My new 27-inch 144Hz 4K 1ms IPS ASUS monitor was supposed to be delivered yesterday. Should have it today.

Which one did you go with?

I was supposed to have a water block yesterday from ModMyMods.com. I reached out to them and they were very nice and apologized for the delay in shipment and said it would ship yesterday. They made a shipping label.. They emailed them this morning after no change on FedEx website and was told he personally shipped it for me yesterday and that it should arrive? I am giving them to the end of the day and then requesting my $$ back for their expedited shipment. First time ordering from them and I am less than impressed so far. They do reply pretty quick and are professional, but something just feels off.

Intel Arc graphics can’t play it…. Maybe time to take out the big toy, LOOL

Btw. Nice with brand new modern PSUs you can’t use it with Intel and AMD graphics. You can’t even use it with older nvidia graphics cards. Only enough 8 pins connectors to power the Cpu and the extra 6 pin for the mb. Yep, new is always better, LOOL @ryan

It is interesting to note that the total number of connectors is fairly low for a unit with that kind of capacity

Just greedy or pure stupidity from the engineers. And if you have an modern nvidia graphics card with the 12VHPWR connector you won’t have any 8pins left for possible other use. Tragic.

Nice one for nvidia. Better performance vs 4070 for 100$ less. And AMD will come with their fancy features as well. Can RT save nvidia from not reducing prices? Nope, I don’t think so. Only fanboys can.

I have a 4080 in my daily so not to concerned about 7800xt.

First NV card since the ti 4000 series. I think i broke every version they ever made of those....

It works. AMD dropped ball on raytracing 1 to many times for me. When they get there crap together i'll go back to AMD.

For now though and for my use case 144hz 1440P the 4080 does what I need it to do.

This one... https://rog.asus.com/monitors/27-to-31-5-inches/rog-strix-xg27uqr-model/

$318 from Provantage ($340 shipped) for a $600 monitor is pretty decent pricing. I would not entertain the notion of buying it at the utterly absurd normal price. It is a poor value and not worth it at normal price, but for half price it was hard to resist.

I forced it with Inspector but didn't implement the DLSS mod yet nice.

I am sure continued driver refinements will help everybody (or initial Intel AHEM).

I am using the DLSS mod (Just installed it) with all graphics settings maxed out. Film grain turned down a bit, and motion blur off. PS: Turning off motion blur completely gives a nice FPS bump.

50% resolution slider is balanced DLSS.

67% resolution slider is Quality DLSS.

I am getting like 58-70FPS avg with Quality DLSS 67%, and forced ReBar. Looks great and amazing performance from a tired old 3090 Kingpin. FPS has never dipped below 57FPS, very acceptable for 4K on this setup. Image quality is looking real GOOD!!!

Now, to just understand the game a little better lol.

I know, right? 3090 is still a power house, but the 4090 was Nvidia's answer to such a close contest last gen. It left no doubt who was king this cycle and they didn't even have to bring the full power to do it. Easy coast to 5000 series now in 2025.....

Never think always know and have the data on hand to prove it so when you do performance testing no one can debate the fact that your results are this or that becaesu your probably not stable.......

This is for a 1/1 versus 1/2 battle on non vcache to settle the performance debates.

Dang. Graphics cards is in reality cheap hardware. MB was damn expensive when they launched for Alder lake. Now a new high with the Raptor refresh. Only 15% more expensive with almost no gain.

It certainly feels like it after sitting on top of 8 different motherboards/builds and lots of gaming under its belt. Haha.

Well just wait till 2025 and get the 5090 then you will experience an even more pronounced upgrade than going simply to a 4090.

For example, buddy of mine finally upgraded from his KP 2080ti to a 4090 specifically for Starfield, Hogwarts and TLOU 4k and it was a monster uplift but then here he is wanting an upper tier specimen kicking in instead of just enjoying it out of the box:

He picked up an Asus Strix and it topped out at ~3030 and 2770ish +1100 on mem. He returned it and picked up another. ~3015 and 2785ish and +1000 on mem. Returned it, picked up a Suprim X AC...+2985 and 2750 and +900 on mem. All three blew his 2080ti out of the water even blocked and OC'd. On the Suprim he even used the new vBIOS capability and reverted it back to the 1.10 top and it still blew chunks (and made it sing like a canary).

I told him they're all good out of the box (even the worse 4090 is still a beast at stock) and just block it up like he planned to do but he wants mine. I told him, "sure, $2.2k and it's yours" jokingly and he said he'll think it over but leaning towards wanting it. 🙄

What are we seriously talking about? 5fps? Law of diminishing returns are seriously in effect here. Go pick up the cheapest 4090, block it and then sell your KP 3090 to offset the cost and join us with the top dog till 2025

Or pick up a 7900xtx for a change of pace and get 4090 level of performance in Starfield according to Steve

Steve collecting benchmarks and the 7900xtx holding its own (basically tying or close enough) the 4090 across all settings from 1080p to 4k ultra.

Been testing Frame Generation all day for PureDark.. I had no issues with stability or otherwise after about 6 hours of testing. It's now been greenlit and is released to his patreon supporters/discord if interested. It's an amazing mod that will give you HUGE FPS gains.

BIG MIDDLE FINGER TO AMD and their attempts to block frame gen and DLSS.

That looks really fantastic....oh...and....

"P-Dizzle" and "E-Dizzle" 🤣

Anybody ever tell you that you sound a lot like Bill Hader?

LOL had to laugh at that, HECK of a way to go out with his 4090 blowing up on camera and breaking a world record run 😄

hey bud, im currently also playing around with DDR5-8000, any pointers for stability? GDM disable is a total nogo for me, instant BSOD when i try to boot. VDDIO maxed to 1.58V, VDD(Q) at 1.6, VSOC 1.3, turned down FCLK to 2000 until i figured out stability, VDDP 1.18, loosened timings.

