots in 100% alcohol and brushed them and the entire board for that matter this was done before even mounting it up.

I will get in to some overclocking here shortly. I did run XMP 7200c34 no problems and ran some games for a bit to check stability. So, It is stable and working at 7200 at least, will try to actually see what it can do foreal!

2 sticks of Kingston 32GB would run fine at 5600, or a bit higher, on the desktop, but the default latencies would likely be 40-40-40-40 and forgot the last one, 80-sh, you can look it up on Kingston website. Try that and maybe higher voltages, althoughmy experience with Kingston DDR5 suggests this won't help here. Does it revert straight away or after a long period of training? Quick reversion would indicate some lower-level issue with the BIOS.

BTWII recall watching a video where a claim was made that RGB variants of modules tend to perform not as well. Have you guys had similar experiences? I don't care about RGB, but sometimes it's the only variant available.

@Mr. Fox @Papusan @tps3443 @Rage Set

Tried in 3 different laptops. the RAM reverts to 5200Mhz during post. Someone got it working in m16 for a few mins then crashed and reverted to 5200Mhz. I even bought two different kits so it's not the kit.

Interestingly, the 5800Mhz 32GB Kit AW provided to notebookcheck seems to be working fine.

Seems to be some issue with 64GB, 32GB runs fine at native speeds. I'm thinking I'll need to loosen timings, because idk how to do voltage yet. It's in the bios but it doesn't use standard numbers to change values so haven't figured it out yet. Laptop SODIMM apparently has much more limitations than desktop DDR5. But I know for a fact that 32GB 5600mHZ and 5800Mhz RAM is working fine.

This was from a different seller. There was a Z690 Apex on Hwbot missing the covers/heat sinks/box/accessories. Just a bare board for $300 and however much to ship to the USA from another country.

This one came in retail packaging though for $270 shipped, it has all of the accessories, heatsinks, covers, box, M.2 ram slot card, and a PCI-e 5.0 M.2 card, and everything else that’s included with one.

Yeah, 2R /32GB DDR5 (and now 48GB!) modules just run slower, and 4 modules are yet another level of challenge.

Since gaming is not very important to me, and I don't play the games mentioned in the release notes, I think I will pass. The December 2021 driver seems to have resolved my Micro$lop Office text rendering problems and it benches well, so newer drivers probably won't do anything special for me. Newer drivers for anything seldom makes me happy, so I will just stay where I am now and enjoy having things working as intended.

The notion that lowering 3DMark scores is going to be OK seems laughable to me. That's not a good option as far as I am concerned. Playing "Meet Your Maker" and "The Last of Us: Part 1" must be really important to some people.

I thought the new driver for 3DMark could work for you but not for the gamers who try figuring out why their shiny Red cards bench3ed as garbage. Remember what not works for other may offer more for those that seeek awesome🙂

The King has many GPU's though. Every other day you are benching a different card 🤪

I suppose I could do a Macrium Reflect backup before testing the new driver. I need this to be reliable since it is my work PC. AMD software/drivers put deep hooks into the OS very much like the ASUS Armory Crate cancer feces. After using Revo and DDU I still found trash running in the background from AMD and using Autoruns to disable that made my OSes on the benching rig unbootable with BSOD. I had to restore old Macrium images from before installing the 6900 XT to get rid of the stuff. It really pissed me off, but thank God I had the Macrium images.

Please post screenshots showing the Overall, P-core, E-core and MC SP ratings for your 13900K and 13900KS CPUs. Would love to see what both of them really are now that you have a mobo that can tell you.

Will do, 13900KS is running pretty well, I have updated the bios and firmware on my Z690 Apex, but my SP reading is still glitched. I’m thinking I’ve got to re-seat the cpu, pull battery, etc (I assume this will fix it, but I’m annoyed I’ve gotta do all of this). When I pull the cpu, it’ll be to put the 13900K back in to see its updated SP rating and test on this Z690 Apex.

The voltage delivery on this motherboard is really amazing though, I will say that. Asus has that stuff down to a science.

I was extremely disappointed when I removed the covers on this Apex to find a measly (2) whole M.2 slots … Like seriously? (2)?!!! That was literally going to be a deal breaker for me and I was gonna box it, and put it in the closet. Because I have several M.2’s. And I like to use them all.

Fortunately!!! Saving grace came through! The board included a brand-new ROG Dimm2 that holds an M.2 on each side, and slots in to a look-a-like memory slot right beside the DDR5 dimms. It also included another PCI-e x4 M.2 5.0 to add another.

I also switched my main OS to Windows 11 Spectre which is stripped down and very very fast!

Awesome. Looking forward to seeing what they are.

Be careful. I don't know why (it makes no sense at all to me) but it seems like ASUS CPU socket pins are easier to bend than any other brand. Maybe it is just coincidence that it seems that way, and it is one of their famous excuses for denying warranty support.

The DIMM.2 feature is nice. They always worked well for me, but I would prefer to have the M.2 drives in the normal spot if I had the option of choosing. I don't really like having them next to the memory slots. There are some drawbacks to it. It was really cool as a geeky novelty feature when I had my first ASUS mobo with DIMM.2 though.

What sort of drawbacks with the Dimm2? Does it effect memory overclocking?

No, nothing like that. Never any functional or performance issues. I have had it clash with some things (components) because of where the DIMM.2 module is placed next to the memory modules. Depending on how important looks are, it can also clash aesthetically with your memory modules.

I would just prefer to have them in the normal place on a modern motherboard. Much cleaner and neater near the PCIe slots under heat sinks that take up no extra space anywhere else. It's putting worthless unused/wasted space to good use when they are in the normal place. Out of sight, out of mind, out of the way.

I did have an ASUS mobo that the DIMM.2 slot stopped working and had to be RMA'd, as ASUS have had QC issues in the past with bad memory DIMM slots at well. I think it is their super-duper robot soldering machine army that is so awesome, except for when it isn't.
