Nice!

I stopped at SA 1.35 and switched to G4 when it wasn't posting at all at 8400 on the MSI Z790i

I pushed CPU_VDDQ (basically IVR TX) to 1.45, VDDQ and VDD (I let MSI keep them in sync) to 1.55 and a no go.

Same on the Asus Strix z790i except topping out at 7600 meant I didn't need to push SA past 1.2.

I'll be curious to test each slot individually today on the Strix Z790i today.

I was able to get the 8600 stable by increasing IMC voltage from 1.450 to 1.475V. And I had to send 1.550V MEM VDD. Once I got this 8600 stable for 3 cycles 1usmus I turned off that Real-Time memory timings in the bios so my timings stay put.

This motherboard does really great with this 8600 though so I’m happy with it. I will try to get 8800 stable next if possible. But it’s gonna be tough or impossible with my cpu and ram. DDR5 8800 stability testing and tuning is when random BSOD’s can occur on my Apex Z790 Vanilla. Similar to those random BSOD’s that my Apex Encore got at only DDR5 8400 lol. So I think it’s actual board lottery at play here. I indeed have a lower binned Apex Encore. I did get 8800 gaming stable on air cooled ram about 3 months ago using my Z790 Apex Vanilla. I keep losing these tedious ram profiles due to bios updates 🙃

Anyways, these voltages and timings are an endless combination. And they are all so different with what they need. My encore responded massively to increasing or lowering the SA voltage. But my white Apex is like totally dead with no feedback to that adjustment.

Have you tried doing baby steps with that Strix? set your XMP 8000 in bios, before saving go ahead and adjust speed to 7200 speed, then F10 save, set ceiling voltages for IMC/IVR/VDD/VDDQ/SA and F10 save, then set some super loose timings (CL42-56-56-56-148) F10 Save, and go up in baby steps with frequency letting it fully train each time all the way to 8000 speed. I’m sure you tried everything by now though, and it’s just limited to that 7600, and hey 7600 ain’t too shabby. But the MSI is definitely more impressive here though. Some motherboards individually are just bad batches and provide little feedback or motivation when we are trying to tune them up.

It would be COOL to see if exchanging it would result in a better quality Strix board.

Even though I don't have an abundance of time lately, I've been milling over purchasing this Bykski water block. Is anyone using a water block from them? How does it perform?

It’s gonna work very good! I say go for it. They make tons of GPU blocks too and too many other things.

Most CPU blocks all perform very similar to each other no matter how expensive one or cheap one may be. The only outlier here is when it comes to direct die.

Just finished up some memory testing on the Strix Z790i.

I think this board has potential but I'll need to dial in the CPU at 8000 to see

how it compared to the MSI then switch back to the MSI and rerun all these tests

but in the end it is going to be 6 of 1...half a dozen of the other methinks.

I did single sticks and then dual sticks.

Conclusion:

Slot A taps out at 8800 for posting

Slot B taps out at 8600 for posting

G.Skill sticks:

Stick A  was able to post up to 8800 in slot A

Stick A was able to post up to 8600 in slot B

Stick B was able to post up to 8400 in slot A and B

Both sticks posted at 8400 (MSI only posted at 8200)

A+B = only pass TM5 at 7600

B+A = able to pass TM5 at 8000

While testing at 8000, something is producing coil whine that isn't there on the MSI.

I still need to switch to Gear 4 to take the CPU out of the equation just as a check if I can post higher.

KLEVV CRAS V RGB DDR5-8000 32GB Dual-Channel Memory Kit Review (comes with proper RGB light disaster). Yes, why buy this 32GB kit when you can get 48GB for a similar price?  But what do I know... Could be that some buyers are much more tempted by this ram kit RGB color blends over anything else. Useless often beat common sense. But the whole world is filled with all sorts of weirdos so I'm sure there is a market for this junk as well😖

The Z690 Apex had, and my Z790 Apex has coil whine when severely stressing the memory. The Z690 Unify-X never did and the Dark does not. I can no longer hear it as well with the Supercool water cooling parts so I am assuming it is either the G.SKILL modules, the lower temperature of water-cooled memory, or the added mass of the liquid cooling parts is helping to suppress or dampen the sound on the Apex.

