Interesting. Reading articles and posts I was under the impression that with a good pump there is so much flow that any bubbles would get blown off surfaces and captured by the coolant. People are talking about the flow being so fast that the bubbles are almost impossible to see in the tubes due to their velocity. It’s easier to see why trapped air would be more of a problem in a block though. @Papusan time to rethink those black tubes bro?

Tiny little bubbles traveling through a loop that hasn't been in use long enough for them to go away (new system or freshly reassembled) is normal and will generally take care of itself. It is similar to how bubbles in carbonated water will go away on their own. The air from the millions of tiny bubbles will end up accumulating in a larger bubble situated in the highest point in the loop. If the system is built in an ideal manner, the highest point will be the top of a reservoir or a section of tubing higher than anything else in the loop. Ideally, a reservoir will be the highest point, and then you can top it off and have no measurable amount of air in the system.

What will sometimes not resolve itself without user intervention is an air pocket. Water flow may not be enough to eliminate the air pocket unless you temporarily change orientation of the component where the air is trapped.

Orientation makes a difference. In a horizontal motherboard installation getting a large air bubble trapping in a GPU block or CPU block is less common than a traditional vertical position because the inlet and outlets to the block are "up" and air goes up. In a vertical installation if you have a CPU waterblock with the inlet and outlet ports on the left and right it is more common to get a trapped bubble in the block. If the inlet and outlet ports are one above the other it is less common. It is common for the outlet to be above the inlet port, with the inlet centered on the CPU core and the outlet above that. This is ideal. The air exits the block naturally in that port arrangement. Same is true for an AIO block/pump. If you have the ports above the CPU in a vertical motherboard installation it is less likely. If the lines enter from the side or bottom, you're going to have air trapped in the AIO pump/block unless you lay the case down on its back or turn it upside down so the bubble can escape.

This is not difficult to resolve. It usually involves nothing more than temporarily changing the orientation of the case. The key is being able to see that you need to do something. Otherwise, ignorance is bliss.

I have started the exchange process for the defective CPU from NewEgg. Will see what I get back. If it is better than the one from Amazon I will keep it and return the one from Amazon. If not, then I will keep going until they either give me a refund or send me a CPU that is not a below average piece of dung.

I tested it with an Indium sheet and CPU frame, so it has no visible evidence of installation. No thermal paste and no scratches from the Intel ILM.

Dang that is a shame about the CPUs. I've had a few 14900Ks.

I currently run 2 SP98s in my rigs. My first chip was SP94 and was actually a very good chip with a great IMC. My second was SP98, then I got an SP96, and my last chip was another SP98.

I still have the SP96 in my closet lol.

If the Amazon replacement is crap and ends up getting returned, I might be interested in buying the SP96 if you want to sell it. I will know sometime tomorrow if the replacement is trash or acceptable.

Only 400 l/h less with an AIO. What's not to love? My little munchkin PC with the 360 AIO is an efficient heat pump. I don't know how many BTUs it puts out. Just think of all the people in the world don't have a way to keep warm in the winter.

I changed my mind on the whole AIO thing. Maybe I’d use a AIO for cooling a SSD drive but that’s about it. 😂

It’s going to be even crazier when I move though. I’m thinking about putting the chiller under the home and drilling holes in the floor with quick disconnects on a small steel floor panel. I think it would be awesome. You wouldn’t hear or see the chiller.

If I do keep it in the room I’m not sure how I’ll set it up. I just want it looking nice and neat.

That is an awesome idea actually. Either that or add a small enclosure right outside your computer room and have dedicated lines running to it for your chiller. Silent and keeps all heat out of the room too.

We had the option of going with 4BR or swapping the 4th bedroom for an open family room which will be my office. So there is no door. So the room is always open for air flow to the hall way or mud room. I had the chiller in mind when picking this just in case I leave the chiller in the room lol.

The 1st pic is a picture of my new office room below, not the actual house we bought, but it is identical to what we ordered. No door, so no trapped heat. 😃 and the laundry room in the 2nd pic right next to it, which I am hoping the heat will bleed off to and in the hall way. It’s gonna be great I think.

Ever since going chiller only it has really been nice. It’s 100% reliable, no radiators or extra fans. And it doesn’t use too much extra power. I don’t really need the 15C water, so I may step up to 18 or 20C. Since I also have a 10 gallon buffer tank, my water temp stays super accurate within like +/- 0.3 to 0.6C at all times whether chiller is on or off.

It’s not very fun moving them or setting it all up again though.

Hey you hear about possible future Xbox consoles going with Intel for chips and not AMD?

