in this context, pulled out my suprim yesterday:

here the PSU cable plug, original seasonic that came with my TX-1600 (ATX 2.4 version) and terminating in 2x8pins on the PSU side.

image.jpeg.713cefbab94e35028019e699e088f68e.jpeg

here the gpu socket.

all is well it seems. dont mind the slight discoloration in the upper left corner of the socket, thats actually just a bit of dust (yeah my case needs a bit of cleaning 😄) i think in total ive unplugged this cable maybe twice now....? so "should" be good to be used for a third time, which will likely be its last until i get my hands on a 5090.

Thats awesome. I unplugged mine again as well for a video I made lol, and I’ve got to move the system to my new Lian Li V3000+ case which means another unplug coming soon. I was hoping to build with a 5090, but these are tough times for sure. And those things are just too expensive and unobtainable. I’ve really come to terms with keeping my 4090. I might snag a 5090 after no one is interested anymore.

Not a shocker from GN😁 He call it what it is. Almost 1/2 hour with ranting. And he is spot on.

And the modern tech trend continue. Now it's AMD in the spotlight. With their Ryzen (X3D) processors. Right in time before the bigger brothers is about to launch.

https://wccftech.com/amd-ryzen-7-9800x3d-now-experiencing-widespread-cpu-failure-incidents/

For now, AMD has acknowledged the problem, but Team Red has yet to make an official statement. It isn't confirmed whether the DOA issue exists for many SKUs in the market, but the affected units are indeed in decent numbers

Asus need some sales. You won't find the newer gen cards available, so Asus are very happy to help you out. With cards released in 2021.

Nothing is too crappy for gamers. I've never viewed X3D as anything more than a joke. This isn't the first time we have seen their glass hammer CPUs shatter.

Asus start offer their "fanboys" great deals. No scalping price on top their already sky-high inflated prices. Nice.

Hmmm. Does this means Asus won't push the prices further up in US ? Only in other regions of the world? Isn't their ROG cards already 50% above MSRP? I don't grasp it. 50% inflated is still inflated prices. Maybe I'm wrong? image.gif.fe90fce5eae95a8aa1b32f3e32219957.gif

No matter how you look at it, continuing to try and implement systems that prevent scalpers from snatching up all the product for true users is a positive.

Asus is going to charge these prices regardless of whether scalpers snatch up the products or not.

The prices are here to stay and hopefully do not go higher in the short run to then set a buffer to "discount" them in the future when the market normalizes (which is already is slowly).

Of course selling directly cuts out reseller pricing and allows Asus to keep that extra bit of profit too so it is definitely not a 100% altruistic act on their part.

But still a right move for those who truly want a card to use.

And, whether they will actually deliver on what they say they are going to do remains to be seen. Sometimes companies find they can say whatever makes people happy. They earn Brownie points just for saying it, regardless of whether or not they act on it or pretend they never said it. The one thing that remains constant is the fact that if it has ROG or ASUS branding that guarantees it will be uncompetitively overpriced. They believe their own poop doesn't stink and charge as if that were actually true. They sometimes will offer a product unique enough to warrant paying a little extra, (like Apex and Rampage motherboards,) but this is absolutely not true of most of their products. Most of their products are average and offer nothing of value, sometimes less value, than a competitor's products. But they still charge a premium based on their branding. That's really stupid and I feel sad for people that believe they are getting something special when they are not.

No need update nvidia drivers for older gen cards the coming 2 months. Nvidia's main focus from now is on 5000 series blackwell blackscreen cards.

Nvidia 572 new drivers see increased number of RTX 30 and above users report black screens

NVIDIA admits: yeah sorry, our new GeForce RTX 5080 has missing ROPs as well

More SKUs affected, but nvidia say still same low failure rate, LOOL

5300 euros is +$5500 USD here home. For a gaming Jokebook. This is perverse.

Razer Blade 18RTX 5000 notebook with Intel CPU costs up to 5,300 euros

The failure rate would look very favorable if counting percentage of GPU cores produced to GPUs sold that the defect has been discovered. And, they are holding back retail distribution so the number sold is very small. That is an easy way to make the numbers look favorable.

If they counted GPUs sold at retail versus those found with defect and warranty claims the failure rate might not be so favorable.

5300 euros is +$5500 USD here home. For a gaming Jokebook. This is perverse.

Razer Blade 18RTX 5000 notebook with Intel CPU costs up to 5,300 euros

With the Blade 18, Razer now offers Intel CPUs with RTX 5000 in notebooks after the RTX 5000 with AMD CPU in the Blade 16.

NVIDIA Opens Up Pre-orders for GeForce RTX 5090, 5080 & 5070 Ti Laptops

I don't know if I'll ever buy new again for laptops.....the pricing is truly insane for 18" models. I have no problems shifting permanently into perpetual used mode....

