I sold my 3090 Kingpin just a few minutes ago 🥲. I’m really just wanting to try something new. And something more efficient.

No going back now. I’ve got to grab a 4080 Super, or 4090 either way.

I will say this though. I game pretty casually lately. So a 4080 super would be good I think.  I really can’t afford a 4090.

I have a limited budget of about $1200 ish dollars for a new GPU.

"not bad" he says non-chalantly 😄 good job there mate hahaha. what kinda clocks and temps are we talking here?

also, say what u will about AMD GPUs, but the 7900XTX at +35% raster performance and +8GB vram vs. the 4070 Ti Super is a no-brainer at the same price... unless you absolutely NEED ray-tracing, then i expect the 70 card to outperform team red by a significant margin. question being, if the FPS are even playable at that point 😄

Thanks. 3135-3240 depending on the benchmarks. 3240 fo shorter benches as GPU-Pi.

Yup, 7900XTX offer more value than the overpriced 4070 Ti Super but I would skip both. None of they are tempting. And the price for the 4070 Ti Shhouldn't have exided $600 USD. That means $750 here home with the tax.

Hmmm. What's the price for a Asus Rog Z790 4 dimm MB? +$700 ? Yet it failed vs the sub $250 board from Gigabyte. Yup, this board cost right now 1/3 of the Dark Hero. Hmmm. What are you paying Asus for? The Rog gaming brand logo? Or the extra added bios features? Oh'well. No board should cost more than $300 USD. And a special gaming brand sticker should never increase the prices.

This is prorobably because we now get higher ram capacity with two memory sticks. Expect more 2 dimm boards with the Z890 series chipset. A welcome move. Just reduce the prices and it looks much better.

Almost anything you buy now is going to be hobbled and castrated. If I were going to buy a brand new GPU right now and my budget was $1200 or less it would be only 4080S or save $900 for later and go with an A770. I would not buy anything from AMD or accept anything less than a 4080S from NVIDIA. If you want something fun to play with, the A770 core overclocks better than the core overclocking on anything sold by AMD or NVIDIA. As long as you don't need the horsepower of a 4080S or 4090 it's the best bang for the buck. The memory does not overclock (no way to adjust it) but the stock memory clock on my A770 is within 150-200 MHz of the max stable overclock that my 6900 XT was capable of handling and it doesn't drop clocks under stress like the 6900 XT did.

I would take that budget 2-DIMM MSI mobo over any 4-DIMM mobo without even pausing for a moment to think about it. 4-DIMM motherboard are a waste of money for overclocking or gaming. Not to mention that they all suck at memory overclocking.

What gamer need 4-dimms boards? You can get up to 96GB with only two sticks. And what gamer need more than half of that capacity aka more than 48GB ram?

Lots of gamers go cheaper/inexpensive (see Steam survey) on HW. Why would they then max out ram capacity on 4 dim board? I could see the need for 4 dimms-board when 16GB was max for each of the sticks, but we aren't there anymore.

The elite/chosen one that get free top binned 4-dimm boards to help boost the sales of the brands products. Pair it with free top binned Cpu and Mem sticks and you are golden.

The more I read about this new 2-dimm MB, the more I think MSI's reasoning for this move is damn flawed or idiotic. This new M-ATX 2-dimm board shouldn't be the successor for Z690 Unify-X. Or maybe this disgustingness is just yet another bad written article by Tomshardware

Read for yourself.... MSI already has the Z690 Unify and Z690 Unify-X for the overclocking segment "but never updated the motherboards for the Z790 chipset". Now, we know why

What you think about the idea that all 2-dimm OC boards forwards has to be in M-ATX form-factor? Can you see how wrong MSI and Tomshardware's editor take on this topic? Is this the best idea MSI had to offer for oc'ers? Offer them OC boards meant for mini-PC's?

As a long time member of the big a** case alliance, I must admit I now understand (somewhat) the draw of SFF builds. It is almost like overclocking, trying to squeeze the most performance out of something that you shouldn't be able to. I still rather have a large case in which to install custom cooling without hassle but again, I get the appeal.

In some ways it probably bears a resemblance to the satisfaction we once had in laptops with desktop CPUs and high powered GPUs, dual 330W AC adapters, etc. They never worked as well as a desktop, but they highlighted how sucky pansy skank turdbooks are.

