Mr. Fox
2 hours ago, tps3443 said: I have been getting this “GPU out of video memory” error since 13th gen first launched, all of those errors in the video are probably from me lol. I would use it as my quick and easy stability test lol. I knew that if BF2042 would not spit that GPU out of VRAM error, or The Last of US, during their shader decompression, then my system was 100% stable lol. The largest reason for this error is simply from voltage/clock speed/ power/heat. There’s some sort of silicon issue with that initial launch load going from 10-180 watts in 0.3 seconds and if that voltage isn’t enough, or if those temps aren’t cold enough. It’s going to fail. I actually had one last night lol. This one popped up after closing the game though so it did not bother me 🤣 I always undervolt using LLC and AC/DC etc, so I stretch the CPU‘s to their lowest possible voltage required to save on power and reduce heat. And this is where I have always seen the errors. (Not from running the chips stock) now, I use a chiller so these chips stay cold so that would probably explain why I never see the errors when running stock/auto voltage. Asus updated the bios and moved away from their LLC3 standard to now using LLC5 which made many of them go away. If your load voltage is high enough you won’t get that error at all. Pretty wild seeing this though. It fixed the problem for most. But it always came down to just a weird silicon sensitivity problem. You can always force the error to happen on any chip out there I doesn’t matter how amazing it is. They all spit the same error if you starve them too much on voltage with these very quick ramping shader compiling loads. I’m not sure who to blame here. But it’s something wrong with the CPU’s I guess. I can always make them work either way though. Hopefully next gen won’t have the issue. I recommend anyone with an Intel 13th/14th gen to run Cinebench R15 a few times. If they can get through that, they should be okay. Something about R15 and the instruction set it uses is much harder to run on a 13th/14th gen Intel than R23/R24. If they can’t get through R15, add more voltage lol. Then once it can run reliably, add another +0.010 and you should be good for never having “Out of GPU memory errors” They should not be having any problems with BIOS defaults, and if that is the case then something is wrong with the BIOS defaults. I have only encountered that "out of memory" error one time and the problem was fixed by dropping the cache overclock from 52x to 51x. My impression is it is largerly caused by inexperienced people trying to overclock or undervolt incorrectly. Starving a CPU of voltage reduces performance and causes instability for sure. I never run my CPUs or memory stock and never hestitate to give them more voltage when they need it to run right, but doing that is a common mistake made by many. I could be wrong, but I suspect these issues are primarily user-induced. Inexperience and ignorance are extremely common, and unintentionally misplaced blame often follows when things don't turn out as hoped. Games are sometimes not the most stable software coding examples and they can have stability issues of their own even when everything is tuned right from a hardware perspective. On top of that, stability issues with gamer noobs getting overzealous with undervolting too much are certainly nothing new. When you have a product that is pushed to the near edge already in its stock form that is going to be even more problematic for them. Some may be undervolting where the solution they actually should be looking at with a sub-par silicon sample is over-volting, but they don't know enough to recognize that their tuning efforts are going 180 degrees in the wrong direction. 1 hour ago, Papusan said: With not good enough cooling and with the Intel (mb manufactures cut costing) bend-gate, people risk problems like mentioned. Expecting a caviar-level experience on a crackers and peanut butter budget doesn't happen. We know good and well there are going to be people dropping their i9 into a cheap motherboard with a $25 Amazon air cooler from China and expecting it to run the same as a system that someone else spent 300% more on their build. Interesting that single core would be worse than multi, rather than multi being an exponential equation. A symptom of the stupidity in having a large disparity in turbo clocks on only one or two cores. It sounds like the article is finding the nice things to say so that people who are already predisposed to buying it will buy it. Which is what we expect from most "influencers" in the media. electrosoft
