Hmmm.  I got a big box stamped with several Asus stickers. Could that be..... One of the very rare and overpriced 5000 series Nvidia graphics cards?😀

Come on, it's just a graphics card. I think I'm a lot less excited now than when I got the 4090's like  the Suprim and the HOF. The performance boost from the 4090 over the 3090 was just legendary. Not so much this time with the new overpriced refresh from Nvidia. And I won't even use the new MFG feature nvidia bragging about (5070 beat 4090).

What I'm most excited about is seeing if the idiots from the shipping company have trashed the original box. I took a few pictures when I picked up the package in the post office.

Only 5% slower at 1440p and 4k vs 5070ti is fantastic. Once MSRP normalizes (and it will at this tier sooner than later), the 9070xt is just an absolute banger of a card.

AMD marketshare and sales have been bonkers so far overall with the 9070xt.

Opened the box. The 4 small foams in each corners saved the inner box. And as you should know... Asus  offer cheapo glossy thin cardboard boxes. There is no class  with Asus. They go cheap where they can. Even for their flagship products. The box that come with the HOF is 100 times better. It's just a box... But I'm an collector and prefer to take good care of all my products and in an nice box. Cheap or expensive doesn't matter. A good quality box should be minimum to ask for when you pay this amount money for flagship cards...

And for the records... I would be equal happy with a 10 years card. But what I don't like... Pay xx80 prices for xx60 tier cards. Hence you'll never see me buy brand new cards from mid tier class.

Hmmm. Loads of 5070's in the retail  here. Every single of them is massively overpriced. The so called market don't work.

Gigabyte 5070 at $871.65 without tax. Or better say close to 59% above the MSRP. It seems

Nvidia need to ship 10 times as many cards if the prices shall come back to more normal levels... And not only 5070's.

Could someone with an SLI capable motherboard please help me out.

I just found out my W790 SAGE motherboard doesn't have an SLI certificate so I cannot enable SLI on my RTX Titans.

I tried extracting SLI cert from my old AW Area-51 R2 desktop motherboard, but it doesn't seem to work. So I wanted to see if a newer cert is needed (mines from 2014 X99).

if you have Z690 or any modern motherboard that supports SLI, can you dump your DSDT?

To do so, make a clover bootloader usb stick using: cvad-mac.narod.ru - BootDiskUtility.exe

Make the following folder once the usb is done: USB Drive>CLOVER>ACPI>origin

Then boot from it, at the boot menu when it asks you to select OS to boot from, press F4 and it will dump your DSDT file to:

USB>CLOVER>ACPI>origin>DSDT.aml

I want to see if a newer cert makes any diffference. I have 2 X99 certs that I tried injecting and it didn't work.

OR if someone is good at DSDT editing, I can attach mine here along with the guide I am trying to follow.

I messaged ASUS support but highly doubt they will send me a bios update with the SLI certificate.

3060 -> 3090 is a MONSTER upgrade! That's a nice rig setup especially for a 12yr old. He can basically play every title out there comfortably. What are his top 3 favorite games to play? Clearly he likes VR 🤣

His rig kind of sounds like my daughter's new incoming rig: 12900k, 6400 32GB, z790i Asrock Lightning. Only thing in flux is the GPU but it will end up being either a 9070xt or a used 7900xtx at this rate lol.

Still want to upgrade my nephew's rig I hooked him up with simply because he is so kind and still grateful and loves that thing (12100 + A380 w/ 32GB 3600 DDR4 on an Asrock Pro B660M).

Thanks. But see bolded text above. And I'm spot on. Look at this wimpy small stand for the GPU. Can't be used in my big black box. Are Asus stupid?

And where are the screws to mount the radiator for this $3000 graphics cards? Nothing. No short or longer screws (to use fans in push pull). Asus saved 25 cents on this. Even worse than MSI who sent with half of the screws needed for their 4090 Suprim LC card. How is it possible be so greedy? @Mr. Fox

And for the fans. They look cheapo, thin and flimsy. Asus put the few money in make them with white blades.

t29P5tb.jpg

This is what come with the 4090 HOF. Dual hight stand.

Galax-gpu-stick.png

Everything that come with the card is useless. Only for kids/blood fans/sheeple. Why do I need the shiny plastic button with the ROG logo printed on in gold? Why not send with the screws needed instead? And the ruler.... Why do I need that? To measure that the trashy cheapo GPU stand is too short?

Not very happy with what Asus offer here. Greedy MORONS! Galax/KFA2 offer a hell lot more with their flagship graphics cards. Asus is just cheapo and for KIDS.

Nvidia should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for this:

On one hand, the 5070 is 10% less than the 4070 Super MSRP, but damn....

From the 5090 on down (aka the entire 5000 stack), less is more and each step down the performance gains are less and less compared to 4000 vs 3000 but at least Nvidia:

Kept the same price for the 4080 super -> 5080 (after learning their lesson with the original $1200 launch price of the 4080)

Dropped the actual price by 10% for both the 5070/5070ti MSRP vs 4070 Super / 5070ti Super

While 5090 owners get the biggest uplift, it is only ~30-35% AND 5090 owners really took it in the pills compared to the 4090 price wise even FE vs FE ($1600 vs $2000) and then it scales up even worse cost wise.

