It would make me happy to see all of the inexpensive models have dismal sales numbers and the AIB partners just start dumping them for whatever they can get for them and then stop wasting time, money and resources making and selling the garbage models that only the peasant kiddos want. AMD should stop offering 9070 and only sell 9070 XT and NVIDIA should only sell 5090 and 5080.

This means only $1000 and $2000 cards from Nvidia. Nothing for the casual gamer on budget. Nvidia could add a 3rd card in the Geforce lineup with 5070Ti tier performance and branded it xx60 for $500. Remember AMD go for mid end or sub $700. Their own words. Anyway, there isn't real competition. AMD will always look at Nvidia when they put their pricing. 3 different tier cards... Thats enough. And MSI even make +15 different theme cards from 5070 series in the mid end. Too much choices. And this should be avoided. That's perverse.

 

 

Edit. This is disgusting.  No place Asus say what type screws you'll need. 99% of small screws sold here home is M series. The closest I can get is M3. Yup, Asus think you don't need screws to mount the radiator in your PC box. What did they save? 20 cent ? Nice. It will probably cost me +$20 for the few screws from abroad. Asus is a disgusting company.

Its unfortunate that now the king of the hill sets the prices for the entire product stack. 
 

Since both are publicly traded, they are legally obligated to seek profits for their respective organizations so even if AMD were to somehow produce 80-90% of the performance for 50% (or less) of the cost they would be obligated to price it accordingly or open themselves to lawsuits from their own investors. 

The only counter argument they could make is a desperate need to gain market share, but they could likely only make that argument for 1 release before investors get itchy for the next fiscal quarter

 

I buy both vendors to suit the needs or desires I have at the time, but I still have my leanings. That being said I remembered this 10-20 second portion of a farewell video which leads to the real problem. Gamers buy nvidia regardless and AMD cant seem to market their products appropriately.

I played a bit of BF 2042 last night and the 9070 XT is boosting to like 3375, most of the time running 3100-3200 MHz. This is with a -0.060 undervolt and +10% power limit. Leaving it on stock defaults it is like 1.100V and rarely boosting to 3000. Definitely need to crack this thing open and see what I can do with the temps. Especially the memory. They've got the wrong pads or something. I haven't seen video memory temps this high since cryptomining with the 3090 KPE.

 

9070 XT handle BF2042 at 4K with maxed out settings without issue. FPS range from about 70 to 120 with an average of around 90 FPS.

good topic to mention, as opposed to the 4090 im definitely planing to pimp up the cooling on the 5090, seeing as our best chance to do overclocking is keeping the card as cool as possible (or shunt modding, which is not an option for me).

in this context i was thinking of going putty all around and also covering the complete backside of the gpu to make use of the metal backplate.

 

in this context i need some input from you bros  @Mr. Fox  @Papusan or anyone else with regards to the gpu core: would u recommend going liquid metal, PTM7950 / graphene pad or a highend paste like Duronaut (just got in a batch of that for testing).

trying to balance cooling performance and the need for maintenance on this one. liquid metal should give the best results, although on the much larger GPU silicon the temp drops shouldnt be as significant as on a CPU i imagine. but with LM ill run the risk of having to repaste after a few months due to dry out. id like to avoid that after having plastered putty all over the PCB 😛 so best to do a one and done kinda deal 😄 

any input appreciated 🙂

At least you are able to mount the radiator. Asus mean you can just mount it with strips. 

 

Rumors but still... Graphics cards is already damn expensive as it is. Can it be worse? This is not a problem if you get your hardware for free or can pay whatever the price will be. 

Graphics card prices to explode in June (+60%)?

 

Maybe a custom 5060@8GB AIB cards will finally catch attention as a good option for +-$600. More like a steal for HW enthusiasts😁 Or Maybe 5070 forwards will be treated as the high end with +$1000 price tag, LOL

I agree with @Papusan and do not think using liquid metal will be very beneficial on the GPU overclocking. This made more sense on laptops that had much weaker cooling systems and run much hotter under the most ideal conditions due to their physical limitations affected by form factor, thermal dissipation capacity, sloppy parts fitment and engineering defects. I think the benefit of liquid metal on a desktop GPU would be negligible in terms of increasing overclocking potential.

 

I am planning to use PTM7950 when I take apart the 9070 XT. That is your best solution to have a one-and-done durable TIM. That may come at a cost of 3-5°C higher temperature with the PTM7950, which is not going to get you very far.

same reason you got urself a liquid cooled card: every little bit helps 😛 😄 especially with the 5090 thats running full tilt right outta the gate. itll definitely help with getting higher bins during oc.

So much for a simple request. Apparently they only make changes to BIOS options when enough people complain that the missing option is a problem. So stupid that the BIOS has no option to disable the onboard WiFi/BT module. I guess that I will just have to disassemble it and remove it since I have no use for either one. It makes matters worse that it is WiFi 7 since there is not W10 driver support for WiFi 7... W11 poop OS is required to use it, which is unacceptable.

You should grab an Optimus pad for your 5090 backplate. You’ll see big temp gains. Less messy than putty.

These will probably sell by end of day, but the first month+, they never even made it to in stock status selling out immediately.

 

Like I said, levels are slowly going to start normalizing sooner than later. The heavy hitters are going to start fizzling out sooner than later and most aren't going to pay these prices. 

 

Pre-builts in stock in abundance on Newegg and Best Buy.....

 

Crapton of over inflated Astrals and other cards languishing on eBay and/or readily available sub $5k now.

5090 Founders sub $4k and falling.....

 

End of April/Beginning of may prediction is coming on strong.

 

I loved my 4090 Liquid, but swapping it for testing into other systems was such a PITA plus I run my rig totally open now so the benefits of direct exhaust are negated.

 

FE = Price + aesthetics

Suprim = MSI and past love

Astral = Top dog monitoring and matches my Hero along with aesthetics

 

I find myself gluttonously leaning towards the Astral now.....MC is over an hour away, so it would be a race to get there before either of the two Astral air cooled models sold out. That's the only one that tickles my fancy (along with an FE or Suprim).

Since this pic, after giving the wifey's system a complete tear down and cleaning when swapping her to the SP109 14900KS, I did the same for mine and put the back rear cover back on for aesthetics but everything else is wide open to the point the heat the 5080 pumps out doesn't even bother my ram even super tight.

Could put 4 x5090 in my basket here home. 28 cards available. I could even put one of 3 Astral LC (not the OC) in my basket. +$500 more than what I paid for the OC LC. You can  find cards but probably not the cards you want. And you have to accept even higher prices if you want the 5090's. These cards below is $3000 cards... From Gainward and Palit.

Market forces will normalize. Like I said, most in the OC thread are getting their 5090s by now. Some even have multiples.

 

Stock watchers I track are constantly going off for 5080s and 5070s like crazy non-stop. Nvidia knows AMD is competition in that sector. 9070xt stock watchers also go off like crazy.

Yup. You can get overpriced MSRP cards if you follow the shops notifications. I paid $3002 USD for my Astral LC OC card with today's currency exchange. So cheaper than the PNY card I showed above. 

 

But don't expect MSRP for 5090. Even if they have them in stock. And Asus will continue with premium for their best cards. The ROG tax is real. You can't change greed.