No. Just. No. Only an idiot would think that is a good idea.

But, OMG, we are surrounded and outnumbered by idiots. So, I would not have a surprised look on my face. I expect 9 out of 10 things that happen in tech world to be stupid due to how prevalent idiocy has become. That applies to producers and consumers. Both are extremely unimpressive groups dominated by a majority of degenerates.

You just answered your own question if you're limited to $1200 dollars. 4090 is out of the question, so it is either a 4080 Super or buy something dirt cheap (since you're casual at the moment). 4070 Super or 4070 ti Super make no sense as you could have just held onto your 3090.

Thanks, that won me a huge bet, sadly there was nobody on the other side.

If you are a casual gamer, the impact of reduced power consumption will be obviously lower, but still the new card will be an upgrade and as a gamer you are unlikely to run out of 16GB VRAM (12GB is another story).

Good luck hunting for a nice 4080S, hope you can stick to your budget, it can be very tempting for us to go overboard.

Anyway, doesn’t look like the 4090D is available in the US or UK (and even if it was, it might not actually be much cheaper than the good old 4090), so 4080S is the sweet spot.

$999 4080S and wait for 5090. Pray to gods you get good GDDR6X 23gbps that can crank to around 26+. Should make for a very decent chip to ride out this gen. Will blow your old 3090 away in every single way and offer lower power consumption. Hopefully another 4080 XOC vBIOS leaks.

Alternatively you could pick up a 4080 used, and flash the XOC vBIOS to it. That XOC vBIOS can do 1250mV. With chilled water, that would be fun. A real XOC vBIOS leaked, something that hasn't happened for the even the mightly 4090.

Happy birthday @Mr. Fox  - onwards in good health!

Thanks, brothers. I really appreciate it.

Hopefully the motherboard from @electrosoft and the SP117 13900KS from Sweden will arrive on Monday. I did find a way to mount the 4x 1TB SATA SSDs on the PSU bracket just above the GPU. Plenty of room for a long GPU, 360 AIO and normal ATX PSU. The A770 has several inches to spare. Should have plenty of airflow with 3x intake and 3x exhaust.

Dang, bro Fox. You may missing out from this tacky bundle with the Dragon coin. These LOOOOONG EDITION cards from Colorful is only for China. Maybe not the biggest problem if you really want a 2nd 4090. It's the castrated China version.... Dubbed D for Defective.

Can't speak for others but I rather have bought a vanilla 4090 than the China version cards coming with the bundled Golden coin.

I wonder how much extra the Chineese gamers have to pay for the Golden coin. The price for the Golden 4090 Disgusting card is close to $2200 USD.

AMD prepare for 4080 Super. What you see is probbaly max prices forwards. But you are sure you have peeked on the right AMD card? Isn't fancy colors more inline with the RGB trend nowadays?😁 Yup, it could be your Sugar baby, LOOL

Bro Electro..... Jumping on the trend.

Well, still no CPU. USPS keeps "parking" it at different places for several days for no reason that I can identify. It sat in NY for several days, then moved to the Phoenix hub and sat there for three days, and now it is in transit to my local post office (finally). It looks as though I might have it tomorrow. So, for now I finished the build using a dual core Celeron from my spare parts stash as a temporary placeholder. Cable management wasn't as difficult as I expected, but this isn't a ridiculously small chassis (thank goodness). I am using a sheet of indium cut to the size of the IHS and the Celeron stays under 40°C with a load test, LOL. That will  leave me with no thermal paste to clean up when the 13900KS from Sweden is delivered. I will use it in the midget PC for a while then delid it and move it to one of the Apex machines to run bare die, then put the lowest SP quality 13900KS into the midget PC. This is the motherboard I purchased from Brother @electrosoft. It finally arrived today. Not sure what the deal is with USPS, but they're really messed up right now. They suck more than I have ever seen them suck before. Our tax dollars hard at work. Thanks, Brandon.

I've got more messes to clean up with the big Dark Base Pro on a wheeled platform down below. Will have to figure out how to manage the extra stuff next weekend, but everything is connected and working in spite of the wiring and tubing rat's nest.

Just for giggles... nice temps from both cores, LOL.