Yeah. Costs. AMD is designing a custom chip for Sony and is asking for much more per chip. Sony doesn't seem to care (weird). Intel may give them a great APU that can go beyond rasterization and ray tracing. Both AMD and Intel are building APU's that center on AI...... Nvidia is again pricing themselves out of any consideration.

The one thing I fear is that AMD and Intel are going to focus more on AI with their next gen of products (Consoles and Graphics Cards), rasterization and ray tracing may suffer. Leaving Nvidia as the only choice again.

Yeah, that is a really good idea. I agree. The reason I do not run my chiller 24/7 is because it puts out too much hot air. That problem would be eliminated and probably better in terms of prolonging the life of the chiller.

i do wonder why those chillers (presumably) don’t have optional exhaust pipes, they are basically portable aircon units.

If that first picture will be your computer area, I could still see running a few lines through the lower wall/panel right outside and placing a small enclosure out there for your chiller.

They really should. Portable AC units do. Instead of the evaporator cooling air blown through it, it cools water pumped through the evaporator.

Mr. Rossman thinks the way a lot of us do. It is absurd and unfortunate that product fanboys defend trash, and it's why the minority we are part of have to put up with garbage. Between fanboys defending incompetence and stupid consumers not having the ability to recognize it, that makes us appear to be the problem for having what they dismiss as unreasonable expectations. It's comical seeing fanboys (overclock.net) defend the defective 14900K CPUs that I am returning because they are of totally unacceptable quality and unfit for distribution. I don't care if the product is made by Intel, AMD, NVIDIA or some other company, we should call the balls and strikes and show no mercy in terms of rejecting their bottom-of-the-barrel garbage product samples. Return it and let an idiot that doesn't know any better use it, or let the retailer remove it from circulation (the right choice). Not my problem and I'm not using my money to pay for trash. Poor bin quality only victimizes end users because they sell the defective garbage for the same price as the average and better samples.

I terminate employees routinely that deliver below average performance. And, they deserve it due to poor performance. Some of them are nice people, but the employer and its patrons spending money deserve something better than below average. There is no reason to treat an inanimate product better than a human being.

I have not kept up very well lately. Is the 14900k subpar? Does anyone have one in the forums here? Being a somewhat loyal AMD guy, I've been used to subpar cpu's for a number of years. I guess I've been kind of that way since the K6 days. The last Intel system I built goes way back to the Pentium III Era.

Mr. Rossman thinks the way a lot of us do. It is absurd and unfortunate that product fanboys defend trash!

Between fanboys defending incompetence and stupid consumers not having the ability to recognize it, that makes us appear to be the problem for having what they dismiss as unreasonable expectations.

Some even defend that "newer has to be better". Always. Or is it opposite bro @ryan ?😁

How much more FPS will you get with the newer?🙄

Yup, we can continue talk about newer has to be better. One thing for sure.... They won't get a dime from me. And I am one of those targeted that use benchmark software more than most others. Good luck. This subscription will fail. A hard crash..

Controversial benchmarking website goes behind paywall — Userbenchmark now requires a $10 monthly subscription

As far as we can tell, the benchmark itself isn’t particularly remarkable. It uses basic libraries from Windows and open-source software; if Userbenchmark is skewing performance results, as many critics claim, it’s probably done on the website rather than the testing software. The value proposition for a $10 monthly subscription doesn’t seem to make much sense, and it’s unlikely there will be many customers when there are benchmarking apps that don’t ask for a subscription, like 3DMark.

Nothing wrong with the 14900K. The problem is that Intel doesn't bother bin their chips properly. All trash bin going to their flagships chips. Lower end bin quality should be used for i7 or a scaled down 14900K ---- 14850K.

They really should. Portable AC units do. Instead of the evaporator cooling air blown through it, it cools water pumped through the evaporator.

I agree with @electrosoft, nice place @tps3443. How close is the place to being ready for move-in?

Should be moved in by June. Still gonna be a while. They have to build the home which takes a couple of months, we will close next month. But then they to clear the lot and have it set up on the land. I have some months ahead of me still.

What @Papusansaid. The range of "acceptable" is too broad and includes too many samples that are us such poor quality they are nearly unusable due to extreme low quality silicon that needs tons of voltage. These should be culled and sold at a lower price, or relabeled as an inferior product. Normal price should only apply to those in the median/average range and higher. The silicon lottery should net you nothing, ever, below median/average when you buy the flagship model of anything. This should apply and be legally required of Intel, AMD and NVIDIA.

What can this Zotac GTX 970 4GB really do in 2024?