If I had it to do over again, I would get the non-RGB 48GB TeamGroup T-Create Expert A-die kits in 7200 or higher. G.SKILL stuff is hit or miss, like ASUS. Random examples of the exact same part number that are either really good or just crap. TeamGroup QC has always seemed very consistent to me, and the absence of RGB on memory modules makes it even better. I really hate RGB memory. It's so stupid.

I believe you are right. RGB is the most important thing to some people. Unfortunately, the PC component manufacturers know this and cater to that group. Probably because they know the bar is set much lower and it is easier for them to avoid failure if they pretend that RGB is the most important thing. If those people like how it looks, they'll most likely never know that what they bought can just barely run the XMP profile with stability (if even that much is possible).

I would like to buy two of those kits and test each stick then run the best matched two sticks! Almost every memory kit sucks because we get 1 bad stick in the kit.

One stick may hit like 8400Mhz, and another can do 8,900Mhz. Those are non gamer oriented. And pretty affordable at $194.99 which is a good buy for 48GB! The heat spreaders probably come off easier too.

I am limited by my ram for the most part. But the link you just shared has me wanting to try those 100%.

I bet they are really good. My current ram is at its limits.

I would consider those Team Groups as like buying 3gbit green sticks, but we get a base XMp profile for free. I doubt they are binned at all. We gotta do that.

They are also 7200C34 compared to my kit which is 7200C36. I bet 100% that you can find a golden match set from binning these. I’d like to find a set that can do the 8600C36@1.400VDD and 8800C38@1.470VDD. My rams are stretched pretty thin to 8600C40 lol.

From one of the replies..... Worst timing ever too as 4090s are quite limited or no availability too.

Dude, I don’t feel bad for you considering everyone being so blatantly clear that these first gens HAVE ISSUES!!!! You never thought to check Reddit once after purchasing where you would have seen all the failures??? Even a quick google search would work. Try to stay better informed and you’ll be better able to stop things like this from happening.

And if you are really brave bro Electro.... But not sure if this brand will replace your GPU for free. Tempted? Maybe they have an variant that fits your GPU🤪

Safe Design

EZDIY-FAB 12VHPWR Angled Adapter creates extra space and clearance between your graphics card and side panel. Its reinforced PCB design allows for a zero-bending connection, ensuring full contact with all cable terminals and eliminating the possibility of thermal issues caused by tight bending radii.

180 RVS 2

Hmmm. Only 20-25 4090 card each week for repair. That will be up to 100 cards each months only for NorthridgeFix. Cablemod reps said there is only a few burned cards du their disaster adapters... Hmmm

Will this affect Nvidia? Or is the need much bigger than what Nvidia, Intel and soon AMD can offer?

Intel and Gaudi 2: soon the end of NVIDIA's monopoly in AI?

In short, all these benchmarks are very encouraging for Intel. It remains to be seen what the price of such a solution is. As a reminder, an NVIDIA H100 costs at least $30,000, or even more, with Amazon listing it at $43,989. In any case, Intel wants to position itself as a competitive performance/price ratio in the sector!

I would expect they are very good, hence the name of them and the absence of RGB. Only way to know is to buy a kit and see. RMA if they are trash. Mr. Potty-Mouth Jufus the Dufus swears by them. Mine are supposed to be here on Sunday. I will know within 15 minutes if I am keeping them or sending them back for a refund. I have several saved memory profiles to apply that will tell me almost instantly if they are gems or junk. Removing the heatsinks by soaking them in lacquer thinner is very easy if they are good enough to keep.

I’m going to order some next week. I did consider the G.Skill 8400 sticks. But they are too super crazy expensive, and I don’t trust the ram will be any better than what I have. I could get (2) of these kits for $390 and keep the best two sticks, return the others. And I can quickly exchange on Amazon if they all suck.

Man, dude is really ripping on AMD here, but if it's true, it's true. I don't know and don't intend to find out.

My 7800X3D totally outclassed (highs and lows)  my 12900k + tuned B-die 4100 DDR4 for WoW and Fallout 76. I'll be curious to see how the 13900ks + tuned 8000 DDR5 performs as I'll end up swapping my 4090 and 7900xtx back and forth between both systems to really get a good set of data to see.

