9585 in timespy, considering im using stock 3200mhz ram and its technically a 115w 3060 id say im doing good and progressing in getting top place on the leader boards, its fun pushing a system it just sucks when you run out of options to improve performance

Hah back for some advice. I ordered a 4090 FE from best buy for $1550 after tax but it also has 12 months no interest financing with the card.  Trying to decide if I should pick it up or not.  I know I don't need it and that my 3090ti is kicking butt in D4, but I kinda want it. What do you guys think? The biggest bummer would be parting ways with my second to last EVGA card.

Pretty hard to beat for that price, as ridiculous as it sounds to say about paying $1500 video card that isn't anything special. I don't think you'll find one any cheaper than that new. Strike while the iron is hot

Best Buy is the only place left in my area to purchase computer parts. They rarely stock anything that I am interested in purchasing and my only option is online shopping to get what I want. For the most part they sell low- to mid-range gamer crap. After some stuff that I read about them a couple of days ago I'll probably have to scratch them off my list of places worthy of survival and boycott them based on their unacceptably sucky woke business and employment practices. I hope they get the crap sued out of them and end up owing $1B+ in punitive damages and legal defense costs for their poor judgement.

Well, look at it this way.

5090 isn't due till 2025 (Over 16+ months away). With the way the market is going I wouldn't be surprised to see a 4090ti drop fall 2024 and 5090 drop fall 2025. If AI is still running rampant and AMD basically throwing in the towel this gen and next, we may end up with a neutered 5090 at that.

If waiting that long works for you AND the 3090ti is holding it down, you could potentially wait for an even more major upgrade. It's not like the 3090ti is a slouch or anything. It is a fantastic GPU.

Or just enjoy life now and extract even more performance out of your system with a 4090. Sell the 3090ti, ride the 4090 for next year and a half then go through this angst again with the 5090. 🤣

Life is short and should be enjoyed in the here and now as much as possible.

From what I can see in the UK, FE cards retail at a £100 discount vs launch price, and there are AIB 4090s to absolute boot. The reason I provide the reference is that often, particularly around launches, it feels like the UK is the last major economy to get any stock (very surprising after 13 years of conservative governments, and given the astonishing success of Brexit, but I digress). If we see an avalanche of stock here, no worries about the US.

My advice would be: need it? Get it. Don't need it? Relax.

BTW I think there have been some sponsored FUD news being disseminated by certain influencers (hello Jay our old friend) about an impending AI boom of crypto proportions in the Geforce sector, which is mostly nonsense IMHO - the main story is the collapse in demand from gamers.

I know it's really crazy that there isn't one here. I don't understand why either. Makes no sense. They would make a killing and have an absolute monopoly. There's nothing here and nobody to compete with them. I can speculate as to why that is, but I'm not sure that it's relevant here.

It is not only Jay. I am seeing others reporting the same, and they are saying that gaming cards will be the Plan B for a cheaper, but less effective, option for AI. The way I look at it, if it's not that then there will be some other reason invented so that we all get screwed over. We can count on getting shafted. That's just the way things are.  Tech is build on the foundational idea of screwing consumers and enthusiasts alike. The only thing good about it is, ultimately, none of the new tech gizmo crap, including AI, is important, essential or necessary. It would be inconsequential, if not beneficial, that it not even exist or that its advancement fail.

Must be a part of a broader campaign. Predicting the future is hard, but at the moment it’s a buyers’ market, with no economic boom on the horizon. Let’s enjoy that aspect of this situation I guess.

Very nice review and case, thank you. Just two general points:

1. Doesn’t the PSU shroud make it awkward to access the PSU panel? Can it be done without removing any components to get rid of the shroud?

2. I wish cases today had a 120mm side fan, but at least this one has a mesh (rather than glass) side panel? Or is it metal?

Got some major testing to do tonight. I need a waterblock and chiller now. I can't cool 1195mV. The temps go wild way too fast. So now it's a delicate balance between voltage and clocks and temps to not throttle below what 1110mV would have given me.

You can now use this patched Nvflash to flash the old vBIOS to get full 1.1v back on any 4090 card. This also works on 4080 as I just flashed my volts limited 4080 back to full 1.11v.

4090 is the only card worth buy from this gen. You have already a good card from previous gen. Up to you. But 4090 won't be a wrong purchase. If you have the money... There ain't other options for you.

Thank you very much bro Fox🙂 19. Aug here now, so now I'm 58🤯 No special plans for the day. Will visit my papa's grave as usual as the last years. I don't celebrate this day anymore. My papa died suddenly on my 50th birthday. So thats that. But we will eat some good food out.