Still processing even Asus 4090 Strix $2k vs $3359 5090 Astral. Paying ~68% more for ~30-35% uplift.

damn.

I think this is my general lethargy with the 5000 series atm....

It's gotta be an FE or price wise as close as possible to make it make sense.

Gotta agree. I really liked the 4070 Super, and I'll take the 5070 for $50 cheaper, but dang what at tiny improvement. This card needed 16gb and same price and it would have been decent IMO. But same 12gb for the price and tiny improvement is just bad. I still think it's more than enough card for most though.

I sold my 4070 Super for the $600 I paid for it. I managed to snag an MSRP 5070 Ti Prime off Newegg last week to replace it. It overclocks hard and the $749 MSRP ain't bad considering it beats a 4080 Super OC for OC.

Well, I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the Montech AIR 903 MAX for the work PC build. It's not awesome like the Antec C8 or Lian Li Dynamix XL EVO, but for the price it's great. Very affordable. The 140mm fans (four included) are pushing more air than I imagined they would and run very quiet. The Montech Metal 120 fans I used to replace the EK AIO fans are also insane. They seem very well made, have solid performance specs. The only thing they lack is a unified design that connects them together.  But, the RGB and fan cable are combined into one (very nice) and only split apart at the connector ends.

Here are some pics. The one thing that Montech didn't do right is the same stupid issue most cases have. The space above and behind the motherboard needs to be greater.

Above the motherboard there it only has enough room for thin radiators and push fans. No way you can install fat radiators and push/pull. That sucks, but I understand "normal" is their target market and gamerboy AIOs is what 99% of their customers are going to be installing. So, since I am using a gamerboy AIO for this application it's OK. It would NOT be OK with a custom loop. It feels like the entire PC industry is deliberately leaving overclocking enthusiasts up the creek with no paddle with fewer and fewer options to build something we can be proud of.

Behind the motherboard tray it would be nice to have an extra 15-30mm of space. I got the cable management done without a bulge in the side panel, but man it sure was tight. The gamerboys get all hot and bothered by the case taking up too much space.

I think (maybe) I have figured things out with the Gigabyte B850 board. Definitely seems like a firmware issue with voltage control. Setting manual voltage does not seem to function correctly and pushes way too much voltage to the CPU no matter what I set it for and regardless of the LLC settings. Even if I use maximum vdroop it goes up to 1.400V in Cinebench. I have to use "Auto" with a negative offset to pull it back down to a reasonable voltage level.  At any rate, Cinebench scores are right up there with the Gene and Carbon at less than half the cost. And, I can use all three PCIe x16 slots without the GPU getting emasculated to PCIe 5.0 x8.

And, this CPU is better than the one in the Gene. It can handle 2200 FCLK. The other 9950X won't boot at 2200. It caps out at 2175. I am going to have the check the SP rating and see how it works on an ASUS mobo that has better voltage control. That will have to wait for another day. I'll likely wait until the APEX drops and then delid it.

Was it a good deal? MSI 4090 Suprim is literally still top notch performance. You probably won’t have any trouble selling it for more than you paid.

The 5090 Astral looks like a small xx70 class card vs the monstrous creature 4090 HOF.

Hmmm. Nope. It increased the value. Crocs ain't cheap here home😁 And it's time jou buy a pair. And in black😎

What reduce the value of an Asus Astral 5090.... Huang's autograph on the card

QAxMKf4BvJPfGoxrL8rxo8-800-80.jpg.webp

Is  this Nvidia's answer on AMD's coming xx60 class cards? And will gamers buy 8GB xx60 cards in 2025?

Is the hype real or fabricated for the Astral?

I am not sure that I will ever purchase a 5090. Maybe a used one, if ever at all. I haven't heard anything nice or good about 50-series. Too many design defects and engineering flaws for something priced as though it were perfect, and I can't identify a good reason to spend more than the already-retarded prices I paid for 3090 Kingpin and 4090 video cards. I never enjoyed them at a level consistent with the purchase price and I think I would ultimately end up disappointed with the purchase. I think Jensen is too busy enjoying the investor circle-jerk and his gigantic salary and bonuses to give a rat's butt about the people NVIDIA is screwing, or the products he is selling them.

Hummm, had to think about that for a moment.... I was in the store for something else and asked about 50 series cards. They said they had some 5070's and I was like. That's a hard pass. Went to online order line and a manager said John, we know you're looking for a 5090, but we have this 4090 sitting here. Do you want it? I thought for a moment. I was like, sure. Why not. I'll hold onto it for you guys for a few weeks. The actual price on the box was 1745.96 though

Hi bro John. Hope all is well.

Hmmm. Doesn't Asus always do this for all their new products with the ROG stamp? You pay all too much for all too little. Lets talk  about the hyped monitoring feature (power balancing) for the trash connector... Almost useless. With the HOF I didn't need install any software to see if everything was wrong with the connector as with Asus stupid decision.

See also the whole video.

The parts they used for this half baked monitoring feature may cost them $2 USD. And we all know what they want back from the consumers for tiny features. To be safe on your question... The hype is fabricated for the Astral to increase their alrerady high margins. +60% premium over MSRP is pure greed. And certainly not worth it.

But the overall card looks very nice. Doesn't scream gamerboy design. So I like the clean look.
