It is getting harder to sustain the passion for overclocking because hardware is being too dumbed down because of it being geared for the point-and-click gamerboyz and not particularly good for (sometimes terrible, or even incapable of) overclocking. 1 Wraith // Z790 Apex | 14900KS | 4090 Suprim X+Byksi Block | 48GB DDR5-8600 | Toughpower GF3 1650W | MO-RA3 360 | Hailea HC-500A || O11D XL EVO Banshee // Z790 Apex Encore | 14900KF | 4090 Gaming OC+Alphacool Block | 48GB DDR5-8600 | RM1200x SHIFT | XT45 1080 Nova || Antec C8 Spectre // Z790i Edge | 13900KS | 3090 Ti FTW3 | 32GB DDR5-8200 | RM1000e | EK Nucleus CR360 Direct Die || Prime A21 Raptor // Z690 PG Velocita | 13900KS | 2080 Ti | 32GB DDR5-6400 | RM1200x SHIFT | EK Nucleus CR360 Dark || Praxis Wetbench Half-Breed // Dell Precision 7720 | BGA CPU Filth+MXM Quadro P5000 | 4K Display | Sub-$500 Grade A Refurb | Nothing to Write Home About Mr. Fox YouTube Channel | Mr. Fox @ HWBOT The average response time for a 911 call is 10 minutes. I don't disagree. It even makes the point of what I posted. It might be a sweet product for a gamer, but it's a product unfit for my purposes and something incapable of delivering the experience I am looking for. They should not put me in the same category as gamers and shouldn't try to sell me a product that will fail at what I am looking for it to do. And, they shouldn't expect me to be happy with what they are offering unless they are ignorant or being deliberately deceitful. 1 Wraith // Z790 Apex | 14900KS | 4090 Suprim X+Byksi Block | 48GB DDR5-8600 | Toughpower GF3 1650W | MO-RA3 360 | Hailea HC-500A || O11D XL EVO Banshee // Z790 Apex Encore | 14900KF | 4090 Gaming OC+Alphacool Block | 48GB DDR5-8600 | RM1200x SHIFT | XT45 1080 Nova || Antec C8 Spectre // Z790i Edge | 13900KS | 3090 Ti FTW3 | 32GB DDR5-8200 | RM1000e | EK Nucleus CR360 Direct Die || Prime A21 Raptor // Z690 PG Velocita | 13900KS | 2080 Ti | 32GB DDR5-6400 | RM1200x SHIFT | EK Nucleus CR360 Dark || Praxis Wetbench Half-Breed // Dell Precision 7720 | BGA CPU Filth+MXM Quadro P5000 | 4K Display | Sub-$500 Grade A Refurb | Nothing to Write Home About Mr. Fox YouTube Channel | Mr. Fox @ HWBOT The average response time for a 911 call is 10 minutes. Mr. Fox
I am thinking about using a 12V automotive 10 or 12 inch radiator fan with a shroud on one of my 360x360 radiators. Has anyone here ever tried something like that? They are fairly low amps, push between 800-1200 CFM and can be speed regulated by an in-line PWM knob controller. Looks like you can get a decent one for under $30, which is far less expensive than buying 9 (or 18 for push/pull) 120mm fans. If it works well I will do the other 360x360 radiator. Thoughts? I already have a large sheet of black PVC plastic that will make a decent shroud. https://www.amazon.com/Electric-Radiator-Cooling-Mount-Unversal/dp/B014KK7Q84?th=1 https://www.amazon.com/KeeYees-7-70V-Controller-Switch-Control/dp/B083J3WMND/ Edit - went ahead and ordered this fan and speed controller. I got to thinking about it, and that's all anyone had available in the early days of liquid cooling. They even used car radiators and transmission coolers. I expect it is going to be vastly superior due to the gigantic increase in CFM, but only one way to find out. I had a 10,000 BTU portable AC unit that I purchased for laptop benching around 2008 or 2010, and my wife gave it to one of my sons without asking my permission. 😠 Mini-split is permanent, not portable. It has the evaporator in the room on the wall and the condensor is placed outside like a central AC unit, but only smaller and just for one room. We had one in our master bedroom upstairs when we lived in Kennewick, WA and it was fantastic. 4 Wraith // Z790 Apex | 14900KS | 4090 Suprim X+Byksi Block | 48GB DDR5-8600 | Toughpower GF3 1650W | MO-RA3 360 | Hailea HC-500A || O11D XL EVO Banshee // Z790 Apex Encore | 14900KF | 4090 Gaming OC+Alphacool Block | 48GB DDR5-8600 | RM1200x SHIFT | XT45 1080 Nova || Antec C8 Spectre // Z790i Edge | 13900KS | 3090 Ti FTW3 | 32GB DDR5-8200 | RM1000e | EK Nucleus CR360 Direct Die || Prime A21 Raptor // Z690 PG Velocita | 13900KS | 2080 Ti | 32GB DDR5-6400 | RM1200x SHIFT | EK Nucleus CR360 Dark || Praxis Wetbench Half-Breed // Dell Precision 7720 | BGA CPU Filth+MXM Quadro P5000 | 4K Display | Sub-$500 Grade A Refurb | Nothing to Write Home About Mr. Fox YouTube Channel | Mr. Fox @ HWBOT The average response time for a 911 call is 10 minutes. Talon
