The advantage of the Raider 18 is the advanced bios and that you can get a less limited EC through certain channels. It will still not clock memory as high as the GE78 however as it has four SODIMM slots which really hurts memory signal integrity in DDR5 laptops. Even the Titan 18 is not stable above 6000MT with two SK Hynix SODIMMs.

 

I feel like 18 inch models from last year did not get a fair display of potential as many OEMs kept the better technology and configurations in their 16 inch models. Probably the same thing will happen this year because OEMs do not really want to produce 18 inch laptops.

On top of the huge list of other reasons that need not even be mentioned, this unfortunate reality pretty much ruins the slightest chance that anything of special interest will ever surface. The overwhelming emphasis on producing petite, lightweight trashbooks is extremely repulsive to me. It's very unfortunate the industry have chosen to pursue form factors that more or less eliminate any opportunity for them to produce something that is even a little bit special by my measurements. Sad days for PC tech no matter what direction one looks.

These are just a small glimpse of what 2025 has brought us, and this couldn't have been possible without NVIDIA's aid. If you think AMD is able to increase its GPU market share due to 'better' GPUs, then you are wrong. It's simply because NVIDIA's RTX GPUs are almost invisible in the market—not just in Korea but also in various parts of the world.

 

Game devs... What AMD need to do now. $100 lower, is the bare minimum. AMD will never get an better chance than this. They got it for free from Nvidia.

I’d love to see AMD/Intel make a competitive GPU that can compete with them. Intel still has no VR support which is really hurting the ARC B580.
 

Nvidia’s product performance/support is just so good, but damn I just can’t stand them anymore. 
 

I wish AMD would just throw brute size at a GPU concept that’s just overkill and overbuilt . Let it include its own 1KW PSU to power it 😂 massive die that just folds a 5090. That would be awesome.

I think NVIDIA may be self-inflicting more damage than they might have ever imagined. AMD will gain market share selling inferior products that people will begin buying for no reason than they are sick and tired of being ripped off and scammed. I am even leaning that way now. I have hated every AMD video card that I have owned, but right now I feel like I hate NVIDIA as a company as much or more.

 

I am skeptical that AMD will ever make a good GPU that I would genuinely like and be glad that I bought, but there is a decent chance that I will join millions of others in  doing our tiny parts to contribute to the effort of bringing long-lasting financial harm to NVIDIA by purchasing an AMD video card next time. Whatever bad happens to NVIDIA will be a matter of their own devices and more than deserved. It won't have anything to do with AMD apart from being a 'not NVIDIA' GPU. Right place, right time.

 

I honestly do not believe VR support would matter for Intel because it mostly does not matter to most people. Despite being pushed hard at gamers for a very long time, (for many years,) interest has never really taken off. This is a smaller niche and more of a novelty than even overclocking. Too many find it too expensive, unnecessary, inconvenient, and the participants look like dorks to anyone watching them use it. I am not being critical of it, just explaining why I do not believe it matters to most people in the grand scheme of things.

I also most bought a MSI GT77 Titan 13HX, it had a 13980XE/64GB DDR5/ RTX 4080. These are nice machines. But I was worried about the 12GB VRAM. I know their cooling is elite, and I love the way they look. It was $2,150 USD, and I ended up passing on it though. I really wanted a 4090. And these Titan’s with 4090’s are still too much money. 

 

Yeah that's the perfect resolution for that panel.

 

I remember when I had the 4k option for a P870DM laptop with the desktop 980 and it was huffin and puffin to render games properly. That was my first and last 4k laptop panel. Now it is always 1080p or 1600p.

 

I''ve tested numerous Acer laptops. Outside of their thin and light models, they are built like a tank and usually have good cooling and loud af fans.

Watching Best Buy this morning and 5070ti's sold out (all 4 of them they offered), but it wasn't immediate and the last model, the $970 Gigabyte OverPriced Edition, took almost 40 minutes to sell out.

 

Lack of common sense kicking in again.....

 

NE has the 5070ti MSRP models ($749.99) on the Shuffle today.

VR is massive @Mr. Fox . It’s taking over honestly, walk in any Walmart and you can buy a Metaquest. Seems to me like every young kids mind from here to across the world where they either have already, or want a MetaQuest VR headset for Christmas. It’s essentially a game console by its self. Many of them are Standalone headsets with their own built in hardware to render games. Some are standalone and require a PC though.
 

We even have two Steams. “Steam” and “Steam VR” 

 

VR support is a big deal though. It’s really holding back the Intel Arc B580, because many people want to hook up their VR headset to the PC. And let their GPU render in a more powerful with higher graphics quality. 
 

AMD sucks at VR support, but they are getting better. And Intel is completely nonexistent.

Okay GREAT NEWS! Nvidia just launched PRIORITY ACCESS for gamers to obtain a 5080/5090! You have to have a GeForce Experience app created before 01/30/2025, and you can sign up to receive a purchase link for the cards which are supposed to go out next week. This is amazing NEWS! Hopefully it works out well.

I personally think retailers need to stop selling the 5080/5090 completely. They are all going to scalpers. 

Right when I throw in the towel, Nvidia pulls this crap... If I get a link, I am buying one for sure!

