I’m actually thinking about down sizing my whole system. I’m moving soon, and I’m not sure if I want to drag all this with me lol. I’m considering getting out of the “extreme game” and just running normal case with a AIO on a normal CPU with stock speeds. It’s been fun. But definitely I’m not looking forward to moving my work PC 🤣

LOL....I'll believe that when I see it! With your love of performance and pushing max everything, I can't see you moving to an AIO for your main rig like.....ever.

Definitely need to get some betting going around that resolution lol

AIOs suck for 13900K+ at "stock speeds", you would be back on a custom loop inside a month.

I'd take some of that action lol.

MCSP does not impact how far a memory controller will overclock, it directly impacts how much IMC voltage is needed to achieve the same overclock.

You may find a 14900K mcsp75 and it runs DDR5 8200 Memtest stable with 1.475V CPU IMC. But you could test a 14900K mcsp85 that only needs 1.300v CPU IMC voltage for the same 8200.

I think higher mcsp directly leads to lower cpu IMC voltage, and also lower SA voltage too.

If MCSP is establishing a baseline IMC voltage requirement, at what memory frequency/frequencies is that used for testing? If their testing caps at lets say 7200, it quickly loses its efficacy pushing higher frequencies especially 8000+.

If they go in there and cap out at even lower frequencies (5600/6000), then it really would be more useless than it already has shown to be in many cases.

Less burden on the IMC can correlate to less SA voltage requirements.

Nearing 40K. My system is ready for a coolant flush and a repaste. Really never saw temps above 90c, like in that screenshot.

Hmmm. Is 16 more than 24? Is less more? Maybe ask bro @ryan😁 No wonder Nvidia is stinky on vram for newest mid/low tier cards. Less is the new more, HaHa

That has to be good news. The coming GTX 570 have only 1.25GB vram while my 970 have 4GB😆

Check this out everyone. I was browsing through MSI Store, and I was looking at their pre-built desktops and I saw this.

It looks like it comes with 14900K, Godlike Z790 motherboard in the photos? Is that correct? And also a Suprim Liquid-X 4090? All for $3,899. That’s not a terrible deal. And it’s really top notch parts for a pre-built PC. I guess it’s all MSI brand parts, but higher end MSI parts, which seems pretty unique and also odd.

Nothing I’d buy, but I’m just appreciating the part selection here which seems really high end for a “Pre-Built” name brand PC. Definitely better than a Alienware or Dell.

"Security" and "vulnerability" patches have never been something that I burn any calories fretting over.  The best protection is to not be stupid, but the notion that being secure is possible with computer technology is on the same level of dumb as Santa Claus and the Easter Binny.

You know I was so tempted to buy one when I was waiting on 4080 Super stock, it felt like they just weren’t coming back in-stock.

I was really wanting the 7900XTX Nitro+ which I think may be one of the best overclocking 7900XTX. But maybe I’m mistaken. I saw some others for even $890 dollars, and I was seriously questioning my decision on spending $900 vs $1200.

Which model did you get?

Nitro+ and Asrock Taichi 7900xtx are my two favorites hands down this generation If price is no object and I'm picking completely on cooling, PCB and design but just about every 7900xtx card is good except for a few with known hotspot issues (Asrock 7900xtx Phantom, Powercolor Red Devil early batches come to mind). Reference cards can run rather toasty but they are very compact.

I ended up picking up a used Powercolor Hellhound Spectral White 7900XTX from a really trusted seller over on the OCN forums (I've purchased from him numerous times now) for several reasons:

The price ($740 shipped) <---most important

I wanted an all white or white leaning theme for this build as it will be a mecha/Robotech type build.

It is one of the smaller 7900XTX cards in length (320mm)

It is one of the quieter models under load

Everybody I've asked who has had one (black or white) has hit 3000mhz no problem

And lastly, it is a 2x PCI-E lead card and it will be going into an ITX build with a case and SFF PSU that only has two leads.

Nice. Equal rotten as my worst GPU of over +20 cards. Yup, its a EVGA. But EVGA went damn cheapo and gave it an fully locked voltage controller. No custom vbios in the world can fix this trash from EVGA. Still 4th place in 3DMark Vantage with the trash EVGA GTX 760🙂 Could be worse... A lot worse and equal the new modern crashing AMD graphics cards @Mr. Fox😆

I'd take some of that action lol.

I bet you would 🙂 Apparently, I’m so excited about this unmissable opportunity that I have stated suffering from Freudian slips and typing “notebooktalk.bet” into the browser 😉

State of World of Warcraft running on AMD cards, particularly 7000 series:

Still a hot mess crashing left and right as always. It has been 13+ months since I first started testing 7900XTX cards in WoW, and the problems have actually gotten worse!

Two things:

This 7900XTX I picked up is not for WoW

I played tonight for 3hrs on my 4090 and smooth as butter as always.

The guy that bought my Z690 Dark purchased a 7900XTX to use in it and he has been pulling his hair out with stuttering problems with games. Trying to help him out, came across this that might help.

Is there conclusive evidence the stuttering has something to do with the GPU, as opposed another system hardware or software component? (did they try another GPU?)

While the precise cause is speculation, there does seem to be a direct correlation to using an AMD GPU. He installed an old 1070 Ti and the stuttering problem disapeared. He then installed his old 6700 XT and the problem returned. He used DDU to remove the AMD drivers and installed his new 7900 XTX using an older driver. It seemed like everything was resolved, but he installed the latest AMD driver a couple of days later and the stuttering returned to his 7900 XTX. So, it does seem to be GPU/AMD driver related. I also had some stuttering with the 6900 XT in some games, as well as other goofy glitches with desktop icon rendering and rendering of text in Micro$oft Office products.

What I think, and again only speculation, is that AMD is following the silly path of Micro$lop and focusing way too much on power management instead of allowing the GPU to do what is best for performance at the exclusion of all other considerations. Focusing on using as little power as possible almost always results in undesirable performance behaviors. Trying to have it both ways is generally a fool's errand. Striving for dynamic clock behavior algorithms often produces undesirable results as well.

Well that looks quite conclusive. Is it not possible to set max performance mode in the AMD GPU control panel?

I think he would be happy with a normal AIO for a couple of months while he gets his new home in order. The question is how long would he last without high-end components and custom watercooling.

For my workstation, I don't use any custom watercooling anymore, and I'm thinking about selling my EVGA 3090 FTW3 Ultra Hybrid that I was using in that workstation. I replaced it with my A770 for the time being until I make my decision.

So it is possible for him to hold back but for how long.