Full ROPS, no coil whine on my 5080 FE, purchased for proper $999 retail from BB standing by... 🤣

Not sure where Wccftech got this from but this wouldn't surprise me at all. With everything we have seen from Intel.... AMD etc, everything is possible with new modern tech.

It seems like RTX Blackwell is experiencing silicon degradation, which means that over a period of time, we might see several SKUs pop up with missing ROPs or something even more significant, depending upon the actual issue with NVIDIA's silicon.

"It seems like RTX Blackwell is experiencing silicon degradation, which means that over a period of time, we might see several SKUs pop up with missing ROPs or something even more significant, depending upon the actual issue with NVIDIA's silicon. An important point to note here is that NVIDIA says that their upcoming "mid-range" GeForce RTX 5070 GPU won't be affected by the issue, indicating that Team Green might have resolved the silicon defect, or at least found a workaround."

"seems"

"might"

"depending"

That is outlandish postulating of the grandest scale. How did wccftech even make that (il)logical leap based on what??

And the fact they claim the 5070 won't be affected implies they found the defect on some units.

Have there been reports of some units reporting full ROPs then after X amount of usage the amount drops?

"It seems like gremlins are afoot and might entering locations with known RTX 5000 units and fusing off some of the ROPs at night depending on whether they've been fed after midnight...."

Never fall down the negative FUD trail....know when to pull up @Papusan 🤣

@electrosoft those laptop prices are INSANE!! I feel like MSI is going too far with the $4900 dollar MSI Raider. This pushed me to just go with last gen 4090 laptop after seeing their prices on B&H Photo for the last week or so now. It’s some extreme prices for sure. If I’m spending that much I’d want a MSI TITAN. I miss the days where top end laptops were all SUB 3K. I’ve been out of the laptop world a while.

I bought some fans for my build. I almost went full on RGB. lol. And I might still do it for the outer rad fans. So you can see the purdy lights gleaming through the front and top grill 🤤 🤣

Anyways, I settled on white Lian Li P28 fans. @Mr. Fox these are the quietest highest performance radiator fans. They are non RGB, and they can actually outperform the Phanteks T30, while being quieter.

Noise was top priority for me! I wanted to build a completely silent PC that offers excellent cooling. I’m wanting a change, and I am having difficulty focusing at work with the chiller now that my job is getting harder and harder.

Shopping for fans is really difficult.

Singularity Computers has shipped my dual D5 distro. So we’ll be getting this build under way very soon. What a process this has been. Singularity is a build to order type of shop. I’m a little sad I won’t be building a 5090 in this rig. But whatever, Nvidia sucks after all.

Anyways, these P28 fans link and snap together. And the snaps can even be removed. So linking together 4 fans only needs one wire for powering all fans. you can also daisy chain from 4 fans to another fan. Meaning you could hook up 4 fans on one rad, 4 fans on another rad, daisy chain them together, and run a single wire to your motherboard to power all 8 fans.

Titan is $1.1k more = $5999.99 + tax

Raider is offered with Intel or AMD for the exact same price for the 5090 variants at $4899.99

We are officially in insanity land.....

The price on the Eluktronics Hydroc G2 is better. Its $3300 for a config without SSD, RAM and OS but including 275HX, 5090m and miniLED display. The memory is no longer stacked and has some active cooling so its better built for overclocking this generation. The GPU is a proprietary modular board. No gaurantee of upgrades but it should be less expensive as a spare part than a BGA CPU+GPU board.

I guess if you compare it to a desktop 285K and 5080 its only about a 100% surcharge for being mobile.

This is potentially good news that might finally free us from our unfortunate dependence on Samsung or SK Hynix (China crap) for enthusiast memory needs with Micron being HQ'd in Boise, ID. I am 100% in favor of any opportunity I can find to stop giving money to China-owned companies and to companies that are not China-owned but have their products manufactured in China.

Micron has always been known for producing high quality products, but their focus has been on enterprise and mainstream consumer memory and storage (Crucial brand) rather than enthusiast products.

One thing for sure... Moving production of pc/data electronics over to US will increase the prices. Heavly. What @electrosoft posted below will only be the beginning of the price spirale forwards. Good luck being an computer nerd/enthusiasts. The inflation will increase. That's for sure.

Sad to see prices going the wrong way in "cheaper countries to live" and being at the same level as here at home in one of the world's most expensive countries to live in. We in Norway can barely handle it because of our high salaries. Those with less income will struggle buy anything.

Sometimes you have to crack some eggs. But, it is hard to unscramble an egg. The problem was our short-sighted  government "leaders" in years past that allowed American companies to do business with China and offshore things to enhance profits. That never should have been allowed. Any ties with China should have been forbidden. Technology and information never should have been shared with them. They have never been a trustworthy nation and it was foolish to think sleeping with them (figuratively) would have a good ending. If will have its pain points, but also rewards and punishments will be earned.