Got a free GTX 980 Ti Strix OC edition with Samsung GDDR5 modules. Was told it had a corrupt vBIOS and would not load/flash. Well the vBIOS is fine and it's still on defaults. Also was never touched/opened. So I think it just finally gave up. It works and then it doesn't work. Randomly will just crash games/quit benchmarks. Sometimes corrupt, sometimes not. I game on it for a bit last night after I cleaned it up, and repasted it. It passes TimeSpy Stress Test, but then won't randomly won't. Seemed better when I maxed out voltage slider. I wonder if I use a higher voltage setting it might limp a long awhile longer. Could just be a bit degraded at stock voltage given it's age. When I opened it up I saw an inductor that looked broken. I think those are actually allowed to have some scratches/chips from the factory from what I read so maybe not that. Should I bother attempting to get this fixed or just shelve it as a nice decoration lol? I sort of want to fix it for some reason. Papusan
On 5/3/2024 at 6:06 PM, Papusan said: See you as gamert boy.... so 6.2GHz... More you want? Intel plays with the name and the data: The “Intel Baseline Profile” becomes “Intel Default Settings” Intel don't want that you can use their 6.0Ghz two cores gamer-boy profile anymore. And expect the same for the 6.2Ghz bragging factor for their KS scam. What else do we know? Iccmax and Iccmax.app are at least still set to 400A and 320A in the Extreme Profile. However, after applying the Intel Baseline profile, the time in which, for example, Intel Thermal Velocity Boost can reach 6 GHz on the Intel Core i9-14900K drops to less than 3 s. This means that the Turbo Boost of the Intel Core i9-14900K is on So it ends up being just a kind of gimmick, useless in practice and just for marketing. The Intel Baseline Profile for the 13th and 14th processors de facto puts the K series on the same level as the non-K series and the motherboards of all levels are practically put on the same level because of these extreme performance data are no longer needed. Intel Baseline Profile cannot solve the problem of 13th and 14th Gen processors, but instead creates greater trouble for motherboard manufacturers and consumers. Problems with Intel 13th and 14th Gen desktop processors on the Raptor Lake-S and Raptor Lake-S Refresh platforms are becoming more and more troublesome. At this stage, we only feel that Intel has left all the problems to the motherboard. The factory never suspected that the problem was with its own processor. As Taiwanese people say, Intel Baseline Profile makes Intel Core i9-14900K a three-second hero! Yup, the two cores max boost with all too much voltage (trash binned by Intel) is an three-second hero Joke. It will be so when you use trash bin quality for your flagship products. However, casual gamers will likely flock to the display's impressive specs and affordable pricing. https://www.techspot.com/news/102011-msi-new-monitors-cause-uproar-reddit-over-firmware.html On 2/25/2024 at 8:37 AM, Mr. Fox said: That's just absurd, LOL. Why would they even care? I do not think that I have ever updated firmware on a monitor once in my entire life, and if the monitor is working correctly I cannot identify a reason anyone would lose any sleep over something so dumb. I mean, what is broken that they are hoping to fix? Nothing? OK then, no reason for them to ever update the firmware. Ever. Stupid. Todays tech looks more and more like a tragic drama.... This below is taken from the link I posted to @Talon Those that bought the $50 cheaper versions won't get any love from MSI due their greedy and disgusting tactics. All hardware should come with an opportunity to upgrade firmware to fix own trashy engineering/cheapo solutions. The change-log follows. FW.010 Firmware update information DSC switch added to the OSD to enable DLDSR and DSR modes. MPG 271QRX QD-OLED: Added HDMI PC/Console switch in the OSD. (MPG 271QRX QD-OLED default setting is "Console" mode.) Support for a variety of aspect ratios, MPG 321URX QD-OLED allows selection between a 24.5" and 27" option, MPG 271QRX QD-OLED allows 24.5". Fixed Color Gamut clamping while HDR is enabled. HDR mode will now store separate present mode settings. Optimized multiple language issues. Fixed image flicker issue when VRR is enabled. Added "Power LED" switch in the OSD to allows users to turn it off. Input lag and latency optimization. Fixed problem with white line during 2560x1440 @ 360 Hz. (MPG 271QRX QD-OLED only). Fixed displayed abnormal (dark screen) after VRR switched. Optimize a behavior of panel protect while protect completed that depends as executing power states. League of Legends receives controversial Vanguard anti-cheat, Windows 11 now requires TPM 2.0 Riot denies reports of bricked PCs and clarifies its anti-cheat