Asrock Z790i Lightning ordered and on its way 8200 sticks should be here tomorrow SP109 14900ks waiting patiently after dipping its toe into DDR4 land... I won't need the SFF built out and complete for over a month so that gives me plenty of time to set it up in my test case and run all types of benchmarks swapping the 7900xtx and 4090 back and forth between the 14900ks and 7950X3D in binned 7800X3D mode. Debating on taking a chance on a Lian Li Galahad II Performance 360mm to replace my EVGA CLC 360mm since it seems to outclass everything outside of custom water but V1 and some V2 have well documented pump issues. I ended up snagging a new one on Amazon for $116. Looks like they're on sale at the moment and just about every review I've come across puts it at #1. It will replace the EVGA CLC 360mm as my test bench AIO after 3.5yrs of faithful service. The Lian Li just seems to outclass everything at full tilt atm. Hopefully it is at worst a late V2 and at best a V3. 4 1 Electrosoft Prime: SP109 14900KS | Asrock Z790i Lightning | MSI Suprim X Liquid 4090 | AC LF II 420 | TG 2x16GB 8200 | Samsung 990 Pro 2TB | EVGA 1600w P2 | Phanteks Ethroo Pro | Alienware AW3225QF 32" OLED Heath: i9-12900k | EVGA CLC 280 | Asus Strix Z690 D4 | Asus Strix 3080 | 32GB DDR4 2x16GB B-Die 4000 | WD Black SN850 512GB | EVGA DG-77 | Samsung G7 32" 144hz 32" My for sale items on eBay. I am interested to hear the results! I recently got fed up with trying to get consistent gaming performance out of my newer laptop so ended up upgrading my desktop and transitioning to it for gaming for a while. Got these parts for it: 7800X3D using my old NH-D15S MSI MAG X670E Tomahawk Corsair 2x16GB DDR5-6400 CL32 (at 6000 CL32 for now) XFX 7900 GRE I kind of wondered if I would be better off with a 7800X3D or 7950X. I will want to run encoding jobs on this machine but it is probably not a big deal if they take longer if the 7800X3D is better suited for gaming. The 7800X3D definitely seems to be running cooler than the 12900KS in games while offering better FPS. I am happy to not be going with Intel and Nvidia with this build. 3 2 Desktop - 12900KS, 32GB DDR5-6400 C32, 2TB WD SN850, Windows 10 Pro 22H2 Clevo X170SM - 10900K, 32GB DDR4-2933 CL17, 4TB WD SN850X, RTX 3080 mobile, 17.3 inch FHD 144hz, System76 open source firmware, Windows 10 Pro 22H2 Clevo X370SNW - 13900HX, 32GB DDR5-5600 CL40, 4TB Samsung 990 Pro, RTX 4090 mobile, 17.3 inch FHD 144hz, System76 open source firmware, Windows 10 Pro 22H2 Lenovo Thinkpad P16 G2 - 13950HX, 64GB DDR5-4000 CL32, 2TB Kioxia SSD, RTX 4090 mobile 130W, 16 inch FHD+ 60hz, Windows 10 Pro 22H2 MSI Raider 18 A7V - 7945HX3D, 32GB DDR5-5200, 1TB PM9A1, RTX 4090 mobile 175W, 18 inch QHD+ 240hz, Windows 10 Pro 22H2 Precision 7670 - 12950HX, 32GB DDR5-4800 CAMM, 1TB SSD, RTX 3080Ti mobile 100W, 16 inch WUXGA 60hz, Windows 10 Pro 22H2

If they were $116 I would have grabbed a few. 🙂 I picked one up via Newegg via eBay for $249.99 so I could get back 5%. They're on sale right now for Neweggs annual Fantastadeal (or whatever they call it) extravaganza. Have you had a chance to try the new bios for the Carbon yet? tps3443
Is it safe to say the whole 4090’s catching fire thing was all from just improper usage? I have been running the Galax 666 watt bios, I can consistently pull 600+ watts in games for hours with no issues whatsoever. My wires right at the plug reach about 57C tops, and the plastic connectors may hit 40C if that. I have a slight curve in my cable for wire management, no major creases like some do. But, it’s been great. The 4090 really needs the 666 watt bios at a minimum to operate freely I think. 2 1 13900KF

That is a really solid build and the 7900 GRE to me is the ultimate sweet spot for AMD 7000 series cards this series similar to the 4070 Super for price:performance except even better. 7800X3D and tuned up 6000 G2 will have you performing nicely! 