@electrosoft One of my last laptop's in 2017 was my first ever gaming laptop which costed me $1,780 USD Aorus X17 with a 7820HK/GTX1070 8GB. This machine was AMAZING. Build quality was fantastic! It was fast! I could undervolt and overclock it. The GTX1070 rivaled the GTX1080 machines easily. But it was 4K and I hated how sluggish it was for a GTX1070. Games looked AMAZING, but ran like a slide show sometimes. It did okay in most titles with 30-50 fps. But after I got my Clevo 15" machine in 2018 which had an Intel 8086K/GTX1080 MXM, and it was 1920x1080@120Hz which blew through every game. 2018 marked the first time I ever experienced 120Hz and it was on a 15" DTR Laptop. I loved the machine so much, I cannot count how many hours I put in to playing on that thing. My current thought process was that my current desktop 4090 crushes 4K with 80-120+ fps almost always. But, with a laptop 4090 I am losing half of my performance at least, right? So, I cannot see driving a 4K panel with a laptop 4090 and going to 40-60fps in 4K lol. I think it would make the machine feel very slow. So, the Mini LED 2560x1600 was the driving factor behind my purchase, and probably the 2K price tag pushing me over the edge. Even though the machine may not be as good as an MSI Raider. I just cannot cope with traditional IPS panels with back light bleed, it drives me crazy. And 4K was something that I did not want again after my first laptop experience. Even though I know perfectly well how good that MSI 4K Mini LED panel is. It has been a long time since using a laptop. Over 5 years now I suppose. So, I hope I like the machine. Fingers crossed. I do hate that the bios is locked down though and no undervolting can be done. Sometimes we have to learn the hard way, I am stubborn like anyone else lol. But, I wanted to stay within a tight budget on getting a last gen laptop just in case I wanted to sell it and get another one. I do not care about overclocking it, I mainly just want decent temps and smooth performance.

Looks like they are going to try to cram a 5070 Ti up everyone's tailpipes. It seems like an inordinately aggressive marketing campaign is playing out for something that isn't very special. For many that will be a big upgrade over whatever antiquated or under-spec'd low budget setup they are updating. But, it just feels kind of scummy that the middle-ground mediocre belly-button mama's boy GPU is sucking all of the air out of the room.

Edit: Well this card definitely has some overclocking room. I will stay that much.

The ones that were supposed to be marked at 749.99 were indeed 749.99 and they took a loss in doing so. They had cards in a few ranges below 950.00. Mine was 999 though. You can thank tariffs and how much MC paid for the cards for the price increase, but MC talked it over with corporate and went ahead and lowered certain cards back to what they were set for MSRP. Those cards sold around 5:30 am this morning. I was there for something else and they were like you missed it. LOL Then I came back for some other parts and one of the guys said a truck just showed up. So I asked and they gave me a voucher. Told me they only had the Tuff card. I said i'll take it for now. The guy behind me was like...Wait, what, they have cards. And quickly bought one.

Edit. The 5070 Ti TUF gaming OC is $973 here home without the 25% Norwegian tax. The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 5070 Ti AORUS Master is for comparison $1023 without the 25% Norwegian tax.

You are forgetting. Companies are in the market to make money, not break even my friend. So they have their own base markup price. This seems to be the part everyone keeps forgetting about.

MSRP is also on a sliding scale. due to what is going on in the world. And people selling these things are not going to just constantly take a loss to please the masses. They have people to feed as well.

 

@Papusan I had quite the conversations with people in the know today and it was a bit enlighting. Also, Santa Clara store is on hold because of the city not honoring something the store had in place before they bought the building back.

I know. And I see it in the stores here home compared to other countries. What I meant... Is the $999 price also the same on the Asus US store? And from what I mean, MC don't increase over Asus store prices.

And now you understand why they are taking a loss. This may change in the near future, but those people that were able to buy at MSRP or near price were really happy.

From what I see... Asus increased the prices for the 5090's upwards after the tax was preached (Astral went up quite a lot) and that is reflected in the Asus estore prices. Then expect the higher prices also should be included for the lower end SKUs.  

 

Maybe I'm wrong. But I think the prices is with the preliminary tax on Asus estore. So MC should be on same level.

Now just is not a good time to spend money on computer stuff. Everything is a poor value, much of what is being sold is garbage and the desirable parts are either not available or marked up 50 to 100% more than their actual value, and marked up more than that with scalper scum.  It is happening only because people buying at those crazy jacked up prices are cooperating and allowing themselves to get screwed. Everyone is in business to make money, but not all businesses are on a mission to screw everyone dumb enough to go along with their price gouging program. Businesses that take it up a notch or two and charge the maximum amount that stupid people are willing to pay do not deserve to remain in business. The world would be a better place without them and the stupid people they call customers.

 

I could easily sell either of my 4090s for more than what I paid for them, but I wouldn't have enough money to buy something equal or better. I'd have to add more money or downgrade, or both add money and downgrade.

This goes for pretty much everything so everyone is pretty much stupid in today's world of buying anything not made by onesself.

Nice be the lucky one  getting new cards. Return to sender then you need to "return back to the the queue" and hope you get new card within next 16 weeks. Maybe you get lucky a second time? What next?

TechPowerUp has discovered that there are NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 graphics cards in retail circulation that come with too few render units, which lowers performance. Zotac's GeForce RTX 5090 Solid comes with fewer ROPs than it should—168 are enabled, instead of the 176 that are part of the RTX 5090 specifications. This loss of 8 ROPs has a small, but noticeable impact on performance. During recent testing, we noticed our Zotac RTX 5090 Solid sample underperformed slightly, falling behind even the NVIDIA RTX 5090 Founders Edition card. At the time we didn't pay attention to the ROP count that TechPowerUp GPU-Z was reporting, and instead spent time looking for other reasons, like clocks, power, cooling, etc.

Man, I’ve lost interest in the 5090 unfortunately. Especially one for $3,026 dollars after taxes. I think I burned my self out on it. It just doesn’t excite me anymore.
