yeah its frustrating looking for what you want, not finding it then having to buy their worthless crap. thats how I feel about the big picture, my laptop should have better cooling and why not make it .3-.5 in thicker for fans/pipes.

And, you know what is REALLY stupid about that is the fact there are actually people that prefer having an overheating, throttling piece of garbage that is a tiny bit thinner and a few ounces less weight. As long as there are people that think that way and laptop manufacturers cater to cuckoo-nuts that do, laptops are universally predestined to be a broken piece of trash before they reach the end of the assembly line. We have idiots like that to thank, and the retarded people that manufacture trash, for the degradation of all mobile computing options available for purchase. There is not one single laptop available now that I would be excited about purchasing or enthusiastic even if I were receiving it as a free gift.

What is good enough for you? 900MB?😎 Or even lower? You know you risk lower performance if you reduce the mem footprint too far? What is it in English? Diminishing returns?

What is the Law of Diminishing Returns?
In a production process, as a production factor increases, the amount of total output increases, but will reach an optimal output level before it begins to decrease or diminish

This OS will probably be a gaming OS. If I ever get the time for that, LOOL

Here's a fast run with AS-SSD I did with the new Samsung 990 Pro 2TB drive.

Heres the review results of same Samsung 990 Pro.... https://www.thessdreview.com/our-reviews/nvme/samsung-990pro-gen-4-ssd-series-review-samsung-reigns-true-yet-again/3/

And here below is an review of Gen5 drive that was the so called worlds fastest PCIe-ssd. Fast in sequential speed but fail in the more important 4K random read/write and in the total score. So newer has to be better. Always 🙂

AS SSD BENCHMARK VER 2.0

The toughest benchmark available for solid state drives is AS SSD as it relies solely on incompressible data samples when testing performance. For the most part, AS SSD tests can be considered the ‘worst case scenario’ in obtaining data transfer speeds and many enthusiasts like AS SSD for their needs.…

Depends on the type benchmarks you run. Usually you get max speed etc in Crystal Diskmark and similar ssd benchmarks.

And as I have already pointed out… Sequential read/write isn’t what you should measure as the important speed. You don’t move huge files the whole day or 24/7/365.

As for the 5gen ssd above you should see Sequential Reads/Writes: 12,400 MBps / 11,800 MB/s. But you get well under 10.000 MBps in AS-SSD. Different benchmarks give different results.

Agreed. I mainly look at the ssd's worst case speed, when it writes directly to the memory without dram or slc caching.

I'm not going to be bothered by the speed of the drive when it's empty. I just don't want it to be slow when it hits 80-90% capacity when the SLC cache is almost nonexistent.

I'll just keep getting whatever NON-QLC drive gives me the most TB/dollar. Top speed is just a nice bonus.

It's all clickbait at this point. For productivity, especially video editing, Nvidia is in the lead. On my "workstation", I am sticking with Nvidia for GPU and Windows. I will not let CUDA go until AMD has a GPU that can "translate" CUDA for proconsumer (I understand AMD is working on this tech currently).

Gaming is a different story though. I game on my 6800 XT attached to my LG C2 all the time and I don't feel like I am missing anything. Some games I run at 4K while others, 1440P.

I am at a crossroads though. I want to upgrade this all AMD gaming rig. I am not sure if I am going to stay all AMD (AM5 and 7900 XTX) or go 14 Gen and Nvidia 4090 TI. I am still waiting to see when (not if) Nvidia is going to release the top Ada GPU.  At this rate, I may end up going all AMD again due to pricing.

Pretty much everything in the tech industry is moving to the point that it boils down to "How much are you willing to put up with and at what price tipping point are you willing to tolerate that much crap?" I am having to re-evaluate a lot of things, including whether or not being a PC enthusiast is even a thing worth pursuing any more.  It is starting to feel like the term "PC enthusiast" is an oxymoron. At some point I could see PC ownership being reduced to the equivalent of owning a hammer or a set of screwdrivers. You use them when you need to drive a nail or a screw. The rest of the time they are in your toolbox. You don't think about them. You don't upgrade them. You don't show them to your friends, make YouTube videos about them, or feel a sense of accomplishment or pleasure from owning them. You might derive some level of satisfaction from what you use them to fix or create, but they are not an object of focus. If awesome doesn't matter any more, then the only questions that remain relate to purpose and adequacy. Can I make do with something from Harbor Freight, Walmart, maybe even the Dollar Store? Or, do I need to spend an absurd amount for a tool made by Snap-On that only gets used occasionally? Can I use a nail instead of a screw? If yes, then why do I need a screwdriver? A hammer is good enough. How many nails do I need to set? One or two? I think I can use that rock in my backyard for that. Why waste money on a hammer?

Spot on.

Especially for gaming: 6000 series was basically equal with Nvidia at 1080p, 1440p and competitive at 4k with RT off.

7900xtx is a price:performance monster compared to the 4090 especially with RT off for gaming.

AMD is still playing a game of catch up but they have made such magnificent inroads on the GPU and especially CPU front these last few generations.

I can't see abandoning AM5 for 14th gen this time around especially on a dead socket (albeit I don't think that matters much to us in this group).

I've contemplated (again) making my itx rig an all air cooled 7800X3D rig, picking up a 7900xtx and making my desktop Intel though (again) w/ Nvidia. Only thing is I would want to run a Taichi 7900xtx and that thing is a chonker.

Do you need have to play with the latest and greatest all time to be a "PC enthusiast"? I fiddle a lot with older hardware so I have to be put in the category "average Joe"....

I got this one. One the way to Papusan's plaza 🙂

I really like the Samsung USB bars. Very good quality and for an ok'ish price here home. They have never failed me. They come in darker grey and silver and in solid metal body. Not the thin and flimsy metal/plastic as some USB thumbs are made of. Real metal body. They are so massive built that I think they easily can withstand being over run with a truck without any problems.

interesting find, but I just installed my ram and checked out ghost recon breakpoint at 4k, and before with 40gb and 16gb configs it was a stuttering mess and unplayable, now I just ran the benchmark and my 1 percent lows must be around 50fps and an average of 70fps on ultimate textures and ultra preset. because now its buttery smooth no issues. before due to ram I was getting 2fps now with 64gb of ram its pushing the card and getting 14fps on ultimate settings at 4k.

0 sources on you tube recommend 64gb its always 32gb. well thats because almost no one really games at 4k ultra. if you have 32gb your missing out on performance, also I turned off my page file just so it doesn't spill over to my ssd not like im actually going to use 64gb. so yeah pretty suprised I honestly did not expect anything, maybe 1 or 2fps more but it was a night and day difference in the GRBP benchmark

Try this. Run cmd as adm.
bcdedit /set removememory 32768

To reset. Run cmd as adm...
bcdedit /deletevalue removememory

See if this make an difference with half the ram🙂 I expect you have 64GB ram.

yeah I havent tried 32gb...im sure they are similar but 64gb was free, otherwise I would have went for 32gb...just was not expecting this much of a jump going from 16gb to 64gb

@Papusanis suggesting limiting your memory capacity to 32GB to test the game to see if any different than 64GB. After test run the second command to make all 64GB available again.

i already tested 32gb 40gb 8gb and 16gb dual channel helps with micro stuttering and more ram 64gb helps with vram bottlenecks..or not..lol..i just booted the benchmark up and tested it, im not sure why its averaging 12fps more and buttery smooth but I don't really care as this is the best thing that could happen to this laptop aside from a fire pit
