Yeah, if you hate humanity and are fed up, then AI will definitely provide a final solution to that. It'll only be rational. Unfortunately, prior to that billionaires will become trillionaires, and almost everyone else will end up on UBI if they are lucky (can't really imagine UBI in the US).

I'd like to say I used a sniper bot or some other hot tech, but honestly it was pure luck. I happen to refresh and BOOM there it was on BB so I snagged it. This was for both a 3090 and a 4090.

yup, for me it was just elbow grease, had like 10 different reputable online shops open at the same time and kept refreshing for about 1.5 hours before i got something i was happy with. ill do the same approach this time around 😄

soooo, whos got their wallets ready?

here comes a statement that only very few will get behind / not lock me up for being insane: BOI am i glad the 5090 turned out to be rather CHEAP and on the LOWER side of the rumoured price ranges! now i got more than enough wallet buffer to snatch a nice AIB card 🙂 (not really interested in the FEs, they always look fancy and come with some new type of cooling ideas but in the end they only provide juuuust enough cooling to run the cards at stock with a slight overclock. this will be even more true on the 2-slot 575W 5090 this time around lulz)

I think techspot's article about Blackwell is quite good. One of the better. Many of the points above is well discussed. They talk about all SKUs and what is bad and what people won't know.

Nvidia launches RTX 50 Blackwell GPUs: From the $2,000 RTX 5090 to the $549 RTX 5070

Here's one of the unknown...

The other issue is using multi-frame rendering to hack our way to high-frame-rate gaming. Nvidia showed a demo where, without DLSS 4, a game was running at 30 FPS, but then over 240 FPS with DLSS 4 enabled. Now, of course, not even DLSS upscaling was enabled in the 30 FPS example, but we really don't want to see any situations where generating 3 frames is used to get a 30 FPS game up to 120 FPS – that would be absolutely horrific in terms of input latency.

Edit.

1 hour ago, Etern4l said:

The performance claims are likely exaggerated based on ideal case scenarios when using the new DLSS vs previous gen. They say up to 2x 5090 vs 4090 thanks to the latest DLSS (which itself is supposed to be, I lost track 2-8x? faster).

lol, that works too!

At least during the Pandemic/Cryptoboom, plenty of bots were monitoring sites and camaraderie of fellow GPU seekers sitting in chat and shooting the breeze while waiting for drops using suspect math to calculate drop times was good times!

I'd like to say I'm going to pass on the 5090, but the FE (SFF), MSI Suprims (My current fave company) and (looks sheepishly down at the ground in shame 🤪) the Asus Astral 5090 has me intrigued.

ASUS-GeForce-RTX-5090-32GB-ROG-ASTRAL4.j

I'm trying to stay "go with the flow," and seriously considering a 9070XT or 5070 but testing a 5090 with the 9800X3D and 14900KS has me jonsin' for a 4k shootout with WoW and FO76. 🤣 The idea of a mega powerful SFF desktop that I can take with me for travel and has the ultimate power just has me fired up.

Part of me wants to go AIO 5090 again, but swapping between platforms for testing was such a PITA with the 4090 MSI Liquid vs when I was swapping the various 7900XTX's I had during the last few years.

And yup, like I said earlier, I'm glad (as glad as one could be to pony up $2k for a gpu for play) Nvidia stuck to a $2k price point and even moreso the rest of the stack either stayed the same (5070) or even got cheaper (5080, 5070ti).

------

Launch is on the 30th and that gives me over three weeks to sort and and tune the hardware that just arrived today

Agreed.

Some things stand out from the article:

5070:

"This would place the RTX 5070 slightly ahead of the RTX 4070 Super for about $50 less, or alternatively, 20 – 30% faster than the RTX 4070 for the same price. Depending on how it performs relative to the RTX 4070 Super, this could offer reasonable, though slightly underwhelming, value. A 10% performance improvement over the 4070 Super and a 9% price cut would result in roughly a 20% improvement in cost per frame."

If you already have a 4070 or 4070 Super, unclutch your pearls and enjoy your card. On the other hand, if you're within a return window, return it and get a 5070 regardless of either model.

Great thing is you are getting a 20-30% uplift for the same price.

5070ti:

See above + great thing is you are getting a 20-30% uplift at $50USD cheaper

5080:

Same uplift, but reflects the cheaper 4080 Super pricing and not the "we hit a wall" with the $1199 4080 cash grab.

5090:

Pushing more towards (fingers crossed) a ~40% uplift in raw performance over the 4090 but the increased cost cancels out a large chunk (if not all) of the gained value generation over generation depending on the final uplift (25% increased cost).