strategy... Intel reportedly demands all board partners implement Intel Default (Baseline) Profile by May 31 — company hopes to fix issues with "some" Core i9 chips Hmmm. People seems to forget that Intel will offer much higher OC headroom now for their audience😆 From 5.1Ghz and up to 6.0Ghz is more like wopping 17% oc head room. Many years since we saw Intel offered this much. Also genious cripple the performance for the KS so next gen looks prettier on paper. All this drama because they went idiotic in the binning game. See yourself... "Some" Core i9 chips. That mean Intel had to destroy for the waste majority of gamer boys and girls that don't overclock their hardware. They often go after highest possible clock-speed witthout have to overclock. At least you get above 5.0GHz out of the box from Intel now. The 6.2GHZ boost will turn into 5.1Ghz tragedy if they will implement settings as rumored. Not a problem for oc'ers but those are in minority. The majority of gamer kids will get castrated processors. Intel want to set up a basic profile with a PL1 at 125W, a PL2 at 188W and an Iccmax at 249A. Clearly, if this is done as suggested, Intel will slash the performance down the drain for their processors. This is worse than expected. Much worse. This means Intel know very well there is some trash binned Core i9 out there. And RMA and sinking reputation cost money. On 2/25/2024 at 8:45 AM, Papusan said: Main point.... No one should lock you out from flashing whatever firmeware you want. You have paid for the product. You yourself should be able to do whatever you want with your hardware. If this is the direction MSI want "for you" forwards... Then you know the outcome. And that's not a good thing. Edit. You remember the black screen issues with AW and Clevo screens? How would it be if you couldn't flash new firmware? You was fully locked oth the way MSI want. That's disgusting. On 2/25/2024 at 7:05 PM, Talon said: Honestly, monitors just aren't the same basic plug n play anymore. Features are constantly being added to hardware and it seems to be changing at a rapid pace at times. So personally for me, segmenting a products by allowing one to firmware updates and the $50 cheaper version to not is a shit move and super anti consumer. Exactly. I may prefer my 5800X3D for my use case, but my use case doesnt involve looking for the best CPU benchmarks since I primarily just play games and remote to my VM sandbox's that run my homelab's (48 cores / 96 threads 256GB RAM). Doesnt mean I need to find the best motherboard or cooling since its not overclocking (just tuning for best performance it can run 24/7 ) nor would I tout it as such. The problem I used to see there (and to be fair, not only) is that on one hand they would say overclocking is a niche hobby that virtually nobody does but also in the other hand say overclock to get best FPS in your games. While not mutually exclusive, you probably shouldnt engage in the latter without first picking the appropriate hardware / cooling. Which means you should probably engage the supposed niche nobody does sector of the market. Lastly, I always appreciate your colorful use of language to convey your position regarding products, it makes my life much easier from a moderation standpoint. As I am sure there are a number of vernacular that may be preferred in such cases lol. They also have the "Professionalism Initiative" for the forum, but its selectively enforced. I can go on, but I'd be ranting for days since I surfed there for probably a good 10 years. 2 2 1 Telegram / TS3 / Twitter 2700X to 5800X3D upgrade! With a 10850K cameo! Sadly, we see this same behavior in just about every online venue regardless of subject matter. It feels like almost everyone, everywhere, is defensive, has a axe to grind, and feel compelled to attack (or feel like they are being attacked) whenever a different opinion is expressed. It's a very combative, sad and childish mentality that has become prevalent. Anyone that doesn't fit that zombie sheeple horde clique du jour is niche, extremist or an object of contempt. I do believe it feels that way, but the likely reality is that it is a tiny but vocal minority putting on the dog and pony show and the segment they like to pretend to be niche is sometimes more of a silent mainstream than they care to admit... but it goes against their agenda and narrative. 