Board matters....especially in asus department atm.....only ones doing 8000 reliably is Gene aka 1dpc.

Giga's in a fairly decent spot with it's 2 dpc boards however even unobtanium tachyon ( actually have 2 but refraining from using for the testing i'm doing atm ) is beating my extreme.

The asrock taichi lite is also doing very well on 2dpc.

That leaves poor mans 1 dpc boards. Msi has no GDM options. I haven't heard anything about Asrock itx doing 8000 yet.

The giga itx we know can do 8000 and it seems the asus itx can to.

Voltage wise less is more. vddp in the 1.0 area......vsoc 1.20-1.25. My vddio is auto (1.3)

uclk requirements in 1/2 are less so vsoc requirements are less......

My new 27-inch 144Hz 4K 1ms IPS ASUS monitor was supposed to be delivered yesterday. Should have it today.

Which one did you go with?

$318 from Provantage ($340 shipped) for a $600 monitor is pretty decent pricing. I would not entertain the notion of buying it at the utterly absurd normal price. It is a poor value and not worth it at normal price, but for half price it was hard to resist.

Wow that is an absolutely crazy good price.

I got it. I am going to have to get used to it. I don't "love it" at this time. I decided to move the 1440p 165Hz Acer to the middle monitor position on my work PC trio. I don't believe I would find one moitor acceptable for work. So, I am using the 4K display with my  benching rig. Probably makes more sense with the 4090 anyhow. The 6900 XT isn't ideal for 4K and 1440p is going to be a better match. ASUS has a knack for making things aesthetically ugly and this monitor is no exception. For some weird reason it is really thick and seems like an 80's-era product. It has some tacky-looking features on the back side, like a big ASUS RGB  logo and weird alien-looking glyph designs. so I am glad the back faces the wall/window. The picture quality is excellent though. Very clear and bright.

Got the 5800X3d installed, wanted to do more tests but I dont want to take too much time away from my certification training that I have been doing the past couple of weeks, think I have about a half dozen titles.

With no tweaks made to the BIOS settings besides max fans and 3200Mhz on memory, the gains versus 2700x is quite substantial. That being said at the moment it does fall behind the 10850K @ 5.0Ghz \ 4400Mhz DDR4.

So, I will need to do a bit of reading on how best to tune the chip to maintain peak performance tonight and likely follow up in the AM.

Just a quick comparison on one of the games I like to play every so often.

Rise of the Tomb Raider | DX11 | AA off | Standard Hair | Otherwise Max Settings

10850k @ 5.0Ghz | DDR4 4400Mhz

image.thumb.jpeg.31864a7f1aa8394ea129ff70ccf89299.jpeg

2700x @ 4.0Ghz DDR4 3200Mhz

image.thumb.jpeg.be77ed5cda1de4f3f840c99545a68f55.jpeg

5800X3D @ Stock DDR4 3200Mhz

image.thumb.jpeg.22460db027bc9d645be952dc7e62afe5.jpeg

Might be a bad test, or bad stock tune by the motherboard who knows, peaks are higher than the 10850K but the minimums are bad by comparison. That being said its still double that, or greater than double of the 2700x.

Anyways, some reading is in order before documenting more benchmarks.

NEW TEST EDIT:
5800X3D @ 4.450Ghz | DDR4 3200Mhz | Resizable BAR Enabled | PBO2 Tuner -30

image.thumb.jpeg.5e71225a9d73072ff42ef6469ea9d58e.jpeg

Quite an improvement, the min/max/avg handily now surpass the 10850k in 2/3 zones in the benchmark under the above settings. Things are getting interesting!

So, the AOC 1080p 144Hz IPS display that was displaced from the monitor trio for work has been appointed as the OSD screen (LOL yes, 24-inch AIDA64 Sensor Panel) and the mini-1080p screen repurposed for Roku so I can watch/listen to Newsmax while working without wasting computer screen space for that.

And, here's the tacky-looking crap on the back side that I mentioned. I'm not sure why they feel compelled to do stupid stuff like this. In addition to the idiotic RGB logo and glyph designs, the bottom area where the cords and cables connect also have a stupid cover to help hide the ports with a small opening for the cords and cables to exit. There are half circle plastic fillers that snap in place to hide the screws attaching the screen to the base. So extremely dumb and totally unnecessary, LOL. I'll get over it in a day or two and won't care anymore, but stupid crap like this is rather annoying because I know the people that created it are proud of themselves. Ultimately, it was a frivolous endeavor that added cost to production that nobody realizes any useful benefit from and looks really ugly on top of having absolutely no value or functional reason to exist. Everything is a cartoon or anime crap now. Sheesh. Disgusting.

Dad gummit, that's really unacceptably lousy memory overclocking. I would not excuse it. Looks like his first was the best and even that was totally unacceptable... +700 less than my memory overclock on my Suprim and about as crappy as the Strix that I RMAd. If they're going to ream out my tailpipe without any lubricant, it had damned sure better perform as high as the price tag, or I'll ram up their tailpipe and break it off while it's in there. In the past year or so it is kind of scary how much trash I have RMAd because of lousy silicon bin quality. It's too bad for the people that are getting it back and can't sell it as new, but I don't care any more. If it is not at least average or a few ticks better they're getting it back. I'm not taking any more losses on crappy silicon. We all deserve to get top quality for top prices. "Settling" for below average just isn't something I am going to do any more. The loss will be theirs for selling me trash and no longer a lottery for me. No more short straws. The "guarantee to run stock stable" ain't gonna fly. It needs to overclock to an average or better level, or they'll get it back.