Overall, it seems Nvidia realizes outside of their halo 5090, they seem to have hit a wall in pricing vs competition and what will sell and move to meet their volume expectations. Even with the 5080 most likely being much better than the 7900xtx and even moreso the 9070xt, it comes down to pricing and what consumers will pay for an 080 class card. Pricing it at half the cost of a 5090 removes a lot of the "well it is already so close to the 090, might as well get the 090" club and increases its viability and desirability.

As for the 5090? All bets are off in this AI madness driven market along with the fact the 5090 will be so far ahead performance wise of ANYTHING on the market that you WILL pay if you want to play. The gap is going to be pretty brutal especially compared to AMD.

It just reinforces my own personal "go big or go home" approach and it will be either a 9070xt/5070 or a 5090 for me this generation (4070 Super obviously going back to Best Buy at the end of January).

Fair enough. Don't get me wrong, I'm hoping we will beat the odds and somehow make it, warts and all, but given the direction of travel it looks it will take a battle the humanity hasn't seen before. In theory we could grow a super-intelligent hive mind and shut this shit down right now (we haven't so far, but perhaps an impending catastrophe would help focus the minds), it's just extremely hard given who controls both the traditional and social media, never mind numerous other (even more serious) human challenges. Maybe not the best place to discuss this, but all definitely related to NVidia's CES keynote unfortunately.

Ir seems Asus prefer not to change the way the 12+4 pin connector is soldered on top of the PCB. Why? And what do you gain from this? I tell you...  Slightly easier to remove the connector from the card because the hook is on top. Asus is the only one that do it this way. And they are also alone on top with melted connectors. Jup, even with the refreshed 12V-2x6.

Hmmm. Even Gigabyte also offer 5000 series Nvidia cards for  Meltgate Part 2 now. They do as Asus and solder the 12V-2x6 connector uppside down. Aka the opposite from previous gen. Yup, the gamers really need help with the tiny Nvidia power connector. What brand will be the next with stupid engineering? Looking forwards to  Meltgate Part 2 as Nvidia increased the TDP for 5090😁

This Lian Li V3000+ Plus case is the nicest case I have ever seen in my life Taiwan made quality. Bar none. Ridiculously nice case. The actual frame is made of high quality solid aluminum and steel that is so thick it doesn’t make sense, and the inner panels follow this same design principal. Zero flexing on this big boy lol. Looking through the case, you notice everything from high quality paint, perfectly lined up seams, how heavy and robust it all feels, and then to how it all just looks perfect. Almost as if someone at Lian Li went seriously over the final product in QC with a fine tooth comb and gave it a pass. This case came straight from Lian Li in Taiwan.

I love this thing. I’m going to order up some 480’s and go to town. Might take a break from the old chiller / test bench for a while. 😃

Now, I have not done any building in it just yet, so I can’t speak on this, but all panels just life off. Top panel, side panels, and front panel etc. But this case has just blown my mind. I hate to say it, but it makes my $296 dollar over priced Praxis Wet bench full complete edition look cheap and rushed in comparison. the Praxis has really cheaply done gloss paint, and also cheaply made metal parts. You can actually see dried fingerprints in the white paint where someone picked it up during the drying process while they were spray painting it at the factory when new 😆. I don’t typically care or fuss over little stuff like this. But the Lian Li V3000+ Plus is literally so perfect that something had to be said. 🤷‍♂️ It uses a flat/matte white finish that looks great in my home which is also white and super bright as is lol.

I will more than likely stick to what ever Microcenter has between January 30 to March 30 or so. Hopefully they will carry the K|ngP|n model as well at some point. Going to talk with people in the know to see if that can become a reality. (Should he release one)

Finding something nice to say about it, good job to AMD for sticking with legacy 8-pin PCIe cables. That allows one to take advantage of pre-PCIe 5.0 PSUs that are getting discounted to appropriate value price levels. Let's hope the rumor is baloney, but AMD being true to form this will not come as a surprise.

No need for AMD to implement the new modern power connectors for in-house cards. Their AIB parners have more than enough of the tiny power connectors for nvidia graphics cards. So why not weld them on AMD graphics cards? Ashrock won't be the only one.

ASROCK adopts 12V-2×6 power connector on Radeon RX 9070 XT graphics card

Sad nvidia didn't go further with the design. But modern people want smal cute graphics cards that fits in their tiny small modern pc chassis filled with aRGB and toy figures, sooo dead before arrival.

Thermal testing showed the prototype performed signicantly better than the ocial Founders Edition design.