He talks about the "AMD Dip" but it isn't the same "dip" he was talking about with AM4 where frame rates would tank. This is a ~10% drop in 1% and .01% vs Intel without that brutal chunk AM4 gave which was painful. I did experience the "dip" on AM4 in WoW in Raids (most CPU intensive part of WoW with all that player data) with my 5800X and it was brutal when it would hit. I have never experienced that dip with AM5 with countless hours logged in WoW and FO76.

I also think he is not so subtly pushing his services to sell high end Apex Encore + DDR5 8000 tuned + 14900k combos to "CODbros" which is a $1000 fee + parts. He also gets to conveniently fish for the best gear as it crosses his path. I fully expect him to pop up with a good sample 14900k soon as one hits while he builds these out.

With that being said, I still enjoy his videos. 🙂

LOOOL 😁😂😁 Maybe you all can find such a nice deal. Sub $1 for a 12VHPWR angled adapter is a steal.

Anyone that have wondered why Intel quietly fused of AVX-512 functionality for their 12th gen Alder Lake, then 13th and 14th gen Intel mainstream processors? Most likely because that was the easiest fix.

CPU VULNERABILITY Intel is said to have known about Downfall as early as 2018

Plaintiffs accuse Intel of having known about security problems five years ago, which ultimately led to Downfall.

New Intel Downfall AVX2/AVX-512 Vulnerability & Its Huge......

End results.... An older 12th gen Intel Cpu with disabled baby-cores but with AVX-512 functionality activated can crush an 13/14th gen running full oc'd speed with all 24 cores. Isn't that disgusting?

Top ranked 8 cores Cpu - Y-Cruncher Pi-1B

https://hwbot.org/submission/5396871_sergmann_y_cruncher___pi_1b_core_i9_12900k_(8p)_12sec_945ms

Fastest 24 core Intel with fused of AVX-512

https://hwbot.org/submission/5125390_luumi_y_cruncher___pi_1b_core_i9_13900k_13sec_938ms

Almost 1 second faster in Y-cruncher Pi-1B with 16 less cores. And with AVX-512 enabled the cpu needed 600MHz lower clock speed. Again... That's disgusting. More cores but worse bench results. What a deal.

I realy hate how Intel deal with their valuable customers. It should be up to the end-user if he prefer less secure system (if they prefer enable AVX-512 features in firmware).

This Sunday's word for today has to be.....

Another product launch by AMD that MSI isn't participating in, at least not initially. While I understand TR isn't going to sell like hotcakes, MSI's wait and see approach is very interesting. MSI did this with AMD's 7000 GPU series and I believe they did the same with AM5.

There are two theories based off rough rumors for MSI's apprehension.

AMD is punishing MSI due to their past transgressions. MSI did offer features/functionality (as did Asrock) that often went against AMD's wishes. I really don't think this is the case.

MSI is trying hard to take EVGA's spot in the eyes of Nvidia and Intel. If KP does go to MSI, this all makes sense. MSI may soon abandon AMD and their products. Thus becoming an exclusive partner for Nvidia (GPUs) and Intel (CPUs). Perhaps one day, we will have a MSI K|ngp|n Lightning card and KP OC mobo. I believe this is what the plans are.

You might be on to something here @Rage Set

Doing a quick check:

I noticed MSI has either severely slowed or halted production of their MSI 7000 series cards.

On Newegg, only MSI card available is the 7600.

On Best Buy only MSI card available is again the 7600 with a few clearance 6000 series models

On Microcenter the only consistently available card again is yep, the 7600 with sporadic offerings depending on store.

The reference model disappeared quite some time ago and recently you can't find the MSI 7900xtx Gaming Trio anywhere. I just happen to have found an open box Amazon Warehouse model.

I tend to think Nvidia sales are more plentiful than AMD sales and margins are thin on both sides but I can see them doing what you said and going all in with Nvidia only on the GPU side and the ultimate abandonment would be going exclusively Intel for CPUs too.

We also know that when EVGA waded into the AMD waters with their X570 MB, they encountered equal if not worse control issues than Nvidia. I'm sure it hasn't been a picnic for MSI. It is probably easier to just focus on Intel and Nvidia and kick AMD to the curb.