7800X3D is definitely faster than the 12900KS and you will need a nicely tuned 13900k/14900k running 8000+ to give a 7800X3D a run for its money. I love laptops but for my main gaming rig it has to be a desktop. Last time I was laptop only was when I ran a P870DM w/ 980 desktop class GPU. Then the 1080ti dropped and I ended up going back to desktops for my main rig. 3 hours ago, Raiderman said: Have you had a chance to try the new bios for the Carbon yet? My system is due for a clean install so my objective is to upgrade the BIOS tune it back up and give the rig a clean install all in one shot. 39 minutes ago, tps3443 said: Is it safe to say the whole 4090’s catching fire thing was all from just improper usage? It is a valid claim, but I think a lot of it was/is third party adapters along with improper insertion or not heading the warming signs. One of the very clear warning signs is intermittent black screens out of nowhere. Even I had a few and those few times immediately reseated my stock Suprim X 4090 Liquid cable and they went right away. Each time it happened I had been working inside my system. Now when I work inside of it, I always really press down to make sure it is fully inserted and then some and no problems. I definitely have a slight curve in my cable because it's impossible to not have one with the way the cables have to run back without an adapter. I've been running my 4090 for 18 months now no problems. I flat out won't use third party adapters. I stick with the tentacle or in my future case the stock MSI 1300 12VHPWR adapter. 1 1 1 Electrosoft Prime: SP109 14900KS | Asrock Z790i Lightning | MSI Suprim X Liquid 4090 | AC LF II 420 | TG 2x16GB 8200 | Samsung 990 Pro 2TB | EVGA 1600w P2 | Phanteks Ethroo Pro | Alienware AW3225QF 32" OLED Heath: i9-12900k | EVGA CLC 280 | Asus Strix Z690 D4 | Asus Strix 3080 | 32GB DDR4 2x16GB B-Die 4000 | WD Black SN850 512GB | EVGA DG-77 | Samsung G7 32" 144hz 32" My for sale items on eBay. They work in a pinch, but I don’t like the look with all those 8 pins running to it. You have to be good with that MSI 1300 MEG PSU though. My MSI is the lower tier and less wattage than yours. I really like the PSU. 2 1 13900KF
ryan
@Papusan bro. honestly iv'e given up. all the new junk coming out whats the point. overclcoking gains of 50 percent? nope! good thermals in a laptop? see my posts about the 3000 dollar laptop I bought, apparently its the best as the benchmarks show. upgradeability? nope why give the consumers modularity and choice as well as a touch of respect. I bought a tablet for basic things as computers are done, I cant stand doing anything on my phone and can't stand tablets but its pretty frustrating when something you love gets flushed. I don't understand, they make trillions from tech and then change modify and delete it? clever. clever like wiping your bum with a 100 dollar bill. I could have bought 4 desktops but honestly the problem isnt desktops its the software, the OSes are trash the games will all look like tetris in 20 years and we will need a 40k series atom tracing gpu to run 16 colored minesweeper, im not buying it. why would a game that looks like it came out in 2005 need 100 times the power??? no one seems to question this. my tablet runs real racing 3 and it looks clearer and sharper than my 4k oled and gaming laptop running the revolutionary forza motorsport, sure it doesnt have quite the same texture details, but it could easily use compareable textures all the while looking sharper cleaner and running better than a freeking desktop. why are people buying this crap, I honestly have no desire to own anything tech related when I compare it to the past and what I saw the future to be, it just didnt happen. I tried to adopt the 3060 but everytime a new game came out I was let down, nothing stands out and its been 14 years. im not waiting 20 years only to be let down. its going to be the idiots thin and light and a tablet for me just for emails and online banking ect. the techverse has literally killed what made them trillions over 20 years. like stop reinventing the damn wheel. its annoying 1 2 ZEUS-COMING SOON Omen 16 2021 Zenbook 14 oled Vivobook 15x oled

And with my old eyes with mini jokebooks/trashphone I rather do it this way. I hate everything that seems to look like a modern pc. Go big or go home. Sadly Im on vacation and dont have access to my old good tools. Im not an smartphone jokey. I really hate this type tech. For my kids... Yes, but this is not for me. As I have already stated i earlier post. Android and iPhone have their own stupid flaws. Nothing is good in this type tech world. Trash! And I dont want invest my valuable time into this. Nope. Not me. Either merge it or just let it be. Edit. As bro @Mr. Foxso nicely said. Slimy and disgusting tech! With this new modern trash phone and I rotet it in landscape I can't see a shit with sunglasses. Yup, I hate it!!! What a progress since my old (soon dead) phone from 2018. From worse to worse.