1 1 Wraith // Z790 Apex | 14900KS | 4090 Suprim X+Byksi Block | 48GB DDR5-8600 | Toughpower GF3 1650W | MO-RA3 360 | Hailea HC-500A || O11D XL EVO Banshee // Z790 Apex Encore | 14900KF | 4090 Gaming OC+Alphacool Block | 48GB DDR5-8600 | RM1200x SHIFT | XT45 1080 Nova || Antec C8 Spectre // Z790i Edge | 13900KS | 3090 Ti FTW3 | 32GB DDR5-8200 | RM1000e | EK Nucleus CR360 Direct Die || Prime A21 Raptor // Z690 PG Velocita | 13900KS | 2080 Ti | 32GB DDR5-6400 | RM1200x SHIFT | EK Nucleus CR360 Dark || Praxis Wetbench Half-Breed // Dell Precision 7720 | BGA CPU Filth+MXM Quadro P5000 | 4K Display | Sub-$500 Grade A Refurb | Nothing to Write Home About Mr. Fox YouTube Channel | Mr. Fox @ HWBOT The average response time for a 911 call is 10 minutes. I cant remember who it was that said this but effectively the idea put forth was that this generations ability to argue without putting the person you are arguing with in the "hate/enemy" category has effectively atrophied. The appears to be more true over time, at least as I continue to observe. Spoiler Not to encourage off topic stuff too long but it also reminds me of a scenario I read in the book called "The Admirals" iirc. Essentially the daughter of one of the principle characters (one of the Admirals that was active in WW2) didnt approve of FDR, stating that he wasnt progressive enough for her to salute him. The Admiral considered this, and stated the following; "Its your choice whether to salute FDR or not, but you will salute your President". This concept would be alien in todays society. Me and you have different viewpoints regarding our use of PC's, just like you may have some differences between yourself and @Papusan in terms of how your approach overclocking, and thats fine. It doesnt need to then become the basis for classifying someone as extreme or beyond recognition. Sometimes a difference is just that, different. It doesnt then automatically mean not worth consideration. I mean, probably here in the next few days ill be posting an update to my desktop scenario to which many at OCN would immediately question why I didnt do X,Y,Z instead of chuckling at making what I have work for me. I have already dubbed it "Doing It Wrong" by my friends if it works out. Basically I have an ITX system with a 1300w PSU and 16 port HBA adapter via NVME lol should be interesting getting the adapter tomorrow. Oh, Im ranting again. I'll stop here for now haha 4 1 Telegram / TS3 / Twitter 2700X to 5800X3D upgrade! With a 10850K cameo!

I'll stop here for now haha Yeah, right on. I have lots of very good friends and relatives that I love very much that have different opinions and ideas. It doesn't diminish my love for them as friends and relatives. I respect their opinion and I am willing to learn why they think the things they think, even if I don't agree with them. I expect the same courtesy in return. What does greatly diminish my respect for other human beings is that mentality that anyone who disagrees is an enemy that is deserving of hatred and needing to be ostrasized and silenced, or ended. People like that are sub-human and they are the ones that are a threat to a decent and peacable way of life. 1 2 Wraith // Z790 Apex | 14900KS | 4090 Suprim X+Byksi Block | 48GB DDR5-8600 | Toughpower GF3 1650W | MO-RA3 360 | Hailea HC-500A || O11D XL EVO Banshee // Z790 Apex Encore | 14900KF | 4090 Gaming OC+Alphacool Block | 48GB DDR5-8600 | RM1200x SHIFT | XT45 1080 Nova || Antec C8 Spectre // Z790i Edge | 13900KS | 3090 Ti FTW3 | 32GB DDR5-8200 | RM1000e | EK Nucleus CR360 Direct Die || Prime A21 Raptor // Z690 PG Velocita | 13900KS | 2080 Ti | 32GB DDR5-6400 | RM1200x SHIFT | EK Nucleus CR360 Dark || Praxis Wetbench Half-Breed // Dell Precision 7720 | BGA CPU Filth+MXM Quadro P5000 | 4K Display | Sub-$500 Grade A Refurb | Nothing to Write Home About Mr. Fox YouTube Channel | Mr. Fox @ HWBOT The average response time for a 911 call is 10 minutes. It is hard to relate to a segment of consumers that approve of that type of approach. It is a very foreign concept to me and difficult to appreciate. The fact that it is so ungodly expensive makes it an even tougher pill to swallow. 1 Wraith // Z790 Apex | 14900KS | 4090 Suprim X+Byksi Block | 48GB DDR5-8600 | Toughpower GF3 1650W | MO-RA3 360 | Hailea HC-500A || O11D XL EVO Banshee // Z790 Apex Encore | 14900KF | 4090 Gaming OC+Alphacool Block | 48GB DDR5-8600 | RM1200x SHIFT | XT45 1080 Nova || Antec C8 Spectre // Z790i Edge | 13900KS | 3090 Ti FTW3 | 32GB DDR5-8200 | RM1000e | EK Nucleus CR360 Direct Die || Prime A21 Raptor // Z690 PG Velocita | 13900KS | 2080 Ti | 32GB DDR5-6400 | RM1200x SHIFT | EK Nucleus CR360 Dark || Praxis Wetbench Half-Breed // Dell Precision 7720 | BGA CPU Filth+MXM Quadro P5000 | 4K Display | Sub-$500 Grade A Refurb | Nothing to Write Home About Mr. Fox YouTube Channel | Mr. Fox @ HWBOT The average response time for a 911 call is 10 minutes.