This is what make me glad this day.... My oldest son is here now (come late 18. Aug). He will follow up our dog the next month. Me and my wife will travel to Islas Canary on wednesday and be there one month. Hence.... More pict for the pict lover @electrosoft😬

Bought two of these below so we can follow whats going on on notebooktalk. My phone is so damaged that I can't use it much for internet anymore. And I will wait to buy a new later this fall.  But we both needed something when we sit outside the pool and lick up the hot warming sun..... FYI. The weather on my birthday... Loads of sun today and the temps will be 27C. Maybe I have earned it.

Ready for some all black crocs @electrosoft?😛

Well.... at least you're not wearing white or red socks with them to really make them REALLY stand out!  🤣

Happy Birthday brother and I completely understand. My father passed away right before Xmas. It has lost a lot of its joy to me and my siblings.

Remember CompUSA? Loved that place! They always had great stuff!

I have lots of great memories of going to CompUSA back in the day. Circuit City was pretty OK, too. The 43-inch HDTV my wife and I got there as a wedding present back around late-2006, early-2007 when HDMI and 1080p were the hot new things is still kicking to this day. It was part of a package that included a free HD-DVD player LMAO.

In addition to CompUSA, we also had a similar store called Elek-tek. That was the place where we got our first Windows-based PC. I found this mail-in order catalog of theirs.

Thank you. I really like it a LOT. Super nice.

1. PSU is super easy to access. The top panel does not come off above the PSU, but the PSU basement side has the removable metal side plate with the RGB strip on it so you have open access to both sides of the PSU and with the bracket attaching it to the rear I/O panel it is super easy to access anything relating to the PSU. Easier than any I have seen. To pop off the PSU basement side plate you just press down in the center by the name "DARK BASE PRO" and unlatch it, then lift it off after disconnecting the RGB connector.

2. The panel next to the motherboard tray with all of the HDD mounting option is easily removable and replaces with a fan/radiator bracket that is included. This is shown in the review material (exploded view) and it is in the big accessory box shown in the video. So you can mount three 120mm fans or fans and radiator in that space.

Got some major testing to do tonight. I need a waterblock and chiller now. I can't cool 1195mV. The temps go wild way too fast. So now it's a delicate balance between voltage and clocks and temps to not throttle below what 1110mV would have given me.

Congrats on the score.

Wow, that's awesome you can set more than 1100mV. What vBIOS is letting you set 1195mV? I need that one real bad. Please share. The Strix 1000W and the Galax 666W vBIOS are limited to 1100mV like all of the others before the gimped firmware release.

Edit: bummer. Looks like that is a 4080 vBIOS. I need 1195mV for 4090.

Yes unfortunately this is a Galax XOC vBIOS for the 4080. 1000w and temp limits removed, true XOC. I have no idea why this is only available for the 4080 and not the true KING 4090. Makes absolutely no sense. My guess is that this was never intended to leak. After Nvflash was patched I've finally been able to flash it and use it. Works perfectly on my TUF 4080 model.

It allows me to set 1195mV which is incredible, but impossible for me to cool that much voltage unfortunately. I am looking into grabbing a block for the card to let it fly a bit. It's a 4080, but at least now I have some real voltage to do some tuning with.

Well I may have finally resolved an issue I was having with my Aorus ITX x570 board, it appeared to be not retaining the BIOS settings after every reboot. Which makes it difficult to get the memory to run at XMP. Read a few places that simply reseating the cable may help, but long term I should probably buy a replacement CMOS battery.

If I had to guess the CPU is either quite degraded from running at 4.2Ghz for the majority of its service or the updated BIOS is not as forgiving. I guess it will be a "stock vs stock" scenario for it and the 5800X3D.

If I were going to place a bet on it I would say the firmware is probably where the problem is and most likely not the CPU being degraded.

Last time I was using it full time it couldnt hold 4.2Ghz any longer, I was doing 4.0Ghz for a while and then it was shelved after I started playing with the 10850K. So far its running XMP just fine with the updated BIOS, just going to run the benchmarks without any manual setup.

I suppose I could always re-flash the BIOS though, shouldnt cause any harm.

Sorry, I meant a 200mm side panel fan. It’s a nice solution because it provides super quiet airflow directly onto the mobo, however, it does obstruct the view of the “bling-bling” inside. Virtually every current PC case seems to have a solid (mostly glass, sometimes metal) rather than mesh side panel. I guess nobody cares about air/AIO cooling anymore lol, not least because custom loops are significantly more expensive which is always good for the industry, but probably mostly due to the gamery aesthetics.