I also noticed prices for MSI 7900xtx Gaming Trio cards have shot through the roof with the few still at various MC back up to $1125, they were ~$1200 on Newegg before the last sold out and on Amazon they went from $979 to $1099 to $1199 and now $1395 only from third party sellers with the seller list having shrunk from ~8-10 down to 2.

As for Nvidia 4090 stock:

Only in stock cards at Newegg. Suprim up $150. TUF up $300....along with a sudden increase in S&H which is a classic NE profiteering mechanism.

1427870688_Instock4090Newegg.thumb.jpg.3b13624bd9af8ffe117a8f57b0054eae.jpg

New delivered cost for my neck of the woods (We're officially over $2k):

2039083178_Screenshot2023-11-12135206.jpg.27f8d48bebd46abb8f9c0f76ce291b7e.jpg

But they're selling as both existing 4090's are in the top selling chart for NE:

1501291292_Screenshot2023-11-12135735.thumb.jpg.abe7624a2c3853ec90e7ebc29e826728.jpg

Best Buy still completely sold out.

I hope the latter is true. If they want to be taken as seriously as EVGA was by enthusisasts, they'll need to not waste a lot of time and energy with mainstream consumer garbage, at least in the enthusiast space products if they plan to dominate there. And, they'll need to provide a warranty as good as EVGA provided for those products. The three to 6+ weeks turn-around time on warranty service, with outbound shipping paid by the victim, as we have come to expect from ASUS, is totally unacceptable. Taking a wait-and-see approach and only building/selling what is popular and sells well, as smart as it might be, is not very likely. It would be difficult to find fault with it, though.

Checked a bit more. There is a few big retail shops that have lots of 4090's. +50 cards of some models. So not a real 4090 shortage here home.

See this one.... One of the cheapest 4090 you'll get here. MSI GeForce RTX 4090 VENTUS 3X OC. I converted NOK to USD. And removed the nice Norwegian 25% VAT. So $1,541.24 USD or below MSRP without taxes.

still broad availability of 4090s in central europe, however prices are creeping up considerably. whereas before you could get your hands on a basic 4090 model at sub 1600€ (incl. tax), ure now looking at roughly 1850+€, with rising tendency...

On 11/10/2023 at 8:19 PM, Mr. Fox said:

I would expect they are very good, hence the name of them and the absence of RGB. Only way to know is to buy a kit and see. RMA if they are trash. Mr. Potty-Mouth Jufus the Dufus swears by them. Mine are supposed to be here on Sunday. I will know within 15 minutes if I am keeping them or sending them back for a refund. I have several saved memory profiles to apply that will tell me almost instantly if they are gems or junk. Removing the heatsinks by soaking them in lacquer thinner is very easy if they are good enough to keep.

Well, not a bad kit. Quality is fine. The advertisement (even on the box) of a "one piece design" on the heatsink is just straight-up false. It is two pieces. The seam is not obvious at a glance and it looks like one piece. Not sure I am going to keep it because it is not remarkably  better than the RAM I took out of the Dark. It runs the same memory overclock as the G.SKILL kit on the Apex. I will think about it for a day or two. Not really gaining anything for the money spent. The 16GB*2 generic green A-die sticks are basically just as good. The only measurable benefit, which may not even matter in the grand scheme of things, is the extra 16GB of memory capacity. The extra capacity is worth something, but I am not sure that is a good enough basis for keeping versus RMA/refund.

If I keep it then, of course, it will have the heating blankets removed and the water-cooling kit on the generic A-die sticks will be installed on them. Just a matter of whether or not I decide it is worth the extra money and associated hassle. I'm kind of leaning toward "no" but we will see if I change my mind in a few days. I gained nothing on overclocking capacity, but also didn't lose anything except the slightly tighter timings possible with the 16GB first-generation A-die modules.

Nah... slept on it and do not need to think longer. No overclocking benefit over what I already have. The looser timings and higher voltage are worth mentioning. I don't need the extra 16GB. Sending it back for a refund makes the most sense. It deserves mention that the T-Create modules have dual XMP profiles; the mediocre 7200 and an even more mediocre 6000.
